The May-Thurner syndrome is a well-known anatomical anomaly where the left common iliac vein (LCIV) is compressed between the right common iliac artery and the fifth vertebral body. This report describes the case of a "right-sided" May-Thurner syndrome where the right common iliac vein (RCIV) is compressed by the left common iliac artery in a patient with a left-sided inferior vena cava (IVC). A 26-year-old woman was admitted to our institution with acute edema of the right lower limb. The diagnosis of May-Thurner syndrome was done by CT scan and confirmed by phlebography. An endovascular treatment with stenting was carried out, with good patency and clinical result at 12-month follow-up. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a rare cause of heart failure. Only half of the patients recover normal cardiac function. We assessed the usefulness of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and late enhancement imaging to detect myocardial fibrosis in order to predict cardiac function recovery in patients with peripartum cardiomyopathy. Among a consecutive series of 1,037 patients referred for heart failure treatment or prognostic evaluation between 1999 and 2006, eight women had confirmed PPCM. They all underwent echocardiography and cardiac MRI for assessment of left ventricular anatomy, systolic function and detection of myocardial fibrosis through late enhancement imaging. Mean (+/- SD) baseline left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) was 28 +/- 4%. After a follow-up of 50 +/- 9 months, half the patients recovered normal cardiac function (LVEF = 58 +/- 4%) and four did not (LVEF = 35 +/- 6%). None of the eight patients exhibited abnormal myocardial late enhancement. No difference in MRI characteristics was observed between the two groups. Patients with PPCM do not exhibit a specific cardiac MRI pattern and particularly no myocardial late enhancement. It suggests that myocardial fibrosis does not play a major role in the limitation of cardiac function recovery after PPCM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Retrieval of removable inferior vena cava (IVC) filters in selected patients is widely practiced. The purpose of this multicenter study was to evaluate the feasibility and results of percutaneous removal of the ALN removable filter in a large patient cohort. Between November 2003 and June 2006, 123 consecutive patients were referred for percutaneous extraction of the ALN filter at three centers. The ALN filter is a removable filter that can be implanted through a femoral/jugular vein approach and extracted by the jugular vein approach. Filter removal was attempted after an implantation period of 93 +/- 15 days (range, 6-722 days) through the right internal jugular vein approach using the dedicated extraction kit after control inferior vena cavography. Following filter removal, vena cavograms were obtained in all patients. Successful extraction was achieved in all but one case. Among these successful retrievals, additional manipulation using a femoral approach was needed when the apex of the filter was close to the IVC wall in two patients. No immediate IVC complications were observed according to the postimplantation cavography. Neither technical nor clinical differences between early and late filter retrieval were noticed. Our data confirm the safety of ALN filter retrieval up to 722 days after implantation. In infrequent cases, additional endovenous filter manipulation is needed to facilitate extraction. Purpose: To compare potential dose reduction and quality improvement in chest CT images with Photon-Counting CT (PCCT) versus a Dual-Source CT (DSCT)., Methods: Acquisitions on phantoms were performed on a DSCT and a PCCT at 5 dose levels (9.5/7.5/6.0/2.5/0.4 mGy). Noise power spectrum (NPS) and task-based transfer function (TTF) were calculated to assess noise magnitude and noise texture (f av ) and spatial resolution (f 50 ), respectively. Computed detectability indexes (d') modelled the detection of 2 chest lesions: subsolid pulmonary nodules (SPN) and high-contrast pulmonary nodules (HCN). Two radiologists subjectively assessed the quality of chest images on an anthropomorphic phantom., Results: For all dose levels, noise magnitude was significantly lower with PCCT than with DSCT (-44.7 ± 3.0 %; p < 0.05). Identical outcomes were found for noise texture (f av ; -6.2 ± 0.5 %; p < 0.05). f 50 values were significantly higher with DSCT than with PCCT from 9.5 to 6 mGy for iodine insert (p < 0.05) and from 7.5 to 2.5 mGy for air insert (p < 0.05), but similar for both inserts at other dose levels. For all dose levels, d' values were significantly higher with PCCT than DSCT (71.9 ± 5.4 % for HCN and 65.6 ± 13.5 % for SPN). From 9.5 to 2.5 mGy, the potential dose reduction was -59.0 ± 3.9 % for both lesions with PCCT compared to DSCT. Chest images were rated satisfactory for clinical use by the radiologists with both CTs for all dose levels, except at 0.4 mGy., Conclusion: Noise magnitude and detectability of chest lesions were better with PCCT than with the DSCT. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare lung image quality obtained with ultra-high resolution (UHR) spectral photon-counting CT (SPCCT) with that of dual-layer CT (DLCT), at standard and low dose levels using an image quality phantom and an anthropomorphic lung phantom., Methods: An image quality phantom was scanned using a clinical SPCCT prototype and an 8 cm collimation DLCT from the same manufacturer at 10 mGy. Additional acquisitions at 6 mGy were performed with SPCCT only. Images were reconstructed with dedicated high-frequency reconstruction kernels, slice thickness between 0.58 and 0.67 mm, and matrix between 512 2 and 1024 2 mm, using a hybrid iterative algorithm at level 6. Noise power spectrum (NPS), task-based transfer function (TTF) for iodine and air inserts, and detectability index (d') were assessed for ground-glass and solid nodules of 2 mm to simulate highly detailed lung lesions. Subjective analysis of an anthropomorphic lung phantom was performed by two radiologists using a five-point quality score., Results: At 10 mGy, noise magnitude was reduced by 29.1 % with SPCCT images compared to DLCT images for all parameters (27.1 ± 11.0 [standard deviation (SD)] HU vs. 38.2 ± 1.0 [SD] HU, respectively). At 6 mGy with SPCCT images, noise magnitude was reduced by 8.9 % compared to DLCT images at 10 mGy (34.8 ± 14.1 [SD] HU vs. 38.2 ± 1.0 [SD] HU, respectively). At 10 mGy and 6 mGy, average NPS spatial frequency (f av ) was greater for SPCCT images (0.75 ± 0.17 [SD] mm -1 ) compared to DLCT images at 10 mGy (0.55 ± 0.04 [SD] mm -1 ) while remaining constant from 10 to 6 mGy. At 10 mGy, TTF at 50 % (f 50 ) was greater for SPCCT images (0.92 ± 0.08 [SD] mm -1 ) compared to DLCT images (0.67 ± 0.06 [SD] mm -1 ) for both inserts. At 6 mGy, f 50 decreased by 1.1 % for SPCCT images, while remaining greater compared to DLCT images at 10 mGy (0.91 ± 0.06 [SD] mm -1 vs. 0.67 ± 0.06 [SD] mm -1 , respectively). At both dose levels, d' were greater for SPCCT images compared to DLCT for all clinical tasks. Subjective analysis performed by two radiologists revealed a greater median image quality for SPCCT (5; Q1, 4; Q3, 5) compared to DLCT images (3; Q1, 3; Q3, 3)., Conclusion: UHR SPCCT outperforms DLCT in terms of image quality for lung imaging. