1. Harmformer: Harmonic Networks Meet Transformers for Continuous Roto-Translation Equivariance

Abstract

CNNs exhibit inherent equivariance to image translation, leading to efficient parameter and data usage, faster learning, and improved robustness. The concept of translation equivariant networks has been successfully extended to rotation transformation using group convolution for discrete rotation groups and harmonic functions for the continuous rotation group encompassing $360^\circ$. We explore the compatibility of the SA mechanism with full rotation equivariance, in contrast to previous studies that focused on discrete rotation. We introduce the Harmformer, a harmonic transformer with a convolutional stem that achieves equivariance for both translation and continuous rotation. Accompanied by an end-to-end equivariance proof, the Harmformer not only outperforms previous equivariant transformers, but also demonstrates inherent stability under any continuous rotation, even without seeing rotated samples during training., Comment: Appears in NeurIPS 2024 Workshop on Symmetry and Geometry in Neural Representations

2. H-NeXt: The next step towards roto-translation invariant networks

Abstract

The widespread popularity of equivariant networks underscores the significance of parameter efficient models and effective use of training data. At a time when robustness to unseen deformations is becoming increasingly important, we present H-NeXt, which bridges the gap between equivariance and invariance. H-NeXt is a parameter-efficient roto-translation invariant network that is trained without a single augmented image in the training set. Our network comprises three components: an equivariant backbone for learning roto-translation independent features, an invariant pooling layer for discarding roto-translation information, and a classification layer. H-NeXt outperforms the state of the art in classification on unaugmented training sets and augmented test sets of MNIST and CIFAR-10., Comment: Appears in British Machine Vision Conference 2023 (BMVC 2023)

7. Conversion of historical stone bridge to lifting bridge in the Hořín lock chamber.

Abstract

The paper describes design and construction process of the unique reconstruction of the historical stone bridge at the lower head of the listed Hořín lock chamber at the confluence of the Vltava and Elbe rivers near Mělník. The original stone arch bridge from 1905 at the outlet of the lock had to be carefully dismantled and rebuilt into a lifting bridge with a vertical lift of 5 m. The goal was to preserve bridges original listed and preserved appearance and enable larger ships to pass under it. The design of reconstruction consisted of proposal of new substructure, new hidden steel superstructure, new hydraulic and mechanical parts and electronical controling system. The original appearence of the stone cladding had to be preserved, so new hidden truss steel kernel was inserted to form the support for the original stone cladding and concrete coupling shell. The stroke of the bridge is controlled electronically by hydraulic cylinders and a system of guides and restraints. The reconstruction of this unique bridge had been carrefully performed under surveilance of National Heritage Office. The project recieved the Czech Construction of the Year 2022 award. 9. Dietary changes seen through the isotope analysis of the La Tène burial site of Prosmyky (Bohemia, 4th-3rd century BCE)

Abstract

Dietary reconstruction using carbon and nitrogen isotopes has been applied to the La Tène population buried at Prosmyky, a large cemetery of the 4th-3rd centuries BCE in northwest Bohemia. The analysis of bone collagen from 55 individuals showed a diet that did not differ noticeably from other contemporary sites in the region. However, chronologically sensitive development in diet, with gradually increasing δ13C values, was present, signifying a growing reliance on millet for sustenance through the cemetery’s lifespan. Moreover, a rather unusual higher δ15N in individuals older than ca. 30 years of age was also observed. Possible explanations are examined, along with a comparison with other published data from the region, suggesting the influence of regionally based developments that might be linked with the societal shifts that led towards the Late La Tène period. Abstract

