The Japanese economy has performed well in 1999, according to economic commentator Eamonn Fingleton. However, there has not been a significant economic turnaround, as Japan's economic difficulties have often been exaggerated by outside observers. Nakamae International Economic Research Pres Tadashi Nakamae feels that Japan's economic recovery is not yet firmly established because the basis for sustainable growth has not yet been laid. Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Investment Management Managing Director Barton M. Biggs forecasts that Japan will see real economic growth of around 2% in 2000, as long as the US economy does not experience difficulties.
