The electroactive orthophosphate Na2Co2Fe(PO4)3 was synthesized using a solid state reaction. Its crystal structure was solved using the combination of powder X-ray- and neutron-diffraction data. This material crystallizes according to the alluaudite structure (S.G. C2/c). The structure consists of edge sharing [MO6] octahedra (M = Fe, Co) resulting in chains parallel to [−101]. These chains are linked together via the [PO4] tetrahedra to form two distinct tunnels in which sodium cations are located. The electrochemical properties of Na2Co2Fe(PO4)3 were evaluated by galvanostatic charge–discharge cycling. During the first discharge to 0.03 V, Na2Co2Fe(PO4)3 delivers a specific capacity of 604 mA h g−1. This capacity is equivalent to the reaction of more than seven sodium ions per formula unit. Hence, this is a strong indication of a conversion-type reaction with the formation of metallic Fe and Co. The subsequent charge and discharge involved the reaction of fewer Na ions as expected for a conversion reaction. When discharged to 0.9 V, the material intercalated only one Na+-ion leading to the formation of a new phase Na3Co2Fe(PO4)3. This phase could then be cycled reversibly with an average voltage of 3.6 V vs. Na+/Na and a capacity of 110 mA h g−1. This result is in good agreement with the theoretical capacity expected from the extraction/insertion of two sodium atoms in Na3Co2Fe(PO4)3. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: The poultry industry represents an important economic sector in Tunisia. This study aims to determine the antimicrobial resistance phenotypes and genotypes and virulence factors of enterococci collected from chicken caecum in Tunisia., Methods and Results: Forty-nine composite chicken caecum samples were recovered in 49 different Tunisian farms (December 2019-March 2020). Each composite sample corresponds to six individual caecum from each farm. Composite samples were plated on Slanetz-Bartley agar both supplemented (SB-Van) and not supplemented (SB) with vancomycin and isolates were identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight. Antibiotic resistance and virulence genes were tested by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and sequencing and multilocus-sequence-typing of selected enterococci was performed. One hundred sixty seven enterococci of six different species were recovered. Acquired linezolid resistance was detected in 6 enterococci of 4/49 samples (8.1%): (A) four optrA-carrying Enterococcus faecalis isolates assigned to ST792, ST478, and ST968 lineages; (B) two poxtA-carrying Enterococcus faecium assigned to ST2315 and new ST2330. Plasmid typing highlighted the presence of the rep10, rep14, rep7, rep8, and pLG1 in these strains. One vancomycin-resistant E. faecium isolate (typed as ST1091) with vanA gene (included in Tn1546) was detected in SB-Van plates. The gelE, agg, esp, and hyl virulence genes were found in linezolid- and vancomycin-resistant enterococci. High resistance rates were identified in the enterococci recovered in SB plates: tetracycline [74.8%, tet(M) and tet(L) genes], erythromycin [65.9%, erm(B)], and gentamicin [37.1%, aac(6')-Ie-aph(2″)-Ia]., Conclusion: The detection of emerging mechanisms of resistance related to linezolid and vancomycin in the fecal enterococci of poultry farms has public health implications, and further surveillance should be carried out to control their dissemination by the food chain., (© The Author(s) 2024. The present sero-epidemiological survey was designed and conducted to scrutinize the current status of camel-related brucellosis and chlamydiosis in Tunisia. Whole blood and serum samples were collected from 470 dromedaries (Camelus dromedarius) from eight different Tunisian governorates. Serum samples were subjected to indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (iELISA). The detection of Brucella and Chlamydia DNA was performed using conventional PCR targeting the bcsp-31 and 16 S rRNA gene, respectively. Overall, 10/470(2.12%) and 27/470 (5.75%) camels were revealed seropositive to Brucella and Chlamydia, respectively. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed different risk factors associated with these infections. Meaningful high rates of seropositivity of brucellosis (9.5%; p = 0.000; OR=64.193) and chlamydiosis (22.6%; p = 0.000; OR=42.860) were noted among camels showing previous abortions in particular for aged females. Besides, Chlamydia seropositivity is significantly important during winter (12.5%; p = 0.009; OR= 27.533), and in camels raised in small farms (11.4%, p = 0.000, OR=86.052). Molecular analysis revealed no positivity from all analyzed blood samples. These findings indicate the involvement of camels in the epidemiology of these abortive infectious diseases. The new binary sodium magnesium sulfide was prepared by the mechanochemical synthesis route from Na 2 S and MgS as starting materials. Na 6 MgS 4 is extremely sensitive and partially decomposes in the presence of oxygen traces. With the use of an excess of MgS in the milling process, the molar ratio of the impurities was successfully decreased from 38% (Na 2 S + MgO) to 13% MgO. The crystal structure and properties were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, thermogravimetry/differential thermal analysis, scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The Rietveld refinement confirmed that Na 6 MgS 4 is isostructural to Na 6 ZnO 4 . The compound crystallized in the hexagonal system in the non-centro-symmetric space group P 6 3 mc (No. 186) with a = 9.0265(1), c = 6.9524(1) Å, V = 490.58(1) Å 3 , and Z = 2. The structure consisted of a wurtzite-like 3D framework built up of corner-sharing MgS 4 and NaS 4 tetrahedra, with 3/4 of the tunnels, parallel to the c axis, filled with octahedrally coordinated sodium atoms. The ionic conductivity of the composite material (87% Na 6 MgS 4 + 13% MgO) being low (4.4 × 10 -8 S cm -1 with E a = 0.56 eV), indium-doped samples Na 6- x □ x Mg 1- x In x S 4 ( x = 0.05, 0.1) were prepared by the mechanochemical synthesis route. These samples also contained 13% MgO. Their ionic conductivities of 9.3 × 10 -8 S cm -1 ( E a = 0.51 eV) and 2.5 × 10 -7 S cm -1 ( E a = 0.49 eV) at 25 °C for x = 0.05 and 0.1, respectively, were higher than the ionic conductivity of the undoped sample.

Purpose of Review: Despite recent advances, treatment personalization remains an issue for recurrent metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (RM HNSCC) patients. After human papilloma virus (HPV) and programmed death ligand 1 (PDL1) expression, Harvey rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog (HRAS) appears as an emerging target in this field. In this review, we summarize the features of HRAS -mutated HNSCC and its targeting by farnesyl transferase inhibitors., Recent Findings: HRAS mutations define a small subgroup of RM HNSCC patients with a poor prognosis and often refractory to the standard treatments. Posttranslational processing of HRAS being dependent on farnesylation, farnesyl transferase inhibitors have been evaluated in HRAS -mutated tumors. Tipifarnib, a first in class farnesyl transferase inhibitor, has shown efficacy in phase 2 trials with HRAS -mutated tumors. Despite reported high response rates in selected population, the efficacy of Tipifarnib is inconsistent and always transient, probably because of limiting hematological toxicities leading to dose reduction and occurrence of secondary resistance mutations., Summary: Tipifarnib is the first in the class of farnesyl transferase inhibitors to show efficacy in HRAS -mutated RM HNSCC. Heavy metal-tolerant plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) have gained popularity in bioremediation in recent years. A genome-assisted study of a heavy metal-tolerant PGPB Pantoea eucrina OB49 isolated from the rhizosphere of wheat grown on a heavy metal-contaminated site is presented. Comparative pan-genome analysis indicated that OB49 acquired heavy metal resistance genes through horizontal gene transfer. On contigs S10 and S12, OB49 has two arsRBCH operons that give arsenic resistance. On the S12 contig, an arsRBCH operon was discovered in conjunction with the merRTPCADE operon, which provides mercury resistance. P. eucrina OB49 may be involved in an ecological alternative for heavy metal