Abstract In the context of the mounting crisis of waste management and environmental sustainability, coal bottom ash (CBA) emerges as a pioneering solution in the field of construction. This study, which is a pioneering investigation, delves into the transformative impact of integrating CBA into the fabric of various concrete compositions, which range from traditional mortar to avant-garde geopolymer concrete. A comprehensive evaluation of mechanical properties, including compressive strength, flexural strength, and modulus of elasticity, is conducted alongside a spectrum of durability indicators such as water absorption, chloride ion resistance, and sulfate fortitude. Benchmarks set by global standards such as ASTM and EN serve as our yardstick, revealing that a strategic substitution of up to 10% of sand with CBA not only aligns with these rigorous norms but occasionally surpasses them. For cement, concrete, and geopolymer, the optimal replacement levels of CBA are between 10 and 30%. This enhances mechanical properties and promotes environmental sustainability. Our findings demonstrate the dual benefits of CBA: enhancing the structural integrity and durability of concrete while promoting ecological stewardship. This study not only validates the suitability of CBA as a superior construction material but also encourages the construction industry to pursue a more sustainable and waste-minimizing future.

Rapid shoot and root growth at the early developmental stage of barley is critical for maximising yield and access to water and plant nutrients, particularly in dryland environments. Determining genotypic variation in shoot and root traits at the early seedling stage is essential for germplasm identification. In this study, widely grown old and new barley cultivars and wild barley genotypes were grown in sand media under greenhouse conditions for four weeks. The differences in shoot and root traits between the genotypes, the broad sense heritability and the genetic parameters of these traits were determined. The genotypes showed statistically significant differences for all the traits studied except number of leaves. Old cultivars had higher shoot length, while new cultivars had higher shoot fresh and dry weight. The old cultivars, new cultivars and wild barley genotypes were characterised by root length, root fresh weight and specific root length, respectively. A high correlation was found between root weight and root volume, and it was determined that root volume was more influenced by root thickness than root length. Shoot fresh and dry weight, root fresh weight, root volume and specific root length had the highest broad sense heritability. Among the genotypes, cv. Tokak 157/37 showed potential as a donor for root length and cv. Durusu for root weight and root volume in breeding studies.

Abstract Background During laparoscopic surgery, pneumoperitoneum and Trendelenburg positioning applied to provide better surgical vision can cause many physiological changes as well as an increase in intracranial pressure. However, it has been reported that cerebral autoregulation prevents cerebral edema by regulating this pressure increase. This study aimed to investigate whether the duration of the Trendelenburg position had an effect on the increase in intracranial pressure using ultrasonographic optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) measurements. Methods The near infrared spectrometry monitoring of patients undergoing laparoscopic hysterectomy was performed while awake (T0); at the fifth minute after intubation (T1); at the 30th minute (T2), 60th minute (T3), 75th minute (T4), and 90th minute (T5) after placement in the Trendelenburg position; and at the fifth minute after placement in the neutral position (T6). Results: The study included 25 patients. The measured ONSD values were as follows: T0 right/left, 4.18±0.32/4.18±0.33; T1, 4.75±0.26/4.75±0.25; T2, 5.08±0.19/5.08±0.19; T3, 5.26±0.15/5.26±0.15; T4, 5.36±0.11/5.37±0.12; T5, 5.45±0.09/5.48±0.11; and T6, 4.9±0.24/4.89±0.22 ( p 0.05). Conclusions It was determined that as the Trendelenburg position duration increased, the ONSD values ​​increased. This suggests that as the duration of Trendelenburg positioning and pneumoperitoneum increases, the sustainability of the mechanisms that balance the increase in intracranial pressure becomes insufficient. Midkine (MDK) is a protein that contributes to both physiological and pathological processes. Several studies provide insight into the different roles of MDK in development, tissue repair, neural plasticity, and health and disease processes. This research further examined how MDK contributed to conditions, including neurological diseases, inflammation, and ischaemia. Furthermore, MDK overexpression has been reported in many kinds of cancer and MDK is recognized as a malignancy marker. MDK stimulates pro-tumor activity by regulating a number of signaling pathways, which increase cancer cell proliferation, survival, metastasis, and treatment resistance. However, studies have shown that MDK also functions as a molecule that regulates drug resistance. Several cancer therapy techniques have been suggested to modify MDK function, including antibody-based therapies, oligonucleotides, oncolytic viruses, and small compounds. Further research and experimentation will be required to establish the therapeutic relevance and efficacy of these treatments. This review focuses on the role of MDK in cancer biology, as well as its multiple different roles in health and disease processes.

