- Abstract
The ηη system produced in charge-exchange π-p interaction at a momentum of 32.5 GeV/c is studied in an experiment performed with the GAMS-4π spectrometer at the 70-GeV accelerator of the Institute for High-Energy Physics (IHEP, Protvino). A partial-wave analysis is performed in the mass range between 1.1 and 3.9 GeV for -t < 0.2 (GeV/c)2, S, D, G, and J waves being taken into account in this analysis. The S wave has a complicated structure, displaying peaks at about 1.5 and 1.7 GeV. These peaks are associated with the f0(1500) and f0(1710) mesons. One of the solutions (preferable one) involves the f0(2200) and f 2(1950) resonances. The mass region above 2.4 GeV is dominated by the G wave. A broad state of mass about 3 GeV and width 0.7 GeV is found in the J wave. The parameters of the resonances in question and their production cross sections are measured.© 2005 Pleiades Publishing, Inc., SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

- Abstract
The results of a search for point sources of high energy neutrinos in the northern hemisphere were presented using AMANDA-II data collected in the year 2000. The results included the flux limits on several active-galactic-nuclei blazars, microquasars, magnetars, and other candidate neutrino sources. A search for excesses above a random background of cosmic ray induced atmospheric neutrinos and misreconstructed downgoing cosmic-rays muons, which revealed no statistically significant neutrino point sources was also presented. It was shown that AMANDA-II had achieved the sensitivity required to probe known TeV γ-ray sources such as the blazar Markarian 501 in its 1997 flaring state at a level where neutrino and γ-ray fluxes were equal., 0, SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

- Abstract
This paper describes the search for astronomical sources of high-energy neutrinos using the AMANDA-B10 detector, an array of 302 photomultiplier tubes used for the detection of Cerenkov light from upward-traveling neutrino-induced muons, buried deep in ice at the South Pole. The absolute pointing accuracy and angular resolution were studied by using coincident events between the AMANDA detector and two independent telescopes on the surface, the GASP air Cerenkov telescope and the SPASE extensive air shower array. Using data collected from 1997 April to October (130.1 days of live time), a general survey of the northern hemisphere revealed no statistically significant excess of events from any direction. The sensitivity for a flux of muon neutrinos is based on the effective detection area for through-going muons. Averaged over the northern sky, the effective detection area exceeds 10,000 m2 for E μ ≈ 10 TeV. Neutrinos generated in the atmosphere by cosmic-ray interactions were used to verify the predicted performance of the detector. For a source with a differential energy spectrum proportional to Eν-2 and declination larger than +40°, we obtain E2(dNν/dE) ≤ 10-6 GeV cm-2 s-1 for an energy threshold of 10 GeV., 0, SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

- Abstract
We show new results from both the older and newer incarnations of AMANDA (AMANDA-B10 and AMANDA-II, respectively). These results demonstrate that AMANDA is a functioning, multipurpose detector with significant physics and astrophysics reach. They include a new higher-statistics measurement of the atmospheric muon neutrino flux and preliminary results from searches for a variety of sources of ultrahigh energy neutrinos: generic point sources, gamma-ray bursters and diffuse sources producing muons in the detector, and diffuse sources producing electromagnetic or hadronic showers in or near the detector., 0, SCOPUS: ar.j, SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

- Abstract
IceCube is a large neutrino telescope of the next generation to be constructed in the Antarctic Ice Sheet near the South Pole. We present the conceptual design and the sensitivity of the IceCube detector to predicted fluxes of neutrinos, both atmospheric and extra-terrestrial. A complete simulation of the detector design has been used to study the detector's capability to search for neutrinos from sources such as active galaxies, and gamma-ray bursts., 0, SCOPUS: ar.j, SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