remediation and growth promotion of wheat grown in metal-polluted soils. Necrotic enteritis (NE), caused by Clostridium perfringens, is an emerging issue in poultry farming. New approaches, other than antibiotics, are necessary to prevent NE development and the emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria. Enterococci are commensal microorganisms that can produce enterocins, antimicrobial peptides with activities against pathogens, and could be excellent candidates for protective cultures. This study aimed to screen and characterize Enterococcus strains of poultry origin for their inhibitory activity against C. perfringens . In total, 251 Enterococcus strains of poultry origin plus five bacteriocin-producing (BP+) E. durans strains of other origins were screened for antimicrobial activity against the indicator C. perfringens X2967 strain using the "spot on the lawn" method. We detected thirty-two BP+ strains (eleven Enterococcus faecium , nine E. gallinarum, eight E. faecalis, three E. durans , and one E. casseliflavus ). We further studied the antimicrobial activity of the supernatants of these 32 BP+ strains using agar well diffusion and microtitration against a collection of 20 C. perfringens strains. Twelve BP+ enterococci that were found to exhibit antimicrobial activity against C. perfringens were characterized using whole genome sequencing. Among these, E. faecium X2893 and X2906 were the most promising candidates for further studies as protective cultures for poultry farming. Both strains belong to the sequence type ST722, harbor the genes encoding for enterocin A and enterocin B, do not possess acquired resistance genes, do not carry plasmids, and present the acm gene, which is implicated in host colonization. Further research is needed to determine the utility of these strains as protective cultures.

The present study examined performance in Theory of Mind (ToM) in a group of 31 Arabic-speaking verbal children (7-12 years-old) with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), in comparison with neurotypical controls (NT) matched for age and for cognitive abilities. An innovative task in a digital format named "The Tunisian Social Situations Instrument" (TSSI) was used and allowed us to study four different subdomains of ToM: attribution of intention and epistemic ToM (cognitive ToM), affective ToM, and detection of faux pas (advanced ToM). Our study showed impairments in ToM in children with ASD, similar to those reported in the literature. Our findings additionally suggested that affective and advanced ToM, specifically the detection of faux pas, might be more challenging for ASD children than other components of ToM. Adsorption of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), as well as many other kinds of small molecules, is of importance for industrial and sensing applications. Metal-organic framework (MOF)-based adsorbents are spotlighted for such applications. An essential for MOF adsorbent application is a simple and easy fabrication process, preferably from a cheap, sustainable, and environmentally friendly ligand. Herein, we fabricated a novel structural, thermally stable MOF with fluorescence properties, namely Zn [5-oxo-2,3-dihydro-5H-[1,3]-thiazolo [3,2-a]pyridine-3,7-dicarboxylic acid (TPDCA)] • dimethylformamide (DMF) •0.25 H 2 O (coded as QUF-001 MOF), in solvothermal conditions by using zinc nitrate as a source of metal ion and TPDCA as a ligand easy accessible from citric acid and cysteine. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and microscopic examination revealed the two-dimensional character of the formed MOF. Upon treatment of QUF-001 with organic solvents (such as methanol, isopropanol, chloroform, dimethylformamide, tetrahydrofuran, hexane), interactions were observed and changes in fluorescence maxima as well as in the powder diffraction patterns were noticed, indicating the inclusion and intercalation of the solvents into the interlamellar space of the crystal structure of QUF-001. Furthermore, CO 2 and CH 4 molecule sorption properties for QUF-001 reached up to 1.6 mmol/g and 8.1 mmol/g, respectively, at 298 K and a pressure of 50 bars.