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess image-quality and dose reduction potential using a photon-counting computed tomography (PCCT) system by comparison with two different dual-source CT (DSCT) systems using two phantoms., Materials and Methods: Acquisitions on phantoms were performed using two DSCT systems (DSCT1 [Somatom Force] and DSCT2 [Somatom Pro.Pulse]) and one PCCT system (Naeotom Alpha) at four dose levels (13/6/3.4/1.8 mGy). Noise power spectrum (NPS) and task-based transfer function (TTF) were computed to assess noise magnitude and noise texture and spatial resolution (f 50 ), respectively. Detectability indexes (d') were computed to model the detection of abdominal lesions: one unenhanced high-contrast task, one contrast-enhanced high-contrast task and one unenhanced low-contrast task. Image quality was subjectively assessed on an anthropomorphic phantom by two radiologists., Results: For all dose levels, noise magnitude values were lower with PCCT than with DSCTs. For all CT systems, similar noise texture values were found at 13 and 6 mGy, but the greatest noise texture values were found for DSCT2 and the lowest for PCCT at 3.4 and 1.8 mGy. For high-contrast inserts, similar or lower f 50 values were found with PCCT than with DSCT1 and the opposite pattern was found for the low-contrast insert. For the three simulated lesions, d' values were greater with PCCT than with DSCTs. Abdominal images were rated satisfactory for clinical use by the radiologists for all dose levels with PCCT and for 13 and 6 mGy with DSCTs., Conclusion: By comparison with DSCTs, PCCT reduces image-noise and improves detectability of simulated abdominal lesions without altering the spatial resolution and image texture. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare ultra-low dose (ULD) and standard low-dose (SLD) chest computed tomography (CT) in terms of radiation exposure, image quality and diagnostic value for diagnosing pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT)., Materials and Methods: In this prospective board-approved study consecutive patients with HHT referred to a reference center for screening and/or follow-up chest CT examination were prospectively included from December 2020 to January 2022. Patients underwent two consecutive non-contrast chest CTs without dose modulation (i.e., one ULD protocol [80 kVp or 100 kVp, CTDIvol of 0.3 mGy or 0.6 mGy] and one SLD protocol [140 kVp, CTDIvol of 1.3 mGy]). Objective image noises measured at the level of tracheal carina were compared between the two protocols. Overall image quality and diagnostic confidence were scored on a 4-point Likert scale (1 = insufficient to 4 = excellent). Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of ULD CT for diagnosing pulmonary AVM with a feeding artery of over 2 mm in diameter were calculated along with their 95% confidence intervals (CI) using SLD images as the standard of reference., Results: A total of 44 consecutive patients with HHT (31 women; mean age, 42 ± 16 [standard deviation (SD)] years; body mass index, 23.2 ± 4.5 [SD] kg/m 2 ) were included. Thirty-four pulmonary AVMs with a feeding artery of over 2 mm in diameter were found with SLD images versus 35 with ULD images. Sensitivity, specificity, predictive positive value, and predictive negative value of ULD CT for the diagnosis of PAVM were 100% (34/34; 95% CI: 90-100), 96% (18/19; 95% CI: 74-100), 97% (34/35; 95% CI: 85-100) and 100% (18/18; 95% CI: 81-100), respectively. A significant difference in diagnostic confidence scores was found between ULD (3.8 ± 0.4 [SD]) and SLD (3.9 ± 0.1 [SD]) CT images (P = 0.03). No differences in overall image quality scores were found between ULD CT examinations (3.9 ± 0.2 [SD]) and SLD (4 ± 0 [SD]) CT examinations (P = 0.77). Effective radiation dose decreased significantly by 78.8% with ULD protocol, with no significant differences in noise values between ULD CT images (16.7 ± 5.0 [SD] HU) and SLD images (17.7 ± 6.6 [SD] HU) (P = 0.07)., Conclusion: ULD chest CT provides 100% sensitivity and 96% specificity for the diagnosis of treatable pulmonary AVM with a feeding artery of over 2 mm in diameter, leading to a 78.8% dose-saving compared with a standard low-dose protocol., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest Hugo Lacombe is an employee of Philips Healthcare. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the diagnostic performance of an artificial intelligence (AI) solution for the detection of fractures of pelvic, proximal femur or extremity fractures in adults with radiologist interpretation of radiographs, using standard dose CT examination as the standard of reference., Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 94 adult patients with suspected bone fractures who underwent a standard dose CT examination and radiographs of the pelvis and/or hip and extremities at our institution between January 2022 and August 2023. For all patients, an AI solution was used retrospectively on the radiographs to detect and localize bone fractures of the pelvis and/or hip and extremities. Results of the AI solution were compared to the reading of each radiograph by a radiologist using McNemar test. The results of standard dose CT examination as interpreted by a senior radiologist were used as the standard of reference., Result: A total of 94 patients (63 women; mean age, 56.4 ± 22.5 [standard deviation] years) were included. Forty-seven patients had at least one fracture, and a total of 71 fractures were deemed present using the standard of reference (25 hand/wrist, 16 pelvis, 30 foot/ankle). Using the standard of reference, the analysis of radiographs by the AI solution resulted in 58 true positive, 13 false negative, 33 true negative and 15 false positive findings, yielding 82 % sensitivity (58/71; 95 % confidence interval [CI]: 71-89 %), 69 % specificity (33/48; 95 % CI: 55-80 %), and 76 % accuracy (91/119; 95 % CI: 69-84 %). Using the standard of reference, the reading of the radiologist resulted in 65 true positive, 6 false negative, 42 true negative and 6 false positive findings, yielding 92 % sensitivity (65/71; 95 % CI: 82-96 %), 88 % specificity (42/48; 95 % CI: 75-94 %), and 90 % accuracy (107/119; 95 % CI: 85-95 %). The radiologist outperformed the AI solution in terms of sensitivity (P = 0.045), specificity (P = 0.016), and accuracy (P < 0.001)., Conclusion: In this study, the radiologist outperformed the AI solution for the diagnosis of pelvic, hip and extremity fractures of the using radiographs. Background: Image-guided percutaneous lung biopsy (PLB) may lead to major complications requiring hospitalization. This study aims to evaluate the rate of major PLB complications and determine a predictive computed tomography (CT) score to define patients requiring hospitalization due to these complications., Methods: This single-center retrospective study included all PLBs performed from July 2019 to December 2020 in Nimes University Hospital, France. Patients who were undergoing thermo-ablation during the same procedure or for whom PLB procedure data were not available were excluded. All major complications leading to hospitalization were recorded. A Percutaneous Image-guided Lung biopsy In/out Patient score (PILIP) based on variables significantly associated with major complications was calculated by multivariate analysis., Results: A total of 240 consecutive patients (160 men, 80 women; mean age: 67.3±10.5 years) were included. The major complication rate was 10.4%. Length of lung parenchyma traversed <20 vs . 