The evolution of the Fermi surface of CeRh$_{1-x}$Co$_x$In$_5$ was studied as a function of Co concentration $x$ via measurements of the de Haas-van Alphen effect. By measuring the angular dependence of quantum oscillation frequencies, we identify a Fermi surface sheet with $f$-electron character which undergoes an abrupt change in topology as $x$ is varied. Surprisingly, this reconstruction does not occur at the quantum critical concentration $x_c$, where antiferromagnetism is suppressed to T=0. Instead we establish that this sudden change occurs well below $x_c$, at the concentration x ~ 0.4 where long range magnetic order alters its character and superconductivity appears. Across all concentrations, the cyclotron effective mass of this sheet does not diverge, suggesting that critical behavior is not exhibited equally on all parts of the Fermi surface., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures

We measured the Fermi surface of the recently discovered superconductor Ag5Pb2O6 via a de Haas-van Alphen rotation study. Two frequency branches were observed and identified with the neck and belly orbits of a very simple, nearly free electron Fermi surface. We use the observed Fermi surface geometry to quantitatively deduce superconducting properties such as the in-plane and out-of-plane penetration depths, the coherence length in the clean limit, and the critical field; as well as normal state properties such as the specific heat and the resistivity anisotropy., Comment: 2 pages, 1 figure, submitted to Physica C (M2S Proceedings)

We present new, high resolution Hall effect and magnetoresistance measurements across the metamagnetic transition in the heavy fermion compound CeRu2Si2. The results force us to rethink the notion that the transition is accompanied by an abrupt f-electron localisation. Instead, we explain our data assuming a continuous change of the Fermi surface. We report the results of a study of the Hall effect and magnetoresistance in single crystals of Sr2RuO4 in which Sr^(2+) has been substituted by La^(3+) (Sr(2-y)La(y)RuO(4)) or Ru^(4+) by Ti^(4+) (Sr(2)Ru(1-x)Ti(x)O(4)). For undoped Sr2RuO4, the purity is so high that the strong-field Hall coefficient can be measured for fields above 4 T. The conventional weak-field Hall coefficient as a function of doping shows a sharp jump and sign change at y ~ 0.01 that is unrelated to either a sharp change in Fermi-surface topography or a magnetic instability. We report a systematic study of electron doping of Sr2RuO4 by non-isovalent substitution of La^(3+) for Sr^(2+). Using a combination of de Haas-van Alphen oscillations, specific heat, and resistivity measurements, we show that electron doping leads to a rigid-band shift of the Fermi level corresponding to one doped electron per La ion, with constant many-body quasiparticle mass enhancement over the band mass. The susceptibility spectrum is substantially altered and enhanced by the doping but this has surprisingly little effect on the strength of the unconventional superconducting pairing., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures

We report a study of magnetic, thermal, and transport properties of La(3+) substituted Sr2RuO4, performed in order to investigate the effects of additional electron doping in this correlated metal. A gradual enhancement of the electronic part of specific heat and a more drastic increase of the static magnetic susceptibility were observed in Sr(2-y)La(y)RuO(4) with increasing y. Furthermore, the quasi-two-dimensional Fermi-liquid behavior seen in pure Sr2RuO4 breaks down near the critical concentration y ~ 0.20. Combined with a realistic tight-binding model with rigid-band shift of Fermi level, the enhancement of the density of states can be ascribed to the elevation of the Fermi energy toward a van Hove singularity of the thermodynamically dominant \gamma Fermi-surface sheet. On approaching the van Hove singularity, the effective nesting-vector of the \gamma band shrinks and further enhances the susceptibility near the wave vector q ~ 0. We attribute the non-Fermi-liquid behavior to two-dimensional ferromagnetic fluctuations with short range correlations at the van Hove singularity. The observed behavior is in sharp contrast to that of Ti(4+) substitution in Sr2RuO4 which enhances antiferromagnetic fluctuations and subsequently induces incommensurate magnetic ordering associated with the nesting between the other Fermi-surface sheets (\alpha and \beta). We thus establish that substitution of appropriate chemical dopants can band-selectively modify the spin-fluctuation spectrum in the spin-triplet superconductor Sr2RuO4., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures

We present a detailed de Haas van Alphen effect study of the perovskite CaVO3, offering an unprecedented test of electronic structure calculations in a 3d transition metal oxide. Our experimental and calculated Fermi surfaces are in good agreement -- but only if we ignore large orthorhombic distortions of the cubic perovskite structure. Subtle discrepancies may shed light on an apparent conflict between the low energy properties of CaVO3, which are those of a simple metal, and high energy probes which reveal strong correlations that place CaVO3 on the verge of a metal-insulator transition., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures (REVTeX)

We apply a novel analysis of the field and angle dependence of the quantum-oscillatory amplitudes in the unconventional superconductor Sr2RuO4 to map its Fermi surface in unprecedented detail, and to obtain previously inaccessible information on the band dispersion. The three quasi-2D Fermi surface sheets not only exhibit very diverse magnitudes of warping, but also entirely different dominant warping symmetries. Sr2RuO4 is the only known layered perovskite oxide superconductor without copper; there is strong evidence for an unconventional ("p-wave") pairing mechanism, and it has recently been shown to possess a cylindrical, "quasi-two-dimensional" Fermi surface. Using Sr2RuO4 as a test case for the detection of quantum oscillations with piezoresistive microcantilevers, the piezolever torque magnetometry technique was successfully implemented on a dilution refrigerator. It was possible to reproduce the quantum-oscillatory magnetization data on all three Fermi surface sheets, in a crystal of microgram mass. Moreover, an absolute estimate of the amplitude of the oscillation is provided. We also investigated the phenomenon of torque interaction which distorts the magnetization signal and introduces harmonics and sidebands to the dHvA spectrum. As the torque interaction effect grows in strength, overcriticality is shown to lead to discrete magnetization jumps and to a near-asymptotically damped "sproing" effect., Comment: RevTeX, 3 pages, 3 encapsulated PostScript figures, to appear in Physica C (ACS-1 conference proceedings)

Piezolever torque magnetometry has been used to measure the magnetization of superconducting Tl2Ba2CuO6. Three crystals with different levels of oxygen overdoping were investigated in magnetic fields up to 10 Tesla. In all cases, the magnetization above the irreversibility line was found to depart from the behaviour M ~ ln(Hc2/H) of a simple London-like vortex liquid. In particular, for a strongly overdoped (Tc = 15K) crystal, the remnant superconducting order above the irreversibility line is characterized by a linear diamagnetic response (M ~ H) that persists well above Tc and also up to the highest field employed., Comment: RevTeX, 11 pages, 7 encapsulated PostScript figures, submitted to Physical Review B