Cities are critical sites for understanding, and potentially ameliorating, the effects of global ecological change, the climate emergency and natural resource depletion. Contemporary cities are sociomaterially connected through global markets, trade and transportation, placing ever‐increasing demands on the natural environment and generating dangerous pollutants and emissions. Current approaches to address these environmental crises are dominated by neoliberal forms of 'green' urban development, carbon accounting and techno‐economic solutions, which extend corporate control over cities and tend to entrench inequality. A more strategic approach for enabling ecologically sustainable and equitable urban futures is urgently needed. We present five strategies for urban ecological futures in the global North, derived from qualitative and ethnographic empirical research with international eco‐communities, which open up discussions about how to tackle this challenge by acknowledging the role and potential of: (1) non‐extractive community economies; (2) democratic processes of co‐operative action; (3) social approaches to resource management; (4) participatory collaborative governance; and (5) urban heterogeneity and social justice. We explore the relational, contested and contextual processes through which these approaches could become embedded in urban policy and planning, thereby offering the strategic capacity required to move towards truly sustainable cities. Abstract

The growth of fruits was evaluated during three growing seasons on four apple cultivars ‘Angold’, ‘Jonagold’, ‘Rubinola’ and ‘Topaz’. The follow-up period was defined by the start of flowering, the date of attaining of T-stage by fruitlets and the start of optimal harvest ripening, which for each cultivar was determined on the basis of starch index, flesh firmness and soluble solids. The close relationships were detected between time of attaining the T-stage and term of harvest maturity for three of four studied cultivars.

17. Analysis and Detection of PWS Malware

Abstract

Cyberdefense became important, especially duringthe last decade. The rapid growth of information technologiescaused a significant increase in cyber attacks and threats onthe Internet. Malware analysis forms a critical component ofcyberdefense mechanisms. In this article, we study the issue ofmalicious code and its various types, with a specific focus on thetype known as PassWord Stealers (PWS). To do so, we deployedseveral methods of analyzing binary executable code, such asstatic and dynamic analysis, and sandboxing. We analyze 11recently discovered malware families. From that, we discovered3 new strains of malware, namely SevenStealer, NeedleDropper,and AtlantidaStealer. Furthermore, we have created appropriatedetection rules for all of these malware, which have improvedthe detection capabilities of Avast anti-virus (AV) softwareworldwide. At the end of this article, we present the resultingdata illustrating the spread of analyzed malware in the user baseof the Avast company.

Abstract

V posledních letech v reakci na rostoucí nedostupnost bydlení dochází v mnohých evropských zemích k opětovnému rozvoji forem bydlení, které kladou důraz na prvky spolupráce, sebeorganizace a sdílení mezi domácnostmi (prostoru, organizace nebo vlastnictví). V České republice dochází k prvním snahám některých obcí a menších skupin obyvatel přenést tuto „inovaci bydlení“ do českého kontextu, který dosud upřednostňoval převážně individuální vlastnické bydlení. Vzhledem k tomu, že tyto nově vznikající formy bydlení v České republice dosud nebyly teoreticky konceptualizovány, je cílem našeho článku tuto debatu iniciovat. Za tímto účelem navrhujeme zastřešující definici participativního bydlení, kterou prezentujeme pomocí tří definujících principů a pěti dimenzí participace. Vycházíme přitom z existujících západoevropských konceptualizací a z historické kontextualizace (souvisejících forem) bydlení na území dnešní České republiky, a diskutujeme o jednotlivých dimenzích konceptu participativního bydlení, podmínkách jeho existence a odlišujících znacích od jiných forem bydlení. In recent years, in response to the increasing unaffordability of housing, many European countries have seen a renewed interest in forms of housing that emphasise elements of cooperation, self-organisation, and sharing (of space, organisation, or ownership between households). In the Czech Republic, we recently identified the first efforts of some municipalities and smaller groups of citizens to transpose this ‘housing innovation’ into the Czech context, which until now has predominantly favoured individual owner-occupied housing. Considering that these emerging forms of housing in the Czech Republic have yet to be conceptualised in theory, the goal of our article is to initiate a debate on a more precise conceptual understanding. To this end, we propose an overarching definition of participatory housing, which we present using three defining principles and five dimensions of participation. Reflecting on existing Western European conceptualisations and a historical contextualisation of (related forms of) housing in the territory of what is today the Czech Republic, we discuss the specific dimensions of the concept of participatory housing, the conditions of its existence, and what makes it distinct from other forms of housing.

