Assessing personality with short scales is becoming relevant in different fields of psychology. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the internal structure and reliability of three short versions of the Big Five Inventory in a sample of 500 Mexican citizens (60.8% men; Mage = 23.58). The German (BFI-15; 15 items), Peruvian (BFI-15p; 15 items), and Brazilian (BFI-20; 20 items) versions were analyzed using exploratory structural equation modeling. The Peruvian version (BFI-15p) showed a simpler factorial structure and factor loadings with acceptable magnitudes, as well as adequate reliability coefficients. Likewise, the BFI-15p was invariant between men and women, with women scoring greater Agreeableness, Neuroticism, and Openness than men. The implications of these findings and recommendations for future studies are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Literature suggests that reading fiction, more than reading nonfiction, correlates positively with the reader's social cognition, chiefly cognitive empathy. Earlier studies also indicate that individual differences, especially personality traits, are relevant predictors of reading tendencies that should be considered while studying the relationship between empathy and reading. Hence, in this study we examined whether personality traits, gender, and the students' fiction and nonfiction reading tendencies predict affective and cognitive empathy. University students (N = 429) participated in this study using the following questionnaires: The Emotional Empathy and Fantasy Scale (Raboteg-Šarić, 2002), the IPIP-50 Big-Five markers (Mlačić & Goldberg, 2007), and a newly constructed reading tendencies questionnaire. The results of multiple regression analyses indicate that Big Five Intellect and Big Five Emotional stability positively predicted nonfiction-reading tendency. Moreover, Intellect, Agreeableness, and gender (female) positively predicted fiction-reading tendency, while Extraversion was a negative predictor. Also, Intellect, Agreeableness, gender (female) and fiction-reading tendency positively predicted cognitive empathy. Agreeableness and gender (female) were positive, while Emotional stability and Extraversion were negative predictors of affective empathy.

This study aimed to investigate the modelling of structural equations of personality factors with symptoms of antisocial personality disorder mediated by Schadenfreude in women.Personality factors were considered as an exogenous variable, symptoms of antisocial personality disorder were considered as an endogenous variable, and Schadenfreude as a mediating variable. 285 female students of Tabriz University were selected using random sampling and answered Millon III, NEO-FFI questionnaires, and hypothetical scenarios of Schadenfreude that were provided to them. Data were analyzed using SPSS 24 and Amos.Evaluation of the hypothetical research model using fit indexes showed that the measured model fits. The results showed that Agreeableness with mediating of Schadenfreude with a Standardized Beta Coefficient of -0.048 had a significant effect (P

Personality is one of the central constructs of psychology, however, its extensive scales can hinder its inclusion in various studies. Therefore, the aim of this study was to verify whether the two short versions of the Big Five Inventory (BFI-15p and BFI-10p) present evidence of validity and reliability in a sample of 451 Mexican university students. (57.2% women; Mage=20.84). The BFI-15p and BFI-10p were analyzed through exploratory structural equation modeling (WLSMV estimation method and geomin rotation), and it was found that the BFI-15p presented a satisfactory fit index and a coherent internal structure, as well as significant associations with a brief measure of emotional intelligence. The construct reliability coefficients and scores were also adequate. It was concluded that the BFI-15p presents satisfactory psychometric properties for use with university students. - Abstract
Aim: Enjoying the suffering of others can occur in the form of a Schadenfreude in most people, or it can manifest itself in a more stable form: Sadistic personality traits. This study was about the structural relationships between the Big Five and Sadism through the role of Schadenfreude. Method: 364 people from the 24,000-student population of Tabriz University (169 males and 167 females) in 2020 were selected by available sampling. They answered the Milon III, NEO-FFI, and Schadenfreude Scenario Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS-24 and Amos. Results: Evaluation of the hypothetical research model using fit indices showed that the measured model fits. Conclusion: Agreeableness among the Big Five mediated by Schadenfreude has a significant effect on the symptoms of Sadism. The findings, along with supporting the hypothetical model for the symptoms of Sadistic personality traits, provide a suitable framework for the etiology of this personality disorder. The common denominator of the three factors of the present model is their social element. Agreeableness can be considered as the most social factor of Big Five that affects Schadenfreude as a social emotion and Sadism as a personality type based on the presence of others. That means people with higher Agreeableness are less likely to experience enjoying others suffering because of greater empathy. The results are useful in understanding social behaviors, especially in situations where empathy is expected but behaviors that indicate sadism or enjoyment of the suffering of others occur. This study was conducted to assess the effects of locale on the personality characteristics of the students measured in terms of big five factors personality. The sample comprised 250 rural and 250 urban students in the age range of 14 to 20 years belonging to Jaunpur U.P. (India) and studying in intermediate colleges. They were administered the Hindi version of big five factors personality scale. The descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse the data. The two groups differed significantly on all but one dimension (neuroticism). The results in general suggest that locale is an important variable which exerts differential effects on the personality of the adolescents. The results are vigorously discussed and interpreted and implications of the study are also underlined. In addition to it, limitations of the study and suggestions for future research are also highlighted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research examines the convergent-discriminant and predictive validity of the Big Five personality dimensions assessed with two different formats of personality inventories: a single-stimulus (SS) and a quasi-ipsative forced-choice (FC). The relationship between both types of measures and intelligence (GMA) was also analyzed. The results showed that: (1) the SS and the quasi-ipsative FC measures present a high convergent-discriminant validity; (2) the Big Five personality dimensions, assessed with both questionnaires, and GMA are independent constructs; and (3) both types of personality measures have similar predictive validity for the three criteria examined (academic performance, training success, and interpersonal competence). As expected, conscientiousness was the best predictor of academic performance and training success. Extraversion was the best predictor of interpersonal competence. Finally, the theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced universities to push the use of distance learning, impacting an unprecedented number of students. New norms of social distancing and lockdown had been brought in as university measures, immediately modifying student and lecturer habits, changing from the traditional classroom to e-learning platforms. However, the lack of engagement of students throughout an e-learning system is a regular concern among lecturers when creating content on a system. This study presents an applied gamification concept to e-learning focusing on improving engagement of the various types of personalities of undergraduate students in ERP courses. The gamification design was developed by implementing the pros and cons of each game element to compromise the overall performance of students. Three evaluations were conducted:1) to test whether the student has competently gained ERP knowledge; 2) web monitor to record the activity of students; 3) to evaluate the qualitative information of the game experience by interviews. According to the study, the selection of a game element based on personality traits does not necessarily improve knowledge but proves to allow better engagement in the course. In addition, our finding also provides the suggestions for designing game elements based on personality traits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Previous literature has shown that personality is one of the most important predictors of Subjective Wellbeing. However, the mechanisms through which basic personality dispositions contribute to wellbeing have scarcely been explored. Therefore, in this study we examined the mediating role of Optimism in the relationship between the Big Five personality model (both factors and facets) and Subjective Wellbeing. Additionally, we assessed whether the results varied by sex. Method: A sample of 611 Spanish adolescents completed self-report measures of BFQ, LOT-R, and SHS. We conducted structural equation modeling to test the proposed mediating models. Results: Optimism completely mediated the relationship between Extraversion and Emotional Stability factors and Subjective Wellbeing. Likewise, Optimism mediated the relationship between the personality facets Politeness, Perseverance, Emotion control, Impulse control, and Dynamism and Subjective Wellbeing. The findings were invariant by sex. Conclusions: These results provide help in identifying the possible mechanisms through which basic dispositions of personality contribute to wellbeing. These findings can be used to develop interventions that target the promotion of greater Subjective Wellbeing through Optimism, and thereby improve adolescents' adjustment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Creation of consumer value in drug retailing is influenced by the possibility of receiving advice from trusted pharmacists. In Italy, recent reforms have guaranteed lower prices and wider access to medications by authorising hypermarkets and supermarkets to dispense over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. However, the ability of such retailers to deliver value to consumers seems to be mainly determined by the extent to which they are perceived as credible health care providers and by the image they transmit to their customers. By adopting Ohanian's (1990) source credibility model and the Five Factor Model of personality (see Digman, 1990), this study attempts to evaluate the impact of the basic dimensions of credibility, as well as that of the main image traits (i.e. Big Five factors), on customers' intention to buy OTC drugs from supermarket stores. Implications for how supermarkets could modify their store image and service facilities to enhance the ability to create value for customers are also discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

One of the most critical challenges human resources management usually faces is the procedure of recruitment and selection. At the recruitment, the factor of qualification is very important. However, HR management should take into account the personality of the candidate. For example, most of the companies' profits rely on the performance of the frontline employee and their behavior toward the customer. Therefore, HR management usually uses the assessment of personality and integrity. Based on the literature, there is a correlation between personality traits and job performance. This study is a literature review analysis which contains previous studies in regard to the of Big Five Factors at the recruitment and their validity in predicting employee’s performance in the firm.

