En este estudio investigamos, durante dos campañas de experimentación en contenedores de 90 L, el efecto de dos compost (compost de alperujo y compost de biosólidos) y la cantidad y calidad de biomasa producida por un cultivo de Paulownia fortunei en tres suelos (dos suelos contaminados con elementos traza (uno de pH ácido y otro de pH neutro) y en un suelo no contaminado de baja fertilidad). Los compost aumentaron la producción de biomasa, especialmente en la segunda campaña de experimentación, y la calidad del gas de síntesis obtenido tras la gasificación de la misma. Water scarcity is a major problem in the Mediterranean basin. Spain is one of the most arid countries in the European Union; therefore growing energy crops as Sorghum bicolor will be only possible if enough water is available at reasonable economic and environmental cost. Water extraction from groundwater or surface water bodies, along with the application of pressure needed for irrigation, suppose great energy consumption and an increasing cost for crops. Irrigation agriculture is intensive in electricity consumption. Spain has undertaken a major modernization of irrigation in recent decades. Gravity irrigation, prevailing for years, has been replaced by sprinkler or drip irrigation. This transformation toward more modern and efficient irrigation however has been accompanied by a sharp increase in electricity consumption, thereby increasing the environmental impact associated to the agricultural sector. Irrigation increases greenhouse gases (GHG) footprint from energy crops, adding environmental burdens to common agriculture stages. Use of renewable energies to provide water, as solar photovoltaic (PV) energy, would contribute to reduce GHG emissions and fossil energy consumption, while improving environmental behavior of energy crops. A submarine volcanic eruption took place near the southernmost emerged land of the El Hierro Island (Canary Islands, Spain), from October 2011 to February 2012. The Instituto Geografico Nacional (IGN) seismic stations network evidenced seismic unrest since July 2011 and was a reference also to follow the evolution of the seismic activity associated with the volcanic eruption. Right after the eruption onset, in October 2011 a geophone string was deployed by the CSIC-IGN to monitor seismic activity. Monitoring with the seismic array continued till May 2012. The array was installed less than 2 km away from the new volcano, next to La Restinga village shore in the harbor from 6 to 12m deep into the water. Our purpose was to record seismic activity related to the volcanic activity, continuously and with special interest on high frequency events. The seismic array was endowed with 8, high frequency, 3 component, 250 Hz, geophone cable string with a separation of 6 m between them. Each geophone consists on a 3-component module based on 3 orthogonal independent sensors that measures ground velocity. Some of the geophones were placed directly on the seabed, some were buried. Due to different factors, as the irregular characteristics of the seafloor. The data was recorded on the surface with a seismometer and stored on a laptop computer. We show how acoustic data collected underwater show a great correlation with the seismic data recorded on land. Finally we compare our data analysis results with the observed sea surface activity (ash and lava emission and degassing). This evidence is disclosing new and innovative tecniques on monitoring submarine volcanic activity.

Introducción: Los trastornos del comportamiento alimentario (TCA) son las patologías psicológicas que más se han incrementado en los últimos años. Uno de los factores que determina la elevada prevalencia de TCA en nuestra sociedad es el gran desconocimiento sobre alimentación. Este desconocimiento puede deberse a la consulta de recursos online sin validez científica. Objetivo y ámbito: El objetivo de este trabajo ha sido analizar la calidad científica y el posicionamiento de los sitios web en español con información sobre nutrición, TCA y obesidad. Material y métodos: Se realizó una búsqueda de páginas web en el navegador Google Chrome con las palabras clave: dieta, anorexia, bulimia, nutrición y obesidad, seleccionándose los 20 primeros resultados de cada búsqueda según los índices de posicionamiento ofrecidos por SEOquake (Page Rank, Alexa Rank y SEMrush Rank). Las variables de análisis fueron: información relacionada con dietas y hábitos alimentarios, información sobre alimentación saludable, información sobre TCA y sus criterios diagnósticos e información de carácter formativo acerca de temas profesionales de salud general. Resultados: Sólo el 50% de las web encontradas cumplían los criterios de inclusión en el estudio. La mayoría no seguían las pautas establecidas por e-Europa sobre calidad. La mediana de Page Rank fue de 2, excepto en aquellas asociadas a instituciones sanitarias de prestigio. Conclusiones: Dada la escasez de webs sanitarias con rigor científico, es imprescindible la revisión de las existentes y la creación de nuevos espacios on-line cuya sunotipervisión sea realizada por profesionales especialistas en salud y nutrición. Introduction: Eating disorders are serious psychological disorders with an increased incidence in last years. One of the factors that determine the high prevalence of eating disorders in our society is the lack of knowledge about nutrition. One of the reasons of this lack of knowledge could be the presence of online resources without scientific validity. Objective and Scope: The aim of this study was to analyze the scientific quality and positioning of websites in Spanish that have information on nutrition, eating disorders and obesity. Materials and Methods: For this purpose, a web search was conducted in the Google Chrome browser using the key words: diet, anorexia, bulimia, obesity and nutrition, and selecting the first 20 results of each search at the rates offered by SeoQuake positioning (Page Rank, Alexa Rank y SEMrush Rank). The variables used for the analysis were: information related to eating habits and diets, information on healthy eating, information about eating disorders and their diagnostics, and formative information about general health topics with professional criteria. Results: Only the 50% of the webpages accomplished the inclusion criteria for this study. Most of them did not follow the guidelines established by e- Europe assessment for quality. The median of the Webpage's PageRank was 2, except those associated with health institutions. Conclusions: Given the scarcity of healthcare websites with scientific rigor is essential to review the existing one and to create new online spaces whose supervision must be carried out by specialists in health and nutrition.

