Abstract

Climate change, an urgent public health problem, will increase the morbidity and mortality of older adults. The 2020 report of The Lancet Countdown highlighted that older adults are susceptible to the effects of extreme weather events, including heatwaves. Through the lens of the socio-ecological model, we identified influences on persons at risk for heat-related illnesses. We applied the Heat-related Intolerance Screening Tool (HIST) to a case that demonstrates the impact of physical, social, environmental, and societal factors on older people. The hypothetical case provides a context for ambulatory care nurses to explore innovative ways to screen for heat intolerance to mitigate the risk of heat-related illnesses, such as heat stroke. Our innovation supports the broad utility of the simple HIST by ambulatory care nurses to identify and prevent heat-related illnesses, thereby reducing emergency room visits and hospital admissions. Abstract

The detection of intermediate species and the correlation of their ultrafast dynamics with the morphology and electronic structure of a surface is crucial to fully understand and control heterogeneous photoinduced and photocatalytic reactions. In this work, the ultrafast photodissociation dynamics of CH3Br molecules adsorbed on variable-size Au clusters on MgO/Mo(100) is investigated by monitoring the CH3+ transient evolution using a pump-probe technique in conjunction with surface mass spectrometry. Furthermore, extreme-UV photoemission spectroscopy in combination with theoretical calculations is employed to study the electronic structure of the Au clusters on MgO/Mo(100). Changes in the ultrafast dynamics of the CH3+ fragment are correlated with the electronic structure of Au as it evolves from monomers to small nonmetallic clusters to larger nanoparticles with a metallic character. This work provides a new avenue to a detailed understanding of how surface-photoinduced chemical reactions are influenced by the composition and electronic structure of the surface.

19. Understanding the Office-Based Addiction Treatment Nurse's Contributions to the Recovery of Interprofessional Team Patients: A Quality Improvement Project

Abstract

Interprofessional teams are useful in providing complex care to patients with substance use disorder. Predictors of treatment outcomes, such as age, socioeconomic status, and social supports, have been studied in addiction treatment. Individual contributions of the office-based addiction treatment nurse in the care of patients with opioid use disorder are not well understood. Through the lens of the Nursing Role Effectiveness Model, nursing interventions related to care coordination and transition management in patients on medication-assisted treatment were examined. Documentation from interprofessional team members was reviewed and collected in REDCap. Linear regression was conducted to identify significant factors in predicting time to stabilization, defined as achieving a third opiate-free toxicology screen. Logistic regression was used to identify significant associations between patient demographics, care team members, and documented interventions. Overall, patients' time to stability on buprenorphine was decreased by approximately five months when a recovery coach was on the nurses' team (p = 0.03) and by seven months when the patient was referred for and received counseling services (p = 0.001). Abstract

Background: Individuals who experience childhood trauma may be more likely to misuse substances. The influence of social risk factors increases the frequency of opioid use. Understanding the linkages between childhood trauma, opioid use disorder, and social risk factors has the potential of improving poor health outcomes. The performance of specific role groups on office-based addition teams in documenting social risk factors in the electronic medical record had not been studied. Methods: This retrospective chart review was conducted across three primary care practices at an urban academic medical center. Results: The majority of our sample reported at least one social risk factor. Those patients with an advanced practice nurse and/or navigator on their team were more likely to report food insecurity and to have documentation related to involvement with the legal system. Recovery coaches were most likely to document the lack of housing stability as compared to other members of the team. Conclusions: The incidence of documentation related to housing stability, food insecurity, and involvement with the legal system for patient's engaged in an OBAT program should alert interprofessional clinicians on the team to assess for a history of adverse childhood experiences. Abstract

Aims We introduce ReSurveyEurope — a new data source of resurveyed vegetation plots in Europe, compiled by a collaborative network of vegetation scientists. We describe the scope of this initiative, provide an overview of currently available data, governance, data contribution rules, and accessibility. In addition, we outline further steps, including potential research questions. Results ReSurveyEurope includes resurveyed vegetation plots from all habitats. Version 1.0 of ReSurveyEurope contains 283,135 observations (i.e., individual surveys of each plot) from 79,190 plots sampled in 449 independent resurvey projects. Of these, 62,139 (78%) are permanent plots, that is, marked in situ, or located with GPS, which allow for high spatial accuracy in resurvey. The remaining 17,051 (22%) plots are from studies in which plots from the initial survey could not be exactly relocated. Four data sets, which together account for 28,470 (36%) plots, provide only presence/absence information on plant species, while the remaining 50,720 (64%) plots contain abundance information (e.g., percentage cover or cover–abundance classes such as variants of the Braun-Blanquet scale). The oldest plots were sampled in 1911 in the Swiss Alps, while most plots were sampled between 1950 and 2020. Conclusions ReSurveyEurope is a new resource to address a wide range of research questions on fine-scale changes in European vegetation. The initiative is devoted to an inclusive and transparent governance and data usage approach, based on slightly adapted rules of the well-established European Vegetation Archive (EVA). ReSurveyEurope data are ready for use, and proposals for analyses of the data set can be submitted at any time to the coordinators. Still, further data contributions are highly welcome.