SECONDARY school students , *SOCIAL desirability , *AGREEABLENESS , *CONSCIENTIOUSNESS , *NEUROTICISM , *ACHIEVEMENT motivation - Abstract
The aim of this study was to explore the sex-related differences in the big five personality factors. A convenience sample of secondary school students in the State of Kuwait was selected (171 male; 190 female). Their ages ranged from 14 to 17 years. They responded to the Big Five Questionnaire for children. Results indicated statistically significant differences in neuroticism (males had the high mean score) and conscientiousness (females obtained the high mean score). The effect size in both factors was small. There were no statistically significant differences in extraversion, agreeableness, and openness factors. The high score of males on neuroticism than females was not congruent with previous studies. This result may be related to the differential effect of social desirability. The high mean scores of females on conscientiousness may be related to the high need for achievement among females. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
A fascinating area of dream research is the analysis of long dream series. However, research regarding differences between long-term journalists and normal persons is lacking. The present online survey (N = 2,492) focused on the relationship between the Big Five personality dimensions and frequency of recording dreams. As expected, dream recall frequency, nightmare frequency, and attitude towards dreams were related to the frequency of recording dreams. Unexpectedly, conscientiousness was negatively related to recording dreams—a finding that warrants further research. Similarly, the effects of education and agreeableness on recording dreams are not yet understood. Given those interindividual differences, one should be cautious in generalizing findings obtained from long dream series. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The aim of the study was to evaluate if the academic self-efficacy single-item (IUAA) has convergent validity by its relationship with the Big Five personality traits (5BF) in 450 university students (61.1% female; Mage=20.9; SDage=2.6) from a private college in Chiclayo (Peru). Besides the IUAA, we used the Big Five Inventory-15p (BFI-Sp) to assess the 5BF with 15 items (three items per factor). The research hypothesis was tested using a one-way ANOVA, with students' grouping according to their IUAA response. The results show conscientiousness as the trait with higher differences between groups, followed by openness and extraversion. Additionally, the groups do not differ substantially in agreeableness or neuroticism. Despite the limitations, the IUAA is an appropriate measure to assess academic self-efficacy in college students. - Abstract
A vonás érzelmi intelligencia azután is szignifikáns hányadot magyaráz az SWLS pontszámok varianciájából miután kontrolláljuk a Big Five faktorokat (korrigált R2 = 0,231; F(7, 413) = 21,016; p < 0,001). Ezzel ellentétes módon a vizsgált képességalapú érzelmi intelligencia-mutatók függetlennek bizonyultak mind a személyiségtől, mind pedig az élettel való elégedettség szintjétől. Következtetések: Az eredményeink egybecsengnek azokkal a korábbi kutatásokkal, amelyek igazolták, hogy a Big Five faktorok fontos szerepet játszanak az élettel való elégedettségben, illetve demonstrálták, hogy a vonás jellegű érzelmi intelligencia kapcsolatban áll a szubjektív jólléttel. - Abstract
It is widely believed that human personality and human-preferred locations are closely related. In this paper, a statistical study to determine the relationship between personality and preferred location, quantitatively, was conducted. Human personality can be represented through the big five factor (BFF) model. Human-preferred locations have been determined from a positioning dataset collected by the smartphones and other mobile devices of volunteers. The positioning dataset can be analyzed and clustered into preferred location datasets. Such analysis is composed of two phases. The first phase estimates a human personality from the dataset of human-preferred locations. The second phase shows the effect of human personality on the selection of preferred locations. In each