Objective: to evaluate the effect of oral cryotherapy compared to physiological serum on the development of oral mucositis in outpatient cancer patients using the 5-fluorouracil antineoplastic agent. Method: this is a controlled, randomized, double-blind, and multi-center clinical trial, conducted with 60 patients undergoing chemotherapy. The experimental group (n=30) used oral cryotherapy during the infusion of the 5-FU antineoplastic agent, while the control group (n=30) performed mouthwash with physiological serum at their homes. The oral cavity of the participants was assessed at three times: before randomization, and on the 7th and 14th days after using 5-FU. For data analysis, descriptive analyses and the ANOVA, paired t, and McNemar tests were used. Results: there was no statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups in the assessments regarding the grade of mucositis. However, cryotherapy presented the chance to reduce the presence of intragroup mucositis, between the first and second assessments (p=0.000126). Objective: to analyze the evidence available in the literature about the lowest necessary dose of heparin to maintain the patency of the totally implanted central venous catheter in adult cancer patients. Method: an integrative literature review, carried out in the following databases: Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências de Saúde, Sciverse Scopus, Web of Science, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, including thirteen studies. Results: the evidence showed that the dose of heparin (300 IU/ml) is the most used in maintaining the patency of the totally implanted central venous catheter. Conclusion: according to the selected studies, the lowest dose of heparin found in maintaining the patency of the totally implanted central venous catheter in cancer patients was 10 UN/ml with a volume of 5 ml of the heparin solution. Objective: To know, with the adoption of the Jean Watson's Theory, the experience of the nursing professional in the development of care and relationship with institutionalized elderly. Method: Exploratory, descriptive and qualitative study, based on Watson's Theory of Human Caring, in which participated 24 employees from long-term institutions for the elderly, located in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Data were collected through interviews conducted from November/2012 to February/2013, examined by content analysis and categorization was in accordance with the adopted theoretical framework. Results: Pointed out that care was unveiled in the humanization of care and in the interpersonal relationship between nursing professionals and the elderly. Care anchored in nine of the 10 items of Clinical Caritas Processes and, despite reports expressing its principles, there was some lack of preparation front of the finitude/death. Conclusion: The professionals demonstrated knowing and using essential human elements in elderly care, as advocates Watson; however, they need to (re)construct ways to deal with the events of death. Objective: to evaluate the therapeutic effect of music on anxiety and vital parameters in patients with chronic kidney disease when compared to patients receiving conventional care in hemodialysis clinics. Method: randomized clinical trial conducted in three renal replacement therapy clinics. Sixty people with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis were randomly allocated to an experimental group and a control group, 30 persons per group). State anxiety was evaluated in both groups by the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. A t-test was used to verify the effect of the experimental manipulation on the variables. Results: we found a statistically significant difference between the groups regarding the degree of anxiety experienced during hemodialysis sessions. The experimental group presented a statistically significant reduction of anxiety scores (p = 0.03), systolic blood pressure (p < 0.002), diastolic blood pressure (p < 0.002), heart rate (p < 0.01) and respiratory rate (p < 0.006) after listening to music. Aim: To investigate anxiety in cancer patients hospitalized in the mediate postoperative period, through the Trait-State Anxiety Inventory, and the correlation between anxiety and malignant neoplasms of the head and neck, stomach, and colorectal. Method: This is a descriptive, quantitative and correlational study, performed in a hospital located in the state of Ceará. We used an analysis of variance, ANOVA-F test, to assess the existence of differences in the scores of the scales. Results: The participants were 80 patients with a mean age of 50.9 years; they were mostly men (53.8%) with head and neck cancer (40.0%). The level of anxiety state and trait was moderate, and anxiety-state was slightly higher than trait anxiety in the three groups. Participants with head and neck malignant neoplasm had higher average scores of the state anxiety and trait anxiety. Aim: To evaluate the quality of life of cancer patients using the device for antineoplastic continuous infusion. Method: This is a cross-sectional study conducted with 28 patients in a health insurance company of Fortaleza/ CE in 2013, by applying the life quality assessment tool of the World Health Organization (WHOQOL-BREF). Results: The domain most affected was health satisfaction, which was negative in both antineoplastic administration cycles, while the perception regarding quality of life was considered regular. The highest average domain was social relations; the lowest average was the psychological domain for both cycles. Conclusion: It is important to know the determinants that influence the quality of life of cancer patients, allowing the improvement of multidisciplinary interventions to increase adaptation to the experience of the disease. Aim: to evaluate the structure, development and functionality of families with more than one woman with breast malignancy and mastectomies. Method: this is a qualitative study involving the theoretical basis of structural, developmental and functional categories, as proposed by the Calgary model, and using case study as a methodological strategy. Data was collected through home visits with 10 families with mastectomized women, between August 2014 and February 2015.Results: conflicting subsystems were present in only two families and all presented with support network elements from systems other than family, including neighbors and health institutions. In the care process, the link established that support and frequent monitoring helped to ease some of the difficulties experienced. Conclusion: it is believed that the Calgary model enables a broader view of the family to be taken, better understanding in terms of internal and external relations, and enabled weaknesses and strengths to be balanced. Aims: To describe the presence and intensity of multiple symptoms in people with head and neck cancer, and the impact of these symptoms on daily life (by applying the MD Anderson Symptom Inventory/Head and Neck Module); to compare the anatomical location of the cancer and the type of treatment. Method: a descriptive, quantitative study, conducted in the clinic of a hospital in the state of Ceará. We used ANOVA to assess the existence of differences in the subscale scores. Results: In the scale, the general and specific symptoms were different (frequency: 4.99; p<0,01). In separate assessments, there were differences in the intensity of the symptoms. Discussion: it was found that the symptoms with regard to anatomical site showed significant differences between the group with cancer in the oral cavity and larynx, and the one with oral cavity and thyroid cancer. Conclusion: The influence of treatment was found in multiple symptoms. There were statistical differences between the group undergoing surgery combined with radiotherapy and the others. Aims: To evaluate the quality of life of people presenting nausea and vomiting induced by antineoplastic agents, and to correlate quality of life with the emetogenic potential of chemotherapeutic protocols and with the dimensioning of the antiemetic scheme. Method: This is a descriptive, quantitative study, performed in an onco-hematologic ward of a hospital located in the municipality of São Paulo, Brazil. The standard SF-36 questionnaire was used to evaluate the quality of life of the individuals, and another questionnaire was used to characterize the targeted population. Results: The largest number of the participants was female (70%), aged between 60 and 69 years old (33%), diagnosed with gynecological cancer (30%), and were following treatment protocols with moderate emetogenic potential (70%). Discussion: Commitment was observed in all evaluated domains of quality of life. There was no significant difference when compared to emetogenic potentials or antiemetic dimensioning.
