Background: Little is known about the health literacy of children living with long-term conditions. This study aimed to gain insight into the life of children with a long-term condition in the context of health literacy, specifically their understanding of their health and the barriers and facilitators to sharing information about their condition with others. Design: Child-centred qualitative arts-based approach with children aged 6-12 years. Setting: Children participating in the study came from three countries -- the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Method: A participatory arts-based qualitative child-centred approach prompted children to draw, label and use stickers, body-outlines and collage to describe elements central to health literacy. This encompassed their long-term condition, their understanding of their condition, its management and decision-making associated with sharing information about their condition with others. The sessions were audio-recorded, and reflexive thematic analysis was undertaken. Results: Four central themes related to key elements of child health literacy: (1) pragmatic understanding -- what it feels like and what happens in my body; (2) management regime -- what do I have to do to keep on going; (3) information sharing -- I don't tell random people; and (4) benefits of sharing -- they've got my back. Conclusion: Children indicated a pragmatic or process type understanding of their condition and its management. Children were discerning about who they shared information about their condition with, but tended to establish a network of well-informed peers capable of providing support if needed. Despite gaps in children's health literacy, parents and families have an important role to play in checking children's understandings and developing critical health literacy.

There is a paucity of literature on children and young people's participation in decision-making within healthcare organisations in New Zealand. This integrative review examined child self-reported peer-reviewed manuscripts and published guidelines, policy, reviews, expert opinion and legislation to explore how New Zealand children and young people participate in discussions and decision-making processes within healthcare settings and what are barriers and benefits to such participation. Four child self-reported peer-reviewed manuscripts and twelve expert opinion documents were retrieved from four electronic databases including academic, government and institutional websites. Inductive content thematic analysis generated one theme (a discourse in children and young people's participation within healthcare settings), four sub-themes, 11 categories, 93 codes and 202 findings. It is evident within this review that there is a discourse between what expert opinion are stating is required to promote children and young people's participation in discussions and decision-making processes within healthcare settings and what is occurring in practice. Despite literature reporting on how children and young people's participation and voice were essential for healthcare provision, there was sparse literature published on children and young people's participation in discussions and decision-making processes in healthcare delivery in New Zealand. Aim: To explore the International Network for Child and Family Centred Care (INCFCC) members' experiences and views on the long‐term impact of COVID‐19 on the nursing workforce. Background: On the 11 March 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID‐19 a global pandemic. While some countries adopted a herd immunity approach, others imposed stricter measures to reduce the transmission of the virus. Hospitals in some countries faced an avalanche of extremely sick admissions, whereas others experienced an early surge in cases or were able to control the spread. Design: Discursive paper. Methods: A web‐based survey was e‐mailed to 63 INCFCC members from 28 March to 30 April 2022, as an invitation to share their experience concerning the long‐term impact of COVID‐19 on their role as a nurse educator, clinician or researcher. Results: Sixteen members responded, and the responses were grouped under the themes stress and anxiety, safe staffing and pay, doing things differently, impact on research, impact on teaching and learning, impact on clinical practice, nursing made visible and lessons for the future. Conclusion: The INCFCC members provided their views and highlighted the impact on their role in nursing education, administration, research and/or practice. This discussion of international perspectives on the similarities and differences imposed by COVID‐19 found that the impact was wide‐ranging and prolonged. The overarching theme revealed the resilience of the participating members in the face of COVID‐19. Relevance to Clinical Practice: This study highlights the importance of all areas of nursing, be it in academia or in clinical practice, to work together to learn from the present and to plan for the future. Future work should focus on supporting organizational and personal resiliency and effective interventions to support the nursing workforce both during a disaster and in the recovery phase. This qualitative study was conducted to explore the experiences of youth living with bronchiectasis in New Zealand (NZ). Semi-structured interviews were conducted with youth with bronchiectasis. Key themes were identified using an inductive approach through constant comparative analysis and guided by Thorne's interpretive description (ID). Fifteen young people of mixed ethnicity (nine females and six males) aged between 13 and 23 years participated. Three key themes 'sore and tired', 'life interrupted and 'looking after self' were identified. This paper will focus on 'sore and tired' and its three subthemes which describe the participants symptom experience. While there was variability in physical symptom patterns, cough, soreness and fatigue were prominent features impacting physical, emotional and social aspects of day-to-day life. All identified pervasive and profound fatigue as significant. The identification of prodromal symptoms provides opportunity for greater appreciation of the varied and personal symptom experience of young people with bronchiectasis. Early identification of these symptoms and inclusion within management plans for escalating treatment has the potential to improve outcomes, reducing delays in seeking additional medical management and preventing further exacerbation. This paper presents a narrative review protocol to explore how the proportion of child-specific content of pre-registration programmes in universities impact upon newly qualified nurses’ perceptions of preparedness to care for children, young people (CYP), and their families. The preparation and education to become a nurse who cares for children and young people differs from country to country. Providers of pre-registration nurse education offer routes into nursing from diploma to degree and in some countries post-graduate routes. The United Kingdom offers pre-registration programmes leading to qualifying as a children’s nurse whereas programmes in countries such as the USA and Canada lead to a professional registration as a registered nurse with postgraduate study to specialize in areas such as pediatrics. The role of pre-registration nursing programmes is to facilitate preparedness for practice. Preparation for practice can include theoretical teaching and practice learning through simulation and face-to-face experience with countries requiring different numbers of practice hours to be completed. Although practice hours are central to nursing education, there is limited evidence on the impact and portion of child-specific content, including clinical learning in preparation of newly qualified nurses to care for CYP and their families. A preliminary search of Prospero, CINAHL, Medline and Cochrane Database indicates that there are no current or in progress reviews identified. The Population of interest, Exposure of interest, and Outcome framework were used to define the research question and inform the eligibility criteria. The review will consider different research designs if related to the research question. The search strategy will conform to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines for systematic reviews. Two independent reviewers will be involved in the screening progress to determine the final studies for inclusion. Eligible studies will be assessed for methodological quality using the Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal tools. Extraction of study characteristics and data related to the research question will be extracted into a predefined table. Data synthesis will be conducted using a descriptive analytical approach to summarize extracted data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
