Summary: Microalgae, the photosynthetic microorganisms, open novel commercial opportunities for developing new products because of their abundance in protein, carbohydrates, pigments, vitamins and minerals. These microorganisms possess several advantages such as rapid growth, minimal land and water requirements and adaptability to various environmental conditions. As concerns arise regarding the ability of animal and plant‐based sources to meet future protein demands, researchers have turned their attention to microalgae like Spirulina and Chlorella for various applications. Microalgae typically contain around 30% protein and in case of few cyanobacteria it can reach up to 55%–60%, surpassing the protein content of conventional sources. Numerous studies have investigated the utilisation of algal biomass to enhance the protein content of a wide range of food products, including cookies, bread, yoghurt, snacks, dairy alternatives and soups. The relationship between visual sustained attention-discrimination and goal-directed search was evaluated using a visual discrimination and exploration (goal-directed search) paradigm and urinary excretion of catecholaminergic metabolites [dopamine (DA) and norepinephrine (NE)] in 6-12 year-old children (n=31) strictly selected and diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) using diagnostic criteria and other objective indices. The Structured Clinical Interview (SCID) (DSM-IV) was used to formally diagnose ADHD in children. A cognitive laboratory test was used to assess visual sustained attention-discrimination and goal-directed search (Children Color Trails Test 1 and 2). Urinary excretion of DA and NE metabolites was measured via reversed high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC). Pearson product-moment correlations were used to investigate the relationship between visual sustained attention and goal-directed search and urinary catecholamine metabolites of DA and NE. The present findings revealed a positive and moderately significant relationship between visual sustained attention and visual exploration and catecholaminergic metabolite levels of NE and DA, according to expectation. Decreased visual sustained attention and goal-directed search was associated with decreased DA and NE metabolite levels. The present results are consistent with past research with children with ADHD and studies with primates examining the intricate and respective interaction between the Locus Coeruleus and visual sustained attention-discrimination and the Ventral Tegmental Area and goal-directed search (visual exploration) respectively modulated through NE and DA. Applied and theoretical issues associated with the present findings also are discussed addressing recent computer-generated analogues of action selection models within the context of the extant findings. Leaf and hypocotyl explants of 15 days old aseptically grown seedlings of Solanum laciniatum were cultured on MS medium supplemented with NAA (2 mg/l) and kinetin (0.5 mg/l) for callus initiation. For maintenance and proliferation of callus MS medium supplemented with 2,4-D (1 mg/l) and kinetin (0.5 mg/l) was used. The growth of the calli derived from hypocotyls increased with time of incubation and remained almost constant after 45 days. The solasodine content in callus culture was maximum after 30 days of incubation. Addition of L-arginine in the medium (50-150 mg/l) increased growth as well as chlorophyll content in the callus culture. The solasodine content also increased up to 1.2 to 1.4 times in these cultures. High frequency shoot regeneration was obtained in MS medium having BA (4 mg/l) and IBA (0.25 mg/l). For shoot multiplication, MS medium having BA (4 mg/l) was used. Shoots rooted on the same medium. Organogenesis promoted solasodine accumulation in the cultures. Regenerated shoots yielded higher solasodine content than undifferentiated as well as organogenic callus. Solasodine contents in the regenerated shoots was found to be 10 times higher than the callus culture and approached towards the field grown plants. Thin layer chromatography revealed the presence of three compounds. The most predominant spot (Rf 0.789) corresponded to the reference solasodine.
