The Water Cherenkov Detector Array (WCDA) is one of the components of Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) and can monitor any sources over two-thirds of the sky for up to 7 hours per day with >98\% duty cycle. In this work, we report the detection of two outbursts of the Fanaroff-Riley I radio galaxy NGC 1275 that were detected by LHAASO-WCDA between November 2022 and January 2023 with statistical significance of 5.2~$\sigma$ and 8.3~$\sigma$. The observed spectral energy distribution in the range from 500 GeV to 3 TeV is fitted by a power-law with a best-fit spectral index of $\alpha=-3.37\pm0.52$ and $-3.35\pm0.29$, respectively. The outburst flux above 0.5~TeV was ($4.55\pm 4.21)\times~10^{-11}~\rm cm^{-2}~s^{-1}$ and ($3.45\pm 1.78)\times~10^{-11}~\rm cm^{-2}~s^{-1}$, corresponding to 60\%, 45\% of Crab Nebula flux. Variation analysis reveals the variability time-scale of days at the TeV energy band. We report the detection of an extended very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray source coincident with the location of middle-aged (62.4~\rm kyr) pulsar PSR J0248+6021, by using the LHAASO-WCDA data of live 796 days and LHAASO-KM2A data of live 1216 days. A significant excess of \gray induced showers is observed both by WCDA in energy bands of 1-25~\rm TeV and KM2A in energy bands of $>$ 25~\rm TeV with 7.3 $\sigma$ and 13.5 $\sigma$, respectively. The best-fit position derived through WCDA data is R.A. = 42.06$^\circ \pm$ 0.12$^\circ$ and Dec. = 60.24$^\circ \pm $ 0.13$^\circ$ with an extension of 0.69$^\circ\pm$0.15$^\circ$ and that of the KM2A data is R.A.= 42.29$^\circ \pm $ 0.13$^\circ$ and Dec. = 60.38$^\circ \pm$ 0.07$^\circ$ with an extension of 0.37$^\circ\pm$0.07$^\circ$. No clear extended multiwavelength counterpart of this LHAASO source has been found from the radio band to the GeV band. The most plausible explanation of the VHE \gray emission is the inverse Compton process of highly relativistic electrons and positrons injected by the pulsar. Efficiently preparing approximate ground-states of large, strongly correlated systems on quantum hardware is challenging and yet nature is innately adept at this. This has motivated the study of thermodynamically inspired approaches to ground-state preparation that aim to replicate cooling processes via imaginary-time evolution. However, synthesizing quantum circuits that efficiently implement imaginary-time evolution is itself difficult, with prior proposals generally adopting heuristic variational approaches or using deep block encodings. Here, we use the insight that quantum imaginary-time evolution is a solution of Brockett's double-bracket flow and synthesize circuits that implement double-bracket flows coherently on the quantum computer. We prove that our Double-Bracket Quantum Imaginary-Time Evolution (DB-QITE) algorithm inherits the cooling guarantees of imaginary-time evolution. Concretely, each step is guaranteed to i) decrease the energy of an initial approximate ground-state by an amount proportion to the energy fluctuations of the initial state and ii) increase the fidelity with the ground-state. Thus DB-QITE provides a means to systematically improve the approximation of a ground-state using shallow circuits.

We present Turbo3D, an ultra-fast text-to-3D system capable of generating high-quality Gaussian splatting assets in under one second. Turbo3D employs a rapid 4-step, 4-view diffusion generator and an efficient feed-forward Gaussian reconstructor, both operating in latent space. The 4-step, 4-view generator is a student model distilled through a novel Dual-Teacher approach, which encourages the student to learn view consistency from a multi-view teacher and photo-realism from a single-view teacher. By shifting the Gaussian reconstructor's inputs from pixel space to latent space, we eliminate the extra image decoding time and halve the transformer sequence length for maximum efficiency. In this paper, we generalize the notions of numerical radius parallelism and numerical radius Birkhoff orthogonality, originally formulated for operators on Hilbert spaces, to operators on normed spaces. We then proceed to demonstrate their fundamental properties. Notably, our findings reveal that numerical radius parallelism lacks transitivity, and numerical radius Birkhoff orthogonality is neither left nor right additive. Additionally, we offer characterizations for both concepts. Furthermore, we establish a connection between numerical radius parallelism and numerical radius Birkhoff orthogonality.

Recent observations have revealed an unusual stellar distribution within the almost dark dwarf galaxy Nube. The galaxy exhibits a remarkably flat stellar distribution, with an effective radius of approximately 6.9 kpc, exceeding the typical size of dwarf galaxies and even surpassing that of ultra-diffuse galaxies (UDGs) with similar stellar masses. The dynamical heating effect of fuzzy dark matter (FDM) may offer an explanation for this extremely diffuse stellar distribution in Nube. While 3D Gaussian Splatting enables high-quality real-time rendering, existing Gaussian-based frameworks for 3D semantic segmentation still face significant challenges in boundary recognition accuracy. To address this, we propose a novel 3DGS-based framework named GradiSeg, incorporating Identity Encoding to construct a deeper semantic understanding of scenes. Our approach introduces two key modules: Identity Gradient Guided Densification (IGD) and Local Adaptive K-Nearest Neighbors (LA-KNN). The IGD module supervises gradients of Identity Encoding to refine Gaussian distributions along object boundaries, aligning them closely with boundary contours. Meanwhile, the LA-KNN module employs position gradients to adaptively establish locality-aware propagation of Identity Encodings, preventing irregular Gaussian spreads near boundaries. We validate the effectiveness of our method through comprehensive experiments. Results show that GradiSeg effectively addresses boundary-related issues, significantly improving segmentation accuracy without compromising scene reconstruction quality. Furthermore, our method's robust segmentation capability and decoupled Identity Encoding representation make it highly suitable for various downstream scene editing tasks, including 3D object removal, swapping and so on.