- Abstract
This paper briefly describes the principle of operation and science goals of the AMANDA high energy neutrino telescope located at the South Pole, Antarctica. Results from an earlier phase of the telescope, called AMANDA-B10, demonstrate both reliable operation and the broad astrophysical reach of this device, which includes searches for a variety of sources of ultrahigh energy neutrinos: generic point sources, Gamma-Ray Bursts and diffuse sources. The predicted sensitivity and angular resolution of the telescope were confirmed by studies of atmospheric muon and neutrino backgrounds. We also report on the status of the analysis from AMANDA-II, a larger version with far greater capabilities. At this stage of analysis, details of the ice properties and other systematic uncertainties of the AMANDA-II telescope are under study, but we have made progress toward critical science objectives. In particular, we focus on the search for continuous emission from astrophysical point sources and the search for correlated neutrino emission from Gamma Ray Bursts detected by BATSE before decommissioning in May 2000. During the next two years, we expect to exploit the full potential of AMANDA-II with the installation of a new data acquisition system that records full waveforms from the in-ice optical sensors., 0, SCOPUS: cp.p, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

- Abstract
A new measurement of the 18F(p,α) reaction and the 18F(p,p) elastic scattering was performed at the Radioactive Ion Beam facility in Louvain-la-Neuve. Values were deduced for the resonance energy, total width, partial width, and resonance strength of the 7.07 MeV level in 19Ne, confirming and increasing the precision of a first result obtained several years ago in the same lab., SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

- Abstract
The reaction 13N+11B has been investigated at two 13N beam energies: 29.5 and 45 MeV. Charged particles and γ rays emitted in the reactions have been detected using a large array of silicon strip detectors and BaF2 scintillators, respectively. Several reaction channels have been analysed with different aims. The proton transfer reaction 11B(13N, 12C)12C to various excited states of 12C has been studied to obtain information on the 13Ng.s. structure. The excitation energy of the 24Mg compound nucleus was in the region where several resonances occur in the 12C+12C system. The six-α decay of the 24Mg intermediate system has been studied. Some of these events have been identified as coming from the break-up of two 12C* in the 3-1-3-1 and 3-1-0+2 states. The total fusion cross section has also been extracted from the data. In order to extract information on the isospin purity/mixing in 24Mg at high excitation energy (Ex∼47 MeV), the GDR γ emission from this self-conjugate nucleus has been studied. A comparison of γ spectra has been undertaken for the reactions 13N+11B and 14N+10B. © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V., SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

High Energy Physics::Experiment ,Physique atomique et nucléaire - Abstract
New data on the η′η system produced in the π-p charge exchange reaction at 38 GeV/c momentum confirm the existence of the narrow η′η resonance X (1910). The hypothesis of the X (1910) quantum numbers being a JPC= 1-+, forbidden for the qq̄ meson, is proposed to explain the extremely low limits obtained for X (1910) decays through π0π0, ηη, and Ks0Ks0 channels and the flat t-dependence of the X (1910) production cross section., SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

- Abstract
Small Angle Detector (SAD-150) is a PbWO4 heavy crystal electromagnetic calorimeter with high energy and coordinate resolution for multiphoton events. It has been included in the GAMS-4π setup and calibrated in muon and electron beams. Test measurements of forward emitted π0 and η in the π- p charge exchange reactions with 32.5 GeV/c π- at the IHEP proton synchrotron are reported. The measured mass resolution in the η region agrees with the design value SAD-150 performance does not deteriorate with π- intensities up to 106 π-/s per cell., 0, SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

- Abstract
A partial wave analysis of the π0π0 system produced centrally in pp collisions at 450 GeV/c shows evidence for the f0(980), f0(1300) and f0(1500) resonances. f2(1270) is observed dominantly in the D-0 wave. A broad enhancement is seen in the D-waves below 1 GeV. © 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved., SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