The rapid spread of SARS-CoV-2 clearly demonstrated the potential of zoonotic diseases to cause severe harm to public health. Having limited access to medical care combined with severe underreporting and a lack of active surveillance, Africa carries a high burden of neglected zoonotic diseases. Therefore, the epidemiological monitoring of pathogen circulation is essential. Recently, we found extensive Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) prevalence in free-roaming dromedary camels from southern Tunisia. In this study, we aimed to investigate the seroprevalence, and thus the risk posed to public health, of two additional viral and two bacterial pathogens in Tunisian dromedaries: Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV), foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV), Coxiella burnetii and Brucella spp. via ELISA. With 73.6% seropositivity, most animals had previously been exposed to the causative agent of Q fever, C. burnetii . Additionally, 7.4% and 1.0% of the dromedaries had antibodies against Brucella and RVFV, respectively, while no evidence was found for the occurrence of FMDV. Our studies revealed considerable immunological evidence of various pathogens within Tunisian dromedary camels. Since these animals have intense contact with humans, they pose a high risk of transmitting serious zoonotic diseases during active infection. The identification of appropriate countermeasures is therefore highly desirable.

HLA-G is a non-classical major histocompatibility complex class Ib molecule. Its expression has been described in various cancer types, including ovarian cancer. HLA-G molecule has been implicated in immune escape and in progression of ovarian tumor cells. Our goal was to assess if total soluble (s)HLA-G molecules or HLA-G5 and sHLA-G1 isoforms could be considered as circulating ovarian tumor biomarkers, we measured the concentration of these molecules in ovarian carcinoma patients stratified according with their clinicopathological parameters. sHLA-G, sHLA-G1 and HLA-G5 concentrations were dosed in plasma samples by sandwich-ELISA. The sHLA-G dimerization was analyzed after immunoprecipitation and SDS-PAGE migration. Total sHLA-G and sHLA-G1 levels were significantly represented in plasma of ovarian carcinoma patients compared to healthy controls. sHLA-G1 isoform concentration was highly represented in ovarian carcinoma compared to HLA-G5 isoforms. Additionally, high sHLA-G molecules have been found in aged patients, as well as in patients with advanced stages, and those with metastatic lymph nodes and those with distant metastasis. Elsewhere, sHLA-G monomers were highly represented in ovarian carcinoma patients compared to controls. sHLA-G plasmatic protein was highly represented in ovarian carcinoma. In effect, HLA-G might be considered as a new checkpoint molecule that could be used to assess progression and recurrence of the disease, thus placing it as a potential biomarker for advanced and complicated ovarian carcinoma., (© 2021 John Wiley & Sons A/S. Free-roaming camels, especially those crossing national borders, pose a high risk for spreading Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV). To prevent outbreaks, active surveillance is necessary. We found that a high percentage of dromedaries in Tunisia are MERS-CoV seropositive (80.4%) or actively infected (19.8%), indicating extensive MERS-CoV circulation in Northern Africa.

The new compounds NaMV 2 (PO 4 ) 3 (M = Fe, Co, Ni) were synthesized via a sol-gel synthesis route, and their crystal structures were refined using the Rietveld method from X-ray powder diffraction data. NaCoV 2 (PO 4 ) 3 was also characterized by TGA, cyclic voltammetry, and galvanostatic cycling. The three phases crystallize with the orthorhombic symmetry and the space group Imma . The structures are isotypic to the stuffed α-CrPO 4 -type structure and contain two vacant sites in which two sodium atoms can be intercalated. When NaCoV 2 (PO 4 ) 3 is cycled at a 1C rate in the voltage ranges of 0.1-3 and 0.7-3 V vs Na + /Na, it delivers specific capacities of 190 and 75 mA h/g, respectively, with an average operation potential of ∼1.4 V. This attests to the electrochemical activity of this compound and indicates that the α-CrPO 4 -type compounds could be suitable for hosting other guest ions., Competing Interests: The authors declare no competing financial interest.

