Abstract: The ESO public survey VISTA Variables in the V\'ia L\'actea (VVV) surveyed the inner Galactic bulge and the adjacent southern Galactic disk from $2009-2015$. Upon its conclusion, the complementary VVV eXtended (VVVX) survey has expanded both the temporal as well as spatial coverage of the original VVV area, widening it from $562$ to $1700$ sq. deg., as well as providing additional epochs in $JHK_{\rm s}$ filters from $2016-2023$. With the completion of VVVX observations during the first semester of 2023, we present here the observing strategy, a description of data quality and access, and the legacy of VVVX. VVVX took $\sim 2000$ hours, covering about 4% of the sky in the bulge and southern disk. VVVX covered most of the gaps left between the VVV and the VISTA Hemisphere Survey (VHS) areas and extended the VVV time baseline in the obscured regions affected by high extinction and hence hidden from optical observations. VVVX provides a deep $JHK_{\rm s}$ catalogue of $\gtrsim 1.5\times10^9$ point sources, as well as a $K_{\rm s}$ band catalogue of $\sim 10^7$ variable sources. Within the existing VVV area, we produced a $5D$ map of the surveyed region by combining positions, distances, and proper motions of well-understood distance indicators such as red clump stars, RR Lyrae, and Cepheid variables. In March 2023 we successfully finished the VVVX survey observations that started in 2016, an accomplishment for ESO Paranal Observatory upon 4200 hours of observations for VVV+VVVX. The VVV+VVVX catalogues complement those from the Gaia mission at low Galactic latitudes and provide spectroscopic targets for the forthcoming ESO high-multiplex spectrographs MOONS and 4MOST., Comment: 17 pages, 11 figures (+ appendix). Abstract: A fraction of the extreme horizontal branch stars of globular clusters exhibit a periodic light variability that has been attributed to rotational modulation caused by surface spots. These spots are believed to be connected to inhomogeneous surface distribution of elements. However, the presence of such spots has not been tested against spectroscopic data. We analyzed the phase-resolved ESO X-shooter spectroscopy of three extreme horizontal branch stars that are members of the globular cluster $\omega$ Cen and also display periodic light variations. The aim of our study is to understand the nature of the light variability of these stars and to test whether the spots can reproduce the observed variability. Our spectroscopic analysis of these stars did not detect any phase-locked abundance variations that are able to reproduce the light variability. Instead, we revealed the phase variability of effective temperature and surface gravity. In particular, the stars show the highest temperature around the light maximum. This points to pulsations as a possible cause of the observed spectroscopic and photometric variations. However, such an interpretation is in a strong conflict with Ritter's law, which relates the pulsational period to the mean stellar density. The location of the $\omega$ Cen variable extreme horizontal branch stars in HR diagram corresponds to an extension of PG 1716 stars toward lower temperatures or blue, low-gravity, large-amplitude pulsators toward lower luminosities, albeit with much longer periods. Other models of light variability, namely, related to temperature spots, should also be tested further. Abstract: This study presents the results concerning six red giant stars members of the globular cluster NGC 6558. Our analysis utilized high-resolution near-infrared spectra obtained through the CAPOS initiative (the APOgee Survey of Clusters in the Galactic Bulge), which focuses on surveying clusters within the Galactic Bulge, as a component of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment II survey (APOGEE-2). We employ the BACCHUS (Brussels Automatic Code for Characterizing High accUracy Spectra) code to provide line-by-line elemental-abundances for Fe-peak (Fe, Ni), $\alpha$-(O, Mg, Si, Ca, Ti), light-(C, N), odd-Z (Al), and the $s$-process element (Ce) for the 4 stars with high signal-to-noise ratios. This is the first reliable measure of the CNO abundances for NGC 6558. Our analysis yields a mean metallicity for NGC 6558 of $\langle$[Fe/H]$\rangle$ = $-$1.15 $\pm$ 0.08, with no evidence for a metallicity spread. We find a Solar Ni abundance, $\langle$[Ni/Fe]$\rangle$ $\sim$ $+$0.01, and a moderate enhancement of $\alpha$-elements, ranging between $+$0.16 to $<+$0.42, and a slight enhancement of the $s$-process element $\langle$[Ce/Fe]$\rangle$ $\sim$ $+$0.19. We also found low levels of $\langle$[Al/Fe]$\rangle \sim $+$0.09$, but with a strong enrichment of nitrogen, [N/Fe]$>+$0.99, along with a low level of carbon, [C/Fe]$<-$0.12. This behaviour of Nitrogen-Carbon is a typical chemical signature for the presence of multiple stellar populations in virtually all GCs; this is the first time that it is reported in NGC 6558. We also observed a remarkable consistency in the behaviour of all the chemical species compared to the other CAPOS bulge GCs of the same metallicity., Comment: To appear in MNRAS. Abstract: E-learning approaches have emerged as a prominent method in educational institutions in Malaysia since the Covid-19 outbreak. Moreover, rapid growth in educational technologies with new software and high-end hardware has provided better accessibility for e-learning. To ensure efficient and conducive e-learning environment, the factors and sub-factors that leads towards e-learning success must be recognized and identified. Therefore, this research aims to rank the important factors and sub-factors influencing the success of e-learning in Mathematics from lecturers’ perspectives. Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) is used in analyzing the data collected. The result of this study shows that among the four chosen success factors, Quality of Infrastructure and System is the most important factor (0.3876), followed by Characteristics of Students towards e-learning (0.2428), Quality of Design and Courses (0.1942) and lastly Characteristics of Lecturers Towards e-learning (0.1753). The top four out of 12 e-learning success sub-factors are Design and User Interface System (0.1447), Students’ Attitude Towards e-learning (0.1232), Understanding the Use of Infrastructure (0.1218) and Level of Product Reliability (0.1211). This finding may help to improve the effectiveness of e-learning process to not only for schools and universities but also for corporate and business sectors especially in global training programs. For future studies, students’ perspective towards e-learning success in Mathematics and other subjects should be further studied in order to have a complete view of success factors.

