Background: There are many risk factors for the development of delirium. According to the definition given by Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, delirium is defined as “disturbances in attention and awareness over a short period of time, representations of changes from baseline attention, and awareness with a tendency to fluctuate over a period of time.” Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of risk factors among patients of delirium in a tertiary care hospital. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among patients of delirium in a tertiary care hospital of the city of Ahmedabad using the Confusional Assessment Method-Severity scale and sociodemographic questionnaire. A total of 100 patients were recruited in the study. The analysis was done using Microsoft Excel 2019. Results: In the study, we found that the majority of patients of delirium were of age >65 years, males, suffering from cerebrovascular illness, and having dementia. It was reported from the study that the majority patients of delirium were admitted to the intensive care unit and having a prolonged hospital stay. Conclusions: Identification of risk factors and early intervention can have better outcomes in patients suffering from delirium and lead to better prognosis.

Organic brain disorders (OBD) may present with multiple psychiatric symptoms which may mimic as primary psychiatric disorder. We present three cases such as astrocytoma, cerebellar cyst, and hypothalamic hamartoma presented to our psychiatric outpatient department with psychotic, manic, and headache symptoms with no physical neurological signs and symptoms. Treatment resistance and relapse motivated us for seeking neuroimaging that subsequently revealed space occupying lesions. Some patients with neurologically silent OBD may present with psychiatric symptoms only. Therefore, we should consider of neuroimaging in patients with a change in mental status regardless of a lack of neurological symptoms.

Kleine–Levin syndrome (KLS), also known as sleeping beauty syndrome, is a rare disorder with unknown etiology. The syndrome is characterized by hypersomnolence and may be associated with hypersexuality, hyperphagia and cognitive or mood changes. Fever, head trauma and stress may be the precipitating factors. The case here is a 15-year-old male patient who presented with excessive sleepiness, hypersexual behavior, excessive food intake and mood changes. These symptoms started after becoming afebrile from high-grade fever. Multiple investigations done were within normal limits. He did not respond to valproate, olanzapine and lorazepam. Spontaneous remission and reemergence of symptoms after 2 weeks were noted. By clinical history, normal investigations and exclusion of other mental and medical disorders, he was diagnosed to have KLS. Reviewing literature, lithium therapy was found to be beneficial in KLS. Hence, lithium was given in this patient to which he responded well.

Abstract Introduction: Sexuality is one of the most basic human experiences. But in India, there are many myths and misconceptions about sexuality. Poor sex knowledge causes many of these problems. Liberal attitude without adequate knowledge is harmful. As a future frontier of health care, medical interns play an important role to improve knowledge and attitude. But, in India, very few students can communicate about sexuality, and friends and pornographic materials remain as common sources of sex knowledge, which are unreliable. Aims: To asses sex knowledge and attitude among medical interns and find its correlation with sociodemographic details. Materials and Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 60 interns using a Sex Knowledge and Attitude Questionnaire II (SKAQ II). Data was analyzed by MS Excel for Windows. P < .05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Mean age of interns was 22 ± 0.89 yrs. Mean score of sex knowledge of males was 25.47 ± 4.44, whereas that of females was 24.88 ± 4.77. Females had more knowledge of menstrual cycle and conception. Males had better knowledge regarding sexual acts in adolescence and its effects on marriage life. Sex knowledge and attitude were moderately correlated. Males had a liberal attitude, especially about abortion and masturbation. Conclusion: The result revealed a need to improve sex knowledge and attitude among medical interns through sex education and adding sex education sessions in the teaching curriculum. Better knowledge and positive attitudes toward sex will be beneficial to the interns and the whole society.