phase, the location and personality data are preprocessed, trained using a back propagation network (BPN), and then validated and studied through a regression analysis. Location clustering, BPN training, and a regression analysis are the major methods used. The results of this paper demonstrate the relationship between personality and preferred location, which can be presented quantitatively. In particular, the estimation of human personality based on favored locations is the key to our research. For example, preference for a home location is highly related with extraversion, and rarely related with conscientiousness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Lucid dreaming frequency varies strongly among individuals and, thus, research has focused on identifying what factors affect this phenomenon. The present study, an online survey (N = 2,492), focused on the relationship between the Big Five personality dimensions and lucid dreaming frequency. Additionally, the personality correlates of the age of the first lucid dream were investigated. In our sample, a small but substantial portion of individual differences concerning lucid dreaming frequency was explained by the Big Five personality factors. Openness to experiences correlated positively with lucid dreaming frequency, whereas the correlation was negative for agreeableness. The relationship between neuroticism and lucid dreaming frequency disappeared when nightmare frequency was controlled. Future researchers should examine the relationship of the Big Five factors with the attitudes toward and the contents of lucid dreams. Moreover, longitudinal studies should investigate the lucid dream socialization of children and the effect of age on the course of interest in lucid dreaming. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Approximately one million people commit suicides every year in world and adolescents constitute the most vulnerable group (WHO, 2012). There may be many risk factors including personality for suicidal ideation and acts. In view of the above, this study was conducted to examine the effects of big five factors of personality on suicidal ideation. 315 adolescents enrolled in some of the Intermediate colleges of Jaunpur (U.P.), aging between 14 to 19 years with mean age of 16.36 years constituted the sample. Hindi version of Big Five personality scale (Singh, 2013) was administered to assess their personality in term of extraversion, neuroticism, agreeableness, open to experience and conscientiousness. Its reliability ranges from.78 to.88 and validity from.79 to 89. TS-Suicidal Ideation Scale (Singh and Thakur, 2004) was used to ascertain the suicidal tendency among them. Its reliability by odd-even method is 0.78 and by spilt-half method is 0.82 while the validity is 0.78. The analyses of the data revealed that adolescents with higher level of extraversion, agreeableness, open to experience and conscientiousness are significantly less indulged in suicidal ideation in comparison to the adolescents scoring low on the above dimensions The low level on the above factors indicates high risks for suicidal ideation. The higher level of neuroticism was found to be a major risk factor in inducing the feeling of suicidal ideation. The proposed hypothesis was approved. The findings are discussed in the light of related previous researches and implications, suggestions and limitations are also highlighted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study was designed to develop and assess construct validity of an Agreeableness scale (Escala Fatorial de Socialização – EFS) in the Big Five model. In this model, Agreeableness is comprised by traits that describe altruism, straightforwardness, trust in people, as well as coldness, antisocial behaviors, among others. The participants were 1.100 individuals, from five States in Brazil, of both sexes, with high school or university level of education. Factor analyses were conducted to determine the EFS dimensions. A 3-factor solution was found to be more adequate. The factors found were named: Cordiality, Pro-sociability, and Trust in people. Internal consistency (Cronbach's alphas) for the factors were .91, .84, and .80 respectively, and .92 for the general scale.