Remote sensing foundation models largely break away from the traditional paradigm of designing task-specific models, offering greater scalability across multiple tasks. However, they face challenges such as low computational efficiency and limited interpretability, especially when dealing with high-resolution remote sensing images. To overcome these, we draw inspiration from heat conduction, a physical process modeling local heat diffusion. Building on this idea, we are the first to explore the potential of using the parallel computing model of heat conduction to simulate the local region correlations in high-resolution remote sensing images, and introduce RS-vHeat, an efficient multi-modal remote sensing foundation model. Specifically, RS-vHeat 1) applies the Heat Conduction Operator (HCO) with a complexity of $O(N^{1.5})$ and a global receptive field, reducing computational overhead while capturing remote sensing object structure information to guide heat diffusion; 2) learns the frequency distribution representations of various scenes through a self-supervised strategy based on frequency domain hierarchical masking and multi-domain reconstruction; 3) significantly improves efficiency and performance over state-of-the-art techniques across 4 tasks and 10 datasets. We present Buffer Anytime, a framework for estimation of depth and normal maps (which we call geometric buffers) from video that eliminates the need for paired video--depth and video--normal training data. Instead of relying on large-scale annotated video datasets, we demonstrate high-quality video buffer estimation by leveraging single-image priors with temporal consistency constraints. Our zero-shot training strategy combines state-of-the-art image estimation models based on optical flow smoothness through a hybrid loss function, implemented via a lightweight temporal attention architecture. Applied to leading image models like Depth Anything V2 and Marigold-E2E-FT, our approach significantly improves temporal consistency while maintaining accuracy. Experiments show that our method not only outperforms image-based approaches but also achieves results comparable to state-of-the-art video models trained on large-scale paired video datasets, despite using no such paired video data.

Achieving strongly nonreciprocal scattering in compact linear acoustic devices is a challenging task. One possible solution is the use of time-modulated resonators, however, their implementation in the realm of audible airborne acoustics is typically hindered by the difficulty to obtain large modulation depth and speeds while managing noise issues. Here, we propose a practical and cost-efficient route to realize simple modulated resonators and observe experimentally the strong nonreciprocal behavior of an acoustic circulator. We propose to modulate the neck cross-section areas of three coupled Helmholtz resonators using rotating circular plates actuated by an electrical motor, and control their phase difference via meshed gears, thereby implementing a modulation scheme with broken time-reversal symmetry that effectively imparts angular momentum to the system. We experimentally demonstrate tunable nonreciprocal behavior with a high nonreciprocal isolation of 34 dB and reflection as low as -9 dB, with insertion losses of 5 dB and parasitic signals below -20 dB. All the experimental results agree well with theoretical and numerical predictions.

The solar system planets are benchmarks for the planet formation theory. Yet two paradigms coexist for the four terrestrial planets: the prolonged collisional growth among planetesimals lasting $>100$ million years (Myr) and the fast formation via planetesimals accreting pebbles within 10 Myr. Despite their dramatic difference, we can hardly tell which theory is more relevant to the true history of the terrestrial planets' formation. Here, we show that the Moon's origin puts stringent constraints on the pebble accretion scenario, rendering it less favourable. In the pebble accretion model, the one-off giant impact between proto-Earth and Theia rarely (probability $<$ 1\textperthousand) occurs at the right timing and configuration for the Moon formation. Even if a potential impact happens by chance, giant impact simulations reveal perfect mixing between proto-Earth and Theia, leaving no room for the observed primordial Earth mantle heterogeneity and the compositional difference, though small, between Earth and the Moon. Thus, the Earth-Moon system along other terrestrial planets should preferably form from chaotic collisional growth in the inner solar system., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

We address the problem of generating videos from unposed internet photos. A handful of input images serve as keyframes, and our model interpolates between them to simulate a path moving between the cameras. Given random images, a model's ability to capture underlying geometry, recognize scene identity, and relate frames in terms of camera position and orientation reflects a fundamental understanding of 3D structure and scene layout. However, existing video models such as Luma Dream Machine fail at this task. We design a self-supervised method that takes advantage of the consistency of videos and variability of multiview internet photos to train a scalable, 3D-aware video model without any 3D annotations such as camera parameters. We validate that our method outperforms all baselines in terms of geometric and appearance consistency. We also show our model benefits applications that enable camera control, such as 3D Gaussian Splatting. Our results suggest that we can scale up scene-level 3D learning using only 2D data such as videos and multiview internet photos.