11. Ca Triplet Metallicities and Velocities for twelve Globular Clusters towards the Galactic Bulge

Abstract: Globular clusters (GCs) are excellent tracers of the formation and early evolution of the Milky Way. The bulge GCs (BGCs) are particularly important because they can reveal vital information about the oldest, in-situ component of the Milky Way. We aim at deriving mean metallicities and radial velocities for 13 GCs that lie towards the bulge and are generally associated with this component. We use near infrared low resolution spectroscopy with the FORS2 instrument on the VLT to measure the wavelengths and equivalent widths of the CaII triplet (CaT) lines for a number of stars per cluster. We derive radial velocities, ascertain membership and apply known calibrations to determine metallicities for cluster members, for a mean of 11 members per cluster. We derive mean cluster RV values to 3 km/s, and mean metallicities to 0.05 dex. Our sample has metallicities lying between -0.21 and -1.64 and is distributed between the traditional metal-rich BGC peak near [Fe/H] aprox. -0.5 and a more metal-poor peak around [Fe/H] aprox. -1.1, which has recently been identified. These latter are candidates for the oldest GCs in the Galaxy, if blue horizontal branches are present, and include BH 261, NGC 6401, NGC 6540, NGC 6642, and Terzan 9. Finally, Terzan 10 is even more metal-poor. However, dynamically, Terzan 10 is likely an intruder from the halo, possibly associated with the Gaia-Enceladus or Kraken accretion events. Terzan 10 is also confirmed as an Oosterhotype II GC based on our results. The lone halo intruder in our sample, Terzan 10, is conspicuous for also having by far the lowest metallicity, and casts doubt on the possibility of any bonafide BGCs at metallicities below about aprox. -1.5., Comment: 13 pages, 10 figures. Abstract: Background: COVID-19 is primarily known as a respiratory illness; however, many patients present to hospital without respiratory symptoms. The association between non-respiratory presentations of COVID-19 and outcomes remains unclear. We investigated risk factors and clinical outcomes in patients with no respiratory symptoms (NRS) and respiratory symptoms (RS) at hospital admission. Methods: This study describes clinical features, physiological parameters, and outcomes of hospitalised COVID-19 patients, stratified by the presence or absence of respiratory symptoms at hospital admission. RS patients had one or more of: cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny nose or wheezing; while NRS patients did not. Results: Of 178,640 patients in the study, 86.4 % presented with RS, while 13.6 % had NRS. NRS patients were older (median age: NRS: 74 vs RS: 65) and less likely to be admitted to the ICU (NRS: 36.7 % vs RS: 37.5 %). NRS patients had a higher crude in-hospital case-fatality ratio (NRS 41.1 % vs. RS 32.0 %), but a lower risk of death after adjusting for confounders (HR 0.88 [0.83–0.93]). Conclusion: Approximately one in seven COVID-19 patients presented at hospital admission without respiratory symptoms. These patients were older, had lower ICU admission rates, and had a lower risk of in-hospital mortality after adjusting for confounders.

Abstract: The APOGEE Open Cluster Chemical Abundances and Mapping (OCCAM) survey is used to probe the chemical evolution of the s-process element cerium in the Galactic disk. Cerium abundances were derived from measurements of Ce II lines in the APOGEE spectra using the Brussels Automatic Code for Characterizing High Accuracy Spectra (BACCHUS) in 218 stars belonging to 42 open clusters. Our results indicate that, in general, for Ages $<$ 4 Gyr, younger open clusters have higher [Ce/Fe] and [Ce/$\alpha$-element] ratios than older clusters. In addition, metallicity segregates open clusters in the [Ce/X]-Age plane (where X can be H, Fe, and the $\alpha$-elements O, Mg, Si, or Ca). These metallicity-dependant relations result in [Ce/Fe] and [Ce/$\alpha$] ratios with age that are not universal clocks. Radial gradients of [Ce/H] and [Ce/Fe] ratios in open clusters, binned by age, were derived for the first time, with d[Ce/H]dR$_{GC}$ being negative, while d[Ce/Fe]/dR$_{GC}$ is positive. [Ce/H] and [Ce/Fe] gradients are approximately constant over time, with the [Ce/Fe] gradient becoming slightly steeper, changing by $\sim$+0.009 dex-kpc$^{-1}$-Gyr$^{-1}$. Both the [Ce/H] and [Ce/Fe] gradients are shifted to lower values of [Ce/H] and [Ce/Fe] for older open clusters. The chemical pattern of Ce in open clusters across the Galactic disk is discussed within the context of s-process yields from AGB stars, $\sim$Gyr time delays in Ce enrichment of the interstellar medium, and the strong dependence of Ce nucleosynthesis on the metallicity of its AGB stellar sources., Comment: 20 pages, 10 figures, Accepted to ApJ

Abstract: This paper documents the seventeenth data release (DR17) from the Sloan Digital Sky Surveys; the fifth and final release from the fourth phase (SDSS-IV). DR17 contains the complete release of the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey, which reached its goal of surveying over 10,000 nearby galaxies. The complete release of the MaNGA Stellar Library (MaStar) accompanies this data, providing observations of almost 30,000 stars through the MaNGA instrument during bright time. DR17 also contains the complete release of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment 2 (APOGEE-2) survey which publicly releases infra-red spectra of over 650,000 stars. The main sample from the Extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS), as well as the sub-survey Time Domain Spectroscopic Survey (TDSS) data were fully released in DR16. New single-fiber optical spectroscopy released in DR17 is from the SPectroscipic IDentification of ERosita Survey (SPIDERS) sub-survey and the eBOSS-RM program. Along with the primary data sets, DR17 includes 25 new or updated Value Added Catalogs (VACs). This paper concludes the release of SDSS-IV survey data. SDSS continues into its fifth phase with observations already underway for the Milky Way Mapper (MWM), Local Volume Mapper (LVM) and Black Hole Mapper (BHM) surveys., Comment: 40 pages, 8 figures, 6 tables. 16. CAPOS: The bulge Cluster APOgee Survey III. Spectroscopic Tomography of Tonantzintla 2

