This study was developed to assess the knowledge of rural producers about neonatal bovine diarrhea, with a focus on its control and prevention. An interview was conducted with 50 rural producers in the Microregion of Jales, São Paulo, Brazil, who carry out beef and dairy cattle activities. Data were tabulated and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Most of the interviewed producers were male, married, with a high level of education and aged over 40 years. Ten percent of beef cattle farms and 60% of dairy farms used supplementation with feed and silage for calves. Sixty percent of beef farms and 97.5% of dairy farms had no maternity paddocks. Birth rate in the year 2020 was 80.6% on beef farms and 82.7% on dairy farms. Disease morbidity varied, reaching 40% of calves in dairy herds and 20% in beef herds. Finally, lethality rate ranged from 5.9% to 100% in beef herds and from 22.2% to 100% in dairy herds. This study allowed us to conclude that neonatal diarrhea had a high lethality rate on the analyzed farms, and the mortality and morbidity rates were higher on the dairy farms. Producers showed deficiencies regarding measures to control, prevent and treat the condition, warranting the implementation of effective educational measures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