Recurrent neural network (RNNs) that are capable of modeling long-distance dependencies are widely used in various speech tasks, eg., keyword spotting (KWS) and speech enhancement (SE). Due to the limitation of power and memory in low-resource devices, efficient RNN models are urgently required for real-world applications. In this paper, we propose an efficient RNN architecture, GhostRNN, which reduces hidden state redundancy with cheap operations. In particular, we observe that partial dimensions of hidden states are similar to the others in trained RNN models, suggesting that redundancy exists in specific RNNs. To reduce the redundancy and hence computational cost, we propose to first generate a few intrinsic states, and then apply cheap operations to produce ghost states based on the intrinsic states. Experiments on KWS and SE tasks demonstrate that the proposed GhostRNN significantly reduces the memory usage (~40%) and computation cost while keeping performance similar.

This study investigates the temporal and spatial variations in lithium abundance within the Milky Way using a sample of 22,034 main-sequence turn-off (MSTO) stars and subgiants, characterised by precise stellar ages, 3D NLTE (non-local thermodynamic equilibrium) lithium abundances, and birth radii. Our results reveal a complex variation in lithium abundance with stellar age: a gradual increase from 14 Gyr to 6 Gyr, followed by a decline between 6 Gyr and 4.5 Gyr, and a rapid increase thereafter. We find that young Li-rich stars (ages $<$ 4 Gyr, A(Li) $>$ 2.7 dex) predominantly originate from the outer disc. By binning the sample according to guiding center radius and z$_{\rm max}$, we observe that these young Li-rich stars migrate radially to the local and inner discs. In addition, the stars originating from the inner disc experienced a rapid Li enrichment process between 8 Gyr and 6 Gyr. Our analysis suggests that the age range of Li-dip stars is 4-5 Gyr, encompassing evolution stages from MSTO stars to subgiants. The Galactic radial profile of A(Li) (with respect to birth radius), as a function of age, reveals three distinct periods: 14-6 Gyr ago, 6-4 Gyr ago, and 4-1 Gyr ago. Initially, the lithium abundance gradient is positive, indicating increasing Li abundance with birth radius. During the second period, it transitions to a negative and broken gradient, mainly affected by Li-dip stars. This paper addresses the challenges of accurately enumerating and describing scenes and the labor-intensive process required to replicate acoustic environments using non-generative methods. We introduce the prompt-based Dynamic Generative Sce-ne-based Noise Addition method (DGSNA), which innovatively combines the Dynamic Generation of Scene Information (DGSI) with Scene-based Noise Addition for Audio (SNAA). Employing generative chat models structured within the Back-ground-Examples-Task (BET) prompt framework, DGSI com-ponent facilitates the dynamic synthesis of tailored Scene Infor-mation (SI) for specific acoustic environments. Additionally, the SNAA component leverages Room Impulse Response (RIR) fil-ters and Text-To-Audio (TTA) systems to generate realistic, scene-based noise that can be adapted for both indoor and out-door environments. Through comprehensive experiments, the adaptability of DGSNA across different generative chat models was demonstrated. The results, assessed through both objective and subjective evaluations, show that DGSNA provides robust performance in dynamically generating precise SI and effectively enhancing scene-based noise addition capabilities, thus offering significant improvements over traditional methods in acoustic scene simulation. The advancement of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) has enabled significant progress in multimodal understanding, expanding their capacity to analyze video content. However, existing evaluation benchmarks for MLLMs primarily focus on abstract video comprehension, lacking a detailed assessment of their ability to understand video compositions, the nuanced interpretation of how visual elements combine and interact within highly compiled video contexts. We introduce VidComposition, a new benchmark specifically designed to evaluate the video composition understanding capabilities of MLLMs using carefully curated compiled videos and cinematic-level annotations. VidComposition includes 982 videos with 1706 multiple-choice questions, covering various compositional aspects such as camera movement, angle, shot size, narrative structure, character actions and emotions, etc. Our comprehensive evaluation of 33 open-source and proprietary MLLMs reveals a significant performance gap between human and model capabilities. This highlights the limitations of current MLLMs in understanding complex, compiled video compositions and offers insights into areas for further improvement. Recent image-to-3D reconstruction models have greatly advanced geometry generation, but they still struggle to faithfully generate realistic appearance. To address this, we introduce ARM, a novel method that reconstructs high-quality 3D meshes and realistic appearance from sparse-view images. The core of ARM lies in decoupling geometry from appearance, processing appearance within the UV texture space. Unlike previous methods, ARM improves texture quality by explicitly back-projecting measurements onto the texture map and processing them in a UV space module with a global receptive field. To resolve ambiguities between material and illumination in input images, ARM introduces a material prior that encodes semantic appearance information, enhancing the robustness of appearance decomposition. Trained on just 8 H100 GPUs, ARM outperforms existing methods both quantitatively and qualitatively.