Bartonellosis is one of the clinically underdiagnosed emerging bacterial diseases among domestic livestock, particularly in camels. Until now, the natural infection of camels with Bartonella species was not investigated in Tunisia. In the attempt of filling this gap in knowledge, a total of 412 dromedary camels (Camelus dromedarius) as well as 300 associated ticks (Hyalomma dromedarii (160; 53.4%), H. impeltatum (131; 43.6%) and H. excavatum (9; 3%) were screened for the presence of Bartonella spp. by PCR followed by a sequencing step through the amplification of the rpoB gene. Positive samples were then tested and further characterized by the combined use of the ftsZ and gltA genes. Fifteen camels (3.6%) were found to be positive to Bartonella spp. However, there was no evidence of Bartonella DNA in any of the analyzed ticks. Risk factors' analysis shows that camels derived from arid and semi-arid bioclimatic areas were more infected than those originated from desert area. Molecular characterization and phylogenetic analysis revealed the occurrence of novel B. henselae genotypes closely related to those isolated from humans, cats, and lions. By combining the characteristics of each single gene with those of concatenated sequences, we report here the first molecular detection of B. henselae in the dromedary camel suggesting a possible involvement of camelids as hosts or reservoirs in the transmission cycle of this emerging bacterium in arid and saharan areas., (Copyright © 2020 Elsevier B.V. Background: In order to better understand the deployment of the theory of mind (ToM) in Tunisian neurotypical children, we have developed a new tool of assessment of the ToM called the "Tunisian Social Situations Instrument" (TSSI). We opted for the creation of this test in view of the intercultural differences in the development of social skills. Our purpose was to validate this tool in general pediatric population., Methods: It was a cross-sectional evaluative study that aimed to validate the TSSI in the general pediatric population. We initially conducted a beta test and a pre-validation study before taking the initial version of the TSSI on 123 neurotypical children. Then, we followed the typical validation procedure: appearance validity, content validity, construct validity, and reliability study., Results: Regarding the validity of appearance, the TSSI was comprehensible and adapted to the Tunisian pediatric population. About content validity, the exploratory factor analysis extracted 6 factors that explain 69.3% of the total variance. These factors were respectively social clumsiness types 1 and 2, intention attribution, emotional ToM, epistemic ToM, and simple comprehension questions. The subdomains of social clumsiness (types 1 and 2) and emotional ToM had a Cronbach alpha higher than 0.8. This factor structure as well as the significant inter-correlation between subdomains and the global score were in favor of a good construct validity. The internal consistency study showed good reliability of the final version of the TSSI (alpha of Cronbach at 0,809). Excellent structural stability, high operating voltage, and high capacity have made Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 2 F 3 a promising cathode material for sodium-ion batteries. However, high-temperature battery performances and heat generation measurements have not been systematically reported yet. Carbon-coated Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 2 F 3 @MWCNT (multi-walled carbon nanotube) samples are fabricated by a hydrothermal-assisted sol-gel method and the electrochemical performances are evaluated at three different temperatures (25, 45, and 55 °C). The well-crystallized Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 2 F 3 @MWCNT samples exhibit good cycling stability at both low and high temperatures; they deliver an initial discharge capacity of 120-125 mAhg -1 at a 1 C rate with a retention of 53 % capacity after 1,400 cycles with 99 % columbic efficiency. The half-cell delivers a capacity of 100 mAhg -1 even at a high rate of 10 C at room temperature. Furthermore, the Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 2 F 3 @MWCNT samples show good long-term durability; the capacity loss is an average of 0.05 % per cycle at a 1 C rate at 55 °C. Furthermore, ionic diffusivity and charge transfer resistance