Abstract: (ABRIDGED) We have performed the first detailed spectral analysis of red giant members of the relatively high-metallicity globular cluster (GC) Tononzintla~2 (Ton~2) using high-resolution near-infrared spectra collected with the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment II survey (APOGEE-2), obtained as part of the bulge Cluster APOgee Survey. We investigate chemical abundances for a variety of species including the light-, odd-Z, $\alpha$-, Fe-peak, and neutron-capture elements from high S/N spectra of seven giant members. The derived mean cluster metallicity is [Fe/H]$=-0.70\pm0.05$, with no evidence for an intrinsic metallicity spread. Ton~2 exhibits a typical $\alpha$-enrichment that follows the trend for high-metallicity Galactic GCs, similar to that seen in 47~Tucanae and NGC~6380. We find a significant nitrogen spread ($>0.87$ dex), and a large fraction of nitrogen-enriched stars that populate the cluster. Given the relatively high-metallicity of Ton~2, these nitrogen-enriched stars are well above the typical Galactic levels, indicating the prevalence of the multiple-population phenomenon in this cluster which also contains several stars with typical low, first-generation N abundances. We also identify the presence of [Ce/Fe] abundance spread in Ton~2, which is correlated with the nitrogen enhancement, indicating that the \textit{s}-process enrichment in this cluster has been produced likely by relatively low-mass Asymptotic Giant Branch stars. Furthermore, we find a mean radial velocity of the cluster, $-178.6\pm0.86$ km s$^{-1}$ with a small velocity dispersion, 2.99$\pm$0.61 km s$^{-1}$, which is typical of a GC. Abstract: We report the discovery of a new, chemically distinct population of relatively high-metallicity ([Fe/H] $> -0.7$) red giant stars with super-solar [N/Fe] ($\gtrsim +0.75$) identified within the bulge, disk, and halo of the Milky Way. This sample of stars was observed during the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2); the spectra of these stars are part of the seventeenth Data Release (DR 17) of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We hypothesize that this newly identified population was formed in a variety of progenitors, and are likely made up of either fully or partially destroyed metal-rich globular clusters, which we refer to as Globular Cluster Debris (GCD), identified by their unusual photospheric nitrogen abundances. 18. APOGEE-2S Discovery of Light- and Heavy-Element Abundance Correlations in the Bulge Globular Cluster NGC 6380

Abstract: We derive abundance ratios for nine stars in the relatively high-metallicity bulge globular cluster NGC 6380. We find a mean cluster metallicity between [Fe/H]$= -0.80$ and $-0.73$, with no clear evidence for a variation in iron abundances beyond the observational errors. Stars with strongly enhanced in [N/Fe] abundance ratios populate the cluster, and are anti-correlated with [C/Fe], trends that are considered a signal of the multiple-population phenomenon in this cluster. We detect an apparent intrinsic star-to-star spread ($\gtrsim 0.27$ dex) in the slow neutron-capture process element (s-element) Ce II. Moreover, the [Ce/Fe] abundance ratio exhibits a likely correlation with [N/Fe], and a somewhat weaker correlation with [Al/Fe]. If confirmed, NGC 6380 could be the first high-metallicity globular cluster where a N-Ce correlation is detected. Furthermore, this correlation suggests that Ce may also be an element involved in the multiple-population phenomenon. Currently, a consensus interpretation for the origin of the this apparent N-Ce correlation in high-metallicity clusters is lacking. We tentatively suggest that it could be reproduced by different channels - low-mass asymptotic giant-branch stars in the high-metallicity regime or fast-rotating massive stars ("spinstars"), due to the rotational mixing. It may also be the cumulative effect of several pollution events including the occurrence of peculiar stars. Abstract: This paper documents the seventeenth data release (DR17) from the Sloan Digital Sky Surveys; the fifth and final release from the fourth phase (SDSS-IV). DR17 contains the complete release of the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey, which reached its goal of surveying over 10,000 nearby galaxies. The complete release of the MaNGA Stellar Library accompanies this data, providing observations of almost 30,000 stars through the MaNGA instrument during bright time. DR17 also contains the complete release of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment 2 survey that publicly releases infrared spectra of over 650,000 stars. The main sample from the Extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS), as well as the subsurvey Time Domain Spectroscopic Survey data were fully released in DR16. New single-fiber optical spectroscopy released in DR17 is from the SPectroscipic IDentification of ERosita Survey subsurvey and the eBOSS-RM program. Along with the primary data sets, DR17 includes 25 new or updated value-added catalogs. This paper concludes the release of SDSS-IV survey data. SDSS continues into its fifth phase with observations already underway for the Milky Way Mapper, Local Volume Mapper, and Black Hole Mapper surveys.