In this paper, the authors propose TriBERTa, a supervised entity resolution system that utilizes a pre-trained large language model and a triplet loss function to learn representations for entity matching. The system consists of two steps: first, name entity records are fed into a Sentence Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (SBERT) model to generate vector representations, which are then fine-tuned using contrastive learning based on a triplet loss function. Fine-tuned representations are used as input for entity matching tasks, and the results show that the proposed approach outperforms state-of-the-art representations, including SBERT without fine-tuning and conventional Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF), by a margin of 3 - 19%. Additionally, the representations generated by TriBERTa demonstrated increased robustness, maintaining consistently higher performance across a range of datasets. Topological superconductors and Majorana edge modes at their boundaries have been theoretically predicted. However, their experimental observation remains controversial. Recent theoretical studies suggest that chiral Majorana edge modes exhibit distinct spatially-resolved optical conductivity compared to chiral Dirac edge modes. In this work, we investigate the optical conductivity and spatially-resolved optical conductivity induced by Majorana edge modes and Dirac edge modes under time-reversal symmetry and crystalline symmetry. We conduct numerical calculations and analytical calculations with edge effective theory for two-dimensional ${\mathbb Z}_2$ topological insulators, strong topological superconductors, and topological crystalline superconductors. This study investigates the correlation between dairy farm characteristics and methane concentrations as derived from satellite observations in Eastern Canada. Utilizing data from 11 dairy farms collected between January 2020 and December 2022, we integrated Sentinel-5P satellite methane data with critical farm-level attributes, including herd genetics, feeding practices, and management strategies. Initial analyses revealed significant correlations with methane concentrations, leading to the application of Variance Inflation Factor (VIF) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to address multicollinearity and enhance model stability. Subsequently, machine learning models - specifically Random Forest and Neural Networks - were employed to evaluate feature importance and predict methane emissions. Our findings indicate a strong negative correlation between the Estimated Breeding Value (EBV) for protein percentage and methane concentrations, suggesting that genetic selection for higher milk protein content could be an effective strategy for emissions reduction. The integration of atmospheric transport models with satellite data further refined our emission estimates, significantly enhancing accuracy and spatial resolution. This research underscores the potential of advanced satellite monitoring, machine learning techniques, and atmospheric modeling in improving methane emission assessments within the dairy sector. It emphasizes the critical role of farm-specific characteristics in developing effective mitigation strategies. Future investigations should focus on expanding the dataset and incorporating inversion modeling for more precise emission quantification. In this paper, we developed a spectral emulator based on the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory Stellar Library (MaStar) and a grouping optimization strategy to estimate effective temperature (T_eff), surface gravity (log g), metallicity ([Fe/H]) and the abundance of alpha elements with respect to iron ([alpha/Fe]) for O-M-type stars within the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) low-resolution spectra. The primary aim is to use a rapid spectral-fitting method, specifically the spectral emulator with the grouping optimization strategy, to create a comprehensive catalog for stars of all types within LAMOST, addressing the shortcomings in parameter estimations for both cold and hot stars present in the official LAMOST AFGKM-type catalog. This effort is part of our series of studies dedicated to establishing an empirical spectral library for LAMOST. Experimental results demonstrate that our method is effectively applicable to parameter prediction for LAMOST, with the single-machine processing time within $70$ hr. We observed that the internal error dispersions for T_eff, log g, [Fe/H], and [alpha/Fe] across different spectral types lie within the ranges of $15-594$ K, $0.03-0.27$ dex, $0.02-0.10$ dex, and $0.01-0.04$ dex, respectively, indicating a good consistency. A comparative analysis with external data highlighted deficiencies in the official LAMOST catalog and issues with MaStar parameters, as well as potential limitations of our method in processing spectra with strong emission lines and bad pixels. In this study, we investigate the stability of the greybody factor of Hayward black holes by adding a small bump to the effective potential. Considering the greybody factor is a function of frequency, we define the so-called $\mathcal{G}$-factor and $\mathcal{H}$-factor to quantitatively characterize its stability. We study the stability of the greybody factor within the equal amplitude method and the equal energy method, respectively. Here, the equal amplitude method can be directly imposed by fixing the amplitude of the bump, while the equal energy method requires a physical definition of the energy of the bump with the assistance of hyperboloidal framework. For both the equal amplitude method and the equal energy method, when the location of the bump is close to the event horizon of the black hole, and the closer it is to the peak of original potential, the larger are $\mathcal{G}$-factor and $\mathcal{H}$-factor, and they are bounded by the magnitude of the amplitude or the energy. More importantly, for the equal amplitude method, two factors tend to a specific value as the location of the bump increases. In contrast, for the equal energy method, two factors converge to zero as the location of the bump increases. Notably, the $\mathcal{G}$-factor and the $\mathcal{H}$-factor are insensitive to the regular parameter of Hayward black hole. Owing to their rapid cooling rate and hence loss-limited propagation distance, cosmic-ray electrons and positrons (CRe) at very high energies probe local cosmic-ray accelerators and provide constraints on exotic production mechanisms such as annihilation of dark matter particles. We present a high-statistics measurement of the spectrum of CRe candidate events from 0.3 to 40 TeV with the High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.), covering two orders of magnitude in energy and reaching a proton rejection power of better than $10^{4}$. Data is the new oil of the 21st century. The growing trend of trading data for greater welfare has led to the emergence of data markets. A data market is any mechanism whereby the exchange of data products including datasets and data derivatives takes place as a result of data buyers and data sellers being in contact with one another, either directly or through mediating agents. It serves as a coordinating mechanism by which several functions, including the pricing and the distribution of data as the most important ones, interact to make the value of data fully exploited and enhanced. In this article, we present a comprehensive survey of this important and emerging direction from the aspects of data search, data productization, data transaction, data pricing, revenue allocation as well as privacy, security, and trust issues. We also investigate the government policies and industry status of data markets across different countries and different domains. Finally, we identify the unresolved challenges and discuss possible future directions for the development of data markets.