are evaluated as functions of state of charge, and they explain the high electrochemical performance of the Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 2 F 3 @MWCNT samples. In-situ heat generation measurements reveal reversible results upon cycling owing to the high structural stability of the material. Rift Valley fever (RVF) is a mosquito-borne zoonosis that severely impacts livelihoods, national and international economies, and human health. Few studies have investigated the prevalence of this infection in Tunisian livestock. The present report aimed to update the epidemiological status and identify the risk factors associated with this RVF virus infection in the one-humped dromedary camel from arid areas. A total of 470 sera of apparently healthy camels (Camelus dromedarius) were collected from six governorates from southern and central Tunisia. Samples were tested by a competitive Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). An overall, 162 camels (34%, 95%CI: 0.1-0.4) were seropositive to RVF virus antigen. Logistic regression model revealed three potential risk factors associated with the infection. A meaningful high seropositivity was observed among aged camels (>10 years-old) (40%) (P=0.001; OR=3.367). Besides, camels raised in small flocks particularly intended for meat production showed a high level of seropositivity (37%) (P=0.013; OR=13.173). Animals having close contact with other ruminants showed high seroprevalence (37%) (P=0.022; OR=10.919). This report indicated that Tunisian one-humped dromedaries were exposed to this virus and may contribute to its dissemination among farmers and other livestock. HLA-G has been widely implicated in advanced cancers through different pathways of immunosuppression allowing tumor escape. Contrarily, HLA-E has a controversial role in the tumor escape from the immune system. IDO catabolic enzyme is known to be up-regulated in many tumors types allowing their immune escape. Based on these considerations, we investigated the expression of HLA-G, HLA-E and IDO molecules in endometrial cancer (EC) and their association with prognostic clinicopathologic parameters. Their expression were checked in tumoral and adjacent endometrial tissues. Both HLA-G and IDO immunostaining were significantly increased in EC tissues compared to normal residual endometrial glands (Mann Whitney U-test, p = 0.0001 and p = 0,020 respectively). However, HLA-E was highly expressed in tumoral tissues as well as in normal residual endometrial glands (respectively, 100% and 81.8%). Increased HLA-G expression levels were observed in high histological grade (grade 3), and in the non-endometrioid type 2 EC. Unexpectedly, patients with IDO Low expression had significantly impaired overall survival compared to patients with IDO High (log-rank p = 0.021). Conversely, HLA-E low expression was associated to an improved overall survival EC (log-rank p = 0.004). We report on the successful synthesis of diammonium magnesium dihydrogendiphosphate (V) dihydrate compound (NH 4 ) 2 Mg(H 2 P 2 O 7 ) 2 •2H 2 O using a wet chemical route. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and micro Raman spectroscopy are employed to characterize the compound. We demonstrate, using a multidisciplinary approach, that this compound is ideal for carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) capture in addition to other anthropogenic gasses. We show here -from both an experimental as well as from a density functional theory (DFT) calculations routes- the potential for adopting this compound into domestic air-conditioning units (ACUs). From these experiments, the resistance to bacterial growth is also investigated, which is critical for the adoption of this compound in ACUs. Our  compound exhibits a higher methane (CH 4 ) sorptivity as compared to CO 2 at 25 °C and 45 °C under pressures up to 50 bars. Furthermore, DFT electronic structure calculations are used to compute the main structural and electronic properties of the compound, taking into consideration the characteristics of the identified pores as a function of the progressive CO 2 vs. CH 4 loadings. Finally, the antibacterial assay reveals a strong antibacterial activity against the tested Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, with a large zone of inhibition against the tested E. Coli, S. Aureus and K. Pneumonia.