21. High-resolution extinction map in the direction of the strongly obscured bulge fossil fragment Liller 1

Abstract: We used optical images acquired with the Wide Field Camera of the Advanced Camera for Surveys onboard the Hubble Space Telescope and near-infrared data from GeMS/GSAOI to construct a high-resolution extinction map in the direction of the bulge stellar system Liller 1. In spite of its appearance of a globular cluster, Liller 1 has been recently found to harbor two stellar populations with remarkably different ages, and it is the second complex stellar system with similar properties (after Terzan5) discovered in the bulge, thus defining a new class of objects: the Bulge Fossil Fragments. Because of its location in the inner bulge of the Milky Way, very close to the Galactic plane, Liller 1 is strongly affected by large and variable extinction. The simultaneous study of both the optical and the near-infrared color-magnitude diagrams revealed that the extinction coefficient R$_V$ in the direction of Liller 1 has a much smaller value than commonly assumed for diffuse interstellar medium (R$_V=2.5$, instead of 3.1), in agreement with previous findings along different light paths to the Galactic bulge. The derived differential reddening map has a spatial resolution ranging from $1''$ to $3''$ over a field of view of about $90''$X$90''$. Abstract: We present results from a study of fifteen red giant members of the intermediate-metallicity globular cluster (GC) FSR 1758 using high-resolution near-infrared spectra collected with the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment II survey (APOGEE-2), obtained as part of CAPOS (the bulge Cluster APOgee Survey). Since its very recent discovery as a massive GC in the bulge region, evoking the name Sequoia, this has been an intriguing object with a highly debated origin, and initially led to the suggestion of a purported progenitor dwarf galaxy of the same name. In this work, we use new spectroscopic and astrometric data to provide additional clues to the nature of FSR 1758. Our study confirms the GC nature of FSR 1758, and as such we report for the first time the existence of the characteristic N-C anti-correlation and Al-N correlation, revealing the existence of the multiple-population phenomenon, similar to that observed in virtually all GCs. Furthermore, the presence of a population with strongly enriched aluminium makes it unlikely FSR 1758 is the remnant nucleus of a dwarf galaxy, as Al-enhanced stars are uncommon in dwarf galaxies. We find that FSR 1758 is slightly more metal rich than previously reported in the literature, with a mean metallicity [Fe/H] between $-1.43$ to $-1.36$ (depending on the adopted atmospheric parameters), and with a scatter within observational error, again pointing to its GC nature. Overall, the $\alpha$-enrichment ($\gtrsim+0.3$ dex), Fe-peak (Fe, Ni), light- (C, N), and odd-Z (Al) elements follow the trend of intermediate-metallicity GCs. ... A new examination of its dynamical properties with the \texttt{GravPot16} model favors an association with the Gaia-Enceladus-Sausage accretion event. Thus, paradoxically, the cluster that gave rise to the name of the Sequoia dwarf galaxy does not appear to belong to this specific merging event., Comment: 15 pages, 8 pages, 3 Tables. Abstract: Context. Bulge globular clusters (BGCs) are exceptional tracers of the formation and chemodynamical evolution of this oldest Galactic component. However, until now, observational difficulties have prevented us from taking full advantage of these powerful Galactic archeological tools. Aims. CAPOS, the bulge Cluster APOgee Survey, addresses this key topic by observing a large number of BGCs, most of which have only been poorly studied previously. Even their most basic parameters, such as metallicity, [{\alpha}/Fe], and radial velocity, are generally very uncertain. We aim to obtain accurate mean values for these parameters, as well as abundances for a number of other elements, and explore multiple populations. In this first paper, we describe the CAPOS project and present initial results for seven BGCs. Methods. CAPOS uses the APOGEE-2S spectrograph observing in the H band to penetrate obscuring dust toward the bulge. For this initial paper, we use abundances derived from ASPCAP, the APOGEE pipeline. Results. We derive mean [Fe/H] values of $-$0.85$\pm$0.04 (Terzan 2), $-$1.40$\pm$0.05 (Terzan 4), $-$1.20$\pm$0.10 (HP 1), $-$1.40$\pm$0.07 (Terzan 9), $-$1.07$\pm$0.09 (Djorg 2), $-$1.06$\pm$0.06 (NGC 6540), and $-$1.11$\pm$0.04 (NGC 6642) from three to ten stars per cluster. We determine mean abundances for eleven other elements plus the mean [$\alpha$/Fe] and radial velocity. CAPOS clusters significantly increase the sample of well-studied Main Bulge globular clusters (GCs) and also extend them to lower metallicity. We reinforce the finding that Main Bulge and Main Disk GCs, formed in situ, have [Si/Fe] abundances slightly higher than their accreted counterparts at the same metallicity. We investigate multiple populations and find our clusters generally follow the light-element (anti)correlation trends of previous studies of GCs of similar metallicity. Abstract: Students must carefully choose their university because it will affect their motivation for studying, dedication, and engagement with the university. Normally, students will consider some factors that influence their choice of the university. Therefore, this study aims to determine the most important factor that influences students' choice of university. The study also analyses the preferable university either IPTA or IPTS. Besides, the study is conducted to rank the six variables: the influence of family, the influence of friends, the university’s image, the university’s environment, suitability with personality and interest, and financial support. The data was collected by distributing questionnaires to 30 experts which are teachers and counsellors. They are required to evaluate the issues in this study using linguistic variables ranging from "unaffected" to "very affected". The data was analysed using Fuzzy TOPSIS. The finding shows that the most influential factor in deciding the university selection is the suitability with personality and interest with a closeness coefficient of 0.4869. The influence of friends is the least important in university selection with a closeness coefficient of 0.4713. This study’s findings might benefit communities such as students, parents, and teachers. Universities may also benefit from it because they need to attract more students to expand their market.

