Woodall and Montgomery [35] in a discussion paper, state that multivariate process control is one of the most rapidly developing sections of statistical process control. Nowadays, in industry, there are many situations in which the simultaneous monitoring or control, of two or more related quality - process characteristics is necessary. Process monitoring problems in which several related variables are of interest are collectively known as Multivariate Statistical Process Control (MSPC).This article has three parts. In the first part, we discuss in brief the basic procedures for the implementation of multivariate statistical process control via control charting. In the second part we present the most useful procedures for interpreting the out-of-control variable when a control charting procedure gives an out-of-control signal in a multivariate process. Finally, in the third part, we present applications of multivariate statistical process control in the area of industrial process control, informatics, and business.

Objectives: The incidence and antimicrobial susceptibilities of Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma hominis, isolated from vaginal and endocervical swabs collected from 369 outpatient women, were determined. Methods: Isolation, identification and typing of the pathogens were performed by means of conventional methods. The antimicrobial susceptibilities of the genital mycoplasmas were determined with commercially available kits and evaluated according to the CLSI. Results and conclusions: In 65 (47.44%) out of the 137 positive specimens, U. urealyticum was grown as a single pathogen, in 0.72% M. hominis was grown as a single pathogen and in 2.92% both urogenital mycoplasmas were grown. In the remaining specimens (48.90%), there was a mixed growth with other microbes. Of the isolated U. urealyticum strains, 87.4% and 98.2% were susceptible to tetracycline and doxycycline, respectively, 79.2% were susceptible to josamycin, 48.6% were susceptible to clarithromycin and 91.8% were susceptible to pristinamycin, while erythromycin, azithromycin, ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin proved to be inactive against most of the strains. M. hominis isolates were 100% susceptible to tetracycline, doxycycline and pristinamycin, while susceptibilities to the other antimicrobial agents varied mainly in the range of ‘intermediate’ or ‘resistant’. As results originating from similar studies from various countries are very controversial, the simplest way to avoid therapeutic failures would be the implementation of rational treatment regimens based on culture isolation and the in vitro determination of the antimicrobial susceptibility of genital mycoplasmas in each clinical case.

Η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία στόχο έχει να καλύψει ένα μεγάλο μέρος των τεχνικών προ επεξεργασίας δεδομένων κειμένων και εικόνων στον τομέα της υγείας, με σκοπό τη βελτίωση της απόδοσης των αλγορίθμων κατηγοριοποίησης αυτών σε προκαθορισμένες κατηγορίες. Για την κατηγοριοποίηση των κειμένων δοκιμάστηκαν τόσο τεχνικές μηχανικής μάθησης όσο και τεχνικές βαθιάς μηχανικής μάθησης. Στις τεχνικές μηχανικές μάθησης χρησιμοποιήθηκαν οι αλγόριθμοι Logistic Regression, Multinomial Naïve Bayes και Support Vector Machines (SVM). Τα αποτελέσματα αυτών συγκρίθηκαν και ο αλγόριθμος με την καλύτερη απόδοση βρέθηκε να είναι ο SVM με ακρίβεια κατηγοριοποίησης 88.98% Στις τεχνικές βαθιάς μηχανικής μάθησης χρησιμοποιηθήκαν αρχιτεκτονικές νευρωνικών δικτύων όπως Multilayer Perceptron και Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). Τα αποτελέσματα, αφού συγκρίθηκαν οι μέθοδοι μεταξύ τους, έδειξαν πως καλύτερη κατηγοριοποίηση των κειμένων επιτυγχάνει το δίκτυο Multilayer Perceptron με ακρίβεια κατηγοριοποίησης 84.85%. Η κατηγοριοποίηση εικόνων δοκιμάστηκε να επιτευχθεί με CNNs και Transfer Learning. Συγκεκριμένα ένα απλό CNN και ένα προ εκπαιδευμένο CNN γνωστό ως VGG16 δοκιμάστηκαν με καλύτερη απόδοση το VGG16 που πέτυχε ακρίβεια κατηγοριοποίησης 97.83%, Current thesis aims to cover a wide range of pre-processing techniques on text and image data on health sector, with the scope of improving the performance of classification algorithms. For text classification, Machine Learning algorithms such as Logistic Regression, Multinomial Naïve Bayes, and Support Vector Machines (SVM) were used and the results of them were compared to each other. The best performing algorithm was SVM with a classification accuracy of 88.98%. Deep Learning techniques were used as well, for the same task. A Multilayer Perceptron and a 1-Dimentional Convolutional Neural Network (1-D CNN) were trained and evaluated. The best performance achieved from the Multilayer Perceptron with a classification accuracy of 84.85%. Image classification task was implemented using CNNs and Transfer Learning. Specifically, a simple CNN and a pre-trained CNN known as VGG16 were used and the best performing was the VGG16 with a classification accuracy of 97.83%.

