Over the last several years, there has been an increased awareness regarding consensual sexual relationships (CSRs) between professors and students. Specifically, there has been a growing movement for academic institutions to develop policies addressing, discouraging, and/or prohibiting these relationships due to the potential for sexual harassment cases. Even though the appropriateness of such relationships has been widely debated among the university community, a limited amount of empirical work has examined this issue with the majority focusing on attitudinal studies. The current exploratory study consists of a content analysis of 278 faculty and student responses to the question, "If there is a difference between consensual sexual relationships and sexual harassment, what is it?" Responses indicate that there are several overlapping themes for both faculty and students in how they view these differences, with a large number of responses specifically indicating themes such as "CSR is consensual" while "sexual harassment is one sided." There are also some unique perspectives given by faculty regarding the complexities and acceptability of CSRs, who are generally more specific and nuanced in their answers. Considering the complexities of this issue, it is the recommendation of the current study that much more research fully exploring the attitudes of faculty and students is needed to develop a well-rounded and comprehensive policy.

Between 2001 and 2021, the eight iwi of Taranaki entered into Deeds of Settlement with the Crown. These settlements, which saw the Crown acknowledge and apologise for its historical breaches of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, also served to extinguish the rights of Taranaki Māori to seek further redress from the Crown. The Treaty Settlement process over, Taranaki Māori and the many non-Māori that have settled in the rohe (tribal territory) are left to themselves to deal with any lingering tensions, ongoing enmity and forms of structural injustice stemming from the settler-colonial process. This paper is not about the formal processes of colonisation or Crown-initiated attempts to atone for the past through the Treaty Settlement process. Rather, this paper concerns the painstaking work of change undertaken on the ground by local people, Māori and non-Māori alike. It concerns the 'small stories' of colonisation, the myriad endeavours of local people working for change in local contexts. In particular, the article concerns the fight for Māori wards on Councils in New Plymouth and South Taranaki, and the extraordinary work done by ordinary people in attempting to forge some kind of future of togetherness in a region riven by the violence of colonisation. Inland Revenue (IR) in New Zealand is currently increasing its information sharing activity with other government departments and agencies. This is in line with the New Zealand government's Better Public Services programme, and will improve the quality and speed of IR's services to business and individual customers, and support other government departments in meeting their objectives. IR was aware that customers would be sensitive about how information sharing by government departments would affect their right to privacy. Therefore, to contribute to its policy development, IR researched views of the general public, businesses, cultural groups, tax agents and law groups in five studies conducted between 2010 and 2013. These studies included two multi-method studies involving quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews and three qualitative studies. This paper combines the findings from all five studies, with a particular emphasis on the three most recent studies: 1. Public perspectives on sharing of individuals' information to combat serious crime 2. Cultural perspectives from Māori, Pasifika and Asian communities on the sharing of individuals' information 3. Businesses and key informants' perspectives on the sharing of businesses' information. The key findings were that: There was cautious support for cross-government information sharing, balanced with a strong desire for privacy, particularly regarding income and debt information. Participants' perceptions regarding the integrity of the tax system were most positively influenced by scenarios of IR being involved in information sharing targeting. Protecting public monies (especially from tax and benefit fraud). Ensuring customers receive their correct entitlements. Making it easier for customers to deal with their tax matters. The main concerns were regarding the potential misuse of information by government agencies, the accuracy of the information, and the security of government agencies' information handling processes. There was a desire for transparency of information sharing processes, and customers to be asked for consent for information sharing where feasible. IR will use these findings in developing its policies and processes for increased information sharing with other government agencies, paying particular attention to the areas of risk to public perceptions of the integrity of the tax system. This paper proposes using Tupua te Kawa – a set of Indigenous values at law – together with tribal, kaupapa Māori (Māori approach) and Indigenous methodologies, to introduce a framework for facilitating non-Indigenous organisations’ engagement with and implementation of Indigenous knowledges, values and practices. The framework recognises that Tupua te Kawa, an outcome of giving legal personhood to the Whanganui River via Te Awa Tupua (Whanganui River Settlement Claims) Act 2017, can be a reorientation to Indigenous methodologies by non-Indigenous organisations. This paper provides strength-based examples of how non-Indigenous organisations can engage with Indigenous knowledges, values and practices appropriately and effectively through Indigenous methodologies. The paper illustrates the critical role Indigenous methodologies play when connecting Indigenous frameworks to Indigenous worldviews, peoples, knowledges, values and practices. To highlight the criticality of honouring Indigenous languages when seeking to understand Indigenous worldviews, te reo Māori (the Māori language) with translations is used throughout, which is necessary to receive the full benefit of the paper.