We present high pressure electrical transport, magnetization, and single crystal X-ray diffraction data on SrCo2P2 single crystals. X-ray diffraction data show that there is a transition to a collapsed tetragonal structure for p ~> 10 GPa and measurements of resistance show that above ~ 10 GPa, a clear transition-like feature can be observed at temperatures up to 260 K. Further magnetization, magnetoresistance and Hall measurements made under pressure all indicate that this transition is to a ferromagnetic ground state. First principles-based density functional theory (DFT) calculations also show that there is a first-order transition between tetragonal and collapsed tetragonal (cT) phases, with an onset near ~ 10 GPa as well as the appearance of the ferromagnetic (FM) ordering in the cT phase. Above ~ 30 GPa, the experimental signatures of the magnetic ordering vanish in a first-order-like manner, consistent with the theoretical calculation results, indicating that SrCo2P2 is another example of the avoidance of quantum criticality in ferromagnetic intermetallic compounds. Complex systems, such as economic, social, biological, and ecological systems, usually feature interactions not only between pairwise entities but also among three or more entities. These multi-entity interactions are known as higher-order interactions. Hypergraph, as a mathematical tool, can effectively characterize higher-order interactions, where nodes denote entities and hyperedges represent interactions among multiple entities. Meanwhile, all higher-order interactions can also be projected into a number of lower-order interactions or even some pairwise interactions. Whether it is necessary to consider all higher-order interactions, and whether it is with little loss to replace them by lower-order or even pairwise interactions, remain a controversial issue. If the role of higher-order interactions is insignificant, the complexity of computation and the difficulty of analysis can be drastically reduced by projecting higher-order interactions into lower-order or pairwise interactions. We use link prediction, a fundamental problem in network science, as the entry point. Specifically, we evaluate the impact of higher-order interactions on link predictive accuracy to explore the necessity of these structures. We propose a method to decompose the higher-order structures in a stepwise way, thereby allowing to systematically explore the impacts of structures at different orders on link prediction. The results indicate that in some networks, incorporating higher-order interactions significantly enhances the accuracy of link prediction, while in others, the effect is insignificant. Therefore, we think that the role of higher-order interactions varies in different types of networks. Software vulnerabilities are flaws in computer software systems that pose significant threats to the integrity, security, and reliability of modern software and its application data. These vulnerabilities can lead to substantial economic losses across various industries. Manual vulnerability repair is not only time-consuming but also prone to errors. To address the challenges of vulnerability repair, researchers have proposed various solutions, with learning-based automatic vulnerability repair techniques gaining widespread attention. However, existing methods often focus on learning more vulnerability data to improve repair outcomes, while neglecting the diverse characteristics of vulnerable code, and suffer from imprecise vulnerability localization.To address these shortcomings, this paper proposes CRepair, a CVAE-based automatic vulnerability repair technology aimed at fixing security vulnerabilities in system code. We first preprocess the vulnerability data using a prompt-based method to serve as input to the model. Then, we apply causal inference techniques to map the vulnerability feature data to probability distributions. By employing multi-sample feature fusion, we capture diverse vulnerability feature information. Finally, conditional control is used to guide the model in repairing the vulnerabilities.Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method significantly outperforms other benchmark models, achieving a perfect repair rate of 52%. The effectiveness of the approach is validated from multiple perspectives, advancing AI-driven code vulnerability repair and showing promising applications.

In submodular multiway partition (SUB-MP), the input is a non-negative submodular function $f:2^V \rightarrow \mathbb{R}_{\ge 0}$ given by an evaluation oracle along with $k$ terminals $t_1, t_2, \ldots, t_k\in V$. The goal is to find a partition $V_1, V_2, \ldots, V_k$ of $V$ with $t_i\in V_i$ for every $i\in [k]$ in order to minimize $\sum_{i=1}^k f(V_i)$. In this work, we focus on SUB-MP when the input function is monotone (termed MONO-SUB-MP). MONO-SUB-MP formulates partitioning problems over several interesting structures -- e.g., matrices, matroids, graphs, and hypergraphs. MONO-SUB-MP is NP-hard since the graph multiway cut problem can be cast as a special case. We investigate the approximability of MONO-SUB-MP: we show that it admits a $4/3$-approximation and does not admit a $(10/9-\epsilon)$-approximation for every constant $\epsilon>0$. Next, we study a special case of MONO-SUB-MP where the monotone submodular function of interest is the coverage function of an input graph, termed GRAPH-COVERAGE-MP. GRAPH-COVERAGE-MP is equivalent to the classic multiway cut problem for the purposes of exact optimization. We show that GRAPH-COVERAGE-MP admits a $1.125$-approximation and does not admit a $(1.00074-\epsilon)$-approximation for every constant $\epsilon>0$ assuming the Unique Games Conjecture. These results separate GRAPH-COVERAGE-MP from graph multiway cut in terms of approximability.

