Abstract

Answering articles by Smith (PJ 18) and Matoso (PJ 22) about the Divided Line, I argue that the problems Smith raised and Matoso pretended to solve don’t exist in a proper reading of the analogy and the ensuing allegory of the cave in light of one another and stem from a misunderstanding of the expression ἀνα τὸν αὺτον λόγον at Rep. VI, 509d7: the λόγος to be used to split both segments is not the one used to split the line in the first place, and it is not a numerical ratio, but a logical rationale.

Abstract

Dans ce travail, nous allons expliquer comment décomposer le complémentaire des anneaux borroméens dans la sphère en tétraèdres idéaux dont les faces sont identifiées par paire. Nous pourrons ensuite trouver une représentation du groupe fondamental de ce complémentaire dans PSL2(C). Nous montrerons également comment calculer le volume hyperbolique de ces tétraèdres en fonction de leurs angles dihédraux, ce qui nous permettra de calculer le volume du complémentaire des anneaux borroméens. Le volume hyperbolique du complémentaire d'un noeud ou d'un entrelacs est en effet un outil de classification relativement utile, dans la mesure où il n'y a qu'un nombre fini de variétés de même volume. Nous commencerons par rappeler quelques notions de géométrie hyperbolique dont nous aurons besoin.

Abstract

Ce rapport de recherche se veut une étude exploratoire de la problématique des retards scolaires des garçons au primaire. Des données factuelles attirent l'attention sur des écarts entre les résultats scolaires des garçons et ceux des filles, dans tous les ordres d'enseignement. Au coeur de l'action éducative, l'enseignante laisse paraître implicitement ou explicitement des attentes à l'endroit de ses élèves. Tout comme dans la société, le curriculum caché de l'enseignante n'est pas exempt des influences que peuvent avoir sur les normes et la pratique éducative, les stéréotypes liés au sexe de ses élèves. Le but de cette recherche consiste à mettre au jour les qualités scolaires attendues de la part des enseignantes du primaire à l'égard des filles et des garçons. Ces qualités scolaires attendues sont regroupées en des catégories qui permettent d'établir un bilan comparatif pour les garçons et les filles. Les données sont recueillies à l'aide d'un questionnaire adressé aux enseignantes du primaire d'une commission scolaire. Ce questionnaire porte sur des attentes spécifiques et leur degré d'importance à l'égard des filles et des garçons. L'analyse des données recueillies auprès des enseignantes laisse apparaître des différences statistiques significatives des attentes envers les filles et les garçons. Les stéréotypes liés au sexe et le degré d'attente différent selon qu'on soit fille ou garçon correspondent en partie seulement à la position des résultats scolaires, ce que viennent d'ailleurs aussi confirmer les études citées dans cette recherche. Il ressort qu'en général les attentes sont moins élevées envers les garçons qu'envers les filles en terme d'importance pour certaines qualités attendues. Cependant, les différences statistiques ne fournissent pas d'explications suffisantes des retards scolaires. 21. Synthesis and in vivo studies of a specific monoamine oxidase B inhibitor: 5-[4-(benzyloxy)phenyl]-3-(2-cyanoethyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-[C]-2(3 H)-one.

Abstract

We report the radiochemical synthesis of a specific MAO B inhibitor, namely 5-[4-(benzyloxy)phenyl]-3-(2-cyanoethyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-[C]-2(3 H)-one ( 2b) (in vitro IC=4n M and selectivity over 71000 for MAO B), by cyclization of its hydrazide precursor 1 with [C]phosgene. The reaction occurred within 2 min. The product obtained after HPLC purification, 2b, had a high specific activity (11.1-22.2 GBq/µmol), allowing its use in experiments as a radiotracer in vivo. Biodistribution of 2b in the CNS and in the peripheral organs of the rat, and positron emission tomography (PET) studies in the living baboon brain, pretreated or not with l-deprenyl (1 mg/kg, 1 h), an irreversible MAO B-specific inhibitor, were undertaken. The results showed a good uptake of 2b in all organs of the rat, with a rapid clearance from the blood (10 min). Metabolite analyses in plasma and in the diencephalon of the rat showed that 2b was the only radioactive compound in brain structure whereas in plasma three other radioactive products appeared. PET experiments show that in the l-deprenyl-pretreated baboon brain, specific binding of 2b represents around 70% of total radioactivity, whereas in the blood and plasma the radioactivity cleared rapidly (15 min).
