Abstract

Background: FGFR alterations are reported across various malignancies and might act as oncogenic drivers in multiple histologies. Erdafitinib is an oral, selective pan-FGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor with activity in FGFR-altered advanced urothelial carcinoma. We aimed to evaluate the safety and activity of erdafitinib in previously treated patients with FGFR-altered advanced solid tumours. Methods: The single-arm, phase 2 RAGNAR study was conducted at 156 investigative centres (hospitals or oncology practices that are qualified oncology study centres) across 15 countries. The study consisted of four cohorts based on tumour histology and patient age; the results reported in this Article are for the primary cohort of the study, defined as the Broad Panel Cohort, which was histology-agnostic. We recruited patients aged 12 years or older with advanced or metastatic tumours of any histology (except urothelial cancer) with predefined FGFR1–4 alterations (mutations or fusions according to local or central testing). Eligible patients had disease progression on at least one previous line of systemic therapy and no alternative standard therapy available to them, and an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status of 0–1 (or equivalent for adolescents aged 12–17 years). Patients received once-daily oral erdafitinib (8 mg/day with provision for pharmacodynamically guided up-titration to 9 mg/day) on a continuous 21-day cycle until disease progression or intolerable toxicity. The primary endpoint was objective response rate by independent review committee according to Response Evaluation Criteria In Solid Tumors (RECIST), version 1.1, or Response Assessment In Neuro-Oncology (RANO). Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) has been proposed as a marker of insulin resistance (IR) and has shown associations with cardiovascular diseases. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the TyG and the coronary slow flow phenomenon (CSFP) and explore the index's potential as a predictor of this condition. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 187 patients who underwent coronary angiography were included; of these, 91 patients were diagnosed with CSFP, and 96 patients with normal coronary flow served as a control group. The TyG was calculated using fasting triglyceride and glucose levels. RESULTS: The results showed that the TyG was significantly higher in the CSFP group compared with the control group (p < 0.001). Additionally, the TyG exhibited a moderate positive correlation with the thrombolysis-in-myocardial-infarction frame count in coronary arteries (p < 0.001). A multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that the TyG, along with gender, ejection fraction, and uric acid, remained significant predictors of CSFP (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: This study's findings s uggest that the TyG may serve as a useful marker for identifying individuals at risk of CSFP and provide insights into the potential role of IR in its pathophysiology. 7. Effect of hydrochloric acid corrosion and CFRP coating on the buckling behavior of cylindrical shells under external pressure.

Abstract

Thin-walled cylindrical shells are widely used as silos, liquid tanks, marine structures, and industrial chemical plants. In such applications, the shells are mostly exposed to liquids. Corrosion occurs on surfaces when shells are filled with low-pH liquids. Corroded material loss decreases the thickness of the shells which in turn lessens their buckling capacity. The current study primarily aims to investigate the effects of corrosion on the buckling capacity of thin-walled cylindrical shells subjected to uniform external pressure. The model shells were half- or full-filled with 5% and 10% HCl (Hydrochloric Acid) solutions for corrosion. In order to attenuate the negative effects of corrosion, the cylinders were coated with varying sizes of Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) sheets. A total of 12 models of 800 x 400 x 0:45 mm in dimension were investigated in this research. The perfect non-corroded models were employed to compare the behavior of all models under study. The obtained results indicated that corrosion would cause a significant decrease in the buckling capacity of thin-walled cylindrical shells. It should be noted that the acid ratio, filling rate, and surface area coated with CFRP fabrics considerably affected the buckling capacity of cylinders. Abstract

Background: understanding SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence among health care personnel is important to ex-plore risk factors for transmission, develop elimination strategies and form a view on the necessity and frequency of surveillance in the future. Methods: we enrolled 4927 health care personnel working in pediatric units at 32 hospitals from 7 different regions of Turkey in a study to determine SARS Co-V-2 seroprevalence after the first peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. A point of care serologic lateral flow rapid test kit for immunoglobulin (Ig)M/IgG was used. Seroprevalence and its association with demographic characteristics and possible risk factors were analyzed. Results: SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity prevalence in health care personnel tested was 6.1%. Seropositivity was more common among those who did not universally wear protective masks (10.6% vs 6.1%). Having a COVID-19-positive co-worker increased the likelihood of infection. The least and the most experienced personnel were more likely to be infected. Most of the seropositive health care personnel (68.0%) did not suspect that they had previously had COVID-19. Conclusions: health surveillance for health care personnel involving routine point-of-care nucleic acid testing and monitoring personal protective equipment adherence are suggested as important strategies to protect health care personnel from COVID-19 and reduce nosocomial SARS-CoV-2 transmission., NA