Η έκταση, η πιθανότητα και η πολυπλοκότητα της βιομηχανίας υγειονομικής περίθαλψης έχει προσελκύσει εκτεταμένη απάτη που έχει σημαντικό αντίκτυπο στην οικονομία. Οι δόλιες δραστηριότητες όχι μόνο συμβάλλουν στην αύξηση του προβλήματος των δαπανών της υγειονομικής περίθαλψης, αλλά επηρεάζουν επίσης την υγεία των ασθενών. Η πρόκληση στα τρέχοντα συστήματα εντοπισμού απάτης έγκειται κυρίως στην κατανόηση της επιβάρυνσης της χρηματικής απώλειας και των ασυνήθιστων συμπεριφορών. Παρά την εφαρμογή διαφόρων τεχνολογιών και στρατηγικών για την καταπολέμηση της απάτης, όπως προγραμματισμένοι, στοχευμένοι και τυχαίοι έλεγχοι, καταγγελίες και βιομετρικά συστήματα, η απάτη στην ασφάλιση συνεχίζει να αποτελεί μεγάλο πρόβλημα για τους περισσότερους παρόχους ασφάλισης υγείας. Σκοπός της παρούσας διπλωματικής εργασίας είναι να ευαισθητοποιήσει σχετικά με αυτόν τον σημαντικό τομέα το ευρύτερο κοινό αλλά και να καταδείξει την αναγκαιότητα για τους σχετικούς δημόσιους οργανισμούς και τις εταιρείες του χώρου της υγείας να επενδύσουν ένα σημαντικό μέρος του κεφαλαίου τους αλλά και του χρόνου τους στη σοφή αξιοποίηση των δεδομένων, τα οποία διατίθενται πλέον στον κόσμο, στην στατιστική μηχανική μάθηση, καθώς και σε τεχνικές προβλεπτικής αναλυτικής με σκοπό την μείωση της απάτης στην ασφάλιση υγείας. Αρχικά, δίνονται οι σχετικοί ορισμοί για την απάτη στην ασφάλισης υγείας καθώς και μία επισκόπηση του προβλήματος και των τρόπων και μορφών με τις οποίες αυτή εμφανίζεται. Στη συνέχεια, υπογραμμίζεται με διάφορα παραδείγματα απάτης στον τομέα της υγειονομικής περίθαλψης πόσο σημαντικό είναι το πρόβλημα. Επιπλέον, παρατίθενται και άλλοι τομείς εντοπισμού απάτης, οι οποίοι υποστηρίζονται με διάφορες μελέτες περιπτώσεων. Στη συνέχεια γίνεται μία διεξοδική αναζήτηση στη βιβλιογραφία για τις εφαρμογές της ανάλυσης δεδομένων και της στατιστικής μηχανικής μάθησης που έχουν χρησιμοποιηθεί μαζί με μελέτες περιπτώσεων. Έπειτα, αναφέρονται οι συνήθεις μέθοδοι μηχανικής μάθησης στον εντοπισμό της απάτης. Τέλος, επιλεγμένες μεθοδολογίες εφαρμόστηκαν σε πραγματικά δεδομένα προκειμένου να παρουσιαστεί μια ολοκληρωμένη μελέτη περίπτωσης με στόχο τη δημιουργία ενός μοντέλου που μπορεί να εντοπίσει με χαμηλότερο κόστος και δαπάνες δόλιους παρόχους στην ασφάλιση υγείας., The extent, probability, and complexity of the healthcare industry have attracted widespread fraud that has a significant impact on the economy; fraudulent activities not only contribute to the problem of increasing health care costs but also affect patient health; the challenge in current fraud detection systems lies mainly in understanding the burden of financial loss and unusual areas of behavior. Despite the implementation of various anti-fraud technologies and strategies, such as planned, targeted and random checks, complaints, and biometric systems, insurance fraud is still a major problem for most health insurance providers. The purpose of this thesis is to raise awareness of this important area among the general public and to demonstrate the need for relevant public bodies and health companies to invest a significant part of their capital and their time in the wise exploitation of the data now available in the world, statistical machine learning, as well as predictive analysis techniques to reduce health insurance fraud. Initially, the relevant definitions for health insurance fraud are given, and it is provided an overview of the problem and the ways and forms in which health insurance fraud occurs. Next, it is highlighted how important the problem is with various examples of healthcare fraud worldwide, and a presentation of punishments for health insurance fraud. In addition, other fraud detection areas are listed, supported by case studies. Then there will be a thorough search in the literature for the applications of data analytics and statistical machine learning that have been used along with case studies. At a later stage, the methods of machine learning in fraud detection that are commonly used are mentioned. Finally, selected methodologies were applied to real-world data in order to present a complete case study that aims to build a model that can detect fraudulent providers with lower costs and expenditures.