Ultrasound (US) imaging is widely used in routine clinical practice due to its advantages of being radiation-free, cost-effective, and portable. However, the low reproducibility and quality of US images, combined with the scarcity of expert-level annotation, make the training of fully supervised segmentation models challenging. To address these issues, we propose a novel unsupervised anomaly detection framework based on a diffusion model that incorporates a synthetic anomaly (Synomaly) noise function and a multi-stage diffusion process. Synomaly noise introduces synthetic anomalies into healthy images during training, allowing the model to effectively learn anomaly removal. The multi-stage diffusion process is introduced to progressively denoise images, preserving fine details while improving the quality of anomaly-free reconstructions. The generated high-fidelity counterfactual healthy images can further enhance the interpretability of the segmentation models, as well as provide a reliable baseline for evaluating the extent of anomalies and supporting clinical decision-making. Notably, the unsupervised anomaly detection model is trained purely on healthy images, eliminating the need for anomalous training samples and pixel-level annotations. We validate the proposed approach on carotid US, brain MRI, and liver CT datasets. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed framework outperforms existing state-of-the-art unsupervised anomaly detection methods, achieving performance comparable to fully supervised segmentation models in the US dataset. Additionally, ablation studies underline the importance of hyperparameter selection for Synomaly noise and the effectiveness of the multi-stage diffusion process in enhancing model performance.

Traditional interactive environments limit agents' intelligence growth with fixed tasks. Recently, single-agent environments address this by generating new tasks based on agent actions, enhancing task diversity. We consider the decision-making problem in multi-agent settings, where tasks are further influenced by social connections, affecting rewards and information access. However, existing multi-agent environments lack a combination of adaptive physical surroundings and social connections, hindering the learning of intelligent behaviors. To address this, we introduce AdaSociety, a customizable multi-agent environment featuring expanding state and action spaces, alongside explicit and alterable social structures. As agents progress, the environment adaptively generates new tasks with social structures for agents to undertake. In AdaSociety, we develop three mini-games showcasing distinct social structures and tasks. Initial results demonstrate that specific social structures can promote both individual and collective benefits, though current reinforcement learning and LLM-based algorithms show limited effectiveness in leveraging social structures to enhance performance. Overall, AdaSociety serves as a valuable research platform for exploring intelligence in diverse physical and social settings. Remote sensing has evolved from simple image acquisition to complex systems capable of integrating and processing visual and textual data. This review examines the development and application of multi-modal language models (MLLMs) in remote sensing, focusing on their ability to interpret and describe satellite imagery using natural language. We cover the technical underpinnings of MLLMs, including dual-encoder architectures, Transformer models, self-supervised and contrastive learning, and cross-modal integration. The unique challenges of remote sensing data--varying spatial resolutions, spectral richness, and temporal changes--are analyzed for their impact on MLLM performance. Key applications such as scene description, object detection, change detection, text-to-image retrieval, image-to-text generation, and visual question answering are discussed to demonstrate their relevance in environmental monitoring, urban planning, and disaster response. We review significant datasets and resources supporting the training and evaluation of these models. Challenges related to computational demands, scalability, data quality, and domain adaptation are highlighted. A dynamic treatment regime is a sequence of medical decisions that adapts to the evolving clinical status of a patient over time. To facilitate personalized care, it is crucial to assess the probability of each available treatment option being optimal for a specific patient, while also identifying the key prognostic factors that determine the optimal sequence of treatments. This task has become increasingly challenging due to the growing number of individual prognostic factors typically available. In response to these challenges, we propose a Bayesian model for optimizing dynamic treatment regimes that addresses the uncertainty in identifying optimal decision sequences and incorporates dimensionality reduction to manage high-dimensional individual covariates. The first task is achieved through a suitable augmentation of the model to handle counterfactual variables. For the second, we introduce a novel class of spike-and-slab priors for the multi-stage selection of significant factors, to favor the sharing of information across stages. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated through extensive simulation studies and illustrated using clinical trial data on severe acute arterial hypertension.