Abstract: The second phase of the APOGEE survey is providing near-infrared, high-resolution, high signal-to-noise spectra of stars in the halo, disk, bar and bulge of the Milky Way. The near-infrared spectral window is especially important in the study of the Galactic bulge, where stars are obscured by the dust and gas of the disk in its line-of-sight. We present a chemical characterisation of the globular cluster NGC 6544 with high-resolution spectroscopy. The characterisation of the cluster chemical fingerprint, given its status of "interloper" towards the Galactic bulge and clear signatures of tidal disruption in its core is crucial for future chemical tagging efforts. Cluster members were selected from the DR16 of the APOGEE survey, using chemo-dynamical criteria of individual stars. A sample of 23 members of the cluster was selected. An analysis considering the intra-cluster abundance variations, known anticorrelations is given. According to the RGB content of the cluster, the iron content and $\alpha$-enhancement are [Fe/H] $= -1.44 \pm 0.04$ dex and [$\alpha$/Fe] $= 0.20 \pm 0.04$ dex, respectively. Cluster members show a significant spread in [Fe/H] and [Al/Fe] that is larger than expected based on measurement errors. An [Al/Fe] spread, signal of an Mg-Al anticorrelation is observed and used to constraint the cluster mass budget, along with C, N, Mg, Si, K, Ca, and Ce element variations are discussed. Abstract: Recent studies show that the inner Galactic regions host genuine bulge globular clusters, but also halo intruders, complex remnants of primordial building blocks, and objects likely accreted during major merging events. In this study we focus on the properties of M 28, a very old and massive cluster currently located in the Galactic bulge. We analysed wide-field infrared photometry collected by the VVV survey, VVV proper motions, and intermediate-resolution spectra in the calcium triplet range for 113 targets in the cluster area. Our results in general confirm previous estimates of the cluster properties available in the literature. We find no evidence of differences in metallicity between cluster stars, setting an upper limit of Delta[Fe/H]<0.08 dex to any internal inhomogeneity. We confirm that M 28 is one of the oldest objects in the Galactic bulge (13-14 Gyr). From this result and the literature data, we find evidence of a weak age-metallicity relation among bulge globular clusters that suggests formation and chemical enrichment. In addition, wide-field density maps show that M 28 is tidally stressed and that it is losing mass into the general bulge field. Our study indicates that M 28 is a genuine bulge globular cluster, but its very old age and its mass loss suggest that this cluster could be the remnant of a larger structure, possibly a primeval bulge building block., Comment: Accepted for publication in Astronomy & Astrophysics

Abstract: We have investigated the stellar and interstellar content of the distant star formation region IRAS 17591-2228 (WISE HII region GAL 007.47+0.06). It is associated to a water maser, whose parallax distance is d=20.4^{+2.8} {-2.2} kpc, supported by independent measurements of proper motion and radial velocity. It is projected in the same direction as an extremely red (J-Ks ~ 6 mag) group of stars, and a shell of mid-infrared emission. We qualify the group of stars as a cluster candidate, VVV CL177. Its radius spans between 0.45' and 1' and contains at least two young stellar objects with an extreme extinction near Av ~ 40 mag. Yet more analysis will be required to determine is it is a real single cluster associated with the water maser. Abstract: We present evidence for globular cluster stellar debris in a dwarf galaxy system (Sagittarius: Sgr) based on an analysis of high-resolution \textit{H}-band spectra from the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE) survey. We add [N/Fe], [Ti/Fe], and [Ni/Fe] abundance ratios to the existing sample of potential members of M~54; this is the first time that [N/Fe] abundances are derived for a large number of stars in M~54. Our study reveals the existence of a significant population of nitrogen- (with a large spread, $\gtrsim1$ dex) and aluminum-enriched stars with moderate Mg depletion in the core of the M~54$+$Sagittarius system, which shares the light element anomalies characteristic of second-generation globular cluster stars (GCs), thus tracing the typical phenomenon of multiple stellar populations seen in other Galactic GCs at similar metallicity, confirming earlier results based on the Na-O anti-correlation. We further show that most of the stars in M~54 exhibit different chemical - patterns evidently not present in Sgr field stars. Furthermore, we report the serendipitous discovery of a nitrogen-enhanced extra-tidal star with GC second-generation-like chemical patterns for which both chemical and kinematic evidence is commensurate with the hypothesis that the star has been ejected from M~54. Our findings support the existence of chemical anomalies associated with likely tidally shredded GCs in dwarf galaxies in the Local Group and motivate future searches for such bonafide stars along other known Milky Way streams., Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, 3 tables. Abstract: The central (`bulge') region of the Milky Way is teeming with a significant fraction of mildly metal-deficient stars with atmospheres that are strongly enriched in cyanogen ($^{12}$C$^{14}$N). Some of these objects, which are also known as nitrogen-enhanced stars, are hypothesised to be relics of the ancient assembly history of the Milky Way. Although the chemical similarity of nitrogen-enhanced stars to the unique chemical patterns observed in globular clusters has been observed, a direct connection between field stars and globular clusters has not yet been proven. In this work, we report on high-resolution, near-infrared spectroscopic observations of the bulge globular cluster NGC 6723, and the serendipitous discovery of a star, 2M18594405$-$3651518, located outside the cluster (near the tidal radius) but moving on a similar orbit, providing the first clear piece of evidence of a star that was very likely once a cluster member and has recently been ejected. Its nitrogen abundance ratio ([N/Fe]$\gtrsim + 0.94$) is well above the typical Galactic field-star levels, and it exhibits noticeable enrichment in the heavy $s$-process elements (Ce, Nd, and Yb), along with moderate carbon enrichment; all characteristics are known examples in globular clusters. Abstract: We present the first high-resolution abundance analysis of the globular cluster VVV~CL001, which resides in a region dominated by high interstellar reddening towards the Galactic Bulge. Using \textit{H}-band spectra acquired by the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE), we identified two potential members of the cluster, and estimate from their Fe I lines that the cluster has an average metallicity of [Fe/H] = $-2.45$ with an uncertainty due to systematics of 0.24 dex. We find that the light-(N), $\alpha$-(O, Mg, Si), and Odd-Z (Al) elemental abundances of the stars in VVV~CL001 follow the same trend as other Galactic metal-poor globular clusters. This makes VVV~CL001 possibly the most metal-poor globular cluster identified so far within the Sun's galactocentric distance and likely one of the most metal-deficient clusters in the Galaxy after ESO280-SC06. Applying statistical isochrone fitting, we derive self-consistent age, distance, and reddening values, yielding an estimated age of $11.9^{+3.12}_{-4.05}$ Gyr at a distance of $8.22^{+1.84}_{-1.93}$ kpc, revealing that VVV~CL001 is also an old GC in the inner Galaxy. The Galactic orbit of VVV~CL001 indicates that this cluster lies on a halo-like orbit that appears to be highly eccentric. Abstract: The formation and evolutionary processes of galaxy bulges are still unclear, and the presence of young stars in the bulge of the Milky Way is largely debated. We recently demonstrated that Terzan 5, in the Galactic bulge, is a complex stellar system hosting stars with very different ages and a striking chemical similarity to the field population. This indicates that its progenitor was likely one of the giant structures that are thought to generate bulges through coalescence. 36. The Impact of Educational Infographic on Students' Interaction and Perception in Jordanian Higher Education: Experimental Study

Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the effect of employing infographics in higher education, specifically with regard to students' interactions and their perception of the meaning of transferred information. This evaluation was presented through lectures at Applied Sciences Private University in Jordan and two other selected colleges (one scientific and the other humanistic) to compare the two variables applied in this study. To achieve this object infographic materials were developed by researcher and guided by (ASSURE) instructional model to present the lectures to the two experimental groups by infographic method through two selected courses from Information Technology College and Business College. Meanwhile, two control groups were taking the same courses in deferent class by conventional method. In addition, the total of participants was (138 students) and that includes all students of the experimental and control groups. Furthermore, a post-test questionnaire was involved to experimental groups to measure their interaction and perception after presenting lectures by infographic materials. The findings of this study show that infographics have a positive and strong impact on students' interaction and perception. Furthermore, a comparison shows that the students of the scientific and humanistic colleges had different effect of interaction. However, infographics have a similar effect on perception in both colleges.

37. Variations in the Citation Use and Perceptions in Writing the Literature Review by EFL Postgraduates

Abstract: Academically, citation is pivotal since it presents justifications for the arguments and a demonstration of the writer's position. Despite the increasing number of studies on citations, little knowledge has been reported regarding the citation use and practices of EFL students within the ESL context. Hence, the present study aimed at investigating the extent of variation in the citation practices in the literature review of PhD theses in Applied Linguistics and Information Technology. The study analysed the citations qualitatively focusing mainly on several aspects, including using types of citations, the variety of the citations based on the type of the clauses in each citation, and the perspectives of EFL Arab postgraduates on using citations. A purposeful sampling was adopted in selecting the literature review of 20 PhD theses and nine EFL Arab candidates of Applied Linguistics and Information Technology. The results show the dominance of the integral citation in the literature review of Applied Linguistics and Information technology. The inter-disciplinary comparison also reported similarity in terms of the high frequency of using citations with clauses complexes. The discourse-based interviews revealed that EFL Arab postgraduates depended on the integral citation to highlight ideas, attract the reader's attention, affirm the credibility of the cited information, and refer to the type of the information. The little available information on using citations and the possible effect of their native language may lead EFL Arab postgraduates to have their own strategies regarding citations use. Consequently, EFL postgraduate students probably need explicit instructions on the use of citations.

Abstract: Previous literature review studies have explored the implementation of social responsibility in family companies, while literature reviews that focus explicitly on the spirituality of family business in the implementation of social responsibility have not been found. The purpose of this scoping review is to map out studies that assess the spirituality of family business in the implementation of social responsibility. The scoping review of this study follows the five main stages outlined by Arkset and O'Malley (2005). The steps taken are (1) identifying research questions; (2) identify relevant studies; (3) selection of relevant studies; (4) mapping data; (5) Compile, summarize and report the results. The studies reviewed were selected from three electronic databases, namely: Emerald, Springer and Taylor & Francis within a period of 12 years from 2012-2021. The results of the scoping review show that most studies acknowledge that spirituality in family establishments is stronger. Social responsibility decisions and policies are considered as ethical decisions that involve the influence of religion and spirituality as the basis for decision making. The spiritual values that are built in family business can be the basis for the implementation of social responsibility that is oriented to the long-term goal of corporate sustainability. The theoretical implication of this research is to provide additional literature on CSR in family companies in terms of spirituality so that it can be a guide for future research. 42. VVVX-Gaia Discovery of a Low Luminosity Globular Cluster in the Milky Way Disk

Abstract: Milky Way globular clusters (MW GCs) are difficult to identify at low Galactic latitudes because of high differential extinction and heavy star crowding. The new deep near-IR images and photometry from the VISTA Variables in the Via L\'actea Extended Survey (VVVX) allow us to chart previously unexplored regions. Our long term aim is to complete the census of MW GCs. The immediate goals are to estimate the astrophysical parameters, measuring their reddenings, extinctions, distances, total luminosities, proper motions, sizes, metallicities and ages. We use the near-IR VVVX survey database, in combination with Gaia DR2 optical photometry, and with the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) photometry. We report the detection of a heretofore unknown Galactic Globular Cluster at $RA =$ 14:09:00.0; $DEC=-$65:37:12 (J2000). We calculate a reddening of $E(J-K_s)=(0.3\pm 0.03)$ mag and an extinction of $A_{K_s}=(0.15\pm 0.01)$ mag for this new GC. Its distance modulus and corresponding distance were measured as $(m-M)=(15.93\pm0.03)$ mag and $D=(15.5\pm1.0)$ kpc, respectively. We estimate the metallicity and age by comparison with known GCs and by fitting PARSEC and Dartmouth isochrones, finding $[Fe/H]=(-0.70\pm0.2)$ dex and $t=(11.0\pm1.0)$ Gyr. The mean GC PMs from Gaia are $\mu_{\alpha^\ast}=(-4.68 \pm 0.47 )$ mas $yr^{-1}$ and $\mu_{\delta}=(-1.34 \pm 0.45)$ mas $yr^{-1}$. The total luminosity of our cluster is estimated to be $M_{Ks}=(-7.76\pm 0.5)$ mag. We have found a new low-luminosity, old and metal-rich globular cluster, situated in the far side of the Galactic disk, at $R_{G}=11.2$ kpc from the Galactic centre, and at $z=1.0$ kpc below the plane. Interestingly, the location, metallicity and age of this globular cluster are coincident with the Monoceros Ring (MRi) structure.

