Abstract

The utilization of intrusion detection systems (IDS) can significantly enhance the security of IT infrastructure. Machine learning (ML) methods have emerged as a promising approach to improving the capabilities of IDS. The primary objective of an IDS is to detect various types of malicious intrusions with a high detection rate while minimizing false alarms, surpassing the capabilities of a firewall. However, developing an IDS for IOT poses substantial challenges due to the massive volume of data that needs to be processed. To address this, an optimal approach is required to improve the accuracy of data containing numerous attacks. In this study, we propose a novel IDS model that employs the Random Forest, Decision Tree, and Logistic Regression algorithms using a specialized ML technique known as Ensemble Learning. For this research, we used the BoT-IoT datasets as inputs for the IDS model to distinguish between malicious and benign network traffic. To determine the best model, we compared the performance metrics of each algorithm across different parameter combinations. The research findings demonstrate exceptional performance, with metric scores exceeding 99.995% for all parameter combinations. Based on these conclusive results, we deduce that the proposed model achieves remarkable success and outperforms other traditional ML-based IDS models in terms of performance metrics. These outcomes highlight the potential of our novel IDS model to enhance the security posture of IoT-based systems significantly.

Abstract

Introduction: Glioblastoma (GBM) patients have a 20–30 incidence of venous thromboembolic events. EGFR is a widely used prognostic marker for many cancers. Recent lung cancer studies have described relationships between EGFR amplification and an increased incidence of thromboembolic complications. We aim to explore this relationship in glioblastoma patients. Methods: Two hundred ninety-three consecutive patients with IDH wild-type GBM were included in the analysis. The amplification status of EGFR was measured using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Centromere 7 (CEP7) expression was recorded to calculate the EGFR-to-CEP7 ratio. All data were collected retrospectively through chart review. Molecular data were obtained through the surgical pathology report at the time of biopsy. Results: There were 112 subjects who were EGFR-amplified (38.2%) and 181 who were non-amplified (61.8%). EGFR amplification status was not significantly correlated with VTE risk overall (p = 0.2001). There was no statistically significant association between VTE and EGFR status after controlling for Bevacizumab therapy (p = 0.1626). EGFR non-amplified status was associated with an increased VTE risk in subjects greater than 60 years of age (p = 0.048). Conclusions: There was no significant difference in occurrence of VTE in patients with glioblastoma, regardless of EGFR amplification status. Patients older than 60 years of age with EGFR amplification experienced a lower rate of VTE, contrary to some reports on non-small-cell lung cancer linking EGFR amplification to VTE risk.

Abstract

Mercury is a natural, long-lasting, and bio-accumulative contaminant found in both soil and water. Mercury is toxic and its organic derivative, methylmercury (MeHg), could be lethal. The increasing level of mercury in the environment is a threat, as it can easily enter the food chain upon exposure. Zero-valent iron nanoparticle (nZVI), an environmentally friendly nanomaterial, is envisaged as an ideal candidate for the remediation of metal pollutions in soil and water bodies. Due to low toxicity and decent activity, nZVI and its corrosion products have shown huge potential for the removal of heavy metals from soil and water. It has been widely applied for the removal of heavy metals including mercury and other organic and inorganic contaminants. In this review, the current preparation methodology, characterization techniques, reductive mechanism for heavy metal removal with focus on mercury is reviewed. This review discusses the use of nZVI for the removal of mercury and demonstrates that nZVI possesses high reactivities for mercury removal and have great application prospects in environmental remediation. Some recommendations are proposed and conclusions drawn for future research.

Abstract

Introduction: Resection of intra-axial tumors (IaT) in eloquent brain regions risks major postoperative neurological deficits. Awake craniotomy is often used to navigate these areas; however, some patients are ineligible for awake procedures. The trans-sulcal approach (TScal) was introduced to reduce parenchymal trauma during tumor resection. We report our experiences utilizing TScal for resection of deep IaT located in eloquent areas. Materials and Methods: This is a single-center retrospective analysis of patients who underwent IaT resection in eloquent areas via TScal from January 2013 to April 2021. Seventeen cases were reviewed, and relevant data was collected. Fluorescence-guided surgery with 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) and intraoperative ultrasound was performed in some cases. Results: Seventeen patients (10 males, 7 females) averaging 61.2 years-old (range, 21–76) were included in this study. Average length of stay was 4.8 days, and only 2 patients (11.8%) required hospital readmission within 30 days. Gross total resection (GTR) was achieved in 15 patients (88.2%), while subtotal resection occurred in 2 patients (11.8%). Eleven patients (64.7%) reported full resolution of symptoms, 4 patients (23.5%) reported deficit improvement, and 2 patients (11.8%) experienced no change from their preoperative deficits. No patient developed new permanent deficits postoperatively. Discussion: GTR, preoperative deficit reduction, and complications were comparable to awake craniotomy and other TScal studies. Ancillary intraoperative techniques, such as brain mapping, 5-ALA and intraoperative ultrasound, are afforded by TScal to improve resection rates and overall outcomes. Conclusions: TScal can be an option for patients with deep lesions in eloquent areas who are not candidates for awake surgeries.

