Laser ablation propulsion and orbit cleaning are developing areas of research. The general aim of laser-based techniques applied to this field is to maximize the momentum transfer produced by a laser shot. This work presents results from ballistic pendulum experiments under vacuum on aluminum, copper, tin, gold, and porous graphite targets. The work has focused on the metrology of the laser experiments to ensure good stability over a wide range of laser parameters (laser intensity ranging from 4 GW/cm 2 to 8.7 TW/cm 2 , pulse duration from 80 ps to 15 ns, and wavelengths of 528 or 1057 nm). The results presented compile data from three experimental campaigns spanning from 2018 to 2021 on two different laser platforms and using different pulse durations, energies, and wavelengths. The study is complemented by the simulation of the momentum from the mono-dimensional Lagrangian code ESTHER. The first part of this work gives a detailed description of the experimental setup used, the ESTHER code, and the treatment of the simulations. The second part focuses on the experimental results. The third part describes the simulation results and provides a comparison with the experimental data. The last part presents possible improvements for future work on the subject. Abstract Background Lymph node metastasis is an important prognostic factor in locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC). No imaging method can successfully detect all (micro)metastases. This may result in (lymph node) recurrence after chemoradiation. We hypothesized that lymphatic mapping could identify nodes at risk and if radiation treatment volumes are adapted based on the lymphatic map, (micro)metastases not shown on imaging could be treated. We investigated the feasibility of lymphatic mapping to image lymph nodes at risk for (micro)metastases in LACC and assessed the radiotherapy dose on the nodes at risk. Methods Patients with LACC were included between July 2020 and July 2022. Inclusion criteria were: ≥ 18 years old, intended curative chemoradiotherapy, investigation under anesthesia. Exclusion criteria were: pregnancy and extreme obesity. All patients underwent abdominal MRI, [18F]FDG-PET/CT and lymphatic mapping after administration of 6–8 depots of 99mTc]Tc-nanocolloid followed by planar and SPECT/CT images 2–4 and 24 h post-injection. Results Seventeen patients participated. In total, 40 nodes at risk were visualized on the lymphatic map in 13/17 patients with a median of two [range 0–7, IQR 0.5–3] nodes per patient, with unilateral drainage in 4/13 and bilateral drainage in 9/13 patients. No complications occurred. The lymphatic map showed more nodes compared to suspicious nodes on MRI or [18F]FDG-PET/CT in 8/14 patients. Sixteen patients were treated with radiotherapy with 34 visualized nodes on the lymphatic map. Of these nodes, 20/34 (58.8%) received suboptimal radiotherapy: 7/34 nodes did not receive radiotherapy at all, and 13/34 received external beam radiotherapy (EBRT), but no simultaneous integrated boost (SIB). Conclusion Lymphatic mapping is feasible in LACC. Almost 60% of nodes at risk received suboptimal treatment during chemoradiation. As treatment failure could be caused by (micro)metastasis in some of these nodes, including nodes at risk in the radiotherapy treatment volume could improve radiotherapy treatment outcome in LACC. Trail registration The study was first registered at the International Clinical Trial Registry Platform (ICTRP) under number of NL9323 on 4 March 2021. Considering the source platform was not operational anymore, the study was retrospectively registered again on February 27, 2023 at CilicalTrials.gov under number of NCT05746156.