- Abstract
The π0π0 system produced in charge-exchange π-p interactions at a primary momentum of 100 GeV/c has been studied. The data employed come from the experiment that was performed at the CERN SPS accelerator and which recorded photons from π0 decays with the aid of the hodoscopic multiphoton GAMS-4000 spectrometer. A partial-wave analysis of the π0π0 system in the mass interval between 0.8 and 3 GeV has been performed with allowance for the S, D, G, and J waves. The S wave has a rather complicated structure, displaying a series of four bumps separated by three dips at about 1, 1.5, and 2 GeV. This suggests the existence of several scalar resonances. The higher waves show clear peaks corresponding to the f2(1270), f4(2050), and f6(2510) mesons, which are produced predominantly via one-pion exchange. The parameters of these mesons and their production cross sections have been determined., 0, SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

- Abstract
The reaction π-p → ηπ0n at primary π- meson momenta of 32, 38, and 100 GeV/c has been studied by using the GAMS facilities. A partial-wave analysis has been performed in the effective-mass range 0.77 ≤ Mηπ0 < 182 GeV/c2. A peak associated with the a2 meson is clearly seen in the D+-wave. The difference of the D+-and P+-wave phases changes abruptly in the region of the a2 mass. A significant contribution of the P+ wave is observed at the a2-mass value and above, but this wave does not show a clear-cut resonance behavior. No significant contribution from exchanges of unnatural spin-parity are observed with the exception of the S-wave contribution in the region of the a0 mass and the D0-wave contribution in the region of the a2 mass., SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

- Abstract
The π0π0-system produced in the charge exchange π-p-reaction at 100 GeV/c has been studied. The experiment was performed at the GERN SPS accelerator with the multiphoton hodoscope spectrometer GAMS-4000. A partial wave analysis was carried out in the mass range from 0.8 GeV to 3.0 GeV at -t < 0.2 (GeV/c)2 with the S, D, G and J waves. The S-wave exhibits rather complicated behaviour with a series of four bumps separated by three dips, at 1 GeV, 1.5 GeV and 2 GeV, which give the evidence for several scalar resonances. Clear peaks corresponding to the f2(1270), f4(2050) and f6(2510) mesons are seen in the higher waves. All the three mesons are produced via a dominating one pion t-channel exchange. The parameters and production cross sections of these mesons are measured., SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

- Abstract
The population of the 20Na resonances at 448, 661, 797, and 887 keV above the proton threshold has been studied in measurements of the 19Ne(p, γ)20Na reaction with radioactive 19Ne beams. The data have been analyzed fully in terms of resonance strengths, enabling a comparison with theoretical estimates and the extraction of upper and lower limits on the resonant part of the 19Ne(p, γ)20Na astrophysical reaction rate. The total cross section of the 19Ne(d,n)20Na reaction has been measured from 0.6 to 1.8 MeV (c.m.). On the basis of the results of a subsequent distorted-wave Born approximation analysis the direct component of the 19Ne(p, γ)20Na astrophysical reaction rate has been calculated in a potential model. The astrophysical implications of the resulting total reaction rate have been investigated: the conditions for the breakout from the hot CNO cycle into the rapid-proton capture process are determined by the preceding 15O(α, γ)19Ne reaction and the photodisintegration of the produced 20Na nuclei will not impede the breakout., SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

- Abstract
The effective mass spectrum of π0 pairs produced in pp central collisions (pp → pfπ0π0ps) at 450 GeV/c, √s = 29 GeV, below 1 GeV differs from that observed in peripheral charge exchange reactions. In particular, there is a large number of events between ππ-threshold and 1 GeV, that interfere with f0(980) destructively. The possible existence of a broad S-wave state is suggested. © 1997 Published by Elsevier Science B.V., 0, SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

- Abstract
18F radioactive beams were used to measure the 18F(p,α) reaction in the c.m. energy ranges of 265-535 keV and 550-740 keV. In each case, a resonant level was clearly detected, of which the resonant strength and some other properties were deduced. The astrophysical reaction rate was calculated down to the novae peak temperature. Consequences for the hot CNO cycles were drawn. © 1997 Elsevier Science B.V., SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published