20-40 mm [P=0.017, odds ratio (OR) =5.02; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.33-18.92] and vs . >40 mm (P=0.010, OR =6.15; 95% CI: 1.54-24.53), middle vs . superior lobar location (P=0.011, OR =6.34; 95% CI: 1.53-26.31), emphysema along the needle pathway (P<0.0001, OR =10.96; 95% CI: 3.61-33.28), and pleural/scissural attraction (P=0.023, OR =3.50; 95% CI: 1.19-10.32) were independently associated with major complications. Based on these parameters, the PILIP made it possible to differentiate low-risk patients (PILIP <4) from those at high risk (PILIP ≥4) of major complications with 0.40 sensitivity (95% CI: 0.21-0.59), 0.95 specificity (95% CI: 0.93-0.98), a positive predictive value of 0.50 (95% CI: 0.28-0.72) and a negative predictive value of 0.93 (95% CI: 0.90-0.97)., Conclusions: PLB showed a major complication rate of 10.4%. Noise power spectrum and task-based transfer function were evaluated from 40 to 70 keV on VMIs to assess noise magnitude and noise texture (f av ) and spatial resolution on two iodine inserts (f 50 ), respectively. A detectability index (d') was computed to assess the detection of two contrast-enhanced lesions according to the energy level used., Results: For all energy levels, noise magnitude values were lower with PCCT than with DSCT at 11 and 6 mGy, but greater at 1.8 mGy. f av values were higher with PCCT than with DSCT at 11 mGy (8.6 ± 1.5 [standard deviation [SD]%), similar at 6 mGy (1.6 ± 1.5 [SD]%) and lower at 1.8 mGy (-17.8 ± 2.2 [SD]%). For both inserts, f 50 values were higher with PCCT than DSCT at 11- and 6 mGy for all keV levels, except at 6 mGy and 40 keV. d' values were higher with PCCT than with DSCT at 11- and 6 mGy for all keV and both simulated lesions. Purpose: To compare the spectral performance of two different DSCT (DSCT-Pulse and DSCT-Force) on virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs) at low energy levels., Methods: An image quality phantom was scanned on the two DSCTs at three dose levels: 11/6/1.8 mGy. Level 3 of an advanced modeled iterative reconstruction algorithm was used. Noise power spectrum and task-based transfer function were computed on VMIs from 40 to 70 keV to assess noise magnitude and noise texture (f av ) and spatial resolution (f 50 ). A detectability index (d') was computed to assess the detection of one contrast-enhanced abdominal lesion as a function of the keV level used., Results: For all dose levels and all energy levels, noise magnitude was significantly higher (p < 0.05) with DSCT-Pulse than with DSCT-Force (12.6 ± 2.7 % at 1.8 mGy, 9.1 ± 2.9 % at 6 mGy and 4.0 ± 2.7 % at 11 mGy). For all energy levels, f av values were significantly higher (p < 0.05) with DSCT-Pulse than with DSCT-Force at 1.8 mGy (4.8 ± 3.9 %) and at 6 mGy (5.5 ± 2.5 %) but similar at 11 mGy (0.2 ± 3.6 %; p = 0.518). For all energy levels, f 50 values were significantly higher with DSCT-Pulse than with DSCT-Force (12.7 ± 5.6 % at 1.8 mGy, 17.9 ± 4.5 % at 6 mGy and 13.1 ± 2.6 % at 11 mGy). For all keV, similar d' values were found with both DSCT-Force and DSCT-Pulse at 11 mGy (-1.0 ± 3.1 %; p = 0.084). Background: The last decade has seen a surge in the demand for imaging exams in emergency radiology (ER), necessitating an evolution in organizational systems for departments offering round-the-clock care, while safeguarding patient care quality and physician well-being to prevent burnout., Purpose: To develop a nationwide overview of ER organizations in France and identify structures that promote job satisfaction., Material and Methods: Two surveys were sent to 709 radiological centers across France from March to June 2022, inquiring about organizational aspects and quality of life (QOL), incorporating four validated QOL questionnaires. The organization of each center was mapped, and correlations between respondent characteristics and mental health were analyzed using Pearson's and Wilcoxon tests., Results: A total of 284 centers answered the organizational survey, with a response rate of about 41.6%. Among them, there were 32 university hospitals, 208 general hospitals, 2 teaching army hospitals, and 42 private facilities. Of these, night-time operations showed 14% on-site coverage, 12% on-call from home, 69% utilized external teleradiology, and 4% used in-house teleradiology. These trends persisted over weekends and holidays. Regarding the quality of working life, academic, general, and private radiologists are more satisfied with their practice compared to trainees. Depersonalization, part of the three dimensions of burnout, was high in every class, at 60% (n = 210/350)., Conclusion: Outside of university hospitals, most radiology centers in France no longer have on-site radiologists during off hours. Residents are prone to lower job satisfaction and quality of life than more experienced radiologists., Clinical Relevance Statement: The survey illustrates how French ER is structured, pointing out the escalating significance of teleradiology and noting that radiologists generally experience high job satisfaction while also confronting typical organizational challenges., Key Points: The need for continuous radiology coverage comes with unique logistical challenges, especially in ER. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the performance of Precise IQ Engine (PIQE) and Advanced intelligent Clear-IQ Engine (AiCE) algorithms on image-quality according to the dose level in a cardiac computed tomography (CT) protocol., Materials and Methods: Acquisitions were performed using the CT ACR 464 phantom at three dose levels (volume CT dose indexes: 7.1/5.2/3.1 mGy) using a prospective cardiac CT protocol. Raw data were reconstructed using the three levels of AiCE and PIQE (Mild, Standard and Strong). The noise power spectrum (NPS) and task-based transfer function (TTF) for bone and acrylic inserts were computed. The detectability index (d') was computed to model the detectability of the coronary lumen (350 Hounsfield units and 4-mm diameter) and non-calcified plaque (40 Hounsfield units and 2-mm diameter)., Results: Noise magnitude values were lower with PIQE than with AiCE (-13.4 ± 6.0 [standard deviation (SD)] % for Mild, -20.4 ± 4.0 [SD] % for Standard and -32.6 ± 2.6 [SD] % for Strong levels). The average NPS spatial frequencies shifted towards higher frequencies with PIQE than with AiCE (21.9 ± 3.5 [SD] % for Mild, 20.1 ± 3.0 [SD] % for Standard and 12.5 ± 3.5 [SD] % for Strong levels). The