EMOTIONAL intelligence ,PERSONALITY & intelligence ,EMOTIONS ,REGRESSION analysis - Abstract
The study is based on the research analyses of K.V. Petrides' (2011) trait emotional intelligence construct verified by his Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire -- TEIQue. Verification of the EI trait construct by stepwise regression analysis confirmed that it is determined only to a certain extent by the Big Five personality factors theory (14%) (by the TIPI questionnaire, Gosling, 2003) and by perception and experiencing of positive (15%) and negative (13%) mental states (by the SEHW questionnaire, Džuka & Dalbert, 2002). Thus, the emotional intelligence trait as a consistent construct partially captures individual variability of emotional aspects otherwise scattered across personality theories. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Human personality has been largely considered to be associated with a preference for location. Maybe an adequate method applied to real-world data of both human personality and location may reveal that these two have a relationship. Two types of data were collected for this study. The Big Five Factors representing the human personality were collected by performing a Big Five Inventory of the participants of this study, and the participants' positioning data was collected by using portable positioning devices, such as GPS receivers and/or Smartphones. The positioning data can be translated into human mobility, which indicates the preference for different locations as well as the mobile trajectory. A total of five volunteers provided their positioning data for a period of six months, and a back propagation network was used to analyze the personality data and the corresponding location data in order to identify patterns present in the data. A total of 16,807 data points was produced, and the relationship between the personality data and the location data was found by using regression analysis where the personality data were considered as the independent variable and the location data as the dependent variable. The results indicate a functional relationship and meaning between personality and location, as presented in this paper. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper we present the psychometric properties and initial validation of the alternative inventory measuring the Big-Five factor of International Personality Item Pool (IPIP-Revised). One of its main features is that the scores obtained are free from acquiescence bias. The IPIP-Revised has a simple five-factor structure, satisfactory reliability indices (internal consistency and temporal stability), evidence of concurrent validity with the NEO-FFI scales, gender and age differences between groups, and predictive validity of the frequencies of several categories of specific activities. Results suggest that IPIP-Revised is a valid option to measure personality traits in our population, and that it could be useful as an auxiliary tool in psychological assessment. - Abstract
Purpose – The purpose of this study is to create and manage halal brands as valuable business assets based on a proposed halal Brand Personality dimension in the micro-spectrum of halalan (lawful) Tayyiba (good) concept in Malaysia. The chances of using Brand personality attributes as a mechanism to get the primary dimensions of halal branding attributes are high. Design/methodology/approach – Methods of interviews and surveys were conducted based on personality traits to construct key dimensions and attributes of the halal Brand Personality. A structured interview with seven halal certification experts from The Malaysian Department of Islamic Development (Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia – JAKIM) and factor analysis method were based on non-probability, basic sampling using questionnaire surveys on 135 personnel from the Department of Islamic Affairs, Terengganu (Jabatan Hal Ehwal Agama Islam Terengganu, Malaysia – JHEAT) that were involved directly or indirectly in monitoring halal certification. Findings – The author aims to cultivate a theoretical framework for the halal Brand Personality. The paper introduces five dimensions, namely, Purity, Excitement, Safety, Sophistication and Righteousness. Originality/value – The extraction of the five factors that contribute to the halal Brand Personality has been considered to be an assurance and screening process for halal products and services. It embodies values that are not just for Muslims but for everyone. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: In the study of enterprising personality, there are two main approaches, the utilization of general personality traits, such as Big Five, and the use of more specific traits. The aim of the present work is to develop and validate a new measurement instrument that will permit a rigorous assessment of the basic traits of enterprising personality in young people. Method: A sample of 2,693 students (51% males) from different regions in northern Spain was used. Mean age was 16.52 years (SD = 1.38), with an age range of 16 to 23. Eight principal dimensions of enterprising personality were identified, and a new battery of tests was developed for their assessment. Results: The reliability coefficients of the battery scales were over .80. Common variance among the eight specific personality dimensions and the Big Five factors was 24%, and with three emotional intelligence dimensions, it was 16%. The enterprising personality traits show a very low correlation with socio-economic status (r = .126), and a moderate correlation with estimations of entrepreneurial spirit by teachers (r = .385). Conclusions: Eight specific dimensions of enterprising personality in youth have been identified, and a new battery for their assessment, with adequate psychometric properties, was developed. Despite the wide use of personality in understanding human behavior, there is a lack of empirical research relating the commonly agreed personality measurement with travel personality or travel related activities. In filling the knowledge gap, this study aims at exploring the relationship between the Big Five Factors (BFF) of personality and travel personality. Using self-administered questionnaire to Korean domestic tourists, a data set of 360 was obtained that was subjected to one way ANOVA. Out of 60 possible relationships between the BFF and 12 travel personalities, 20 significantly indicated group difference with respect to the BFF. Openness to experience and extraversion factors among the BFF serve in differentiating 6 and 5 travel personalities respectively while conscientiousness and agreeableness explain respectively 4 and 3 differences in travel personalities. Neuroticism among the BFF explained only 2 group differences in travel personalities. Theoretically, the study affirms the application of personality theory in explaining human behavior. The study results shed light on how tourism professionals can use the BFF in marketing and designing their tourism products in enticing and satisfying different tourists having different travel personalities as well as different BFF of personality. This study aimed at relating tourists' Internet search behaviors and the Big Five Factors (BFF) of personality to identify personality items that better predict tourists' Internet search behaviors. Survey data from domestic tourists to a metropolitan city in South Korea was used to empirically examine the relationships. Results indicate that travel information sought through the Internet vary with the BFF with the exception of extraversion, and the Internet channels used for travel information search also varied with the BFF with the exception of conscientiousness. The Internet is more widely used as a source of travel information but less for travel purchases. The results also suggest that the responses to some BFF items can substantially improve the predictability of tourists' Internet search behaviors. Implications for the use of the BFF in designing travel information systems are addressed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

International audience; ObjectiveOur primary objective was to validate the French version of the BFI-10, an ultra-short ten-item version of the Big Five Inventory (BFI; John et al., 1991), which allows for a reasonably accurate assessment of personality in circumstances in which more in-depth assessment is not possible. In order to reach a thorough evaluation of the external validity, we also aimed to examine the bandwidth of the BFI-10 scales with reference to the study by De Young, Quilty and Peterson (2007) who distinguished between two aspects in each of the Big Five: Assertiveness and Enthusiasm for Extraversion; Compassion and Politeness for Agreeability; Orderliness and Productiveness for Conscientiousness; Withdrawal and Volatility for Negative Emotionality, and finally Openness to Aesthetics and Openness to Ideas for Open-Mindedness. Our concern with regard to bandwidth was to examine whether the BFI-10 scales have strong enough correlations with both aspects of each domain.MethodsParticipants. Data from four samples were analysed: Sample 1 comprised 2499 undergraduate students (1654 women) who completed the full BFI in university classes; Sample 2 comprised 13,306 participants (8471 women) who filled out the BFI-10 ten items online via Internet; Sample 3 comprised 143 undergraduate students (115 women) who completed the full BFI twice with a two-week interval; Sample 4 comprised 360 undergraduate students (183 women) who filled out the BFI and NEO PI-R. Instruments. The French version of the Big Five Inventory is a 45-item inventory, which measures the five broader domains of personality. The ultrashort Ten-item Big Five Inventory (BFI-10) was developed simultaneously in German and English by Rammstedt and John (2007); it comprises five two-item scales measuring the big five domains. The Neuroticism-Extraversion-Openness Personality Inventory Revised (NEO PI-R; Costa et McCrae, 1992) is a 240-item questionnaire which assesses the big five domains and 30 lower-order facets, i.e. six facets per domain. Statistical analyses. Factor structure