In this paper, a lightweight model—OMC-YOLO, improved based on YOLOv8n—is proposed for the automated detection and grading of oyster mushrooms. Aiming at the problems of low efficiency, high costs, and the difficult quality assurance of manual operations in traditional oyster mushroom cultivation, OMC-YOLO was improved based on the YOLOv8n model. Specifically, the model introduces deeply separable convolution (DWConv) into the backbone network, integrates the large separated convolution kernel attention mechanism (LSKA) and Slim-Neck structure into the Neck part, and adopts the DIoU loss function for optimization. The experimental results show that on the oyster mushroom dataset, the OMC-YOLO model had a higher detection effect compared to mainstream target detection models such as Faster R-CNN, SSD, YOLOv3-tiny, YOLOv5n, YOLOv6, YOLOv7-tiny, YOLOv8n, YOLOv9-gelan, YOLOv10n, etc., and that the mAP50 value reached 94.95%, which is an improvement of 2.62%. The number of parameters and the computational amount were also reduced by 26%. The model provides technical support for the automatic detection of oyster mushroom grades, which helps in realizing quality control and reducing labor costs and has positive significance for the construction of smart agriculture. Agricultural wireless sensor networks plays a key role in obtaining multi-source heterogeneous big data of farmland soil, environment and crop growth. The increasing network scale brings challenges to the application of agricultural Internet of Things. In order to solve the problem that sensors are not uniformly distributed in farmland and constrained by energy, a collaborative optimization hybrid multi hop routing algorithm, particle simulated multipath routing (PSMR) based on particle swarm optimization and simulated annealing was proposed. Firstly, cluster heads were selected by node residual energy and node degree weighting, and cluster structure was used to realize efficient dynamic networking of heterogeneous networks. Then, the multi hop data structure between cluster heads was used to solve the problem of high energy consumption in long-distance transmission of cluster heads. Particle swarm optimization and simulated annealing were used to improve the convergence speed, and sink nodes could accelerate the collection of aggregated data in cluster heads. The simulation results showed that compared with the energy-efficient load balancing multipath routing scheme (EMR), the network lifetime of PSMR algorithm was increased by 57%. EMR selected the data transmission link with low energy consumption and small delay by calculating the weight of total link hops and transmission energy consumption. Compared with greedy perimeter stateless routing-algorithm (GPSR-A algorithm), which could ensure the shortest data transmission distance and lower network transmission delay, the first dead sensor node was delayed for two rounds in the same network life cycle, and the residual energy standard deviation was reduced by 0.04 J, which had good network energy consumption balance. PSMR algorithm could reduce the extra energy consumption of remote cluster heads by multi hop between cluster heads, and improved the energy balance performance of cluster heads with different distances. It can provide technical basis for long-term, efficient and stable data acquisition and monitoring of large-scale farmland complex environment, and improve the resource utilization efficiency of agricultural Internet of Things.

Ensuring the security of germplasm resources is of great significance for the sustainable development of agriculture and ecological balance. By combining the morphological characteristics of maize seeds with hyperspectral data, maize variety classification has been achieved using machine learning algorithms. Initially, the morphological data of seeds are obtained from images, followed by the selection of feature subsets using Recursive Feature Elimination (RFE) and Select From Model (SFM) methods, indicating that features selected by RFE exhibit better performance in maize seed classification. For hyperspectral data (350–2500 nm), Competitive Adaptive Re-weighted Sampling (CARS) and the Successive Projections Algorithm (SPA) are employed to extract feature wavelengths, with the SPA algorithm demonstrating superior performance in maize seed classification tasks. Subsequently, the two sets of data are merged, and a Random Forest (RF) classifier optimized by Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) is utilized. Given the limitations of GWO, strategies such as logistic chaotic mapping for population initialization, random perturbation, and final replacement mechanisms are incorporated to enhance the algorithm's search capabilities. The experimental results show that the proposed ZGWO-RF model achieves an accuracy of 95.9%, precision of 96.2%, and recall of 96.1% on the test set, outperforming the unimproved model. The constructed model exhibits improved identification effects on multi-source data, providing a new tool for non-destructive testing and the accurate classification of seeds in the future. From connected sensors in soils, on animals or crops, and on drones, to various software and services that are available, "smart" technologies are changing the way farming is carried out. These technologies allow producers to look beyond what the eye can see by collecting non-traditional data and then using analytics tools to improve both food sustainability and profitability. "Smart Agriculture/farming" (SA) or "Digital Agriculture" (DA), often used interchangeably, refer to precision agriculture that is thus connected in a network of sensing and acting. It is a concept that employs modern information technologies, precision climate information, and crop/livestock developmental information to connect production variables to increase the quantity and quality of agricultural and food products. This is achieved by measuring and analyzing variables accurately, feeding the information into the cloud from edge devices, extracting trends from the various data, and subsequently providing information back to the producer in a timely manner. Smart agriculture covers many disciplines, including biology, mechanical engineering, automation, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and information technology-digital platforms. Minimum standards have been proposed for stakeholders with the aim to move toward this highly anticipated and ever-changing revolution. These foundational standards encompass the following general categories, including precise articulation of objectives, and baseline standards for the Internet of Things (IoT), including network infrastructure (e.g., stable 4G or 5G networks or a wireless local area network (WLAN) are available to end users). To sum up, SA aims to improve production efficiency, enhance the quality and quantity of agricultural products, reduce costs, and improve the environmental footprint of the industry. SA's ecosystem should be industry self-governed and collaboratively financed. SA stakeholders and end-users' facilities should meet standard equipment requirements, such as sensor accuracy, end data collectors, relevant industry compliant software, and trusted data analytics. Metaheuristic optimization algorithms play a crucial role in optimization problems. However, the traditional identification methods have the following problems: (1) difficulties in nonlinear data processing; (2) high error rates caused by local stagnation; and (3) low classification rates resulting from premature convergence. This paper proposed a variant based on the gray wolf optimization algorithm (GWO) with chaotic disturbance, candidate migration, and attacking mechanisms, naming it the enhanced gray wolf optimizer (EGWO), to solve the problem of premature convergence and local stagnation. The performance of the EGWO was tested on IEEE CEC 2014 benchmark functions, and the results of the EGWO were compared with the performance of three GWO variants, five traditional and popular algorithms, and six recent algorithms. In addition, EGWO optimized the weights and biases of a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) and proposed an EGWO-MLP disease identification model; the model was tested on IEEE CEC 2014 benchmark functions, and EGWO-MLP was verified by UCI dataset including Tic-Tac-Toe, Heart, XOR, and Balloon datasets. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed EGWO-MLP model can effectively avoid local optimization problems and premature convergence and provide a quasi-optimal solution for the optimization problem.