This article presents the study of the shock wave propagation through aluminum alloys (pure aluminum and aluminum 2024-T3) produced by laser plasma using experimental and numerical tests. Water confinement regime interaction, pulse duration (7.2 ns), and power density (1–5 GW / cm 2) range correspond to laser shock peening process configuration and parameters. To that scope, we simulate the shock wave propagation using non-linear explicit code LS-DYNA, which we validate with experimental results. Thereupon, we present a descriptive analysis that links separately the material model and loading conditions to the dynamic response of aluminum alloys under high strain rate laser shock by coupling the Johnson-Cook (J-C) material model with the Grüneisen equation of state (MAT_015 and EOS_GRUNEISEN accordingly). In addition, we make use of stress propagation into target thickness to analyze the origin of different points on the Back Face Velocity (BFV) profile during shock propagation. Finally, we provide evidence that 2D compressive effects do not depend only on the focal spot size or target thickness such as the edge effects but also on power density and material initial yield strength. Laser-driven shock experiments were conducted at a synchrotron facility to investigate the dynamic response of polyurethane foam. These experiments were coupled to in situ x-ray imaging to radiograph foam deformations and to determine the propagation velocity of stress waves. To increase the amplitude and the duration of the pressure load generated by the laser–matter interaction, the front surface of the target was covered with a confining layer (water and BK7 glass). Preliminary calibration tests involving time-resolved velocity measurements were performed to calculate the ablation pressure on the front surface of foam samples. The calculated pressure loads were used as input data for hydrodynamic simulations, in which the foam is modeled using a homogeneous porous macroscopic model, and model predictions were compared with experimental results. A fair consistency was found for most experiments, while for the others, an overestimation of the applied pressure is suspected, likely due to a laser breakdown within the confining medium. Finally, post-shot x-ray tomography of the recovered samples showed permanent deformation of the foam, unlike what was observed under quasi-static compression, and revealed heavy damage in the vicinity of the loaded zone. Molecular imaging of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) may allow detection of atherosclerotic lesions vulnerable to rupture. In this study, we develop a novel radiolabelled compound that can target gelatinase MMP subtypes (MMP2/9) with high selectivity and inhibitory potency. Inhibitory potencies of several halogenated analogues of MMP subtype-selective inhibitors (N-benzenesulfonyliminodiacetyl monohydroxamates and N-halophenoxy-benzenesulfonyl iminodiacetyl monohydroxamates) were in the nanomolar range for MMP2/9. The analogue with highest inhibitory potency and selectivity was radiolabelled with [123I], resulting in moderate radiochemical yield, and high radiochemical purity. Biodistribution studies in mice, revealed stabilization in blood 1 hour after intravenous bolus injection. Intravenous infusion of the radioligand and subsequent autoradiography of excised aortas showed tracer uptake in atheroprone mice. Distribution of the radioligand showed co-localization with MMP2/9 immunohistochemical staining. In conclusion, we have developed a novel selective radiolabeled MMP2/9 inhibitor, suitable for single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging that effectively targets atherosclerotic lesions in mice.

Offshore transportation of gaseous fluids frequently relies on flexible pipes. Flexible pipes are obtained from the helicoidal rolling of steel tape which induces a geometrical cavity from edge to edge. Along the pipe, the gas infinitely encounters the edge to edge cavity of the same shape at regular interval. In some service conditions, acoustic vibrations of huge amplitude can arise. Indeed, in front of each cavity, there is a shear layer where Kelvin-Helmholtz instability can occur. The flow encounters a large number of cavities on its path which gives rise to a new specific problem: is there a stabilized flow? Results of large eddy scale simulations are presented as a reference but they are very costly. This gives reason to develop a numerical solution of the Orr-Sommerfeld equation in order to analyze the temporal and spatial wave lengths generated by the shear layers in front of the cavities. First, we introduce the problem of flexible risers and the analysis of some RANS and LES modeling. Second, a bibliographical study describes the state of the art about vibrations induced by cavity. Third, we state the Orr-Sommerfeld equation and set the problem we want to solve in terms of generalized eigen values Numerical discretizations are based on finite difference approaches of fourth orders. The choice of the relevant eigen values among all those provided by the solutions of the numerical problem is the main difficulty to be tackled. Le transport offshore de gaz utilise souvent des conduites flexibles. Elles sont fabriquées en enroulant en hélice un ruban d’acier; au contact bord à bord des tours d’hélice, une cavité apparaît. Le gaz s’écoule en conduite et rencontre cette cavité à intervalles réguliers, toujours avec la même forme. Dans certaines conditions d’usage, des vibrations acoustiques de grandes amplitudes apparaissent. En effet, devant chaque cavité, il y a une couche de cisaillement où une instabilité de type Kelvin-Helmholtz apparaît. L’écoulement rencontre un très grand nombre de fois la cavité sur son chemin et une question se pose : existe-t-il un écoulement stabilisé ? Les résultats des simulations des grandes échelles de la turbulence sont présentés en référence mais elles sont extrêmement coûteuses. Cela justifie le développement de solutions numériques de l’équation d’Orr- Sommerfeld pour analyser les longueurs d’onde spatiales et temporelles générées par la couche de mélange qui siègent devant les cavités. Tout d’abord, nous introduisons la problématique des conduites flexibles et l’analyse de quelques modèles RANS et LES. En second lieu, une étude bibliographique décrit l’état de l’art au sujet des vibrations induites par cavité. Troisièmement, nous établissons l’équation d’Orr-Somerfeld et posons le problème que nous voulons résoudre en termes de discrétisations numériques de valeurs propres généralisées basées sur des schémas aux différences finies d’ordre 4. Le choix des valeurs propres significatives parmi toutes celles fournies par la solution discrète est alors une difficulté sérieuse que nous avons résolue.