The present study investigates how it can be assessed and checked at any time the quality of the health services provided. With the utilization, KPIs identified in the literature and frameworks that operate worldwide, it is tried to create a multidimensional but easy-to-use evaluation and control framework. Its approach is mainly patient centered, but it is not overlooked the need for the sustainability of health service structures, as well as the importance of giving to policy makers the correct feedback in order to take the proper decisions. As far as the methodology applied is concerned, this is a bibliographical search in international scientific databases, with emphasis on scientific journals dealing with issues of health service provision and quality in health. In addition, relevant writings and material from the internet are also used, mainly from websites of bodies dealing with such issues. We are going to create a multidimensional framework, consisted of a combination of 151 KPIs, which we can control by 6 division, per each subcategory of each model. Thus, every Customer/Patient, or Health Service Structure Manager, or the one who makes political decisions about the functioning of the health system, has a plethora of options, in tool form, and depending on where he wants to focus on, can make the appropriate decisions. The creation of this useful tool is the purpose of this study.

Η εξατομίκευση των θεραπειών είναι καινοτόμα προσέγγιση που προσαρμόζει τη πρόληψη και τις θεραπείες λαμβάνοντας υπόψη διαφοροποιήσεις βιοδεικτών των ανθρώπων όπως επίσης και παράγοντες από το περιβάλλον και τον τρόπο ζωής. Οι βιοδείκτες είναι δείκτες που μπορούν να μετρηθούν, να αξιολογηθούν και να χρησιμοποιηθούν ώστε να προβλέψουν την εμφάνιση εξέλιξη μίας ασθένειας. Κλινικά επικυρωμένοι βιοδείκτες χρησιμοποιούνται για την εξατομίκευση των θεραπειών ώστε να διαχωρίσουν ασθενείς ως προς τον κίνδυνο ή την πρόγνωση να νοσήσουν ή την ανταπόκριση σε μία ασθένεια. Οι μέθοδοι μηχανικής μάθησης χρησιμοποιούνται ευρέως για την αναζήτηση βιοδεικτών και πολλοί από αυτούς όπως τα Δέντρα Αποφάσεων, τα Νευρωνικά Δίκτυα, τα Support Vector Machines και άλλα παρουσιάζονται παρακάτω. Επίσης, παρουσιάζονται αρκετές έρευνες στις οποίες αλγόριθμοι μηχανικής μάθησης έχουν εφαρμοστεί ώστε να αναζητήσουν πιθανούς βιοδείκτες για την εξατομίκευση θεραπειών. Τέλος πραγματοποιήθηκαν τρεις αναλύσεις σε τρία διαφορετικά σύνολα δεδομένων ώστε να εφαρμοστούν στην πράξη πολλές από τις μεθόδους που αναφέρονται και κάποιες ακόμα επιπρόσθετες διαδικασίες., Precision medicine is an innovative approach to tailoring disease prevention and treatment that takes into account differences in people’s biomarkers such as genes, environments, and lifestyles. Biomarkers are indices which can be measured, evaluated and used for predictions about disease occurrence and progression. Clinically validated biomarkers are used for precision medicine to classify patients based on their disease risk, prognosis and/or response to treatment. Machine learning methods are popularly used for biomarker discovery and many of them such as Decision Trees, Support Vector Machines, Neural Networks and others are presented below. Moreover, presented many studies in which machine learning algorithms have been applied in order to discover potential biomarkers for precision medicine. Finally they were analyzed three data sets for building in practice some of the methods that are referred and others beyond them.
