As an alternative to Kripke models, simplicial complexes are a versatile semantic primitive on which to interpret epistemic logic. Given a set of vertices, a simplicial complex is a downward closed set of subsets, called simplexes, of the vertex set. A maximal simplex is called a facet. Impure simplicial complexes represent that some agents (processes) are dead. It is known that impure simplicial complexes categorically correspond to so-called partial epistemic (Kripke) models. In this contribution, we define a notion of bisimulation to compare impure simplicial complexes and show that it has the Hennessy-Milner property. These results are for a logical language including atoms that express whether agents are alive or dead. Without these atoms no reasonable standard notion of bisimulation exists, as we amply justify by counterexamples, because such a restricted language is insufficiently expressive., Comment: Proceedings of Advances in Modal Logic 2024

This work presents the first analysis of the disruptive locked mode (LM) triggered by the dynamics of a confinement change. It shows that, under certain conditions, the LM threshold during the transient is significantly lower than expected from steady states. We investigate the sensitivity to a controlled $n = 1$ error field (EF) activated prior to the L-H transition in the COMPASS tokamak, at $q_{95} \approx 3$, $\beta_N \approx 1$, and using EF coils on the high-field side of the vessel. A threshold for EF penetration subsequent to the L-H transition is identified, which shows no significant trend with density or applied torque, and is an apparent consequence of the reduced intrinsic rotation of the 2/1 mode during this transient phase. This finding challenges the assumption made in theoretical and empirical works that natural mode rotation can be predicted by global plasma parameters and urges against using any parametric EF penetration scaling derived from steady-state experiments to define the error field correction strategy in the entire discharge. Furthermore, even at EFs below the identified penetration threshold, disruptive locking of sawtooth-seeded 2/1 tearing modes is observed after about 30% of L-H transitions without external torque., Comment: 15 pages, 13 figures, submitted to Nuclear Fusion

This paper is an extended version of an earlier submission to WoLLIC 2023. We discuss two-layered logics formalising reasoning with probabilities and belief functions that combine the Lukasiewicz $[0,1]$-valued logic with Baaz $\triangle$ operator and the Belnap--Dunn logic. We consider two probabilistic logics that present two perspectives on the probabilities in the Belnap--Dunn logic: $\pm$-probabilities and $\mathbf{4}$-probabilities. In the first case, every event $\phi$ has independent positive and negative measures that denote the likelihoods of $\phi$ and $\neg\phi$, respectively. In the second case, the measures of the events are treated as partitions of the sample into four exhaustive and mutually exclusive parts corresponding to pure belief, pure disbelief, conflict and uncertainty of an agent in $\phi$. In addition to that, we discuss two logics for the paraconsistent reasoning with belief and plausibility functions. They equip events with two measures (positive and negative) with their main difference being whether the negative measure of $\phi$ is defined as the belief in $\neg\phi$ or treated independently as the plausibility of $\neg\phi$. We provide a sound and complete Hilbert-style axiomatisation of the logic of $\mathbf{4}$-probabilities and establish faithful translations between it and the logic of $\pm$-probabilities. This paper considers two logics. The first one, $\mathbf{K}\mathsf{G}_\mathsf{inv}$, is an expansion of the G\"odel modal logic $\mathbf{K}\mathsf{G}$ with the involutive negation $\sim_\mathsf{i}$ defined as $v({\sim_\mathsf{i}}\phi,w)=1-v(\phi,w)$. The second one, $\mathbf{K}\mathsf{G}_\mathsf{bl}$, is the expansion of $\mathbf{K}\mathsf{G}_\mathsf{inv}$ with the bi-lattice connectives and modalities. We explore their semantical properties w.r.t. the standard semantics on $[0,1]$-valued Kripke frames and define a unified tableaux calculus that allows for the explicit countermodel construction. For this, we use an alternative semantics with the finite model property. Using the tableaux calculus, we construct a decision algorithm and show that satisfiability and validity in $\mathbf{K}\mathsf{G}_\mathsf{inv}$ and $\mathbf{K}\mathsf{G}_\mathsf{bl}$ are PSpace-complete.