The abatement of methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) commonly emitted during co-composting of municipal solid waste (MSW) was studied using a biofiltration system. MSW or MSW mixed with pruning residues (MSW-P) were used as packing materials. The monitoring of the system under transient state conditions was carried out using a photoionization analyser, an e-nose, and GC/MS. MEK removal efficiencies greater than 90% were obtained. An acclimatization period of 14 days was required for both biofilters studied. The hydrophilic nature of the contaminant (MEK) and the moisture content of the beds influenced the treatment process of the contaminant by biofiltration. The optimal range of moisture content for the packing materials used was between 21.5 % and 67.5 % (d.w) (MSW biofilter) and between 25.7 % and 91.8 % (d.w) (MSW-P biofilter). E-nose and GC/MS data indicate a complete degradation of MEK, although the e-nose did detect background emissions, characteristic of each type of biofilter. It was possible to obtain information about the performance of the biofiltration system at different stages of the experiment and results suggest that e-nose analysis could become a more powerful tool for monitoring volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in biofiltration and composting in the future., International Centre for Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems (SDEWES)

De Residuo a Recurso: Estrategias de gestión tratamiento y valorización en el Horizonte 2020 12‐14 de noviembre de 2014 (Murcia), Durante el compostaje de residuos vegetales se emiten diferentes compuestos orgánicos volátiles (COV) procedentes tanto de la degradación microbiana como terpenos de origen vegetal. En el presente trabajo, se estudia la composición de la atmósfera interna de pilas de restos de poda procedentes de jardinería urbana en relación a las condiciones de aireación (profundidad en la pila) y tiempo de compostaje transcurrido. Las determinaciones se realizaron en pilas de escala real usando analizadores de gases, GC-MS y una nariz electrónica. Los resultados indicaron que la huella de olor obtenida con la nariz electrónica resultó muy dependiente de las condiciones de oxigenación en la pila y del tiempo de compostaje transcurrido. La dependencia de la huella de olor con las condiciones del compostaje abre la posibilidad de usar este instrumento para la monitorización en tiempo real de la madurez del compost. El Hierro eruption started on 10 October 2011 after an unrest episode that initiated on 17 July 2011. This is the first eruption in the Canary Islands that has been tracked in real time. Although being submarine and not directly observable, the data recorded allowed its reconstruction and to identify its causes and mechanisms. Seismicity, surface deformation, and petrological data indicate that a batch of basanitic magma coming from a reservoir located at a depth of about 25 km below the El Hierro Island was emplaced at shallower depth creating a new reservoir about 10-12 km above, where magma evolved until the initiation of the eruption. The characteristics of seismicity and surface deformation suggest that the necessary space to accumulate magma at this shallower position, which coincides with the crust/mantle boundary beneath El Hierro, was created in about 2 months by elastic deformation and magma-driven fracturing of the crust. After this first intrusion episode, part of the magma started to migrate laterally toward the SE for nearly 20 km, always keeping the same depth and following a path apparently controlled by stress barriers created by tectonic and rheological contrasts in the upper lithosphere. This lateral migration of magma ended with a submarine eruption at about 5 km offshore from the southern corner of El Hierro Island. The total seismic energy released during the unrest episode was of 8.1 × 1011 J, and the total uplift previous to the onset of the eruption was of 40 mm. Combining geological, geophysical, and petrological data and numerical modeling, we propose a volcanological model of the causes and mechanisms of El Hierro eruption that shows how the stress distribution in the crust beneath El Hierro, which was influenced by rheological contrasts, tectonic stresses, and gravitational loading, controlled the movement and eruption of magma. We also discuss the implications of this model in terms of eruption forecast in the Canary Islands.
