Objective: The purpose of this study was to describe how professors of the Emergency Medicine Discipline at a Faculty of Medicine in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, managed to use Online Simulation as a teaching tool during the social isolation of the pandemic COVID-19. The activity was aimed at students of the fourth year of Medicine within the scope of the discipline. The study also shows the hit rate of medical students in online simulation scenarios and the students' satisfaction with the activity. Methods: It was a dual descriptive and quantitative study. 107 people participated in the study, being: 12 professors and 28 monitors, in addition to 67 medical students divided into scenario participants and observers. A total of 32 simulation cases were performed, occurring four days a week, for five weeks. The study design involved six phases: Learning objectives and teams organizations; Event registration; Data collect; Simulation scenarios; Debriefing sessions and Event evaluation. Each phase is detailed in the paper. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic had catastrophic effects, but it also led us to assess our current educational activities. We need to learn from experiences. Online simulation ushered in a new form of teaching and learning at our university. The students accepted the new simulation model with ease, as they belong to the millennium generation, fully accustomed to technical resources. They seemed to feel at ease in this situation, enjoying all the advantages it offers: studying at home, in their own way, in their own time. After COVID-19 pandemic, medical education may have changed forever. Further studies must evaluate the consequences of these changes in the future.

The Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation treatment (PEO, sometimes also called MAO, Micro Arc Oxidation) has recently attracted great attention due to its capability to create a thick and adherent coating with excellent corrosion and wear resistance. Some of the main characteristics of PEO coatings are the high porosity of the outer layer and the possibility to incorporate directly into the coating particles that are dispersed into the electrolyte. This work will describe the results obtained by inserting metallic and non-metallic particles in PEO coatings produced on magnesium and aluminum alloys. In particular, nano-particles of graphite have been inserted in order to improve the wear resistance and metal particles (copper or silver) in order to give to the samples bactericidal, fungicidal or antifouling properties.

For a series of organonitrile [RCN (R = Me, CF3, Ph, CH3Ph, CF3Ph)] ligands, the nature of the N-Pt bond in the related cis-/trans-(RCN)2PtCl2 complexes has been computationally investigated by Density Functional Theory. A fragment based bond analysis has been performed in the canonical Kohn-Sham molecular orbitals framework, and it has been ultimately assessed that this bond is characterized both by N→Pt σ and by N←Pt π contributions. Voronoi Deformation Density charges further confirms the occurrence of N←Pt π interactions. Moreover, the Energy Decomposition Analysis-Natural Orbital for Chemical Valence (EDA-NOCV) method shows that the strength of the N←Pt π interaction is not negligible by contributing to about 30-40% of the total orbital interaction. Finally, the well-known νCN blue-shift occurring upon coordination to PtII, has been thoroughly investigated by exploiting the EDA-NOCV and by evaluating νCN and force constants. The origin of the νCN blue-shift in these systems has been discussed on the basis of the CN bond polarization. N←Pt π backbonding causes only a systematic decrease of the observed νCN blue-shift when compared to the one calculated for RCN-X (X = H+, alkaline, Lewis acids) herein reported (X = purely σ acceptors).

The DESCRAMBLE project has developed novel drilling technologies for a proof-of-concept test of reaching deep geothermal supercritical resources. In the project, we have drilled and tested the continental-crust condition for demonstrating novel drilling techniques, the control of gas emissions and high temperature/pressure conditions expected from the deep fluids. The project has also improved knowledge of deep chemical-physical conditions for predicting and controlling future drilling conditions. The test site has been an existing dry well in Larderello, Italy, already drilled to a depth of 2.2 km and temperature of 350 °C, which was deepened to 3 km depth reaching supercritical conditions. The productivity and efficiency of the project were ensured by the combination of industrial and research participation and by the recognized expertise of the consortium in geothermal R&D as well as oil and gas drilling, combining excellence in both sectors. DESCRAMBLE's results will be presented in this paper, covering all the main aspects of the project: drilling procedures, material, well control, mud logging, well testing, modelling, geochemical and geophysical surveys and monitoring, petrographic and petrophysical evaluations and very high temperature and pressure logging tool.

International audience; The DEEPEGS project is an innovation demonstration project, supported by the H2020 European Commission programme. The goal is to demonstrate the feasibility of enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) for delivering energy from renewable resources in Europe. It is a four years project led by HS Orka, Iceland, and in cooperation with partners from Iceland, France, Germany, Italy, and Norway. The project is testing stimulating technologies for deep EGS development, which will deliver new innovative solutions and models for wider deployments of EGS reservoirs providing significant amounts of geothermal power across Europe. The project demonstrates advanced technologies in three geothermal reservoir types that all provide unique conditions for demonstrating the applicability of this " tool bag " on different geological contexts. It will demonstrate the capabilities of EGS for widespread exploitation of high enthalpy heat (i) beneath existing hydrothermal field at Reykjanes (volcanic environment) with temperature up to 550°C and (ii) in very deep hydrothermal reservoirs at Valence (crystalline and sandstone) and Vistrenque (limestone) with temperatures up to 220°C. The consortium is industry driven with five energy companies that will implement the project goal through cross-fertilisation and sharing of knowledge. The companies are all highly experienced in energy production and three of them are already delivering power to national grids from geothermal resources. There is a special focus on business cases to demonstrate significant advances in bringing EGS derived energy (TRL6-7) routinely to market exploitation, with the potential to mobilise project outcomes to full market scales following the end of DEEPEGS project. The consortium seeks to understand social concerns about EGS deployments, and will address those concerns in a proactive manner, where the environment, health and safety issues are prioritised and awareness raised for social acceptance. Furthermore, the consortium will, through risk analysis and hazard mitigation plans, ensure that relevant understanding of the risks and how they can be minimised and will be implemented as part of the RTD approaches, and as a core part of the business case development.