Abstract

Summary: Background: Early death after cancer surgery is higher in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) compared with in high-income countries, yet the impact of facility characteristics on early postoperative outcomes is unknown. The aim of this study was to examine the association between hospital infrastructure, resource availability, and processes on early outcomes after cancer surgery worldwide. Methods: A multimethods analysis was performed as part of the GlobalSurg 3 study—a multicentre, international, prospective cohort study of patients who had surgery for breast, colorectal, or gastric cancer. The primary outcomes were 30-day mortality and 30-day major complication rates. Potentially beneficial hospital facilities were identified by variable selection to select those associated with 30-day mortality. Adjusted outcomes were determined using generalised estimating equations to account for patient characteristics and country-income group, with population stratification by hospital. Findings: Between April 1, 2018, and April 23, 2019, facility-level data were collected for 9685 patients across 238 hospitals in 66 countries (91 hospitals in 20 high-income countries; 57 hospitals in 19 upper-middle-income countries; and 90 hospitals in 27 low-income to lower-middle-income countries). The availability of five hospital facilities was inversely associated with mortality: ultrasound, CT scanner, critical care unit, opioid analgesia, and oncologist. Abstract

BackgroundDespite improvements in surgical techniques, cranial nerve (CN) deficits remain the most frequent cause of disability following cavernous sinus (CS) surgery. The most common tumor affecting the CS is meningioma. They originate from lateral wall and have their blood supply from meningohypophyseal trunk (MHT) and inferolateral trunk (ILT). Pituitary adenomas commonly invade the CS through its medial wall and receive blood supply form medial branches of the internal carotid artery (ICA) (superior and inferior hypophyseal arteries). Some tumors may grow within the CS (e.g. trigeminal schwannomas, hemangiomas). These tumors are fed by all the intracavernous ICA branches. Tumors involving the CS may also displace the neurovascular structures, therefore, a better understanding of intracavernous neurovascular anatomy may reduce the postoperative morbidity associated with approaching CS tumors. In this anatomical study, the anatomic variations and their clinical implications of the intracavernous CNs’ blood supply were evaluated through transcranial and endonasal routes.MethodsTwenty sides of ten adult cadaveric formalin-fixed, latex-injected specimens were dissected in stepwise fashion under microscopic and endoscopic magnification. The origin and course of the intracavernous ICA branches supplying the intracavernous CNs are studied.ResultsThe proximal segment of the oculomotor nerve receives blood supply from the ILT in 85%, and the tentorial artery of the MHT in 15% of specimens. The distal segment is exclusively supplied by the ILT. The proximal trochlear nerve receives blood supply from the ILT (75%) and the tentorial artery (25%); the distal segment is exclusively supplied by the superior orbital branch. The proximal third of the abducens nerve receives its vascularity exclusively from the dorsal meningeal artery, and its middle and distal thirds from the ILT. The ophthalmic and proximal maxillary segments of the trigeminal nerve also receive blood supply from the ILT. The distal maxillary segment is supplied by the artery of the foramen rotundum. All ILT branches terminate on the inferomedial aspects of the intra-cavernous CNs. Extensive anastomoses are found between ILT branches and the branches arising from external carotid artery.ConclusionUnderstanding the anatomy of the intracavernous ICA’s branches is important to improving surgical outcomes with tumors involving the CS.

Abstract

Craniophyringiomas are histologically benign tumors arising from embryonic epithelial cells of the craniopharyngeal duct. They are locally aggressive and their location in the sellar/supra-sellar region is associated with a high rate of recurrence and morbidity. It is generally recognized that surgical resection is the first treatment option. Craniopharyngiomas located in the retrochiasmatic area are among the most challenging to treat. They grow superiorly pushing floor of third ventricle, and posteriorly in the prepontine and interpeduncular cisterns. Different skull base approaches have been utilized to tackle tumors in this location. In this video we illustrate the surgical steps and nuances for resection of a large retrochiasmatic craniopharyngioma in a 25 YO RHF who presented with progressive headaches and visual decline. On neurological examination she was found to have bi-temporal hemianopia. An MRI scan of the brain showed a 4.5 × 3.2 × 4.3 cm mixed solid and cystic suprasellar mass with obstructive hydrocephalus located behind the optic chiasm. A brain CTA showed no displacement of the anterior communicating artery confirming the retrochiasmatic location of the tumor. The preoperative endocrine work up showed central hypothyroidism and low cortisol levels. Postoperatively the patient was extubated in the operating room, she had intact extra-ocular movements. She developed Diabetes insipidus and oculomotor nerve palsy on postoperative day 3. Her third nerve palsy recovered when she was seen 3 weeks postoperatively. The histopathology showed an adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma. The posterior petrosal approach should be considered in treating patients with Retrochiasmatic Craniopharyngiomas. The consent was obtained.