LLMs have demonstrated impressive proficiency in generating coherent and high-quality text, making them valuable across a range of text-generation tasks. However, rigorous evaluation of this generated content is crucial, as ensuring its quality remains a significant challenge due to persistent issues such as factual inaccuracies and hallucinations. This paper introduces two fine-tuned general-purpose LLM autoevaluators, REC-12B and REC-70B, specifically designed to evaluate generated text across several dimensions: faithfulness, instruction following, coherence, and completeness. These models not only provide ratings for these metrics but also offer detailed explanations and verifiable citations, thereby enhancing trust in the content. Moreover, the models support various citation modes, accommodating different requirements for latency and granularity. Extensive evaluations on diverse benchmarks demonstrate that our general-purpose LLM auto-evaluator, REC-70B, outperforms state-of-the-art LLMs, excelling in content evaluation by delivering better quality explanations and citations with minimal bias. It achieves Rank \#1 as a generative model on the RewardBench leaderboard\footnote{\url{https://huggingface.co/spaces/allenai/reward-bench}} under the model name \texttt{TextEval-Llama3.1-70B}. Aside from regular beamline experiments at light sources, the preparation steps before these experiments are also worth systematic consideration in terms of automation; a representative category in these steps is attitude tuning, which typically appears in names like beam focusing, sample alignment etc. With the goal of saving time and manpower in both writing and using in mind, a Mamba-based attitude-tuning framework is created. It supports flexible input/output ports, easy integration of diverse evaluation functions, and free selection of optimisation algorithms; with the help from Mamba's infrastructure, machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies can also be readily integrated. The tuning of a polycapillary lens and of an X-ray emission spectrometer are given as examples for the general use of this framework, featuring powerful command-line interfaces (CLIs) and friendly graphical user interfaces (GUIs) that allow comfortable human-in-the-loop control. The tuning of a Raman spectrometer demonstrates more specialised use of the framework with customised optimisation algorithms. With similar applications in mind, our framework is estimated to be capable of fulfilling a majority of attitude-tuning needs. Architectural deficiencies in EPICS lead to inefficiency in the development and application of EPICS input/output controllers (IOCs). An unintrusive solution is replacing EPICS IOCs with more maintainable and flexible Python IOCs, only reusing the Channel Access (CA) protocol of EPICS. After a digression about GUI development inspired by EPICS operator interfaces (OPIs), the structural similarity between standalone GUI backends, the Mamba backend, EPICS IOCs and other server programs is analysed. By combining the caproto library and event loops like those in these server programs, the QueueIOC framework for Python IOCs is created, which has the potential to systematically replace most EPICS IOCs currently used. Examples are first given for workalikes of StreamDevice and asyn; examples for seq-like applications include monochromators, motor anti-bumping and motor multiplexing. For high dimensional sparse linear regression problems, we propose a sequential convex relaxation algorithm (iSCRA-TL1) by solving inexactly a sequence of truncated $\ell_1$-norm regularized minimization problems, in which the working index sets are constructed iteratively with an adaptive strategy. We employ the robust restricted null space property and sequential restricted null space property (rRNSP and rSRNSP) to provide the theoretical certificates of iSCRA-TL1. Specifically, under a mild rRNSP or rSRNSP, iSCRA-TL1 is shown to identify the support of the true $r$-sparse vector by solving at most $r$ truncated $\ell_1$-norm regularized problems, and the $\ell_1$-norm error bound of its iterates from the oracle solution is also established. As a consequence, an oracle estimator of high-dimensional linear regression problems can be achieved by solving at most $r\!+\!1$ truncated $\ell_1$-norm regularized problems. Open rule refer to the implication from premise atoms to hypothesis atoms, which captures various relations between instances in the real world. Injecting open rule knowledge into the machine helps to improve the performance of downstream tasks such as dialogue and relation extraction. Existing approaches focus on single-hop open rule generation, ignoring multi-hop scenarios, leading to logical inconsistencies between premise and hypothesis atoms, as well as semantic duplication of generated rule atoms. To address these issues, we propose a progressive multi-stage open rule generation method called PRIMO. We introduce ontology information during the rule generation stage to reduce ambiguity and improve rule accuracy. PRIMO constructs a multi-stage structure consisting of generation, extraction, and ranking modules to fully leverage the latent knowledge within the language model across multiple dimensions. Furthermore, we employ reinforcement learning from human feedback to further optimize model, enhancing the model's understanding of commonsense knowledge. In the context of firefighting and rescue operations, a cross-modal semantic segmentation model based on a single-chip millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar for indoor environmental perception is proposed and discussed. To efficiently obtain high-quality labels, an automatic label generation method utilizing LiDAR point clouds and occupancy grid maps is introduced. The proposed segmentation model is based on U-Net. A spatial attention module is incorporated, which enhanced the performance of the mode. The results demonstrate that cross-modal semantic segmentation provides a more intuitive and accurate representation of indoor environments. Unlike traditional methods, the model's segmentation performance is minimally affected by azimuth. Although performance declines with increasing distance, this can be mitigated by a well-designed model. Recent development in Artificial Intelligence (AI) models has propelled their application in scientific discovery, but the validation and exploration of these discoveries require subsequent empirical experimentation. The concept of self-driving laboratories promises to automate and thus boost the experimental process following AI-driven discoveries. However, the transition of experimental protocols, originally crafted for human comprehension, into formats interpretable by machines presents significant challenges, which, within the context of specific expert domain, encompass the necessity for structured as opposed to natural language, the imperative for explicit rather than tacit