We present the axiomatisation of the fuzzy bi-G\"{o}del modal logic (formulated in the language containing $\triangle$ and treating the coimplication as a defined connective) and establish its PSpace-completeness. We also consider its paraconsistent relatives defined on fuzzy frames with two valuations $e_1$ and $e_2$ standing for the support of truth and falsity, respectively, and equipped with \emph{two fuzzy relations} $R^+$ and $R^-$ used to determine supports of truth and falsity of modal formulas. We establish embeddings of these paraconsistent logics into the fuzzy bi-G\"{o}del modal logic and use them to prove their PSpace-completeness and obtain the characterisation of definable frames.

Epistemic logics of intensional groups lift the assumption that membership in a group of agents is common knowledge. Instead of being represented directly as a set of agents, intensional groups are represented by a property that may change its extension from world to world. Several authors have considered versions of the intensional group framework where group-specifying properties are articulated using structured terms of a language, such as the language of Boolean algebras or of description logic. We introduce a paraconsistent expansion of the G\"{o}del logic with a De Morgan negation $\neg$ and modalities $\blacksquare$ and $\blacklozenge$. We equip it with Kripke semantics on frames with two (possibly fuzzy) relations: $R^+$ and $R^-$ (interpreted as the degree of trust in affirmations and denials by a given source) and valuations $v_1$ and $v_2$ (positive and negative support) ranging over $[0,1]$ and connected via $\neg$. We motivate the semantics of $\blacksquare\phi$ (resp., $\blacklozenge\phi$) as infima (suprema) of both positive and negative supports of $\phi$ in $R^+$- and $R^-$-accessible states, respectively. We then prove several instructive semantical properties of the logic. We further develop the paraconsistent G\"{o}del modal logic. In this paper, we consider its version endowed with Kripke semantics on $[0,1]$-valued frames with two fuzzy relations $R^+$ and $R^-$ (degrees of trust in assertions and denials) and two valuations $v_1$ and $v_2$ (support of truth and support of falsity) linked with a De Morgan negation $\neg$. We demonstrate that it \emph{does not} extend G\"{o}del modal logic and that $\Box$ and $\lozenge$ are not interdefinable. We also show that several important classes of frames are $\birelKGsquare$ definable (in particular, crisp, mono-relational, and finitely branching). For $\birelKGsquare$ over finitely branching frames, we create a sound and complete constraint tableaux calculus and a decision procedure based upon it. Using the decision procedure we show that $\birelKGsquare$ satisfiability and validity are in PSPACE.

We discuss two two-layered logics formalising reasoning with paraconsistent probabilities that combine the Lukasiewicz $[0,1]$-valued logic with Baaz $\triangle$ operator and the Belnap--Dunn logic.

We prove the uniform interpolation theorem in modal provability logics GL and Grz by a proof-theoretical method, using analytical and terminating sequent calculi for the logics. The calculus for G\"odel-L\"ob's logic GL is a variant of the standard sequent calculus, in the case of Grzegorczyk's logic Grz, the calculus implements an explicit loop-preventing mechanism inspired by work of Heuerding.

In this paper, we provide a Hilbert-style axiomatisation for the crisp bi-G\"{o}del modal logic $\KbiG$. We prove its completeness w.r.t.\ crisp Kripke models where formulas at each state are evaluated over the standard bi-G\"{o}del algebra on $[0,1]$. We also consider a paraconsistent expansion of $\KbiG$ with a De Morgan negation $\neg$ which we dub $\KGsquare$. We devise a Hilbert-style calculus for this logic and, as a~con\-se\-quence of a~conservative translation from $\KbiG$ to $\KGsquare$, prove its completeness w.r.t.\ crisp Kripke models with two valuations over $[0,1]$ connected via $\neg$. For these two logics, we establish that their decidability and validity are $\mathsf{PSPACE}$-complete. We also study the semantical properties of $\KbiG$ and $\KGsquare$. In particular, we show that Glivenko theorem holds only in finitely branching frames. We also explore the classes of formulas that define the same classes of frames both in $\mathbf{K}$ (the classical modal logic) and the crisp G\"{o}del modal logic $\KG^c$. We show that, among others, all Sahlqvist formulas and all formulas $\phi\rightarrow\chi$ where $\phi$ and $\chi$ are monotone, define the same classes of frames in $\mathbf{K}$ and $\KG^c$.

