8. Influencing Factors of Anemia in Patients with Diabetic Kidney Disease

Abstract

Background Patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) are more prone to anemia than those with non-diabetic kidney disease. Anemia quickens the progression of DKD, and is closely associated with cardiovascular disease and other complications. So studying the influencing factors of anemia in DKD is of great importance to the reduction of anemia incidence and the delaying of DKD progression. Objective To investigate the influencing factors of anemia in DKD. Methods Two hundred and fifty-four inpatients with DKD were selected from Department of Nephrology, First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University from January 2019 to September 2020. Data of them were retrospectively collected, including demographic information 〔gender, age, height, weight, blood pressure, duration of diabetes, calculated body mass index (BMI) , and smoke prevalence〕, and laboratory test indices 〔red blood cells (RBC) , serum hemoglobin (Hb) , total protein (TP) , albumin (ALB) , globulin (GLB) , alkaline phosphatase (ALP) , cholinesterase (CHE) , uric acid (SUA) , blood urea nitrogen (BUN) , creatinine (Scr) , cystatin C (Cys C) , retinol binding protein (RBP) , fasting plasma glucose (FPG) , calcium (Ca) , phosphorus (P) , magnesium (Mg) , zinc (Zn) , iron, unsaturatediron binding capacity (UIBC) , total iron binding capacity (TIBC) , ferritin, transferrin (TRF) , C-reactive protein (CRP) , and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) , glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) , UALB/CRE, 24-hour urine for microalbumin (24 h-mALB) , 24-hour urine for total protein (24 h-MTP) 〕 and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) . One hundred and sixteen cases were diagnosed with anemia, and 138 without (anemia was defined as serum Hb≤130 g/L for men, and ≤120 g/L for women) . Abstract

This study examines the impact of Social Insurance Law in 2011 on enterprises' digital transformation, using a quasi‐natural experiment with difference‐in‐differences method. Implementation of the law contributes to enterprises' digital transformation. Mechanism tests reveal that implementation of the law promotes enterprise digital transformation by increasing labor costs. Heterogeneity analysis demonstrates that nonstate enterprises, enterprises with weaker financing constraints, and mature enterprises experience a more pronounced impact of the law. Enterprises in regions with highly integrated digital development and those in industries with a high level of digital transformation are more affected by the law. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

26. Characteristics of Wild Bird Resistomes and Dissemination of Antibiotic Resistance Genes in Interconnected Bird-Habitat Systems Revealed by Similarity of blaTEMPolymorphic Sequences

Abstract

Wild birds are known to harbor and discharge antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) and their associated antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). However, assessments of their contribution to the dissemination of antibiotic resistance in the environment are limited to culture-dependent bacterial snapshots. Here, we present a high-throughput sequencing study that corroborates extensive ARG exchange between wild bird feces and their habitats and implies the need to scrutinize high-mobility birds as potential vectors for global propagation of ARGs. We characterized the resistome (281 ARGs) and microbiome of seven wild bird species and their terrestrial and aquatic habitats. The resistomes of bird feces were influenced by the microbial community structure, mobile genetic elements (MGEs), and residual antibiotics. We designated 33 ARGs found in more than 90% of the bird fecal samples as core ARGs of wild bird feces, among which 16 ARGs were shared as core ARGs in both wild bird feces and their habitats; these genes represent a large proportion of both the bird feces (35.0 ± 15.9%) and the environmental resistome (29.9 ± 21.4%). One of the most detected β-lactam resistance genes (blaTEM, commonly harbored by multidrug resistant “superbugs”) was used as molecular marker to demonstrate the high interconnectivity of ARGs between the microbiomes of wild birds and their habitats. Overall, this work provides a comprehensive analysis of the wild bird resistome and underscores the importance to consider genetic exchange between animals and the environment in the One Health approach.

Abstract

[Image: see text] Pyxinol, the main metabolite of 20S-protopanaxadiol in human liver, was chosen as a novel skeleton for the development of anti-inflammatory agents. Pyxinol derivatives modified at C-3, C-12, or C-25 and selected stereoisomers were designed, prepared, and investigated for in vitro anti-inflammatory activities. Structure–activity relationship (SAR), focused on skeleton, was analyzed based on their ability to inhibit lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO) synthesis. The preliminary SAR results signified that the biological activity of the pyxinol derivatives is largely dependent on the R/S stereochemistry of pyxinol skeleton and the hydroxy at C-3 is a modifiable position. Among the tested compounds, the 3-oximinopyxinol (4a) exhibited the most potent NO-inhibitory activity and was even comparable to the steroid drug. Furthermore, compound 4a also significantly decreased LPS-induced TNF-α and IL-6 synthesis and iNOS and COX-2 expressions via the NF-κB pathway. This study proves that pyxinol is an interesting skeleton for anti-inflammatory drug discovery.

41. Localized primary malignant pericardial mesothelioma.

Abstract

Primary malignant pericardial mesothelioma (PMPM) is an extremely rare tumor, which may appear as a localized or a diffuse mass encasing the heart. Diffuse PMPMs have a poor prognosis due to the difficulty of surgical excision, whereas localized PMPMs have clear margins, thus facilitating surgical excision. Timely diagnosis and proper treatment are crucial for a favorable prognosis. Eight cases of localized PMPMs have been reported so far, but their characteristics have not been fully described. 42. An Integrated Approach Based on a DNA Self-Assembly Technique for Characterization of Crosstalk among Combinatorial Histone Modifications

Abstract

Combinatorial histone post-translational modifications (HPTMs) form a complex epigenetic code that can be decoded by specific binding proteins, termed as readers. Their specific interplays have been thought to determine gene expression and downstream biological functions. However, it is still a big challenge to analyze such interactions due to various limitations including rather weak, transient, and complicated interactions between HPTMs and readers, the high dynamic property of HPTMs, and the low abundance of reader proteins. Here we sought to take advantage of DNA-templated and photo-cross-linking techniques to design a group of combinatorial histone PTM peptide probes for the identification of multivalent interactions among histone PTMs and readers. By use of trimethylation on histone H3K4 (H3K4me3) and phosphorylation on H3T3, we demonstrated that this approach can be successfully utilized for identification of the PTM crosstalk on the same histone. By use of H3K4me3 and acetylation on H4K16, we showed the potential application of the probe in the multivalent interactions among PTMs on different histones. Thus, this new chemical proteomics tool combined with mass spectrometry holds a promising potential in profiling of the readers of combinatorial HPTMs and characterization of crosstalk among multiple PTMs on histones and can be adapted for broad biomedical applications.

Abstract

We (ICTNET team) participated in Web Track of TREC2009, and in this paper, we summarize our work on Diversity task of Web Track, which is new in this year. The goal of the diversity task is to return a ranked list of pages that together provide complete coverage for a query, while avoiding excessive redundancy in the result list. For this task, we cluster the results of ad hoc task, and rerank the results depend on subtopics docs covers. Besides, we introduce two methods which tried to find the implicit subtopic by using the docs returned from commerce search engine., Presented at the Text REtrieval Conference (TREC 2009, 18th) held in Gaithersburg, Maryland on 17-20 November 2009. Abstract

This is the third year that we (ICT-CAS team) participated in the Enterprise Track of TREC. The track of this year includes two tasks, being document search task and expert search task. As to the document search task, we compare two retrieval models, namely BM25 model and language model. As to the expert search task, we focus on the authority of persons by exploring the persons' recommendation network constructed from their associated documents. What's more, we investigate the effectiveness of query expansion on both tasks., Presented at the Text REtrieval Conference (17th) (TREC 2008) held in Gaithersburg, MD on 18-21 Nov 2008.