The title compounds were prepared via a wet chemistry route and their crystal structures were determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction data. Na 2 Mn(SO 4 ) 2 ·4H 2 O crystallizes with a monoclinic symmetry, space group P 2 1 / c , with a = 5.5415(2), b = 8.3447(3), c = 11.2281(3) Å, β = 100.172(1)°, V = 511.05(3) Å 3 and Z = 2. Na 2 Ni(SO 4 ) 2 ·10H 2 O also crystallizes with a monoclinic symmetry, space group P 2 1 / c , with a = 12.5050(8), b = 6.4812(4), c = 10.0210(6) Å, β = 106.138(2)°, V = 780.17(8) Å 3 and Z = 2. Na 2 Mn(SO 4 ) 2 ·4H 2 O is a new member of the blödite family of compounds, whereas Na 2 Ni(SO 4 ) 2 ·10H 2 O is isostructural with Na 2 Mg(SO 4 ) 2 ·10H 2 O. The structure of Na 2 Mn(SO 4 ) 2 ·4H 2 O is built up of [Mn(SO 4 ) 2 (H 2 O) 4 ] 2- building blocks connected through moderate O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds with the sodium atoms occupying the large tunnels along the a axis and the manganese atom lying on an inversion center, whereas the structure of Na 2 Ni(SO 4 ) 2 ·10H 2 O is built up of [Ni(H 2 O) 6 ] 2+ and [Na 2 (SO 4 ) 2 (H 2 O) 4 ] 2- layers. These layers which are parallel to the (100) plane are interconnected through moderate O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The thermal gravimetric- and the powder X-ray diffraction-analyzes showed that only the nickel phase was almost pure. At a temperature above 300 °C, all the water molecules evaporated and a structural phase transition from P 2 1 / c -Na 2 Ni(SO 4 ) 2 ·10H 2 O to C 2/ c -Na 2 Ni(SO 4 ) 2 was observed. C 2/ c -Na 2 Ni(SO 4 ) 2 is thermally more stable than Na 2 Fe(SO 4 ) 2 and therefore it would be suitable as the positive electrode for sodium ion batteries if a stable electrolyte at high voltage is developed., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest., (This journal is © The Royal Society of Chemistry.)

Rickettsia species are adapted to a wide range of specific animal hosts. Camels (Camelus dromedarius) have been identified as a carrier of various zoonotic pathogens and became a focus of growing public health interest. This study reported the occurrence of rickettsial infection in camels and infesting ticks from five Tunisian governorates. Based on ompB PCR, eight out of 293 camels (2.7%) were found to be infected with Rickettsia spp. Furthermore, 13 tick specimens of Hyalomma impeltatum (10.4%) and 9 of H. dromedarii (8.0%) harboured DNA of Rickettsia bacteria with an overall prevalence rate of 9.2% (22/237). Molecular prevalence of Rickettsia infection varied significantly according to tick infestation for camels and among tick genders. Five rickettsial species, showing a potential public health interest, were revealed by sequencing. Based on ompB partial sequences, five species were identified corresponding to R. aeschlimannii, R. monacensis, R. helvetica and R. massiliae in camels and to R. africae, R. aeschlimannii, R. monacensis and R. helvetica in ticks. Based on ompA typing, three species were revealed corresponding to R. africae and R. monacensis in camels and to R. africae, R. aeschlimannii and R. monacensis in ticks. This is the first report consolidating the hypothesis that camels may serve as potential hosts for Rickettsia spp. and Hyalomma spp. ticks as possible vectors in arid and Saharan areas of Tunisia. To date, no information is available regarding the infection of camels (Camelus dromedarius) by Anaplasma ovis in North African region. Several animal species can be infected by A. ovis which further complicates its natural infection cycle. In this paper, we investigated the occurrence and the genetic diversity of A. ovis in camels and ticks collected from them in Tunisia and the risk factor analysis. Camel blood samples (n = 412) and tick (n = 300) samples, identified as Hyalomma dromedarii (n = 149, 49.6%), H. impeltatum (n = 142, 47.3%) and H. excavatum (n = 9, 3%), were analyzed by conventional PCR followed by the sequencing of msp4 and groEL genes. A. ovis DNA was identified in five camels (1.2%), but not in infesting ticks (0%). The microscopic examination revealed the specific infection of camel erythrocytes by Anaplasma inclusions. The msp4 and groEL typing confirmed the natural infection of camels by A. ovis and revealed two different msp4 genotypes earlier detected in Tunisian small ruminants and their infested ticks, and five different and novel groEL genetic variants forming a separately sub-cluster within A. ovis cluster. The occurrence of different A. ovis strains specific to camels associated with a low prevalence of this Anaplasma species in camels may enrich knowledge regarding the distribution and the transmission cycle of this bacterium in arid and Saharan areas of Tunisia., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier B.V.