The reasoning with qualitative uncertainty measures involves comparative statements about events in terms of their likeliness without necessarily assigning an exact numerical value to these events. The paper is divided into two parts. In the first part, we formalise reasoning with the qualitative counterparts of capacities, belief functions, and probabilities, within the framework of two-layered logics. Namely, we provide two-layered logics built over the classical propositional logic using a unary belief modality $\Be$ that connects the inner layer to the outer one where the reasoning is formalised by means of G\"{o}del logic. We design their Hilbert-style axiomatisations and prove their completeness. In the second part, we discuss the paraconsistent generalisations of the logics for qualitative uncertainty that take into account the case of the available information being contradictory or inconclusive.

We introduce a~paraconsistent modal logic $\mathbf{K}\mathsf{G}^2$, based on G\"{o}del logic with coimplication (bi-G\"{o}del logic) expanded with a De Morgan negation $\neg$. We use the logic to formalise reasoning with graded, incomplete and inconsistent information. Semantics of $\mathbf{K}\mathsf{G}^2$ is two-dimensional: we interpret $\mathbf{K}\mathsf{G}^2$ on crisp frames with two valuations $v_1$ and $v_2$, connected via $\neg$, that assign to each formula two values from the real-valued interval $[0,1]$. The first (resp., second) valuation encodes the positive (resp., negative) information the state gives to a~statement. We obtain that $\mathbf{K}\mathsf{G}^2$ is strictly more expressive than the classical modal logic $\mathbf{K}$ by proving that finitely branching frames are definable and by establishing a faithful embedding of $\mathbf{K}$ into $\mathbf{K}\mathsf{G}^2$. We also construct a~constraint tableau calculus for $\mathbf{K}\mathsf{G}^2$ over finitely branching frames, establish its decidability and provide a~complexity evaluation.

We design an expansion of Belnap--Dunn logic with belief and plausibility functions that allow non-trivial reasoning with inconsistent and incomplete probabilistic information. We also formalise reasoning with non-standard probabilities and belief functions in two ways. First, using a calculus of linear inequalities, akin to the one presented in~\cite{FaginHalpernMegiddo1990}. Second, as a two-layered modal logic wherein reasoning with evidence (the outer layer) utilises paraconsistent expansions of \L{}ukasiewicz logic. The second approach is inspired by~\cite{BaldiCintulaNoguera2020}. We prove completeness for both kinds of calculi and show their equivalence by establishing faithful translations in both directions.

This paper revisits the multi-agent epistemic logic presented in [10], where agents and sets of agents are replaced by abstract, intensional "names". We make three contributions. First, we study its model theory, providing adequate notions of bisimulation and frame morphisms, and use them to study the logic's expressive power and definability. Second, we show that the logic has a natural neighborhood semantics, which in turn allows to show that the axiomatization in [10] does not rely on possibly controversial introspective properties of knowledge. Finally, we extend the logic with common and distributed knowledge operators, and provide a sound and complete axiomatization for each of these extensions. These results together put the original epistemic logic with names in a more modern context and opens the door for a logical analysis of epistemic phenomena where group membership is uncertain or variable., Comment: In Proceedings TARK 2021, arXiv:2106.10886

We introduce two-dimensional logics based on \L{}ukasiewicz and G\"{o}del logics to formalize paraconsistent fuzzy reasoning. The logics are interpreted on matrices, where the common underlying structure is the bi-lattice (twisted) product of the $[0,1]$ interval. The first (resp.\ second) coordinate encodes the positive (resp.\ negative) information one has about a statement. We propose constraint tableaux that provide a modular framework to address their completeness and complexity.

In this paper from 2009 we study IL(PRA), the interpretability logic of PRA. As PRA is neither an essentially reflexive theory nor finitely axiomatizable, the two known arithmetical completeness results do not apply to PRA: IL(PRA) is not ILM or ILP. IL(PRA) does of course contain all the principles known to be part of IL(All), the interpretability logic of the principles common to all reasonable arithmetical theories. In this paper, we take two arithmetical properties of PRA and see what their consequences in the modal logic IL(PRA) are. These properties are reflected in the so-called Beklemishev Principle B, and Zambella's Principle Z, neither of which is a part of IL(All). Both principles and their interrelation are submitted to a modal study. In particular, we prove a frame condition for B. Moreover, we prove that Z follows from a restricted form of B. Finally, we give an overview of the known relationships of IL(PRA) to important other interpetability principles.