TTF values at fifty percent (f 5 0 ) values shifted towards higher frequencies with PIQE than with AiCE for acrylic inserts but, for bone inserts, f 50 values were found to be close. Whatever the dose and DLR level, d' values of both simulated cardiac lesions were higher with PIQE than with AiCE. For the simulated coronary lumen, d' values were better by 35.1 ± 9.3 (SD) % on average for all dose levels for Mild, 43.2 ± 5.0 (SD) % for Standard, and 62.6 ± 1.2 (SD) % for Strong levels., Conclusion: Compared to AiCE, PIQE reduced noise, improved spatial resolution, noise texture and detectability of simulated cardiac lesions. Images from 64 patients undergoing an enhanced abdominal-pelvis scan at portal phase in dual-energy CT mode for the diagnosis of colitis or bowel obstruction were retrospectively analyzed. Acquisitions were performed on a third-generation dual-source CT (DSCT) 100/Sn150 kVp. Mixed images were generated, as well as virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs) at 40/50/60/70 keV. Objective image quality was assessed on VMIs and mixed images by measuring contrast, noise and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR). Noise, smoothing and overall image quality were subjectively analyzed by two radiologists using Likert scales. For both patient groups, the noise decreased significantly according to the energy level from 40 to 60 keV by -47.2 ± 24.0% for bowel obstruction and -50.4 ± 18.2% for colitis. It was similar between 60 and 70 keV ( p = 0.475 and 0.059, respectively). Noise values were significantly higher in VMIs than in mixed images, except for 70 keV ( p = 0.53 and 0.071, respectively). Similar results were observed for contrast values, with a decrease between 40 and 70 keV of -56.3 ± 7.9% for bowel obstruction -56.2 ± 10.9% for colitis. The maximum CNR value was found at 60 keV compared to other energy levels and mixed images, but there was no significant difference with the other energy levels apart from 70 keV (-9.7 ± 9.8%) for bowel obstruction and 40 keV (-6.6 ± 8.2%) and 70 keV (-5.8 ± 9.2%) for colitis. The VMIs at 60 keV presented higher scores for all criteria for bowel obstruction and colitis, with no significant difference in smoothing score compared to mixed images ( p = 0.119 and p = 0.888, respectively).

Background: Radiology has always been an attractive specialty for residents, but its attractiveness has recently decreased in France regarding the median choice rank after at the National Residency Board., Aim: To study Radiologists' perceptions and social representations (SRs) among a group of medical students, residents and graduated physicians in France, to better understand the view of Radiologists to debunk stereotypes., Methods: The nationwide web-based survey was based on valid hierarchical evocation methods. We determined the corpus's central core and SRs' principal themes with prototypical and correspondence factor analysis (CFA), respectively., Results: Overall, 419 answers were analyzed. Radiologists' SRs were divided into 3 classes: negative stereotypes of Radiologists, negative stereotypes of the Radiologists' daily practice and Radiologists' skills. After multivariate analysis, variables that seemed to have a positive influence on Radiologists' SRs were considering radiology as a potential choice of specialty (p < 0.001) and the existence of practical experience in Radiology (p = 0.008). Women seemed to have a more negative SR of Radiologists than men (p = 0.035)., Discussion: This was the largest qualitative study on the subject and the only one among medical students, residents and graduated physicians, allowing a global picture. SRs of Radiologists seemed to be negative, potentially caused by poor knowledge of the Radiologists' profession., Conclusion: SRs of Radiologists among medical students and graduated physicians appears to be negative. Background: Recently, a second generation of split filter dual-energy CT (SFCT) platform has been developed. The thicknesses of the gold and tin filters used to obtain both low- and high-energy spectra have been changed. These differences in filter thickness may affect the spectral separation between the two spectra and thus the quality of spectral images., Purpose: To compare the spectral performance of two Split-Filter Dual-Energy CT systems (SFCT-1 st and SFCT-2 nd ) on virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs) and iodine map., Methods: A Multi-Energy CT phantom was scanned on two SFCT with a tube voltage of 120 kVp for both systems (SFCT-1 st -120 and SFCT-2 nd -120) and 140 kVp only for the second generation (SFCT-2 nd -140). Acquisitions were performed on the phantom with a CTDI vol close to 11 mGy. Noise power spectrum (NPS) and task-based transfer function (TTF) were evaluated on VMIs from 40 to 70 keV. A detectability index (d') was computed to assess the detection of two contrast-enhanced lesions on VMIs. Hounsfield Unit (HU) accuracy was assessed on VMIs and the accuracy of iodine concentration was assessed on iodine maps., Results: For all keV, noise magnitude values were lower with the SFCT-2 nd -120 than with the SFCT-1 st -120 (on average: -22.5 ± 2.9%) and higher with the SFCT-2 nd -140 than with the SFCT-2 nd -120 (on average: 25.0 ± 6.2%). Average NPS spatial frequencies (f av ) were lower with the SFCT-1 st -120 than with the SFCT-2 nd -120 (-6.0 ± 0.5%) and the SFCT-2 nd -140 (-3.6 ± 1.6%). Similar TTF 50% values were found for both systems and both kVp for blood and iodine inserts at 2 mg/mL (0.29 ± 0.01 mm -1 ) and at 4 mg/mL (0.31 ± 0.01 mm -1 ). d' values peaked at 40 keV for the SFCT-2 nd and at 70 keV for the SFCT-1 st . Highest d' values were found for the SFCT-2 nd -120 for both simulated lesions. Kidney cancer accounts for 3% of adult malignancies and is increasingly detected through advanced imaging techniques, highlighting the need for effective treatment strategies. This retrospective study assessed the safety and efficacy of a new single-probe percutaneous cryoablation system using liquid nitrogen for treating T1a renal cancers. From May 2019 to May 2022, 25 consecutive patients from two academic hospitals, with a median age of 64.8 years [IQR 59; 75.5], underwent cryoablation for 26 T1a renal tumors. These tumors had a median size of 25.3 mm [20; 30.7] and a median RENAL nephrometry score, indicating tumor complexity, of 7 [5; 9]. No major complications arose, but three non-clinically relevant perirenal hematomas were detected on post-procedure CT scans. With a median follow-up of 795 days [573; 1020], the primary local control rate at one month stood was 80.8% (21 out of 26). The five recurrent lesions, which exhibited a higher renal score ( p = 0.016), were treated again using cryoablation, achieving a secondary local control rate of 100%. No patient died, and the disease-free survival rate was 92% (23 out of 25). In conclusion, single-probe percutaneous cryoablation emerges as a promising modality for managing small renal masses. Notably, recurrence rates appear influenced by RENAL nephrometry scores, suggesting a need for further research to refine the technique.

