Abstract

The dynamics of strongly interacting particles are governed by Yang-Mills (Y-M) theory, which is a natural generalization of Maxwell Electrodynamics (ED). Its quantized version is known as quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and has been very well studied. Classical Y-M theory is proving to be equally interesting because of the central role it plays in describing the physics of quark-gluon plasma (QGP)-which was prevalent in the early universe and is also produced in relativistic heavy ion collision experiments. This calls for a systematic study of classical Y-M theories. A good insight into classical Y-M dynamics would be best obtained by comparing and contrasting the Y-M results with their ED counterparts. In this article, a beginning has been made by considering streaming instabilities in Y-M fluids. We find that in addition to analogues of ED instabilities, novel nonabelian modes arise, reflecting the inherent nonabelian nature of the interaction. The new modes exhibit propagation/ growth, with growth rates that can be larger than what we find in ED. 26. Cutaneous invasive fungal infections in pediatric hematological malignancies: A case series and review of literature

Abstract

Background: Cutaneous invasive fungal infections are a highly feared complication of cancer chemotherapy in children. The increased risk for these infections is often attributed to the profound immunosuppression and neutropenia resulting from intensive chemotherapy. Common pathogens include Zygomycetes, Aspergillus, and Candida species, each showing a wide array of clinical manifestations. Case report: We describe an outbreak of four cases of cutaneous invasive fungal infections in children undergoing induction chemotherapy for hematological malignancies from a pediatric hematology and oncology unit in India. Aspergillus and Zygomycetes infections and their varying clinical manifestations, along with diagnostic and treatment challenges, are highlighted. Iatrogenic skin breach and neutropenia were common risk factors observed in all four cases. Conclusion: Prompt microbiological diagnosis, early initiation of antifungals, and effective local control measures are essential to obtain improved outcomes. Mortality and morbidity rates continue to remain high despite numerous antifungal agents.

Abstract

Introduction: A poison is a substance that causes serious illness and endangers the life of a person when ingested in a relatively small quantity. Poisoning is one of the most common problems encountered in day-to-day clinical practice. Poisoning causes morbidity and mortality which can be prevented and managed if clinicians are sensitized with adequate knowledge of common poisons. Therefore, this study was conducted to know the profile of acute poisoning cases admitted in a tertiary care hospital in Mangaluru. Materials and Methods: 100 patients admitted in the intensive care units and wards of the General Medicine department, Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru, and Government Wenlock District Hospital, Mangaluru with various poisoning were evaluated for various factors like the distribution of poisoning cases according to age, gender, intention of poisoning, nature of poisons consumed and the nature of treatment received at another hospital before getting admitted. Results: Most of the cases of poisoning occurred in the age group between 21-30 years of age (38%). The majority of the patients in the study were males (60%) and females formed 40% of the study population. The majority of patients in this study (99%) consumed poison with suicidal intention. 77% of patients received first-aid treatment in a peripheral hospital before getting admitted to our hospital. Conclusion: This study shows that the peak incidence of acute poisoning cases was seen in the age group of 21 to 30 years with male predominance. The pattern of poisoning was suicidal in the majority of the patients.

Abstract

Let GX be a graph obtained from a simple graph G by attaching a self-loop at each vertex of [Formula: see text]. The general extended adjacency matrix for the graph GX is defined and the bounds for the degree based energy of the graph GX are obtained. The study extends the notion of degree based energy of simple graphs to graphs with self-loops. For the graph GX of order n and size m with σ self-loops, the adjacency energy, [Formula: see text]. The spectral radius [Formula: see text] of its adjacency matrix is always less than or equal to [Formula: see text], where Δ is the maximum degree in the graph GX and the equality conditions are given for [Formula: see text]. Few more bounds for [Formula: see text] are also obtained. The study shows that, the spectral radius [Formula: see text] of its extended adjacency matrix satisfies: [Formula: see text]. We conclude the article by computing the extended adjacency spectrum of complete graph and complete bipartite graphs with self-loops.