With the rapidly emerging trend of employing Artificial Intelligence technologies within modern economics. This study is an attempt to fill the research gap associated with the factors that have influence with the adoption of artificial intelligence in human resources information systems on HR-leaders intention to use it. It empirically investigates the influences that trust, technological readiness, facilitating condition and performance expectancy on HR-professional’s behavioral intention to use AI in HRM. Besides, examine the moderating effect of age and experience on the proposed associations. Data were collected from by online questionnaire from 185 HR managers. A structural framework was introduced to test the relationship between study latent variables. Result exhibited that trust and performance expectancy has a significant influence on HR-professionals behavioral intention to use AI-HRIS. Trust and technological readiness showed a significant influence on HR-professionals performance expectancy of using AI-HRIS. While facilitating condition, organizational size and technological readiness did not show a significant influence on HR-professionals behavioral intention toward using AI-HRIS. Lastly, Age and Experience did not have a moderating effect on trust and performance expectancy association with the behavioral intention toward using AI-HRIS. The findings of this study contribute to the theory development of information technology diffusion in HRM.

Abstract

Because of easy dyeing operations and high durability throughout the washing process, azo dyes of a reactive nature are widely employed in textile coloring methods. About twenty to forty percent of these colors stay in the effluents. As a result of their reactive, toxic, and stable nature, discharges of such effluent into receiving waterways might be dangerous to exposed species. Azo dyes are the most common cause of mutation and cancer among xenobiotic contaminants. The removal of these pigments, as well as the clean-up of linked polluted areas, remains a global challenge. The sorption of reactive dyes on diverse adsorbing agents like bacteria, fungus, algae, water plants, and chitosan has been well-researched, etc. Various adsorbing agents like Lentinus sajor-caju, Spirogyra majuscule, pistachio husk, Hydrilla verticillate, chitosan, palm oil industry waste, clay were utilized to remove Reactive Red (RR) 120. This study investigates the synthesis of Chitosan-enhanced Nano Zero-Valent Iron (CS-nZVI), the adsorption of RR dye by the synthesized material as well as its kinetic and isothermal studies. The adsorptive capability was calculated to be 3.017481mg/g. Kinetic model – pseudo-1st, pseudo-2nd, and elovich models, isotherm models— Langmuir, Freundlich, Jovanovic, Sips, Vieth-Sladek, Khan, Radke-Prausnitz and Unilan, were utilized as well as non-linear regression fittings. Discriminatory analyses of statistical data centered on RMSE (root-mean-square error), adjR2 (adjusted coefficient of determination), AF (accuracy factor), AICc (Akaike Information Criterion corrected) BF (bias factor), were used in finding the superior fit model. The best kinetic models were both pseudo-1st and pseudo 2nd order and the best isotherm model was Vieth-Sladek. The results obtained suggest reliable isothermal and kinetic behavior that will allow the fitting of several models when the zero-valent iron nanoparticle is used in the adsorption of other anionic azo dyes. Abstract

