Insulating sheets, impregnants and encapsulation materials commonly used for winding insulation offer low thermal conductivities. This leads to an increased heating of the winding of electrical machines and to the existence of hotspots. The electromagnetical utilization of the machine has to be reduced with respect to the allowed maximum winding temperature. In this paper, the development and experimental investigation of novel polysiloxane composites with ceramic fillers are presented. The materials are tested by means of impregnated and encapsulated samples of a round-wire winding as well as the main insulation of electrical steel sheets and laminated cores. Numerical models are implemented for determining the equivalent thermal conductivity of the winding compound comprising the enameled wire and the impregnant. Based on the example of a permanent-magnet synchronous machine with outer-rotor in modular construction, the potential for increasing the electromagnetical utilization is shown.

This paper offers a guideline for the early design stages of multi-phase electric machines. All considerations refer to permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) with tooth-wound coils. The coils are separately fed by H-bridge converters. Corresponding drive configurations provide a maximum of availability and control flexibility. Based on analytic modelling of the air gap magnetomotive force (MMF), feasible combinations of slot, pole, and phase numbers are suggested. Next, the extracted combinations are evaluated in terms of torque oscillation, radial forces, winding factor and unbalanced magnetic pull. The proposed set of design criteria appears in the form of analytic expressions, which are suited to the creation of design tables. Altogether, the approach allows an effective preselection of promising design solutions and supports further finite-element optimization steps.

The modulation methods Space Vector PWM (SVPWM), Discontinuous PWM (DPWM1, DPWMMAX) and six-step mode are investigated in the overmodulation range of a voltage-fed induction motor drive. This area enables an increase of inverter output voltage so that drive performance can be enhanced. Though, pulse dropping occurs which results in increased iron losses and current waveform quality degradation. Due to differences in harmonic distortion the modulation methods cause various torque oscillations and power losses in induction motors and inverter drives. To quantify these effects in a squirrel cage induction motor drive a simulation model containing a finite element machine model and an analytic inverter model is developed, in order to find the PWM scheme offering maximum torque and minimal power losses. Additionally, the holistic investigation of machine and inverter losses allows for making statements concerning total losses of drive systems and the most suitable overmodulation scheme for the application.

Fuer die neueste Generation von rein elektrischen Antriebseinheiten hat die IAV das Konzept DrivePacEV80 entworfen. Die lastschaltbare Zweigang-Loesung mit integrierter, nasslaufender Asynchronmaschine zeichnet sich durch ein hohes Potenzial an Zugkraft und Energieeffizienz aus und ist durch ihre Skalierbarkeit fuer unterschiedliche alternative Konfigurationen in verschiedenen Fahrzeugsegmenten einsetzbar. Die Entwicklung der Leistungselektronik im Hybridumfeld befindet sich derzeit in einem rasanten Verbesserungsprozess. Vor dem Hintergrund einer steigenden Anzahl von Fahrzeugen und der Einfuehrung von Elektrofahrzeugen in Serie ist eine deutliche Steigerung der Lebensdauer der verwendeten Halbleitermodule unabdingbar. Die Leistungsdichte des gesamten Umrichters bildet durch die begrenzten Bauraeume ebenfalls ein wichtiges Optimierungsziel und wird zusammen mit den Kosten ueber den Erfolg dieser Technologie mitentscheiden. Der Beitrag zeigt den derzeitigen Stand der Leistungselektronik-Technik auf, verdeutlicht ernsthafte Problemstellungen und vergleicht Loesungsansaetze, die fuer die Zukunft favorisiert werden.

Der Verbrennungsmotor liefert die gesamte in einem Hybridfahrzeug umgesetzte Energie (auser beim Plug-in-Hybrid), weshalb seine optimale Auslegung bei Hybridkonzepten eine wesentliche Rolle spielt. Die Leistung, die der Verbrennungsmotor liefern soll, hangt von dem gewahlten Hybridkonzept ab. Parallelhybride als Vollhybridvariante haben meist einen starkeren Elektromotor und konnen deshalb mit einem relativ kleinen Verbrennungsmotor kombiniert werden, wohingegen beim Mild- oder Mikrohybrid der Antrieb masgeblich vom Verbrennungsmotor erfolgt. Bei einem seriellen Hybrid wird die vom Verbrennungsmotor abgegebene Bewegungsenergie in der Regel nicht direkt zum Vortrieb verwendet, sondern in elektrische Energie umgewandelt, die gegebenenfalls in der Batterie zwischengespeichert wird und den Elektromotor fur den Antrieb versorgt. Die Auslegung des Verbrennungsmotors richtet sich also sehr stark nach dem Einsatzzweck des Fahrzeugs und nach der Antriebsstruktur.
