The synthesis of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) at bulk scale require robust, straightforward, and cost‐effective techniques. However, the traditional solvothermal synthetic methods of COFs suffer low scalability as well as requirement of sensitive reaction environment and multiday reaction time (2–10 days) which greatly restricts their practical application. Here, we report microwave assisted rapid and optimized synthesis of a donor‐acceptor (D−A) based highly crystalline COF, TzPm‐COF in second (10 sec) to minute (10 min) time scale. With increasing the reaction time from seconds to minutes crystallinity, porosity and morphological changes are observed for TzPm‐COF. Owing to visible range light absorption, suitable band alignment, and low exciton binding energy (Eb=64.6 meV), TzPm‐COF can efficaciously produce superoxide radical anion (O2.−) after activating molecular oxygen (O2) which eventually drives aerobic photooxidative amidation reaction with high recyclability. This photocatalytic approach works well with a variety of substituted aromatic aldehydes having electron‐withdrawing or donating groups and cyclic, acyclic, primary or secondary amines with moderate to high yield. Furthermore, catalytic mechanism was established by monitoring the real‐time reaction progress through in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopic (DRIFTS) study. Efficient solar‐driven syngas production (CO+H2 mixture) from CO2 and H2O with a suitable photocatalyst and fundamental understanding of the reaction mechanism are the desired approach towards the carbon recycling process. Herein, we report the design and development of an unique COF‐topological quantum material nano‐heterostructure, COF@TI with a newly synthesized donor‐acceptor based COF and two dimensional (2D) nanosheets of strong topological insulator (TI), PbBi2Te4. The intrinsic robust metallic surfaces of the TI act as electron reservoir, minimising the fast electron‐hole recombination process, and the presence of 6s2 lone pairs in Pb2+ and Bi3+ in the TI helps for efficient CO2 binding, which are responsible for boosting overall catalytic activity. In variable ratio of acetonitrile‐water (MeCN : H2O) solvent mixture COF@TI produces syngas with different ratios of CO and H2. COF@TI nano‐heterostructure enables to produce higher amount of syngas with more controllable ratios of CO and H2 compared to pristine COF. The electron transfer route from COF to TI was realized from Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) analysis, charge density difference calculation, excited state lifetime and photoelectrochemical measurements. Finally, a probable mechanistic pathway has been established after identifying the catalytic sites and reaction intermediates by in situ DRIFTS study and DFT calculation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Solar-light driven reduction of CO 2 to CH 4 is a complex process involving multiple electron and proton transfer processes with various intermediates. Therefore, achieving high CH 4 activity and selectivity remains a significant challenge. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) represent an emerging class of photoactive semiconductors with molecular level structural tunability, modular band gaps, and high charge carrier generation and transport within the network. Here, we developed a new heterocyclic triazole ring containing COF, TFPB-TRZ, through the condensation reaction between 1,3,5-tris(4-formylphenyl)benzene (TFPB) and 3,5-diamino-1,2,4-triazole (TRZ). The TFPB-TRZ COF with multiple heteroatoms shows suitable visible light absorption, high CO 2 uptake capability and an appropriate band diagram for CO 2 photoreduction. Photocatalysis results reveal a maximum CO 2 to CH 4 conversion of 2.34 mmol g -1 with a rate of 128 μmol g -1 h -1 and high selectivity (∼99%) using 1-benzyl-1,4-dihydronicotinamide (BNAH) and triethylamine (TEA) as sacrificial agents. Under similar reaction conditions in the presence of direct sunlight, the TFPB-TRZ COF displays a maximum CH 4 yield of 493 μmol g -1 with a rate of 61.62 μmol g -1 h -1 , suggesting the robustness and light-harvesting ability of the COF photocatalyst. A femtosecond transient absorption (TA) spectroscopy study shows fast decay of excited state absorption (ESA) in the COF compared to the TFPB building unit due to efficient electron transfer to the catalytic site in the framework. The mechanism of CO 2 reduction to CH 4 is studied by DFT-based theoretical calculation, which is further supported by an in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopic (DRIFTS) study. The DFT results reveal that the lone pair of electrons on nitrogen heteroatoms present in the triazole ring of the TRZ moiety help in the stabilization of the CO intermediate during CO 2 to CH 4 conversion. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs), featuring structural diversity, permanent porosity, and functional versatility, have emerged as promising electrode materials for rechargeable batteries. To date, amorphous polymer, COF, or their composites are mostly explored in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), while their research in other alkali metal ion batteries is still in infancy. This can be due to the challenges that arise from large volume changes, slow diffusion kinetics, and inefficient active site utilization by the large Na + or K + ion. Herein, microwave-assisted imide-based 2D COF, TAPB-NDA covalently connected with amine-functionalized carbon nanotubes (TAPB-NDA@CNT) targeting the application in both Li-/Na-ion batteries, is synthesized. As-synthesized, TAPB-NDA@CNT50 displays the good performance as LIB cathode with a specific capacity of ≈138 mAh g -1 at 25 mA g -1 , long cycling stability (81.2% retention after 2000 cycles at 300 mA g -1 ), with excellent reversible capacity retention of ≈79.6%. Similarly, TAPB-NDA@CNT50, when employed in sodium-ion battery (SIB), exhibited 136.7 mAh g -1 specific capacity at 25 mA g -1 , retained ≈80% of the reversible capacity after 1000 cycles at 300 mA g -1 and showing excellent rate performance.