Abstract: The presence of nitrogen-enriched stars in globular clusters provides key evidence for multiple stellar populations (MPs), as has been demonstrated with globular cluster spectroscopic data towards the bulge, disk, and halo. In this work, we employ the VVV Infrared Astrometric Catalogue (VIRAC) and the DR16 SDSS-IV release of the APOGEE survey to provide the first detailed spectroscopic study of the bulge globular cluster UKS~1. Based on these data, a sample of six selected cluster members was studied. We find the mean metallicity of UKS~1 to be [Fe/H]$=-0.98\pm0.11$, considerably more metal-poor than previously reported, and a negligible metallicity scatter, typical of that observed by APOGEE in other Galactic globular clusters. In addition, we find a mean radial velocity of $66.1\pm12.9$ km s$^{-1}$, which is in good agreement with literature values, within 1$\sigma$. By selecting stars in the VIRAC catalogue towards UKS~1, we also measure a mean proper motion of ($\mu_{\alpha}\cos(\delta)$, $\mu_{\delta}$) $=$ ($-2.77\pm0.23$,$-2.43\pm0.16$) mas yr$^{-1}$. We find strong evidence for the presence of MPs in UKS~1, since four out of the six giants analysed in this work have strong enrichment in nitrogen ([N/Fe]$\gtrsim+0.95$) accompanied by lower carbon abundances ([C/Fe]$\lesssim-0.2$). Overall, the light- (C, N), $\alpha$- (O, Mg, Si, Ca, Ti), Fe-peak (Fe, Ni), Odd-Z (Al, K), and the \textit{s}-process (Ce, Nd, Yb) elemental abundances of our member candidates are consistent with those observed in globular clusters at similar metallicity. Furthermore, the overall star-to-star abundance scatter of elements exhibiting the multiple-population phenomenon in UKS~1 is typical of that found in other global clusters (GCs), and larger than the typical errors of some [X/Fe] abundances. 44. Discovery of a large population of Nitrogen-Enhanced stars in the Magellanic Clouds

Abstract: We report the APOGEE-2S$+$ discovery of a unique collection of nitrogen-enhanced mildly metal-poor giant stars, peaking at [Fe/H]$\sim -0.89$ with no carbon enrichment, toward the Small and Large Magellanic Clouds (MCs), with abundances of light- (C, N), odd-Z (Al, K) and $\alpha-$elements (O, Mg, Si) that are typically found in Galactic globular clusters (GCs). Here we present 44 stars in the MCs that exhibit significantly enhanced [N/Fe] abundance ratios, well above ([N/Fe]$>+0.6$) typical Galactic levels at similar metallicity, and a star that is very nitrogen-enhanced ([N/Fe]$> +2.45$). Our sample consists of luminous evolved stars on the asymptotic giant branch (AGB), eight of which are classified as bonafide semi-regular (SR) variables, as well as low-luminosity stars similar to that of stars on the tip of the red giant branch of stellar clusters in the MCs. It seems likely that whatever nucleosynthetic process is responsible for these anomalous MC stars it is similar to that which caused the common stellar populations in GCs. We interpret these distinctive C-N patterns as the observational evidence of the result of tidally shredded GCs in the MCs. These findings might explain some previous conflicting results over bulge N-rich stars, and broadly help to understand GC formation and evolution. Abstract: We present stellar age distributions of the Milky Way (MW) bulge region using ages for $\sim$6,000 high-luminosity ($\log(g) < 2.0$), metal-rich ($\rm [Fe/H] \ge -0.5$) bulge stars observed by the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE). Ages are derived using {\it The Cannon} label-transfer method, trained on a sample of nearby luminous giants with precise parallaxes for which we obtain ages using a Bayesian isochrone-matching technique. We find that the metal-rich bulge is predominantly composed of old stars ($>$8 Gyr). We find evidence that the planar region of the bulge ($|Z_{\rm GC}| \le 0.25$ kpc) enriched in metallicity, $Z$, at a faster rate ($dZ/dt \sim$ 0.0034 ${\rm Gyr^{-1}}$) than regions farther from the plane ($dZ/dt \sim$ 0.0013 ${\rm Gyr^{-1}}$ at $|Z_{\rm GC}| > 1.00$ kpc). We identify a non-negligible fraction of younger stars (age $\sim$ 2--5 Gyr) at metallicities of $\rm +0.2 < [Fe/H] < +0.4$. These stars are preferentially found in the plane ($|Z_{\rm GC}| \le 0.25$ kpc) and between $R_{\rm cy} \approx 2-3$ kpc, with kinematics that are more consistent with rotation than are the kinematics of older stars at the same metallicities. We do not measure a significant age difference between stars found in and outside of the bar. These findings show that the bulge experienced an initial starburst that was more intense close to the plane than far from the plane. 46. The Milky Way's bulge star formation history as constrained from its bimodal chemical abundance distribution