22. Traces of Obduracy: Imaginaries of ‘Social Inertia’ in the Process of Introducing Collaborative Housing in the Czech Republic

Abstract

This paper explores the sociotechnical change necessary for the introduction of collaborative housing projects into the Czech super-homeownership housing regime. To better understand the obduracy of the current housing system, we examine the major barriers and threats to the implementation of such projects through a series of workshops with non-experts in selected cities. Our findings suggest that the housing system’s obduracy is related to social imaginaries that we conceptualise as the ‘imaginary of social inertia’. This form of imaginary, along with other factors such as a lack of supporting legal and financial infrastructures, creates a complex network of obstacles that reduce the likelihood of such housing projects gaining ground. In conclusion, our research emphasises the role of imaginaries in studying obduracy and thus provides valuable insights into the processes of urban sociotechnical change. Tento příspěvek zkoumá význam sociotechnických změn nezbytných pro zavedení kolaborativních forem bydlení do českého supervlastnického režimu bydlení. Abychom porozuměli důvodům zatvrzelosti současného systému, prostřednictvím série workshopů s ne-experty ve vybraných městech ČR jsme zkoumali překážky a hrozby pro realizaci takových projektů bydlení. Naše zjištění naznačují, že zatvrzelost systému bydlení souvisí se sociálními imaginacemi, které konceptualizujeme jako „imaginace sociální setrvačnosti“. Tato forma imaginace spolu s dalšími faktory, jako je nedostatek podpůrné právní a finanční infrastruktury, vytváří komplexní síť překážek, které snižují pravděpodobnost, že se takové projekty bydlení prosadí. Náš výzkum zdůrazňuje roli imaginací při studiu zatvrzelosti a poskytuje poznatky o procesech urbánních sociotechnických změn.

Abstract

Present-day people from England and Wales have more ancestry derived from early European farmers (EEF) than did people of the Early Bronze Age1. To understand this, here we generated genome-wide data from 793 individuals, increasing data from the Middle to the Late Bronze Age and Iron Age in Britain by 12-fold, and western and central Europe by 3.5-fold. Between 1000 and 875 BC, EEF ancestry increased in southern Britain (England and Wales) but not northern Britain (Scotland) due to incorporation of migrants who arrived at this time and over previous centuries, and who were genetically most similar to ancient individuals from France. These migrants contributed about half the ancestry of people of England and Wales from the Iron Age, thereby creating a plausible vector for the spread of early Celtic languages into Britain. These patterns are part of a broader trend of EEF ancestry becoming more similar across central and western Europe in the Middle to the Late Bronze Age, coincident with archaeological evidence of intensified cultural exchange2-6. There was comparatively less gene flow from continental Europe during the Iron Age, and the independent genetic trajectory in Britain is also reflected in the rise of the allele conferring lactase persistence to approximately 50% by this time compared to approximately 7% in central Europe where it rose rapidly in frequency only a millennium later. This suggests that dairy products were used in qualitatively different ways in Britain and in central Europe over this period.

Abstract

In recent years, in response to the increasing unaffordability of housing, many European countries have seen a renewed interest in forms of housing that emphasise elements of cooperation, self-organisation, and sharing (of space, organisation, or ownership between households). In the Czech Republic, we recently identified the first efforts of some municipalities and smaller groups of citizens to transpose this 'housing innovation' into the Czech context, which until now has predominantly favoured individual owner-occupied housing. Considering that these emerging forms of housing in the Czech Republic have yet to be conceptualised in theory, the goal of our article is to initiate a debate on a more precise conceptual understanding. To this end, we propose an overarching definition of participatory housing, which we present using three defining principles and five dimensions of participation. Reflecting on existing Western European conceptualisations and a historical contextualisation of (related forms of) housing in the territory of what is today the Czech Republic, we discuss the specific dimensions of the concept of participatory housing, the conditions of its existence, and what makes it distinct from other forms of housing. Abstract

Present-day people from England and Wales harbour more ancestry derived from Early European Farmers (EEF) than people of the Early Bronze Age . To understand this, we generated genome-wide data from 793 individuals, increasing data from the Middle to Late Bronze and Iron Age in Britain by 12-fold, and Western and Central Europe by 3.5-fold. Between 1000 and 875 BC, EEF ancestry increased in southern Britain (England and Wales) but not northern Britain (Scotland) due to incorporation of migrants who arrived at this time and over previous centuries, and who were genetically most similar to ancient individuals from France. These migrants contributed about half the ancestry of Iron Age people of England and Wales, thereby creating a plausible vector for the spread of early Celtic languages into Britain. These patterns are part of a broader trend of EEF ancestry becoming more similar across central and western Europe in the Middle to Late Bronze Age, coincident with archaeological evidence of intensified cultural exchange . There was comparatively less gene flow from continental Europe during the Iron Age, and Britain's independent genetic trajectory is also reflected in the rise of the allele conferring lactase persistence to ~50% by this time compared to ~7% in central Europe where it rose rapidly in frequency only a millennium later. This suggests that dairy products were used in qualitatively different ways in Britain and in central Europe over this period. [Abstract copyright: © 2021. Analyses accompanying creation of law on the example of regulation of new phenomena, the so-called shared economy Abstrakt v anglickém jazyce This thesis deals with analyzes preceeding the parliamentary phase of the legislative process on the example of the modern phenomenon, the shared economy. In the case of regulation of a shared economy, the legislator faces a difficult task of regulating yet unregulated, and in such cases, there is a risk that in the event of an incorrect analysis, the regulation may be unfunctional and thus unnecessary. The author chose two analyzes for his thesis, namely analysis of regulatory impact assessment and related explanatory report. The topic becomes more important when we consider that today's era is called the age of legislation. In some ways, it also offers an alternative view of improving the quality of regulation (usually laws), because although the legislator is trying in every way to improve the quality of the Czech legal system, it focuses entirely on the legislative process in the chambers of the Parliament, or adopts new adjustments for the greater transparency of the legislative process. Over the past 8 years we have published thirteen papers belonging to this field of research. This thesis presents the current state of the art and puts these papers into context. Our research is focused on modalities in the visible and near-infrared parts of the spectrum and affects vari- ous tasks of art investigation. For studying the spectral response of paint materials, we suggest a low-cost mobile multi-band acquisition system and a calibration method extended by a light source with an adjustable wavelength. We created the m3art database of the spectral responses of pigments, available for comparison and public use. The central point of our research is underdrawing detection and visual- ization. For this purpose we have developed: acquisition guidelines based on optical properties of the topmost non-transparent layer, a visualization technique for comparison of modalities, and a signal separation technique...

Abstract

1 Abstract Bachelor's thesis "Candidate selection methods and its targeting within Active Employment Policy" focuses on applicant selection methods and criteria, usage of early assessment methods, factors influencing effects and goals of the Active Employment Policy (AEP) and evaluation of the methods and criteria, which are being used at labour offices in Prague. Theoretical section focuses on explaining several crucial terms, which are directly related to selection methods and the AEP focus. At first, a concept of AEP is introduced, followed by a section explaining individual tools. Succeeding part describes factors effecting AEP goals and factors effecting the outcome of individual measures, which are consequential to AEP programs targeting. Last section is dedicated to the methods of early assessment of high-risk groups. Analytical section contains interview analyses, which were conducted with employees of labour offices in Prague. The results are divided into five chapters according to the survey question focus area. The outcome of the survey signifies that a personal approach to each applicant is being preferred. Another crucial factor is applicant's motivation.

Abstract

Jan Blažek, a correspondent of the Czech Ethnological Society, wrote in 1982 a text that described representatives of selected socio-professional groups in the Czech countryside before World War I. He paid attention to beggars, vagrants, wanderers, and barrel organ players. Even though those people usually were on the margin of society, the author identifies peculiar features of each of the mentioned groups and he differentiates between them (he creates a particular characteristics for each of them). He deals with their social and material situation, majority´s relationship to them (including possible stereotypes and expressions of solidarity), their life conditions (diet, accommodation, clothing etc.) and other features (way of earning livelihood, typical behaviour, or verbal expressions).