Abstract

The taxonogenomic approach, including the culturomics techniques, is now currently used to isolate and characterize new bacteria. These approaches notably allowed us to discover six new species of the Actinomyces genus: Actinomyces ihuae strain SD1, Actinomyces bouchesdurhonensis strain Marseille-P2825, Actinomyces urinae strain Marseille-P2225, Actinomyces marseillensis strain Marseille-P2818, Actinomyces mediterranea strain Marseille-P3257 and Actinomyces oralis strain Marseille-P3109. Each is the type strain of the corresponding bacterial species. 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequence comparison was used to classify these strains among the Actinomyces genus. These strains are all Gram positive, rod shaped and facultative aerobic. We describe the main characteristics of each bacterium and present their complete genome sequence and annotation. Abstract

International audience; The interest in studying gut microbiota has been rekindled with the advent of molecular techniques, in particular, metagenomics. Culturomics (high throughput microbial culture with identification of the colonies by Maldi-TOF) has demonstrated its complementarity with metagenomics for comprehensive study of the microbiota. The main metagenomic studies have revealed an increase in biodiversity, with in particular an increase of Spirochaetes and Prevotella in subjects of African origin compared with Western subjects. Studies on malnutrition have shown a reduction of all bacteria and in particular of anaerobic bacteria and methanogenic archaea. Of the 1,162 bacteria isolated by culturomics studies, 476 were isolated only from non-African samples, 445 were isolated in African and non-African groups, and 241 bacteria were isolated from samples of African origin including 68 new species. Further studies of African microbiota by culturomics and metagenomics will make it possible to assess whether some bacteria have particular specificities and if these might play a role in certain pathologies such as malnutrition.

Abstract

Culturomics is a concept developing different culture conditions in order to enlarge our knowledge of the human microbiota through the discovery of previously uncultured bacteria. This enabled us to isolate six new species of the Bacteroides genus: Bacteroides mediterraneensis strain Marseille-P2644, Bacteroides ihuae strain Marseille-P2824, Bacteroides togonis strain Marseille-P3166, Bacteroides ndongoniae strain Marseille-P3108, Bacteroides ilei strain Marseille-P3208 and Bacteroides congonensis strain Marseille-P3132. Those bacteria are Gram-negative anaerobic bacilli. We describe here their phenotypic features, together with phylogenetic analysis, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry spectrum, fatty acid composition, and genome sequencing and annotation. Abstract

In this study, variations in permeability of a gold ore by nut shell addition was studied. Ore particle size, nut shell size and volume fraction in the ore were the parameters investigated. Permeability is an important issue in heap leach operations considering the processing duration. Particularly below 6 mm particle size permeability is greatly hampered. Turkey is the leading country in the world in hazelnut production. Therefore, considerable amounts of nut shell are obtained as a by-product. Incerase in the permeability of a finely crushed ore will obviously enable an increase in the leaching efficiency. The finer the particle size the more the liberation of gold is yet the permeability is lower. Therefore, this study focuses on the possibility of improving the permeability of ore heaps with nut shell addition. Optimum amount of nut shell which should be added to the ore was found to be 5% by volume. It was found that the permeability of ore crushed below 2.36 mm considerably increased by the addition of nut shell below 18 mm. © Wroclaw University of Science and Technology.