Children's problem behaviour in the preschool period is a severe obstacle to social-emotional development and a precondition for maladjustment in social relationships during school life. Professionals in the field have been improving existing practices to prevent and intervene in young children's challenging behaviour. To this end, many social-emotional learning curriculums are developed and put into practice. One curriculum that supports children's social-emotional learning during the preschool period is the Second Step Early Learning. The present study looked into the practical experiences of preschool teachers implementing the second step social-emotional learning curriculum. The study group consists of 13 preschool teachers who have received educator training in this learning curriculum and implemented it at schools. The teachers were asked questions about the curriculum's general qualities, its effects on the children's development levels, and their professional development. According to the study results, all teachers stated that the second step curriculum positively contributed to children's emotional and behavioural reactions. It helped them in class management and implementation, such behaviour as having confidence, asking for help, taking responsibility, and taking responsibility-sharing improved. In addition, expressing that they observed differences in hindering anger and in-class problem-solving processes, teachers emphasised that the children were more understanding and polite to each other, especially in free-time activities. Their interaction was healthier than before, and their listening and attention spans increased. Overall, the findings show preschool teachers' experience in implementation. They recommended the curriculum to their colleagues, claiming that it contributed to their professional development.

Summary: Background: During surgery, intraoperative hypotension is associated with postoperative morbidity and should therefore be avoided. Predicting the occurrence of hypotension in advance may allow timely interventions to prevent hypotension. Previous prediction models mostly use high-resolution waveform data, which is often not available. Methods: We utilised a novel temporal fusion transformer (TFT) algorithm to predict intraoperative blood pressure trajectories 7 min in advance. We trained the model with low-resolution data (sampled every 15 s) from 73,009 patients who were undergoing general anaesthesia for non-cardiothoracic surgery between January 1, 2017, and December 30, 2020, at the General Hospital of Vienna, Austria. The data set contained information on patient demographics, vital signs, medication, and ventilation. The model was evaluated using an internal (n = 8113) and external test set (n = 5065) obtained from the openly accessible Vital Signs Database. Findings: In the internal test set, the mean absolute error for predicting mean arterial blood pressure was 0.376 standard deviations—or 4 mmHg—and 0.622 standard deviations—or 7 mmHg—in the external test set. We also adapted the TFT model to binarily predict the occurrence of hypotension as defined by mean arterial blood pressure < 65 mmHg in the next one, three, five, and 7 min. Here, model discrimination was excellent, with a mean area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) of 0.933 in the internal test set and 0.919 in the external test set. Interpretation: Our TFT model is capable of accurately forecasting intraoperative arterial blood pressure using only low-resolution data showing a low prediction error. When used for binary prediction of hypotension, we obtained excellent performance. Funding: No external funding.

Abstract BackgroundOfficial conference hashtags are commonly used to promote tweeting and social media engagement. The reach and impact of introducing a new hashtag during an oncology conference have yet to be studied. The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) conducts an annual global meeting, which was entirely virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021. ObjectiveThis study aimed to assess the reach and impact (in the form of vertices and edges generated) and X (formerly Twitter) activity of the new hashtags #goASCO20 and #goASCO21 in the ASCO 2020 and 2021 virtual conferences. MethodsNew hashtags (#goASCO20 and #goASCO21) were created for the ASCO virtual conferences in 2020 and 2021 to help focus gynecologic oncology discussion at the ASCO meetings. Data were retrieved using these hashtags (#goASCO20 for 2020 and #goASCO21 for 2021). A social network analysis was performed using the NodeXL software application. ResultsThe hashtags #goASCO20 and #goASCO21 had similar impacts on the social network. Analysis of the reach and impact of the individual hashtags found #goASCO20 to have 150 vertices and 2519 total edges and #goASCO20 to have 174 vertices and 2062 total edges. Mentions and tweets between 2020 and 2021 were also similar. The circles representing different users were spatially arranged in a more balanced way in 2021. Tweets using the #goASCO21 hashtag received significantly more responses than tweets using #goASCO20 (75 times in 2020 vs 360 times in 2021; zP ConclusionsIntroducing a gynecologic oncology specialty–specific hashtag (#goASCO20 and #goASCO21) that is related but different from the official conference hashtag (#ASCO20 and #ASCO21) helped facilitate discussion on topics of interest to gynecologic oncologists during a virtual pan-oncology meeting. This impact was visible in the social network analysis.

Aim: This study was aimed to investigate the effect of different hen ages on egg quality characteristics, hatching performance and chick quality in chukar partridges. Materials and Methods: A total of 510 eggs obtained from chukar partridge flocks were used to determine the effects of different hen age on hatching performance, egg quality traits and chick quality. Daily collected 20 eggs from each age group (1, 2 and 3 years of age) were assessed for internal quality characteristics. A total of 150 eggs per each age group were set into incubator and hatcher set. After hatching, unhatched eggs were broken to determine hatching performance and embryonic mortality. Hatched day-old chicks were scored to determine chick quality characteristics. Results: Internal egg quality traits were not statistically affected by different breeding ages. Different breeding ages did not affect hatchability, early and middle embryonic mortality while late embryonic mortality and fertility of eggs were statistically affected. The evaluated chick quality traits were affected by the different hen age. Conclusion: Despite decreasing fertility rate with age, the results of this study suggest incubating eggs of chukar hens with 3 years age for optimum chick quality and being raised chukar hens up to 3 years of age.