A wide variety of coils are available for vascular embolization. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a new Prestige coil. We carried out retrospective analysis of a multicenter's registry data collected between February 2022 and November 2022. The choice of embolization agent used to treat peripheral vascular anomalies was left to the investigator's discretion. Patients for whom at least one Prestige coil was used were included in Series 1. All other patients were included in Series 2. Efficacy and safety were evaluated. Patients were followed up for one month. In total, 220 patients were included, 110 in each series. Patients included 149 men (67.7%) and 71 women (32.3%), with a median age of 62.5 years (IQR: 35.8-73). Patient ages were similar in the two series. Complete occlusion of the targeted vessel was reported in 96.4% ( n = 106/110) of patients in Series 1 and in 99.7% ( n = 109/110) in Series 2. Four patients experienced non-serious adverse events (1.8%, n = 4/220): one experienced back pain and one vomiting in Series 1; one patient had off-target embolization and one a puncture site hematoma in Series 2. Sixteen patients (7.2%, n = 16/220) were lost to follow up. Improvement in the patient's general state at one month was reported in 79.0% ( n = 83/105) of patients in Series 1 and in 74.7% ( n = 74/99) in Series 2. Ten deaths occurred, five in Series 1 (4.8%, n = 5/105) and five in Series 2 (5.1%, n = 5/99). These deaths all concerned critically ill patients embolized for emergent arterial bleeding. In conclusion, the 1-month follow-up showed that Prestige coils, alone or in combination, are efficient and safe.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of a tin filter on the image quality of ultra-low dose (ULD) chest computed tomography (CT) on three different CT systems., Materials and Methods: An image quality phantom was scanned on three CT systems including two split-filter dual-energy CT (SFCT-1 and SFCT-2) scanners and one dual-source CT scanner (DSCT). Acquisitions were performed with a volume CT dose index (CTDI vol ) of 0.4 mGy, first at 100 kVp without tin filter (Sn), and second, at Sn100/Sn140 kVp, Sn100/Sn110/Sn120/Sn130/Sn140/Sn150 kVp and Sn100/Sn150 kVp for SFCT-1, SFCT-2 and DSCT respectively. Noise-power-spectrum and task-based transfer function were computed. The detectability index (d') was computed to model the detection of two chest lesions., Results: For DSCT and SFCT-1, noise magnitude values were higher with 100kVp than with Sn100 kVp and with Sn140 kVp or Sn150 kVp than with Sn100 kVp. For SFCT-2, noise magnitude increased from Sn110 kVp to Sn150 kVp and was higher at Sn100 kVp than at Sn110 kVp. For most kVp with the tin filter, the noise amplitude values were lower than those obtained at 100 kVp. For each CT system, noise texture and spatial resolution values were similar with 100 kVp and with all kVp used with a tin filter. The purpose of this study was to compare the quality of low-energy virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs) obtained with three Dual-Energy CT (DECT) platforms according to the phantom diameter. Three sections of the Mercury Phantom 4.0 were scanned on two generations of split-filter CTs (SFCT-1st and SFCT-2nd) and on one Dual-source CT (DSCT). The noise power spectrum (NPS), task-based transfer function (TTF), and detectability index (d') were assessed on VMIs from 40 to 70 keV. The highest noise magnitude values were found with SFCT-1st and noise magnitude was higher with DSCT than with SFCT-2nd for 26 cm (10.2% ± 1.3%) and 31 cm (7.0% ± 2.5%), and the opposite for 36 cm (-4.2% ± 2.5%). The highest average NPS spatial frequencies and TTF values at 50% (f 50 ) values were found with DSCT. For all energy levels, the f 50 values were higher with SFCT-2nd than SFCT-1st for 26 cm (3.2% ± 0.4%) and the opposite for 31 cm (-6.9% ± 0.5%) and 36 cm (-5.6% ± 0.7%). The lowest d' values were found with SFCT-1st. For all energy levels, the d' values were lower with DSCT than with SFCT-2nd for 26 cm (-6.2% ± 0.7%), similar for 31 cm (-0.3% ± 1.9%) and higher for 36 cm (5.4% ± 2.7%). In conclusion, compared to SFCT-1st, SFCT-2nd exhibited a lower noise magnitude and higher detectability values. Compared with DSCT, SFCT-2nd had a lower noise magnitude and higher detectability for the 26 cm, but the opposite was true for the 36 cm.

