We study the effects of the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) on the efficiency of quantum heat engines based on a particle in an infinite square well using the partition function approach. In particular, we study the Carnot and Otto heat engines. For the system we used, the GUP-corrected efficiencies turned out to be lower than efficiencies without the GUP effects. However, as expected, GUP effects increase as the temperature of the cold heat bath decreases and as the width of the potential well decreases., Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures

We apply the Walborn [Walborn S P, Taketani B G, Salles A, Toscano F and de Matos Filho R L 2009 Entropic Entanglement Criteria for Continuous Variables Phys. Rev. Lett. 103 160505] Shannon Entropic Entanglement Criterion (SEEC), to simple harmonic oscillators, a system typically discussed in undergraduate quantum mechanics courses. In particular, we investigate the entanglement of a system of coupled harmonic oscillators. A simple form of entanglement criterion in terms of their interaction is found. It is shown that a pair of interacting ground state coupled oscillators are more likely to be entangled for weaker coupling strengths while coupled oscillators in excited states entangle at higher coupling strengths. Interacting oscillators are more likely to be entangled as their interaction increases., Comment: 15 pages

We examine quantum gravity effects by applying the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) to entropic uncertainty relation conditions on quantum entanglement. In particular, we study the GUP corrections to the Shannon entropic uncertainty condition for entanglement. As in an earlier paper [Blado, Herrera, Erwin arxiv:1706.10013 [quant-ph]] which dealt with variance relations, there is an increase in the upper bound for the entanglement condition upon the application of the generalized uncertainty principle. We examine quantum gravity effects on entanglement by a straightforward application of the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) to continuous-variable systems. In particular, we study the following cases: the modified uncertainty relation of two identical entangled particles (Rigolin, 2002), and the inseparability conditions for entangled particles in the bipartite (Duan, Giedke, Cirac and Zoller, 2000) and tripartite (van Loock and Furusawa, 2003) cases. Rigolin showed a decrease in the lower bound of the product of the uncertainties of the position and momentum for two identical entangled particles while Duan and van Loock derived inseparability conditions for EPR-like operators. In all three cases, the GUP correction resulted in a higher value of the bounds: a higher lower bound for the Rigolin's result and a higher upper bound for the inseparability condition in Duan's and van Loock's relations. In Rigolin's case, the GUP correction decreased the disagreement with the Heisenberg uncertainty relation while in Duan's and Loock's cases,the inseparability and entanglement conditions are enhanced. Interestingly, the GUP corrections tend to make quantum mechanical effects more pronounced., Comment: 11 pages

In a previous paper [Blado G, Owens C, and Meyers V 2014 Quantum Wells and the Generalized Uncertainty Principle Eur. J. Phys. 35 065011], we showed that quantum gravity effects can be discussed with only a background in non-relativistic quantum mechanics at the undergraduate level by looking at the effect of the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) on the finite and infinite square wells. In this paper, we derive the GUP corrections to the tunneling probability of simple quantum mechanical systems which are accessible to undergraduates (alpha decay, simple models of quantum cosmogenesis and gravitational tunneling radiation) and which employ the WKB approximation, a topic discussed in undergraduate quantum mechanics classes. The finite and infinite square wells are potentials typically discussed in undergraduate quantum mechanics courses. In this paper, we discuss these potentials in the light of the recent studies of the modification of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle into a generalized uncertainty principle as a consequence of attempts to formulate a quantum theory of gravity. The ring-shaped Hartmann potential $ V = \eta \sigma^{2} \epsilon_{0} \left( \frac{2 a_{0}}{r} - \frac{\eta a_{0}^{2}}{r^{2} sin^{2} \theta} \right) $ was introduced in quantum chemistry to describe ring-shaped molecules like benzene. In this article, the supersymmetric features of the Hartmann potential are discussed. We first review the results of a previous paper in which we rederived the eigenvalues and radial eigenfunctions of the Hartmann potential using a formulation of one-dimensional supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSYQM) on the half-line $\left[ 0, \infty \right)$. A reformulation of SUSYQM in the full line $\left( -\infty, \infty \right)$ is subsequently developed. It is found that the second formulation makes a connection between states having the same quantum number $L$ but different values of $\eta \sigma^{2}$ and quantum number $N$.