knowledge, and the preservation of causality and consistency throughout protocol steps. Presently, the task of protocol translation predominantly requires the manual and labor-intensive involvement of domain experts and information technology specialists, rendering the process time-intensive. To address these issues, we propose a framework that automates the protocol translation process through a three-stage workflow, which incrementally constructs Protocol Dependence Graphs (PDGs) that approach structured on the syntax level, completed on the semantics level, and linked on the execution level. Despite ongoing efforts to defend neural classifiers from adversarial attacks, they remain vulnerable, especially to unseen attacks. In contrast, humans are difficult to be cheated by subtle manipulations, since we make judgments only based on essential factors. Inspired by this observation, we attempt to model label generation with essential label-causative factors and incorporate label-non-causative factors to assist data generation. For an adversarial example, we aim to discriminate the perturbations as non-causative factors and make predictions only based on the label-causative factors. Concretely, we propose a casual diffusion model (CausalDiff) that adapts diffusion models for conditional data generation and disentangles the two types of casual factors by learning towards a novel casual information bottleneck objective. Empirically, CausalDiff has significantly outperformed state-of-the-art defense methods on various unseen attacks, achieving an average robustness of 86.39% (+4.01%) on CIFAR-10, 56.25% (+3.13%) on CIFAR-100, and 82.62% (+4.93%) on GTSRB (German Traffic Sign Recognition Benchmark). OT 081 is a well-known, luminous blazar that is remarkably variable in many energy bands. We present the first broadband study of the source which includes very-high-energy (VHE, $E>$100\,GeV) $\gamma$-ray data taken by the MAGIC and H.E.S.S. imaging Cherenkov telescopes. The discovery of VHE $\gamma$-ray emission happened during a high state of $\gamma$-ray activity in July 2016, observed by many instruments from radio to VHE $\gamma$-rays. We identify four states of activity of the source, one of which includes VHE $\gamma$-ray emission. Variability in the VHE domain is found on daily timescales. The intrinsic VHE spectrum can be described by a power-law with index $3.27\pm0.44_{\rm stat}\pm0.15_{\rm sys}$ (MAGIC) and $3.39\pm0.58_{\rm stat}\pm0.64_{\rm sys}$ (H.E.S.S.) in the energy range of 55--300\,GeV and 120--500\,GeV, respectively. The broadband emission cannot be sucessfully reproduced by a simple one-zone synchrotron self-Compton model. Instead, an additional external Compton component is required. We test a lepto-hadronic model that reproduces the dataset well and a proton-synchrotron dominated model that requires an extreme proton luminosity. Emission models that are able to successfully represent the data place the emitting region well outside of the Broad Line Region (BLR) to a location at which the radiative environment is dominated by the infrared thermal radiation field of the dusty torus. In the scenario described by this flaring activity, the source appears to be an FSRQ, in contrast with past categorizations. Galaxy interactions can significantly affect the star formation in galaxies, but it remains a challenge to achieve a consensus on the star formation rate (SFR) enhancement in galaxy pairs. Here, we investigate the SFR enhancement of gas-rich galaxy pairs detected by the Widefield ASKAP L-band Legacy All-sky Blind surveY (WALLABY). We construct a sample of 278 paired galaxies spanning a stellar mass ($M_\ast$) range from $10^{7.6}$ to $10^{11.2}M_\odot$. We obtain individual masses of atomic hydrogen (HI) for these paired galaxies, using a novel deblending algorithm for HI data cubes. Quantifying the interaction stages and strengths with parameters motivated by first principles, we find that at fixed stellar and HI mass, the alteration in SFR of galaxy pairs starts when their dark matter halos encounter. For galaxies with stellar mass lower than $10^9M_\odot$, their SFRs show tentative suppression of 1.4 sigma after the halo encounter, and then become enhanced when their HI disks overlap, regardless of mass ratios. In contrast, the SFRs of galaxies with $M_\ast > 10^9M_\odot$ increase monotonically toward smaller projected distances and radial velocity offsets. When a close companion is present, a pronounced SFR enhancement is found for the most HI-poor high-mass galaxies in our sample. Collecting the observational evidence, we provide a coherent picture of the evolution of galaxy pairs, and discuss how the tidal effects and hydrodynamic processes shape the SFR enhancement. By pretraining on trillions of tokens, an LLM gains the capability of text generation. However, to enhance its utility and reduce potential harm, SFT and alignment are applied sequentially to the pretrained model. Due to the differing nature and objective functions of SFT and alignment, catastrophic forgetting has become a significant issue. To address this, we introduce Unified Fine-Tuning (UFT), which integrates SFT and alignment into a single training stage using the same objective and loss functions through an implicit reward function. Our experimental results demonstrate that UFT outperforms SFT on instruction-tuning data alone. Moreover, when combining instruction-tuning data with alignment data, UFT effectively prevents catastrophic forgetting across these two stages and shows a clear advantage over sequentially applying SFT and alignment. This is evident in the significant improvements observed in the \textbf{ifeval} task for instruction-following and the \textbf{truthful-qa} task for factuality. The proposed general fine-tuning framework UFT establishes an effective and efficient pretraining-UFT paradigm for LLM training.

This paper presents a comprehensive survey of various benchmark datasets employed in medical LLM tasks. These datasets span multiple modalities including text, image, and multimodal benchmarks, focusing on different aspects of medical knowledge such as electronic health records (EHRs), doctor-patient dialogues, medical question-answering, and medical image captioning. The survey categorizes the datasets by modality, discussing their significance, data structure, and impact on the development of LLMs for clinical tasks such as diagnosis, report generation, and predictive decision support. Key benchmarks include MIMIC-III, MIMIC-IV, BioASQ, PubMedQA, and CheXpert, which have facilitated advancements in tasks like medical report generation, clinical summarization, and synthetic data generation. The paper summarizes the challenges and opportunities in leveraging these benchmarks for advancing multimodal medical intelligence, emphasizing the need for datasets with a greater degree of language diversity, structured omics data, and innovative approaches to synthesis.