Building an accurate and reliable model for prediction for different application domains, is one of the most significant challenges in knowledge discovery and data mining. This thesis focuses on building and enhancing a generic predictive model for estimating a future value by extracting association rules (knowledge) from a quantitative database. This model is applied to several data sets obtained from different benchmark problems, and the results are evaluated through extensive experimental tests. The thesis presents an incremental development process for the prediction model with three stages. Firstly, a Knowledge Discovery (KD) model is proposed by integrating Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) with Apriori approach to extract Fuzzy Association Rules (FARs) from a database for building a Knowledge Base (KB) to predict a future value. The KD model has been tested with two road-traffic data sets. Secondly, the initial model has been further developed by including a diversification method in order to improve a reliable FARs to find out the best and representative rules. The resulting Diverse Fuzzy Rule Base (DFRB) maintains high quality and diverse FARs offering a more reliable and generic model. The model uses FCM to transform quantitative data into fuzzy ones, while a Multiple Support Apriori (MSapriori) algorithm is adapted to extract the FARs from fuzzy data. The correlation values for these FARs are calculated, and an efficient orientation for filtering FARs is performed as a post-processing method. The FARs diversity is maintained through the clustering of FARs, based on the concept of the sharing function technique used in multi-objectives optimization. The best and the most diverse FARs are obtained as the DFRB to utilise within the Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) for prediction. The third stage of development proposes a hybrid prediction model called Fuzzy Associative Classification Rule Mining (FACRM) model. This model integrates the ii improved Gustafson-Kessel (G-K) algorithm, the proposed Fuzzy Associative Classification Rules (FACR) algorithm and the proposed diversification method. The improved G-K algorithm transforms quantitative data into fuzzy data, while the FACR generate significant rules (Fuzzy Classification Association Rules (FCARs)) by employing the improved multiple support threshold, associative classification and vertical scanning format approaches. These FCARs are then filtered by calculating the correlation value and the distance between them. The advantage of the proposed FACRM model is to build a generalized prediction model, able to deal with different application domains. The validation of the FACRM model is conducted using different benchmark data sets from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) of machine learning and KEEL (Knowledge Extraction based on Evolutionary Learning) repositories, and the results of the proposed FACRM are also compared with other existing prediction models. The experimental results show that the error rate and generalization performance of the proposed model is better in the majority of data sets with respect to the commonly used models. A new method for feature selection entitled Weighting Feature Selection (WFS) is also proposed. The WFS method aims to improve the performance of FACRM model. The prediction performance is improved by minimizing the prediction error and reducing the number of generated rules. The prediction results of FACRM by employing WFS have been compared with that of FACRM and Stepwise Regression (SR) models for different data sets. The performance analysis and comparative study show that the proposed prediction model provides an effective approach that can be used within a decision support system.

23. Test of the Randomness of Residuals and Detection of Potential Outliers for the Modified Gompertz Model Used in the Fitting of the Growth of Shigella flexneri

Abstract

The formulation of hypotheses and the recommendation of experiments as the subsequent stages of the research process are both brought about as a result of the utilization of complicated computer models that make it possible to represent intricate biological processes. Because these systems rely on random data, this is a necessity for all parametric statistical assessment procedures. When the diagnostic tests reveal that the residuals make up a pattern, there are a few different treatment choices available to choose from. Two of these alternatives include running a nonparametric analysis or switching to a new model. In this study, we use the Wald-Wolfowitz runs test as a statistical diagnosis tool to determine whether or not the randomization conditions have been met. The runs test found that there were 5 total runs, although the randomness assumption predicted 7.46 runs. The null hypothesis is not rejected since the p-value is greater than 0.05; this suggests that there is no convincing evidence of the residuals' non-randomness; rather, the residuals represent noise. In addition, the Grubb’s outlier test shows no indication of an outlier, further corroborate the scenario of the adequacy of the modified Gompertz model used in the fitting of the growth of Shigella flexneri.

24. Mathematical Isothermal Modeling of Remazol Black B Biosorption by Aspergillus flavus

Abstract

Azo dyes, like Remazol Black B, form covalent bonds with textile fibers like cotton, setting them apart from traditional dyes. Due to their advantageous qualities of vivid color, water resistance, straightforward application processes, and low energy consumption, they are widely used in the textile industry. Major environmental effects of their discharge into receiving streams include reduced photosynthesis in aquatic life as a result of decreased light penetration. Seven isotherm models—Henry, Langmuir, Freundlich, BET, Toth, Fritz-Schlunder IV, and Fritz-Schlunder V—were used to analyze the biosorption isotherm data of Remazol Black B dye biosorption by Aspergillus flavus and were fitted using non-linear regression. Based on statistical analysis, the Fritz-Schlunder IV was determined to be the best model using root-mean-square error (RMSE), adjusted coefficient of determination (adjR2), bias factor (BF), accuracy factor (AF), corrected AICc (Akaike Information Criterion), Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC), and Hannan-Quinn information criterion (HQC). The calculated Fritz-Schlunder IV parameter, bFS value was found to be 3.812 mg/g (95% confidence interval of 0.312 to 7.311) and qmFS value of 0.0224 (95% confidence interval of -21725.002 to 21725.047).