and reliability of the five two-item scales were first investigated on samples 1 and 3. Confirmatory factor analyses (CFAs) were conducted on samples 1 and 2, and discriminant validity was assessed via comparison with the NEO PI-R (sample 4). In order to examine the bandwidth of the BFI-10 two-item scales, we studied their correlation not only with the NEO PI-R domains but also with the 30 facets.ResultsThe CFAs showed the good fit of the five-factor structure, with RMSEA = .077 (.072), CFI = .974 (.956), and SRMR = .029 (.027) in samples 1 and 2 respectively. Multigroup CFA conducted in groups 1 and 2 showed invariance across gender of factor loadings and item intercepts. Test-retest reliability was satisfactory with rs ranging from .68 (Open-Mindedness) to .86 (Extraversion and Negative Emotionality). The comparison of the two-item scales with the NEO PI-R scales showed high correlations not only with the NEO domain scales, but also with several facets: Four BFI-10 two-item scales (Extraversion, Conscientiousness, Negative Emotionality, and Open-Mindedness) were highly correlated with at least three of the six NEO facet scales in each domain. For Agreeableness, the magnitude of correlations was smaller, but the pattern of correlations was the same. All BFI-10 scales had at least moderate correlations with both aspects of each domain, with the exception of Negative Emotionality, which measured the NEO Withdrawal aspect better than Volatility.ConclusionThe French version of the BFI-10 demonstrated the expected five-factor structure, satisfactory reliability, and broad bandwidth. It could be a valuable tool for the assessment of personality in circumstances in which it is not possible to use a longer and more in-depth instrument, especially when personality is not the main focus of research but one of the variables to be controlled.; L’objectif de cette étude est de valider une adaptation française de la forme très courte du Big Five Inventory (BFI) qui comporte 10 items (BFI-10).

The objective of this study was to assess the possibility of varying personality variables (such as some of the Big Five factors, or hardiness) through the application of a stress doping therapy. Twenty-six people participated from universities with high perceived stress, divided into two groups (treatment group and control group). The assessment instruments selected were classified into two groups: psychological and emotional variables and personality variables. The results showed that after the program, the experimental group showed a decline in scores of stress, psychopathology and worries. On the other hand, personality variables, interaction was found in the variables moment x group, optimism, extraversion factor and accountability, corresponding to the model of the Big Five factors showed increased scores on these variables. However, these changes were not in the control group. The hardy personality scores did not change in either group. This study tests the modulation of certain factors of personality through cognitive-behavioral therapy for stress management, after which beneficial effects are obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work presents the construction and conveyance of validity evidence of an emotional instability measurement instrument to be used in the public safety sector. For this purpose, two studies were performed with subjected public safety professionals of the State of Rio de Janeiro. The first study presented valid evidence based on content. In the second study, the analysis of the internal structure appointed the existence of one factor and four facets, respectively named emotional instability, depression, anxiety, emotional control and irritability. The consistency analysis, using the Cronbach's alpha coefficient, has shown evidence of good accuracy rates. The convergence evaluation, performed with the EFN (Factorial Neuroticism Scale), has allowed observation of strong correlations between the general factors of both scales. Such information provides valid evidence for the new scale, and opens new research paths which focus on psychological interface with public safety [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite its comprehensiveness, the Big Five model of personality does not adequately assess socially malevolent traits. Its ability to predict certain criteria related to materialism and unethical behavior, for example, may be curtailed. In the present study, several supernumerary traits known to fall outside the Big Five factor space were posited to provide incremental validity in predicting such criterion outcomes. Using self- and informant-reports, we found that supernumerary traits such as seductiveness, (low) thriftiness, and (low) integrity explained variance in relevant criteria not explained by the Big Five factors. These associations persisted even when the criterion variables were assessed 6 months later. Our data support the call to routinely consider variables beyond the traditional Big Five personality factors in order to optimize the prediction and understanding of human behavior.