Objectives: To evaluate the quality of virtual monochromatic images (VMIs) from spectral photon-counting CT (SPCCT) and two energy-integrating detector dual-energy CT (EID-DECT) scanners from the same manufacturer, for the coronary lumen., Methods: A 21-cm section of the Mercury v4.0 phantom was scanned using a cardiac CT protocol. VMIs from 40 to 90 keV were reconstructed using high-resolution (HR) parameters for EID-DECT and SPCCT (CB and HRB kernels at 0.67 mm slice thickness, respectively). Ultra-high-resolution (UHR) parameters were used in addition to SPCCT (detailed-2 kernel, 0.43 mm slice thickness). Noise-power-spectrum (NPS), task-based transfer function (TTF), and detectability index (d') were computed for 2-mm-diameter lumen detection. In consensus, two radiologists analyzed the quality of the images from 8 patients who underwent coronary CTA on both CT systems., Results: For all keV images, f peak , f 50 , and d' were higher with SPCCT. The f peak and f 50 were higher with UHR-SPCCT with greater noise and lower d' compared to those of the HR-SPCCT images. Noise magnitude was constant for all energy levels (keV) with both systems, and lower with HR images, and d' decreased as keV decreased. Subjective analysis showed greater lumen sharpness and overall quality for HR and UHR-SPCCT images using all keV, with a greater difference at low keV compared to HR-EID-DECT images., Conclusion: HR and UHR-SPCCT images gave greater detectability of the coronary lumen for 40 to 90 keV VMIs compared to two EID-DECT systems, with benefits of higher lumen sharpness and overall quality., Key Points: • Compared with 2 dual-energy CT systems, spectral photon-counting CT (SPCCT) improved spatial resolution, noise texture, noise magnitude, and detectability of the coronary lumen. • Use of ultra-high-resolution parameters with SPCCT improved spatial resolution and noise texture and provided high detectability of the coronary lumen, despite an increase in noise magnitude. • In eight patients, radiologists found greater overall image quality with SPCCT for all virtual monochromatic images with a greater difference at low keV, compared with dual-energy CT systems., (© 2023. The use of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) has increased in cancer patients. This study aimed to compare the incidence of PICC-related bloodstream infections (PICCR-BSIs) in cancer patients treated with chemotherapy and in noncancer patients. We performed a secondary analysis from a retrospective, single-center, observational cohort. The PICCR-BSI incidence rates in cancer and noncancer patients were compared after 1:1 propensity-score matching. Then, the factors associated with PICCR-BSI were assessed in a Cox model. Among the 721 PICCs (627 patients) included in the analysis, 240 were placed in cancer patients for chemotherapy and 481 in noncancer patients. After propensity-score matching, the PICCR-BSI incidence rate was 2.6 per 1000 catheter days in cancer patients and 1.0 per 1000 catheter days in noncancer patients ( p < 0.05). However, after adjusting for variables resulting in an imbalance between groups after propensity-score matching, only the number of PICC lumens was independently associated with PICCR-BSI (adjusted hazard ratio 1.81, 95% confidence interval: 1.01-3.22; p = 0.04). In conclusion, the incidence rate of PICCR-BSI is higher in cancer patients treated with chemotherapy than in noncancer patients, but our results also highlight the importance of limiting the number of PICC lumens in such patients.

The spleen is the most commonly injured organ in blunt abdominal trauma. Its management depends on hemodynamic stability. According to the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma-Organ Injury Scale (AAST-OIS ≥ 3), stable patients with high-grade splenic injuries may benefit from preventive proximal splenic artery embolization (PPSAE). This ancillary study, using the SPLASH multicenter randomized prospective cohort, evaluated the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of PPSAE in patients with high-grade blunt splenic trauma without vascular anomaly on the initial CT scan. All patients included were over 18 years old, had high-grade splenic trauma (≥AAST-OIS 3 + hemoperitoneum) without vascular anomaly on the initial CT scan, received PPSAE, and had a CT scan at one month. Technical aspects, efficacy, and one-month splenic salvage were studied. Fifty-seven patients were reviewed. Technical efficacy was 94% with only four proximal embolization failures due to distal coil migration. Six patients (10.5%) underwent combined embolization (distal + proximal) due to active bleeding or focal arterial anomaly discovered during embolization. The mean procedure time was 56.5 min (SD = 38.1 min). Embolization was performed with an Amplatzer™ vascular plug in 28 patients (49.1%), a Penumbra occlusion device in 18 patients (31.6%), and microcoils in 11 patients (19.3%). There were two hematomas (3.5%) at the puncture site without clinical consequences. There were no rescue splenectomies. Two patients were re-embolized, one on Day 6 for an active leak and one on Day 30 for a secondary aneurysm. Primary clinical efficacy was, therefore, 96%. There were no splenic abscesses or pancreatic necroses. The splenic salvage rate on Day 30 was 94%, while only three patients (5.2%) had less than 50% vascularized splenic parenchyma. PPSAE is a rapid, efficient, and safe procedure that can prevent splenectomy in high-grade spleen trauma (AAST-OIS) ≥ 3 with high splenic salvage rates.