Abstract: We conduct a quantitative analysis of the star formation history (SFH) of the Milky Way's bulge by exploiting the constraining power of its stellar [Fe/H] and [Mg/Fe] distribution functions. Using APOGEE data, we confirm the previously-established bimodal [Mg/Fe]--[Fe/H] distribution within 3 kpc of the inner Galaxy. Compared to that in the solar vicinity, the high-$\alpha$ population in the bulge peaks at a lower [Fe/H]. To fit these observations, we use a simple but flexible star formation framework, which assumes two distinct stages of gas accretion and star formation, and systematically evaluate a wide multi-dimensional parameter space. We find that the data favor a three-phase SFH that consists of an initial starburst, followed by a rapid star formation quenching episode and a lengthy, quiescent secular evolution phase. The metal-poor, high-$\alpha$ bulge stars ([Fe/H]<0.0 and [Mg/Fe]>0.15) are formed rapidly (<2 Gyr) during the early starburst. The density gap between the high- and low-$\alpha$ sequences is due to the quenching process. The metal-rich, low-$\alpha$ population ([Fe/H]>0.0 and [Mg/Fe]<0.15) then accumulates gradually through inefficient star formation during the secular phase. This is qualitatively consistent with the early SFH of the inner disk. Given this scenario, a notable fraction of young stars (age<5 Gyr) is expected to persist in the bulge. Combined with extragalactic observations, these results suggest that a rapid star formation quenching process is responsible for bimodal distributions in both the Milky Way's stellar populations and in the general galaxy population and thus plays a critical role in galaxy evolution., Comment: 16 pages, 12 figures. Abstract: We extend our previous work on the age-chemical abundance structure of the Galactic outer disc to the inner disc (4 < r < 8 kpc) based on the SDSS/APOGEE survey. Different from the outer disc, the inner disc stars exhibit a clear bimodal distribution in the [Mg/Fe]-[Fe/H] plane. While a number of scenarios have been proposed in the literature, it remains challenging to recover this bimodal distribution with theoretical models. To this end, we present a chemical evolution model embedding a complex multi-phase inner disc formation scenario that matches the observed bimodal [Mg/Fe]-[Fe/H] distribution. In this scenario, the formation of the inner disc is dominated by two main starburst episodes 6 Gyr apart with secular, low-level star formation activity in between. In our model, the first starburst occurs at early cosmic times (t~1 Gyr) and the second one 6 Gyr later at a cosmic time of t~7 Gyr. Both these starburst episodes are associated with gas accretion events in our model, and are quenched rapidly. The first starburst leads to the formation of the high-$\alpha$ sequence, and the second starburst leads to the formation of the metal-poor low-$\alpha$ sequence. The metal-rich low-$\alpha$ stars, instead, form during the secular evolution phase between the two bursts. Our model shows that the $\alpha$-dichotomy originates from the rapid suppression of star formation after the first starburst. The two starburst episodes are likely to be responsible for the formation of the geometric thick disc (z >1 kpc), with the old inner thick disc and the young outer thick disc forming during the first and the second starbursts, respectively., Comment: 16 pages, 10 figures. Abstract: Six decades and counting, the formation of hot ~20,000-30,000 K Extreme Horizontal Branch (EHB) stars in Galactic Globular Clusters remains one of the most elusive quests in stellar evolutionary theory. Here we report on two discoveries shattering their currently alleged stable luminosity. The first EHB variability is periodic and cannot be ascribed to binary evolution nor pulsation. Instead, we here attribute it to the presence of magnetic spots: superficial chemical inhomogeneities whose projected rotation induces the variability. The second EHB variability is aperiodic and manifests itself on time-scales of years. In two cases, the six-year light curves display superflare events a mammoth several million times more energetic than solar analogs. We advocate a scenario where the two spectacular EHB variability phenomena are different manifestations of diffuse, dynamo-generated, weak magnetic fields. Ubiquitous magnetic fields, therefore, force an admittance into the intricate matrix governing the formation of all EHBs, and traverse to their Galactic field counterparts. Abstract: We present the results from a systematic study of temporal variation of stellar activity in young late-type stars. We used multi-epoch LAMOST low-resolution spectra of over 300 member candidates in three young open clusters: Pleiades, Praesepe, and Hyades. The spectral measurements of TiO band strength near 7050 {\AA} (TiO2) and equivalent width of H{\alpha} line (EW H{\alpha} ) are used as the tracers of cool-spot coverage and chromospheric emission strength, respectively. The analysis of time-variation patterns of these two tracers suggested there exist detectable variabilities in TiO2 and EW H{\alpha} , and their time-scales are in the wide range from days to years. Results showed that more active stars, younger and fast rotators, tend to have larger activity variations. There is a tendency of anti-correlation between temporal variations in TiO2 and EW H{\alpha} . Also, appreciable anti-correlation in the rotational phase between H{\alpha} emission and K2 brightness is detected in some M dwarfs, indicating spatial co-location of the plages with cool starspots, however, cool stars do not always show such co-location features. Furthermore, spot coverage and H{\alpha} emission were evident at all rotational phases of several M dwarfs, indicating a basal level of activity, perhaps due to many small and randomly located active regions in the atmosphere., Comment: 19 pages, 15 figures

50. The stellar velocity distribution function in the Milky Way galaxy

Abstract: The stellar velocity distribution function (DF) in the solar vicinity is re-examined using data from the SDSS APOGEE survey's DR16 and \emph{Gaia} DR2. By exploiting APOGEE's ability to chemically discriminate with great reliability the thin disk, thick disk and (accreted) halo populations, we can, for the first time, derive the three-dimensional velocity DFs for these chemically-separated populations. We employ this smaller, but more data-rich APOGEE+{\it Gaia} sample to build a \emph{data-driven model} of the local stellar population velocity DFs, and use these as basis vectors for assessing the relative density proportions of these populations over 5 $<$ $R$ $<$ 12 kpc, and $-1.5$ $<$ $z$ $<$ 2.5 kpc range as derived from the larger, more complete (i.e., all-sky, magnitude-limited) {\it Gaia} database. We find that 81.9 $\pm$ 3.1$\%$ of the objects in the selected \emph{Gaia} data-set are thin-disk stars, 16.6 $\pm$ 3.2$\%$ are thick-disk stars, and 1.5 $\pm$ 0.1$\%$ belong to the Milky Way stellar halo. We also find the local thick-to-thin-disk density normalization to be $\rho_{T}(R_{\odot})$/$\rho_{t}(R_{\odot})$ = 2.1 $\pm$ 0.2$\%$, a result consistent with, but determined in a completely different way than, typical starcount/density analyses. Using the same methodology, the local halo-to-disk density normalization is found to be $\rho_{H}(R_{\odot})$/($\rho_{T}(R_{\odot})$ + $\rho_{t}(R_{\odot})$) = 1.2 $\pm$ 0.6$\%$, a value that may be inflated due to chemical overlap of halo and metal-weak thick disk stars., Comment: 15 pages, 12 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ
