A study was conducted to investigate the continuous-wave laser operation of Nd-doped tetragonal NaLa[(W[O.sub.4]).sub.2] crystal at room temperature by optical pumping in the special region overlapping AlGaAs diode laser emission. The findings were found to justify the better efficiency for laser operation of the [pi]-configuration and determined the optimum Nd concentration for this purpose in the 3 at.%- 5 at.% range.
