The mechanical, thermodynamics, electronic, optical properties of Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 , Bi 2 Ti 4 O 11 , Bi 12 TiO 20 and Bi 2 Ti 2 O 7 ternary semiconductor materials were calculated and analyzed using first-principles calculations. The structural optimizations demonstrate that four ternary semiconductors are structurally stable. The mechanical parameters of Bi 2 Ti 2 O 7 exhibit the highest resistance to deformation and average bonding strength, while Bi 2 Ti 4 O 11 demonstrates the high shear deformation resistance. The Debye temperatures for these bismuth titanate semiconductors are in the following order: Bi 2 Ti 4 O 11 >Bi 2 Ti 2 O 7 >Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 >Bi 12 TiO 20. Both Bi 12 TiO 20 and Bi 2 Ti 2 O 7 exhibit high light absorption energies within specific ranges. Through the computational analysis presented in this paper, the theoretical data of bismuth-based semiconductors are enriched for further experimental investigations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Semiconductor heterojunction photocatalysts have attracted much attention because of their great application prospects in solar energy utilization and conversion. Rational construction of heterostructure with two or more semiconductor materials can combine the advantages of multi-components to simultaneously improve the photo-induced charges separation, expand the visible light absorption range, and maintain the high redox capacity of photocatalysts. Recently, constructing of g-C3 N4-based heterostructure has become a hot research topic due to the multiple merits of g-C3 N4, such as facile synthesis, high stability, unique optical and electrical characteristics. This review focuses on the recent research on the modification of g-C3 N4-based heterojunction photocatalysts and reviews three heterojunction structures (g-C3 N4-based type-Ⅱ heterojunction, g-C3 N4-based Z-scheme heterojunction and g-C3 N4-based type of S-scheme heterojunction) according to the different charge transfer paths of g-C3 N4 and other semiconductors, and their applications in environmental restoration and energy. Abstract The rapid recombination of electron-hole pairs in BiVO4 has limited its performance as a photocatalysis. In this paper, BiVO4 is combined with Cu2−x Se semiconductor to slow down the recombination process, and thus improve its photocatalytic activity. This is enabled by careful band structure design. The work function of Cu2−x Se is larger than that of BiVO4. Therefore, electrons flow to Cu2−x Se from BiVO4 after the composition. Accordingly, an inner field could be built, which facilitates the separation of electrons and holes. The experimental result shows that the photocatalytic efficiency of the 3 wt% Cu2−x Se/BiVO4 composite is 15.8 times than that of pure BiVO4.

Abstract Ag/BiPbO2Cl nanosheet composites were successfully prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and photo-reduction. The morphology, microstructure, and optical properties of the as-prepared Ag/BiPbO2Cl nanosheet composites were characterized using TEM, XRD, and UV-Vis diffuse reflection spectroscopy. The prepared Ag/BiPbO2Cl nanosheet composites with 0.5 wt% Ag exhibit favorable photocatalytic activity, which is 3.6 times that of BiPbO2Cl nanosheet. The enhanced photocatalytic properties can be attributed to the inner electromagnetic field, higher visible light response range, excellent conductivity, and lower Fermi level of Ag.
