Abstract

We show that the density of quadratic forms in $n$ variables over $\mathbb Z_p$ that are isotropic is a rational function of $p$, where the rational function is independent of $p$, and we determine this rational function explicitly. When real quadratic forms in $n$ variables are distributed according to the Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble (GOE) of random matrix theory, we determine explicitly the probability that a random such real quadratic form is isotropic (i.e., indefinite). As a consequence, for each $n$, we determine an exact expression for the probability that a random integral quadratic form in $n$ variables is isotropic (i.e., has a nontrivial zero over $\mathbb Z$), when these integral quadratic forms are chosen according to the GOE distribution. In particular, we find an exact expression for the probability that a random integral quaternary quadratic form has an integral zero; numerically, this probability is approximately $98.3\%$., Comment: 17 pages. Abstract

The study was conducted on twelve clinical cases of goats having long bone fracture randomly divided into two groups. In group I the fracture segment was immobilized by dynamic compression plate whereas, in group II after immobilization with dynamic compression plate mesenchymal stem cells were transplanted at fracture site. Exudates and pain at fracture site revealed a decreasing trend in both the groups from 7th to 15th post - operative day. A significant increase in weight bearing was observed from 7th post-operative day in both the groups of goat. Radiographic interpretation at different interval revealed early periosteal reaction, formation of soft and hard callus and initiation of remodeling in group II as compared to group I, The values of alkaline phosphatase increased non-significantly in all groups of goat up to 15th post-operative day, with maximum value at this interval. After reaching its maximum values, a decline in the values was observed in both the groups.

Abstract

The study was conducted on 19 adult dogs referred for treatment of fracture in diaphyseal region of three long bones, viz, radius-ulna, femur and tibia-fibula. These dogs were divided randomly into three groups viz T1, T2 and T3. In group T1, the diaphyseal fractures of the long bones were immobilized by an internal fixation technique using reconstruction plate or locking compression plate. In group T2, β-tri calcium phosphate granules were incorporated at fracture site after fixation. In group T3, one milliliter of PRP was administered locally at fracture site just before the closing the first suture line. Clinical and radiographic examination were also conducted during the study. There was a significant reduction in mean inflammation score at 7th day in groups T2 and T3 and at 30th day than 0 day in all the groups. At 90th day, the mean radiographic score was highest for group T3 and it was followed by the score in group T2. At day 90th, a radiograph in both the views was not able to delineate the granules from osseous tissue. The mean weight bearing score was also higher in group T3 than in group T2 at 30th, 60th and 90th post operative day showing that restoration of the function was better and earlier in groups T2 and T3 than in group T1.

38. Systemic Factors Associated with Treatment Response in Diabetic Macular Edema.

Abstract

PURPOSE: To identify systemic factors that may influence the response to anti-VEGF therapy in patients with diabetic macular edema (DME). METHODS: 35 patients undergoing anti-VEGF injections for centre-involving DME were studied in this prospective observational study. The primary outcome was change in macular thickness one month after treatment, measured using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT). At baseline, information on various systemic factors was collected including glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), serum VEGF levels, lipid profile and markers of renal function, and blood pressure. Thirty-three of the 35 patients were included in this study. Nonparametric statistical tests were used for the analysis of the data in view of the nonnormal distribution of the outcome variables. Multivariate analysis was performed using logistic regression. Stata 12.1 software was used for the analysis. Main Outcome Measures. Reduction in macular central subfield thickness (on spectral-domain OCT) and change in logMAR visual acuity at one month after injection. RESULTS: Lower HbA1c levels (7% or less) were significantly associated with greater reduction in central macular subfield thickness at one month after injection of bevacizumab or ranibizumab on both univariate analysis (p=0.012) and multivariate analysis (p=0.012) and multivariate analysis (. CONCLUSIONS: Better glycemic control is associated with a greater reduction in central macular thickness after the first injection of bevacizumab or ranibizumab in diabetic macular edema. Patients with high levels of HbA1c and poor response to anti-VEGF may benefit from strict control of their blood glucose.