Abstract

25th International Mining Congress of Turkey: New Trends in Mining, IMCET 2017 -- 11 April 2017 through 14 April 2017 -- -- 127813, In this study, Tincal samples from Bandirma Boron Plant were taken for the period of October 2015. Tincal samples from the feed stream were collected for a one-month period on daily basis. A total number of 31 samples were analyzed in terms of moisture content and B2O3 grade. Moisture content and grade of the run of mine ore have an effect on the recovery of the boron processing plant. Concentrate grade was also determined at the same period where feed samples were collected and a correlation was tried to be established. Recovery of the plant was calculated each day as assuming the daily feed amount of Tincal as 500 tonnes (monthly 15000 tonnes) and daily product of 200 tonnes (monthly 6000 tonnes). Feed Tincal moisture contents vary between 2.77% and 5.54%. Although this range of moisture content is not a big deal, it might be related with increase or decrease in recovery percentages. B2O3 grade of the feed ore varied between 22.67 % and 27.25%. This approximately 5% range could be meaningfull, an increase in feed grade would also cause an increase in product B2O3 grade as expected. In this study, feed moisture and feed grade was correlated with recovery and a new method to predict recovery is proposed. According to this new method, recovery of B2O3 would be easily calculated by just employing the moisture content and grade data of run of mine ore. Very high correlation coefficient (R2=0.99) between measured and predicted recovery was achieved. This proposed method would enable one to better understand the effect of moisture content and tenor of run of mine ore on recovery.

Résumé: L'étude du microbiote digestif a connu un regain d'intérêt avec l'avènement des techniques moléculaires, en particulier la métagénomique. La culturomics (culture microbienne à haut débit avec identification des colonies par Maldi-TOF) a démontré sa complémentarité avec la métagénomique pour une étude exhaustive du microbiote. Les principales études de métagénomique ont révélé une augmentation de la biodiversité, avec en particulier une augmentation des Spirochaetes et des Prevotella chez les sujets d'origine africaine par rapport aux sujets occidentaux. Les études portant sur la malnutrition ont démontré une réduction de l'ensemble des bactéries et en particulier des bactéries anaérobies et des archées méthanogènes. Sur les 1162 bactéries isolées par étude de culturomics, 476 ont été isolées seulement de prélèvements d'origine autre que d'Afrique, 445 ont été isolées en commun et 241 bactéries n'ont été isolées qu'à partir de prélèvements d'origine africaine dont 68 nouvelles espèces. La poursuite d'études du microbiote africain par culturomics et métagénomique permettra d'élucider s'il existe une spécificité de certaines bactéries et si elles peuvent avoir un rôle dans certaines pathologies telles que la malnutrition. The interest in studying gut microbiota has been rekindled with the advent of molecular techniques, in particular, metagenomics. Culturomics (high throughput microbial culture with identification of the colonies by Maldi-TOF) has demonstrated its complementarity with metagenomics for comprehensive study of the microbiota. The main metagenomic studies have revealed an increase in biodiversity, with in particular an increase of Spirochaetes and Prevotella in subjects of African origin compared with Western subjects. Studies on malnutrition have shown a reduction of all bacteria and in particular of anaerobic bacteria and methanogenic archaea. Of the 1,162 bacteria isolated by culturomics studies, 476 were isolated only from non-African samples, 445 were isolated in African and non-African groups, and 241 bacteria were isolated from samples of African origin including 68 new species. Further studies of African microbiota by culturomics and metagenomics will make it possible to assess whether some bacteria have particular specificities and if these might play a role in certain pathologies such as malnutrition. 40. Infiltration of Al alloys into MgAl2O4 under different atmospheres

Abstract

The reactions between spinel (MgAl2O4) and Al alloys of different compositions were investigated at temperatures of between 800-1250degreesC for different times under different atmospheres of air and nitrogen. Although Al metal did not infiltrate into the spinel in ambient atmosphere, oxide growth on the metal surface took place at temperatures of 1250degreesC depending on the alloy composition and firing time. Spontaneous infiltration of the Al metal into the spinel occured under nitrogen at 900degreesC. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the composite consisted of MgAl2O4, Al, MgO and Al2O3. The resultant microstructure was also investigated by scanning electron microscopy.

41. Production of anorthite from kaolinite and CaCO3 via colemanite

Abstract

Boron oxide has been found to be useful flux for the preparation of dense anorthite ceramics (CaO.Al2O3.2SiO(2)). Inexpensive starting materials of kaolinite, calcium carbonate and silica were used for anorthite ceramic production. Colemanite (2CaO.3B(2)O(3).5H(2)O) was added into the mixtures and the effects of colemanite upon the transformation towards anorthite and on the densification were investigated between 900-1400 degreesC. Single phase anorthite ceramic formed at lower temperatures in boron containing mixtures. Boron containing powder compacts were sintered above 90% theoretical density at 1350 degreesC.