Background: Microvascular obstruction (MVO) is associated with greater infarct size, adverse left-ventricular (LV) remodeling and reduced ejection fraction following ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). We hypothesized that patients with MVO may constitute a subgroup of patients that would benefit from intracoronary stem cell delivery with bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMCs) given previous findings that BMCs tended to improve LV function only in patients with significant LV dysfunction., Methods and Results: We analyzed the cardiac MRIs of 356 patients (303 M, 53 F) with anterior STEMIs who received autologous BMCs or placebo / control as part of 4 randomized clinical trials that included the Cardiovascular Cell Therapy Research Network (CCTRN) TIME trial and its pilot, the multicenter French BONAMI trial and SWISS-AMI trials. A total of 327 patients had paired imaging data at 1 year. All patients received 100 to 150 million intracoronary autologous BMCs or placebo / control 3 to 7 days following primary PCI and stenting. LV function, volumes, infarct size and MVO were assessed prior to infusion of BMCs and 1 year later. Patients with MVO (n = 210) had reduced LVEF and much greater infarct size and LV volumes compared to patients without MVO (n = 146) (P < .01). At 12 months, patients with MVO who received BMCs had significantly greater recovery of LVEF compared to those patients with MVO who received placebo (absolute difference = 2.7%; P < .05). Similarly, left-ventricular end-diastolic (LVEDVI) and end-systolic volume indices (LVESVI) demonstrated significantly less adverse remodeling in patients with MVO who received BMCs compared to placebo. In contrast, no improvement in LVEF or LV volumes was observed in those patients without MVO who received BMCs compared to placebo., Conclusions: The presence of MVO on cardiac MRI following STEMI identifies a subgroup of patients who benefit from intracoronary stem cell therapy., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Inc. Purpose: To assess the impact of the automatic tube current modulation (ATCM) on virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs) quality in dual-source CT(DSCT)., Materials and Methods: Acquisitions were performed on DSCT using the Mercury phantom. The acquisition parameters for an abdomen-pelvic examination with single-energy CT(SECT) and dual-energy CT(DECT) imaging were used. Acquisitions were performed for each imaging mode using fixed mAs and ATCM. The mAs value was set to obtain a volume CT dose index of 11 mGy in fixed mAs acquisitions. This value was used as the reference mAs in ATCM acquisitions. The noise power spectrum and task-based transfer function at 40,50,60 and 70 keV levels were computed on VMIs and SECT images. The detectability index (d') was calculated for a lesion with an iodine concentration of 10 mg/mL., Results: The noise magnitude on VMIs was higher with the ATCM system than with fixed mAs for all energy levels and section diameters of 21,26 and 31 cm. The noise texture and spatial resolution were similar between the fixed mAs and ATCM acquisitions for both imaging modes. The d' values were lower for all energy levels with ATCM than with fixed mAs acquisitions for 21 and 26 cm diameters by -39.82 ± 9.32%, similar at 31 cm diameter -4.13 ± 0.24% and higher at 36 cm diameter 10.40 ± 6.69%. Purpose: To compare quantitatively and qualitatively brain image quality acquired in helical and axial modes on two wide collimation CT systems according to the dose level and algorithm used., Methods: Acquisitions were performed on an image quality and an anthropomorphic phantoms at three dose levels (CTDI vol : 45/35/25 mGy) on two wide collimation CT systems (GE Healthcare and Canon Medical Systems) in axial and helical modes. Raw data were reconstructed using iterative reconstruction (IR) and deep-learning image reconstruction (DLR) algorithms. The noise power spectrum (NPS) was computed on both phantoms and the task-based transfer function (TTF) on the image quality phantom. The subjective quality of images from an anthropomorphic brain phantom was evaluated by two radiologists including overall image quality., Results: For the GE system, noise magnitude and noise texture (average NPS spatial frequency) were lower with DLR than with IR. For the Canon system, noise magnitude values were lower with DLR than with IR for similar noise texture but the opposite was true for spatial resolution. For both CT systems, noise magnitude was lower with the axial mode than with the helical mode for similar noise texture and spatial resolution. Radiologists rated the overall quality of all brain images as "satisfactory for clinical use", whatever the dose level, algorithm or acquisition mode., Conclusions: Using 16-cm axial acquisition reduces image noise without changing the spatial resolution and image texture compared to helical acquisitions. The study's aim was to assess the impact of a deep learning image reconstruction algorithm (Precise Image; DLR) on image quality and liver metastasis conspicuity compared with an iterative reconstruction algorithm (IR). This retrospective study included all consecutive patients with at least one liver metastasis having been diagnosed between December 2021 and February 2022. Images were reconstructed using level 4 of the IR algorithm (i4) and the Standard/Smooth/Smoother levels of the DLR algorithm. Mean attenuation and standard deviation were measured by placing the ROIs in the fat, muscle, healthy liver, and liver tumor. Two radiologists assessed the image noise and image smoothing, overall image quality, and lesion conspicuity using Likert scales. The study included 30 patients (mean age 70.4 ± 9.8 years, 17 men). The mean CTDI vol was 6.3 ± 2.1 mGy, and the mean dose-length product 314.7 ± 105.7 mGy.cm. Compared with i4, the HU values were similar in the DLR algorithm at all levels for all tissues studied. For each tissue, the image noise significantly decreased with DLR compared with i4 ( p < 0.01) and significantly decreased from Standard to Smooth (-26 ± 10%; p < 0.01) and from Smooth to Smoother (-37 ± 8%; p < 0.01). The subjective image assessment confirmed that the image noise significantly decreased between i4 and DLR ( p < 0.01) and from the Standard to Smoother levels ( p < 0.01), but the opposite occurred for the image smoothing. The highest scores for overall image quality and conspicuity were found for the Smooth and Smoother levels.

Background: A nation-wide study recently published the dose reference levels for the main CT-guided interventional procedures in 5001 patients. We assessed the impact of patient's age, sex and targeted organ on the patient dose during thoracic and abdominopelvic biopsies and punctures/drainages., Patients and Methods: Data were extracted from the previous nationwide study. All biopsies, punctures and drainages for thoracic or abdominopelvic locations performed between January 2017 and June 2019 in all participating centers were included in the study. Multivariable analyses were carried out using a linear regression of the dose-length product (DLP) log, adjusted to age, sex, anatomical location, number of helical acquisitions and inclusion center., Results: Of the 5001 patients of the initial study, 2383 benefited from thoracic or abdominopelvic procedures, including 674 percutaneous destructions excluded. 1709 patients (44 centers), 1045 men, 664 women, median age 64.4 ± 14.0 years were included. The mean DLP was 751.2 ± 642.7mGy.cm. It was significantly higher in men than women ( p  = 0.0005) and higher for abdominopelvic procedures than for thoracic locations ( p <0.0001)., Conclusion: Doses delivered to patients for abdominal and thoracic biopsies and punctures/drainages performed under CT guidance depend on gender and location. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of the new artificial intelligence deep-learning reconstruction (AI-DLR) algorithm on image quality and radiation dose compared with iterative reconstruction algorithm in lumbar spine computed tomography (CT) examination., Materials and Methods: Acquisitions on phantoms were performed using a tube current modulation system for four DoseRight Indexes (DRI) (i.e., 26/23/20/15). Raw data were reconstructed using the Level 4 of iDose 4 (i4) and three levels of AI-DLR (Smoother/Smooth/Standard) with a bone reconstruction kernel. The Noise power spectrum (NPS), task-based transfer function (TTF) and detectability index (d') were computed (d' modeled detection of a lytic and a sclerotic bone lesions). Image quality was subjectively assessed on an anthropomorphic phantom by two radiologists., Results: The Noise magnitude was lower with AI-DLR than i4 and decreased from Standard to Smooth (-31 ± 0.1 [SD]%) and Smooth to Smoother (-48 ± 0.1 [SD]%). The average NPS spatial frequency was similar with i4 (0.43 ± 0.01 [SD] mm -1 ) and Standard (0.42 ± 0.01 [SD] mm -1 ) but decreased from Standard to Smoother (0.36 ± 0.01 [SD] mm -1 ). TTF values at 50% decreased as the dose decreased but were similar with i4 and all AI-DLR levels. For both simulated lesions, d' values increased from Standard to Smoother levels. Higher detectabilities were found with a DRI at 15 and Smooth and Smoother levels than with a DRI at 26 and i4. Background: Despite their spread in daily practice, few data is available on clinical factors associated with peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC)-related bloodstream infections (PR-BSI). We aimed to assess the PR-BSI incidence, microbiology, and factors associated with PR-BSI with a focus on clinical symptoms., Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study in a French university hospital. We screened all PICC insertions performed from April 1st, 2018, to April 1st, 2019, and included PICC insertions in adult patients. We assessed the PR-BSI incidence, the factors associated with PR-BSI using a Cox model, and negative and positive predictive values (NPVs and PPVs) of each clinical sign for PR-BSI., Results: Of the 901 PICCs inserted in 783 patients (38,320 catheters days), 214 PICCs (24%) presented with a complication. The most prevalent complication was PR-BSI (1.9 per 1000 catheter days; 8.1% of inserted PICCs ). Enterobacterales (N = 27, 37%) and coagulase negative Staphylococci (N = 24, 33%), were the main microorganisms responsible for PR-BSI. Factors independently associated with occurrence of PR-BSI were fever (hazard ratio 13.21, 95% confidence interval 6.00-29.11, p < 0.001) and chills (HR 3.66, 95%CI 1.92-6.99, p < 0.001). All clinical signs and a duration of PICC maintenance ≥ 28 days, had a low PPVs (≤ 67.1%) but high NPVs (≥ 92.5%) for PR-BSI., Conclusions: Monitoring of clinical signs, especially fever and chills, with caution and limitation of device maintenance duration, could improve PICC management., (© 2023. Background: To assess the impact of the new version of a deep learning (DL) spectral reconstruction on image quality of virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs) for contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography in the rapid kV-switching platform., Methods: Two phantoms were scanned with a rapid kV-switching CT using abdomen-pelvic CT examination parameters at dose of 12.6 mGy. Images were reconstructed using two versions of DL spectral reconstruction algorithms (DLSR V1 and V2) for three reconstruction levels. The noise power spectrum (NSP) and task-based transfer function at 50% (TTF 50 ) were computed at 40/50/60/70 keV. A detectability index (d') was calculated for enhanced lesions at low iodine concentrations: 2, 1, and 0.5 mg/mL., Results: The noise magnitude was significantly lower with DLSR V2 compared to DLSR V1 for energy levels between 40 and 60 keV by -36.5% ± 1.4% (mean ± standard deviation) for the standard level. The average NPS frequencies increased significantly with DLSR V2 by 23.7% ± 4.2% for the standard level. The highest difference in TTF 50 was observed at the mild level with a significant increase of 61.7% ± 11.8% over 40-60 keV energy with DLSR V2. The d' values were significantly higher for DLSR V2 versus DLSR V1., Conclusions: The DLSR V2 improves image quality and detectability of low iodine concentrations in VMIs compared to DLSR V1. Objectives: To assess the impact of a new artificial intelligence deep-learning reconstruction (Precise Image; AI-DLR) algorithm on image quality against a hybrid iterative reconstruction (IR) algorithm in abdominal CT for different clinical indications., Methods: Acquisitions on phantoms were performed at 5 dose levels (CTDI vol : 13/11/9/6/1.8 mGy). Raw data were reconstructed using level 4 of iDose 4 (i4) and 3 levels of AI-DLR (Smoother/Smooth/Standard). Noise power spectrum (NPS), task-based transfer function (TTF) and detectability index (d') were computed: d' modelled detection of a liver metastasis (LM) and hepatocellular carcinoma at portal (HCCp) and arterial (HCCa) phases. Image quality was subjectively assessed on an anthropomorphic phantom by 2 radiologists., Results: From Standard to Smoother levels, noise magnitude and average NPS spatial frequency decreased and the detectability (d') of all simulated lesions increased. For both inserts, TTF values were similar for all three AI-DLR levels from 13 to 6 mGy but decreased from Standard to Smoother levels at 1.8 mGy. Compared to the i4 used in clinical practice, d' values were higher using the Smoother and Smooth levels and close for the Standard level. For all dose levels, except at 1.8 mGy, radiologists considered images satisfactory for clinical use for the 3 levels of AI-DLR, but rated images too smooth using the Smoother level., Conclusion: Use of the Smooth and Smoother levels of AI-DLR reduces the image noise and improves the detectability of lesions and spatial resolution for standard and low-dose levels. Purpose: The purpose of this multicenter study was to evaluate the clinical success at three months of prostate artery embolization (PAE), assess PAE safety in centers with various experiences and identify factors associated with PAE success., Patients and Methods: This multicenter, retrospective study included patients who underwent PAE for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) including those with indwelling urinary catheter. PAE clinical success was defined as either 25% improvement of the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) or 1-point improvement of quality of life (QoL) score, or catheter removal at three months. Multivariable analyses were performed using a logistic regression adjusted on patient variables, technical parameters and center experience in PAE., Results: A total of 383 men (mean age, 68.4 ± 9.7 [standard deviation] years; range: 46-94) with LUTS, including 99 (25.8%) patients with indwelling urinary catheter, were included in seven centers from January 2017 to March 2019. Five patients reported major complications (1.3%), three (0.8%) penile ulceration, three (0.8%) acute urinary retention, one (0.3%) prostatic abscess, and 56 (14.6%) minor complications. Follow up data were available for 271 patients (center 1: n = 159; other centers: n = 112). Clinical success was reported in 232 patients (85.6%). In multivariable analyses, presence of cardiovascular comorbidities (diabetes, stroke history, myocardial infarction and lower limb artery disease) was the single independent variable inversely associated with PAE clinical success (odds ratio = 0.396; 95% confidence interval: 0.17-0.91; P = 0.029). There was no center effect., Conclusion: Our results show that PAE is safe and effective in centers with various PAE experiences.