Aim: This study aimed to tension-type headache (TTH) investigate the efficacy of greater occipital nerve (GON) blockade performed with dexketoprofen under ultrasonography in patients presenting to the emergency department. Materials and Methods: This prospective, randomized, controlled study was conducted with patients who presented to the emergency department with TTH. The treatment was planned as 50 mg of intravenous (IV) dexketoprofen over 5 min for Group 1 and IV dexketoprofen followed by ultrasonography-guided GON blockade with 0.5% bupivacaine for Group 2. The patients’ demographic characteristics and pain levels according to the 10-cm Visual Analog Scale were recorded at the time of presentation. The pain scores of the patients were recorded at the 10th, 20th, 30th, 60th, and 120th minutes, and the difference between the 0th and 120th minutes was calculated as the delta value. Results: Of the 159 patients included in the study. There was a decrease in the pain scores at the 10th minute in both groups with treatment, and the greatest decrease occurred in Group 2 at the 20th minute. The delta visual analog scale score was found to be 4.71 in Group 1 and 7.11 in Group 2, and it was observed that GON blockade therapy together with IV dexketoprofen reduced the severity of pain more rapidly and effectively than IV dexketoprofen alone. Conclusion: When managing acute pain attacks in patients presenting to the emergency department with TTH, the combined use of IV non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs with a GON block increases treatment outcomes, reduces treatment duration, and enhances the efficacy of analgesics compared with their use alone.

Abstract This research aims to investigate the effect of transformational leadership and personal cultural values on creating a learning organization in the field of physical education and sports in higher education institutions. The sample consisted of 328 academic staff selected through convenience sampling. These participants worked in the field of physical education and sports in higher education institutions and volunteered for the research. The data of the study were collected through “Learning Organization Dimensions Scale” developed by Watkins and Marsick (1997), “Transformational Leadership Scale” by Podsakoff et al. (1990), and “Personal Cultural Values Scale” by Yoo et al. (2011). For the data analysis, Scatter Plot Matrix distributions, multivariate Mardia normality test, and structural equation modeling were utilized. In the creation of a learning organization, it was observed that there was a direct effect of providing vision-inspiration and being an appropriate role model, providing acceptance of group goals, giving intellectual encouragement, paying individual interest, and having high success expectations sub-dimensions of transformational leadership and power distance and collectivism sub-dimensions of personal cultural values. Transformational leadership and personal cultural values are essential for constructing a learning organization. The research can contribute to the development of higher education institutions and their evolution into a learning organization by determining the interaction of the learning organization, transformational leadership, and personal cultural values.

Determining the seismic performance level of shaft structures is crucial due to their vital role in ensuring a water supply. Since these are underground structures, the loads they encounter and the structural modeling processes differ significantly from those of above-ground structures. Accordingly, the primary aim of this paper is to introduce a new modeling methodology for the seismic performance assessment of shaft structures, considering all relevant parameters. This unique approach also incorporates pertinent sections from various applicable local seismic codes. For this purpose, a total of 15 shaft structures located on the historic Atik Valide Waterway, constructed in 1583, were examined. To create numerical models of the shafts, soil exploration parameters were utilized, and the shaft surface-soil interaction was represented by nonlinear p-y springs. An integral part of the presented methodology involved segmenting the shafts at regular intervals, with each segment defined as a separate story. The analysis results demonstrated that the modeling methodology is accurate and aligns well with the observed conditions of the shafts. Considering the significant risk of extensive damage to sewerage systems in urban areas due to soil liquefaction during seismic events, this study is anticipated to serve as a valuable reference in the literature by introducing a new, accurate methodology for identifying potential seismic risks.

Within this frame, writing has evolved in second language education as a result of technological changes. There have been a great number of studies on the benefits of computer-assisted writing. On the other hand, some studies suggest that writing on a computer has drawbacks, especially for creativity and originality. To contribute to this ever-lasting debate, this study hypothesizes that computer-assisted writing has a positive role on generation Z (Gen Z). In a study by Adobe (2016), Gen Z students are found to see tech and creativity as an important and intersecting aspect of their identities. This case study explores the Turkish middle school students' experiences on the integration of a digital storytelling tool called Storybird in their English classrooms. The current study is conducted at a state school with the participation of 6 students who are in 8th grades. The main goal of this research study is to discover the students' overall reflections on writing English through Storybird web 2.0 tools. The data is collected through pre- and post- open-ended questionnaires, observations, and pictures. The results show that Storybird has a positive impact on the students' perspectives towards L2 writing. Accordingly, it can be deducted from the findings that Storybird can be used as an effective digital tool for enhancing L2 writing in an EFL classroom.