A recent line of research has developed around logics of belief based on evidence. The approach of B\'ilkov\'a et al understands belief as based on information confirmed by a reliable source. We propose a finer analysis of how belief can be based on information, where the confirmation comes from multiple possibly conflicting sources and is of a probabilistic nature. We use Belnap-Dunn logic and its probabilistic extensions to account for potentially contradictory information on which belief is grounded. We combine it with an extension of Lukasiewicz logic, or a bilattice logic, within a two-layer modal logical framework to account for belief.

The notion of a critical successor [dJV90] has been central to almost all modal completeness proofs in interpretability logics. In this paper we shall work with an alternative notion, that of an assuring successor. As we shall see, this will enable more concisely formulated completeness proofs, both with respect to ordinary and generalised Veltman semantics. Due to their interesting theoretical properties, we will devote some space to the study of a particular kind of assuring labels, the so-called full labels and maximal labels.. After a general treatment of assuringness, we shall apply it to obtain certain completeness results. Proof-theoretic methods are developed for subsystems of Johansson's logic obtained by extending the positive fragment of intuitionistic logic with weak negations. These methods are exploited to establish properties of the logical systems. In particular, cut-free complete sequent calculi are introduced and used to provide a proof of the fact that the systems satisfy the Craig interpolation property. Alternative versions of the calculi are later obtained by means of an appropriate loop-checking history mechanism. Termination of the new calculi is proved, and used to conclude that the considered logical systems are PSPACE-complete.

We present a finitary version of Moss' coalgebraic logic for $T$-coalgebras, where $T$ is a locally monotone endofunctor of the category of posets and monotone maps. The logic uses a single cover modality whose arity is given by the least finitary subfunctor of the dual of the coalgebra functor $T_\omega^\partial$, and the semantics of the modality is given by relation lifting. For the semantics to work, $T$ is required to preserve exact squares. For the finitary setting to work, $T_\omega^\partial$ is required to preserve finite intersections. We develop a notion of a base for subobjects of $T_\omega X$. This in particular allows us to talk about the finite poset of subformulas for a given formula. The notion of a base is introduced generally for a category equipped with a suitable factorisation system. We prove that the resulting logic has the Hennessy-Milner property for the notion of similarity based on the notion of relation lifting. We define a sequent proof system for the logic, and prove its completeness.

We introduce the logic LRC, designed to describe and reason about agents' abilities and capabilities in using resources. The proposed framework bridges two - up to now - mutually independent strands of literature: the one on logics of abilities and capabilities, developed within the theory of agency, and the one on logics of resources, motivated by program semantics. The logic LRC is suitable to describe and reason about key aspects of social behaviour in organizations. We prove a number of properties enjoyed by LRC (soundness, completeness, canonicity, disjunction property) and its associated analytic calculus (conservativity, cut elimination and subformula property). These results lay at the intersection of the algebraic theory of unified correspondence and the theory of multi-type calculi in structural proof theory. Case studies are discussed which showcase several ways in which this framework can be extended and enriched while retaining its basic properties, so as to model an array of issues, both practically and theoretically relevant, spanning from planning problems to the logical foundations of the theory of organizations.

We introduce basic notions and results about relation liftings on categories enriched in a commutative quantale. We derive two necessary and sufficient conditions for a 2-functor T to admit a functorial relation lifting: one is the existence of a distributive law of T over the "powerset monad" on categories, one is the preservation by T of "exactness" of certain squares. Both characterisations are generalisations of the "classical" results known for set functors: the first characterisation generalises the existence of a distributive law over the genuine powerset monad, the second generalises preservation of weak pullbacks. The results presented in this paper enable us to compute predicate liftings of endofunctors of, for example, generalised (ultra)metric spaces. The category Rel(Set) of sets and relations can be described as a category of spans and as the Kleisli category for the powerset monad. A set-functor can be lifted to a functor on Rel(Set) iff it preserves weak pullbacks. We show that these results extend to the enriched setting, if we replace sets by posets or preorders. Preservation of weak pullbacks becomes preservation of exact lax squares. As an application we present Moss's coalgebraic over posets.