Pesticides Pollutants are a major ecological issue because they kill organisms that are not their intended targets. Even in trace amounts, their diversity, toxicity, and durability are harmful to natural systems. High levels of malathion in the air, water, or food can make breathing difficult, tighten the chest, cause nausea, cramps, diarrhoea, watery eyes, impaired vision, salivation, perspiration, headaches, and even cause death. Two kinetic models—pseudo-1st- and pseudo-2nd order were used to examine the sorption isotherm of malathion onto Bacillus sp. S14, and they were fitted using non-linear regression. The pseudo-1st order model was found to be the best model by statistical analysis based on root-mean-square error (RMSE), adjusted coefficient of determination (adjR2), bias factor (BF), accuracy factor (AF), corrected AICc (Akaike Information Criterion), Bayesian information criterion (BIC), and Hannan-Quinn information criterion (HQC). A kinetic study employing the pseudo-1st order model at 150 PPM yielded an equilibrium sorption capacity qe of 4.19 mg/g (95% confidence interval from 4.137448 to 4.257148) and a pseudo-1st-order rate constant, k1 of 0.53. (95 percent confidence interval from 0.510371 to 0.559508). Further analysis is required to give evidence for the chemisorption mechanism commonly associated with this kinetic.

Abstract

The rice milling process produces rice husk as a by-product. It is one of the most important agricultural leftovers in terms of volume. The data of the sorption isotherm of crystal violet (CV) sorption onto modified charred rice husk, which was plotted using linearized plots of isothermal models were reanalyzed using twenty isothermal models using nonlinear regression. Nineteen models — Henry, Langmuir, Freundlich, Jovanovic, Redlich-Peterson, Sips, Toth, Hill, Khan, BET, Vieth-Sladek, Radke-Prausnitz, Fritz-Schlunder III, Unilan, Baudu, Marczewski-Jaroniec, Fritz-Schluender IV, Weber-van Vliet and Fritz-Schluender V – fitted the data best using non-linear regression. Statistical analysis based on error function analyses such as root-mean-square error (RMSE), adjusted coefficient of determination (adjR2), accuracy factor (AF), bias factor (BF), Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC), corrected AICc (Akaike Information Criterion), and Hannan-Quinn Criterion (HQC) showed that Jovanovic model was the best model. The maximal adsorption capacity in the Jovanovic model, expressed in milligrams per gram (mg/g), is denoted by qmJ while Kj is the Jovanovic constant, and the calculated values were 55.979 mg/L (95% confidence interval; 52.556 to 59.403) and 0.010 (95% confidence interval; 0.008 to 0.012), respectively. The nonlinear regression method provides parameter values within the 95% confidence interval, facilitating improved comparability with prior research.

Abstract

The widespread use of chromium in industrial applications such as leather tanning, metallurgy, electroplating, and refractory materials has resulted in it being one of the most harmful trace elements to be introduced into surface and ground waters. Kinetic analysis using the pseudo-1st order model at 400 mg/L 4-BDE gave a value of equilibrium sorption capacity qe of 31.89 mg g-1 (95% confidence interval from 30.37 to 33.42) and a value of the pseudo-1st-order rate constant, k1 of 0.22 (95% confidence interval from 0.019 to 0.025). Further analysis is needed to provide proof for the chemisorption mechanism usually tied to this kinetic.

Abstract

An example of biosorption is when the sorbent is made from a biodegradable material. Biosorption is now being seen as a simple, cost-effective, and environmentally acceptable alternative to traditional pollution treatment methods. Bioremediation is one of the branches of bioremediation that is used to minimise pollution in the context of incorrect dye waste disposal. The sorption isotherm of Ethyl Violet onto graphene oxide were analyzed using three models—pseudo-1st, pseudo-2nd and Elovich, and fitted using non-linear regression. Statistical analysis based on root-mean-square error (RMSE), adjusted coefficient of determination (adjR2), bias factor (BF), accuracy factor (AF), corrected AICc (Akaike Information Criterion), Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) and Hannan–Quinn information criterion (HQC) that showed that the pseudo-second-order model was the best which was the same finding from the original published work. The calculated evidence ratio was 11 with an AICc probability value of 0.91 indicating that the best model was at least 11 times better than the nearest best model, which was pseudo-1st. Further analysis is needed to provide proof for the mechanism usually tied to this kinetic. Nonlinear regression analysis using the pseudo-2nd order model for the highest concentration tested, which was 10 mM, gave values of equilibrium sorption capacity qe of 30.928 mg/g (95% confidence interval from 29.328 to 32.527) and a value of the pseudo-2nd-order rate constant, k2 of 0.020 (95% confidence interval from 0.011 to 0.028).

Abstract

Percutaneous balloon compression (BC) is a well-established technique that can provide immediate relief to patients suffering from trigeminal neuralgia (TN). The general procedure of BC uses fluoroscopy imaging to guide the needle through the foramen ovale (FO). The aim of this study was to describe our experience with a novel technique using intraoperative contrast-enhanced DynaCT as an adjunct for more accurate and safer guidance of the needle to the FO. In this study, DynaCT was used to perform BC in 20 TN cases. The three-dimensional path of the needle was pre-planned using DynaCT obtained during the administration of IV contrast. The FO was accessed in a single pass along the path pre-determined from the DynaCT images, avoiding any major arteries and veins. DynaCT was also used for confirmation of the final position of the needle prior to insertion of the balloon as well as for confirmation of the position of the balloon after inflation. Intravenous contrast-enhanced DynaCT-guided percutaneous BC allowed precise advancement and positioning of the needle within the FO. It facilitated cannulation of the FO along a pre-determined path that avoided any major vascular structures. Clinical outcomes were excellent—all patients had a quick postoperative recovery, and there were no complications. The advantages of the contrast-enhanced DynaCT-guided technique include a single precise needle pass and avoidance of vessel injury. Precise placement of the balloon into different aspects of the FO can target trigeminal branches more selectively and allow for a better outcome.

31. Pituitary Adenomas: Classification, Clinical Evaluation and Management

Abstract

Pituitary adenomas are one of the most common brain tumors. They represent approximately 18% of all intracranial, and around 95% of sellar neoplasms. In recent years, our understanding of the pathophysiology and the behavior of these lesions has led to better control and higher curative rates. The treatment decision is largely dependent on type of the adenoma, clinical presentation, and the size of the lesion. In addition, incidental pituitary lesions add uncertainty in the decision-making process, especially for pituitary adenomas that can be medically managed. When surgery is indicated, the endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal approach is the technique of choice, but open standard craniotomy approaches can also be the option in selected cases. The following chapter will review the classification, clinical presentation, pathophysiology, diagnostic work-up, selection of surgical approach, and treatment complications in pituitary adenomas.

32. Modelling the Effect of Copper on the Growth Rate of Enterobacter sp. strain Neni-13 on SDS

Abstract

The introduction of tiny amounts of heavy metals into the environment can encourage the growth of a wide variety of microorganisms. The concentration at which enhanced microbial activity is seen, on the other hand, results in a significant decrease in growth rate as well as an increase in lag time (due to the higher lag time). An established link exists between heavy metal toxicity in microorganisms and the process of bioremediation, which has been well-documented. Because heavy metals have an impact on bioremediation, they must be researched, and appropriate countermeasures must be implemented. Copper reduced the growth of the SDS-degrading bacteria Enterobacter sp. strain Neni-13 to a significant extent. Under varying doses of mercury, the SDS-degrading bacteria exhibited a sigmoidal pattern with time periods ranging from 7 to 10 hours. Gompertz's model was used to calculate the growth rates of copper in different concentrations. As the copper concentration rose, the growth of bacteria was suppressed with a concentration of 1.0 g/L, with virtually total stoppage of bacterial development. From the Gompertz model, we got the estimates of growth rates; after which, they were estimated according to the Han-Levenspiel, Shukor, Wang, Liu, Andrews, and Amor models. The modified Han-Levenspiel, Andrews, Liu, and Shukor models could all successfully fit the curve. Results of the statistical analysis showed that the Han-Levenspiel model was the best model based on highest adjusted correlation coefficient (adR2), the lowest values for RMSE and AICc, and values of AF and BF closest to unity. The parameters obtained from the Han-Levenspiel model were Ccrit 0.209 mg/L (95%, C.I., 0.199 to 0.219), μmax 0.209 h-1 (95% C.I., 0.199 to 0.219) and m 0.472 (95% C.I., 0.383 to 0.561. The results obtained in this study indicate the maximum tolerable copper concentration that the conditions for biodegradation should not exceed.

Abstract

Background The magnetic resonance imaging sequence used to assess optic canal invasion by tuberculum sella meningiomas (TSMs) has not been standardized. Both constructive interference in steady state (CISS) and contrast-enhanced T1-weighted volume-interpolated breath-hold examination (VIBE) sequences are frequently used. The aim of the present study was to compare the accuracy and interrater reliability of these sequences in predicting optic canal invasion by TSMs. Methods In the present retrospective study of 27 patients (54 optic canals) who had undergone endoscopic transtuberculum transplanum resection of TSMs, images from preoperative CISS and contrast-enhanced T1-weighted VIBE sequences were assessed by 5 neuroradiologists who were unaware of the operative findings. The readers evaluated the optic canal in 4 quadrants at 2 locations (the posterior tip of the anterior clinoid process and the optic strut). A quadrant was considered positive for tumor invasion if invasion was present at either of these 2 locations. The reference standard was intraoperative observation of gross optic canal invasion. Results The interrater agreement was good for the presence or absence of tumor involvement in a particular quadrant (CISS, 0.635; VIBE, 0.643; 95% confidence interval for the difference, −0.086 to 0.010). The mean sensitivity and specificity for optic nerve invasion were 0.643 and 0.438 with CISS and 0.643 and 0.454 with VIBE, respectively. No significant differences were seen between the sequences in terms of reader accuracy when the intraoperative findings were used as the reference standard. Conclusion CISS and VIBE sequences both have good accuracy in predicting for optic canal tumor invasion by TMEs.

Abstract

Street lighting is very important now-days especially at dangerous areas and highways but it consume a lot of power and it became challenging for many researchers in the past few years. Enormous efforts have been placed on the issue of reducing power consumption in illuminating cities and streets, researchers had various approaches and methods in tackling this challenging matter, till now there is no ideal system that has been developed to reduce the electricity usage. In this paper intelligent controller based on deep learning proposed to control the light at the street from sunset to sunrise, the system will decrease the light used to illuminate the streets in the absence of movements, the network trained based on deep learning with several image of different objects to help the system detecting any moving objects in the street to provide the street with the exact amount of light needed in order to reduce the waste of electrical energy resulting from street lighting and to help reduce accidents hence high percentage of criminal activity and life threatening conditions occur in the absence of light. The system was trained with a vast and diverse dataset to assure the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed system, the trained system showed a result of 90 precision of detecting moving objects, the proposed system was tested with a new dataset to assure the reliability and dependency of the system and reducing the errors to the minimum, the system shows promising results in detecting movements and objects, after the detection being complete, the system will send a pulse width modulation causing a 20 % light dimming, leading to enormous reduction in the power consumption, adding to that the proposed system is easy to use, Вуличне освітлення дуже важливе в наші дні, особливо в небезпечних районах та на автомагістралях, але воно споживає багато енергії і останні кілька років стало проблемою для багатьох дослідників. Abstract

In most instances, there exists an inaccuracy in interpretation of adsorption/reduction of substances using linear technique as it can only provide an approximate value of the measured parameter; the specific adsorption rate. This paper provides for the first-time modelling of the effect of nZVI/BC, nZVI and Biochar (BC) on the adsorption/reduction of nitrobenzene as modelled using Pseudo-1st order (PFO), Pseudo-2nd Order (PSO), Elovich and Avrami models. Pseudo-1st Order was the best model for nZVIBCg, whereas Pseudo-2nd Order was the best model for nZVI and BC on Nitrobenzene (NB) removal based on statistical dependencies that were used such as root-mean-squire error (RMSE), bias factor (BF), Akaike information criterion (AICc) and the adjusted coefficient of determination. Justifiably from the results, coupling nZVI and BC together will help in reducing more of NB than when individual compounds are used.

Although standard, the use of linearization techniques using natural logarithm transformation is erroneous and can only give an estimated value for the measured parameter; the specific growth rate. For the first time, in this paper, we present different kinetic models such as Von Bertalanffy, Baranyi-Roberts, modified Schnute, modified Richards, modified Gompertz, modified Logistics and most recent Huang were employed to obtain values for the above constants or parameters from Enterobacter sp. growth on polyethylene. Huang model was found to be the best model with the highest adjusted R2 value and lowest RMSE value. The Accuracy and Bias Factors values were close to unity (1.0). The Huang parameters such as Ymax (bacterial growth upper asymptote), λ (lag time), µmax (maximum specific bacterial growth rate) and A or Y0 (bacterial growth lower asymptote) were found to be 1.367 (95% confidence interval of 1.322 - 1.412), 2.683 (95% confidence interval of 2.030 - 3.337), 0.322 (95% confidence interval of 0.252 - 0.392) and 0.324 (95% confidence interval of 0.278 - 0.370).

43. Prediction of Cumulative Death Cases in The United States Due to COVID-19 Using Mathematical Models

In this paper, we present different growth models such as Von Bertalanffy, Baranyi-Roberts, Morgan-Mercer-Flodin (MMF), modified Richards, modified Gompertz, modified Logistics and Huang in fitting and analyzing the epidemic trend of COVID-19 in the form of total number of death cases of SARS-COV-2 in The United States as of 20th of July 2020. The MMF model was found to be the best model with the highest adjusted R2 value with the lowest RMSE value. The accuracy and bias factors values were close to unity (1.0). The parameters obtained from the MMF model include maximum growth of death rate (log) of 0.048 (95% ci from 0.047 to 0.048), curve constant (d) that affects the inflection point of 2.34 (95% ci from 2.31 to 2.38) and maximal total number of death (ymax) of 151,356 (95% ci from 147,911 to 154,525). The MMF predicted that the total number of death cases for The United States on the coming 20th of August and 20th of September 2020 will be 148,183 (95% ci of 149,199 to 147,173) and 153,780 (95% ci of 152,640 to 154,928), respectively. The predictive ability of the model utilized in this study is a powerful tool for epidemiologist to monitor and assess the severity of COVID-19 in The United States in months to come. However, as with any other model, these values need to be taken with caution due to the unpredictability of the COVID-19 situation locally and globally.

The used of linearization technique using natural logarithm transformation, though standard, is erroneous and can just give an estimated value for the sole parameter measured; the specific growth rate. in this paper, for the first time we model the effect of nZVI/Pd and SiO2-nZVI/Pd nanoparticles on the growth of P. putida in MSM medium as modelled using models such as von Bertalanffy, Baranyi-Roberts, modified Schnute, modified Richards, modified Gompertz, modified logistics and the most recent Huang. The results show that the lag phases of P. putida cell at 4 h (0.5 g L-1 of SiO2-nZVI/Pd), 7.655 h (1.0 g L-1 of SiO2-nZVI/Pd), 11.76 h (0.5 g L-1 of nZVI/Pd) and 22.03 h (1.0 g L-1 of nZVI/Pd) respectively, which were longer than that of control, indicating the nanoparticles prolonged the exponential phase of cell growth. Moreover, in comparing the maximum growth ymax, which was 1.23x109, there was a decrease in the P. putida growth, i.e 1.20x109 (0.5 g L-1 of SiO2-nZVI/Pd), 1.06x109 (1.0 g L-1 of SiO2-nZVI/Pd), 1.04x109 (0.5 g L-1 of nZVI/Pd) and 8.59x108 (1.0 g L-1 of nZVI/Pd) respectively, with more decrease in growth at the P. putida growth with nZVI/Pd than SiO2-nZVI/Pd. On the other hand, when comparing the µmax, the control has a value of 0.08 while 0.073, 0.073, 0.089 and 0.86 are values at bacterial concentration of (0.5 g L-1 of SiO2-nZVI/Pd), (1.0 g L-1 of SiO2-nZVI/Pd), (0.5 g L-1 of nZVI/Pd) and (1.0 g L-1 of nZVI/Pd) respectively, indicating the specific growth rate decreases with both 0.5 g L-1 of SiO2-nZVI/Pd and 1.0 g L-1 of SiO2-nZVI/Pd and increases with 0.5 g L-1 of nZVI/Pd and 1.0 g L-1 of nZVI/Pd. It is clear from the results that coating of SiO2 on nZVI/Pd might drastically decrease the toxicity to P. putida cells.

Abstract

This article explores a novel approach to the analysis of the external world in postclassical Ashʿarite kalām. While discussions of physical reality and its fundamental constituents in the classical period of Islamic thought turned chiefly on the opposing views of kalām atomism and Aristotelian hylomorphism, in the postclassical period kalām thinkers in the Ashʿarite tradition forge a new frame of inquiry. Beginning most earnestly with the philosophical works of Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī, a critical approach is developed addressing received views in ontology, including the relation of substance to accident, the status of Aristotelian form and matter, and part-to-whole relations. Drawing on Rāzī’s al-Mulakhkhaṣ and al-Mabāḥith, kalām thinkers develop several concepts to distinguish arbitrary or mind-dependent (iʿtibārī) composites (‘man-plus-stone’) from non-arbitrary composites (e.g., tree, paste, and house). Most notably, they adopt a substance-plus-accident ontology in opposition to the Aristotelian hylomorphism of falsafa. The mutakallimūn will conceive of composites as possessing ‘real unity’ (ḥaqīqa muttaḥida) while dispensing with the explanatory and causal role of Aristotelian substantial forms.

Abstract

298 Background: Although global incidence of gastric cancer has been decreasing over the past decades, an upward trend has been reported in younger patients and certain ethnic groups over the past few years. The reason for this epidemiological trend is not fully understood, but differences in presentation and prognosis suggest that gastric cancer in the young might represent a different clinical entity. Here, we seek to identify differences in demographic characteristics and outcomes between young adults and older patients admitted for gastric cancer. Methods: Using the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database, we identified all adult patients admitted primarily for gastric cancer from 2016 to 2019. We analyzed demographic characteristics of young adults (defined as those aged between 20 and 49-years-old) and older patients (aged 50 and above) as well as differences in in-hospital mortality, total hospital charges, and length of stay. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to adjust for confounders. Results: During the period studied, 77,720 patients were admitted with gastric cancer, of which 9,650 (12.4%) were young adults and 68,115 (87.6%) were old individuals.
