Abstract

With the rapid advancement of the global market, innovative policies and programmes are needed to enable marginalised individuals to become efficacious competitors, decision makers, and owners in the future. The Assets-based model for developing, implementing, and evaluating programmes for young persons is presented as the method for equipping margjnalised youths with the skills, behaviour, knowledge and social networks necessary for them to achieve greater mobility beyond the often ascribed limitations of a stratified society. This article discusses the deficiencies of traditional social work programmes that are based upon the theoretical benefits of meritocracy in an ideal society. The assets-based model for programming is a method for equipping marginalised young persons with the capital necessary for them to achieve mobility beyond the ascribed limitations of a stratified society: This article discusses the limitations of traditional social work programmes and proposes the creation of a transformed social system that develops and capitalises on the marketable assets of young persons and matches them with the demands of the global society. Abstract

The article assess movement toward rediscovering an authentic religious collective consciousness in the Caribbean. It discusses the legacy of slavery on religious expression in the region, which includes the prevalence of Anglo or Eurocentric Christianity. It is noted that decolonizing theology is the conscious effort to redress the illusion of freedom fostered by Anglo religious practice and replace it with a transcended reality. Reflections are provided on the role of religion in responding to the call for freedom, transcendence and unity.
