Abstract

The paper presents the results of molecular dynamics study of the viscosity of nickel-containing binary metal melts for a wide range of temperatures, including the region of the equilibrium liquid phase and supercooled melt. It is shown that the temperature dependencies of the viscosity of binary metal melts are described by the Kelton's quasi-universal model. Based on the analysis of the viscosity coefficient of the binary melt composition within the framework of the Rosenfeld's scale transfor\-mations, it has been established that to correctly describe the viscosity of binary/multi\-component metal melts within the framework of entropy models, it is necessary to use a more complex representation of the excess entropy $S_{ex}$ than in the approximation of pair correlation entropy $S_2$., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

The shear viscosity of liquid cobalt at the pressure $p=1.5$~bar and at the temperatures corresponding to equilibrium liquid and supercooled liquid states is measured experimentally and evaluated by means of molecular dynamics simulations. Further, the shear viscosity is also calculated within the microscopic theoretical model. Comparison of our experimental, simulation and theoretical results with other available data allows one to examine the issue about the correct temperature dependence of the shear viscosity of liquid cobalt. It is found a strong correlation between the viscosity and the configuration entropy of liquid cobalt over the considered temperature range, which can be taken into account by the Rosenfeld's model., Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

The temperature dependences of the kinematic viscosity of Co81BxSi19–x melts (x = 0, 3, 7, 10, 13, 17, 19 at %) in the heating and subsequent cooling modes are studied. The temperature dependences of viscosity are monotonic and are accurately described by the exponential Arrhenius equation. The concentration dependences of the viscosity and activation energy of viscous flow are constructed for the quasi-binary Co81B19–Co81Si19 system. In this system, when silicon atoms are replaced by boron atoms, the melt viscosity changes slightly. The activation energy isotherm of the viscous flow is close to a linear function. Abstract

Abstract: The temperature dependences of the kinematic viscosity of ternary Co81(B,Si)19and Co75(B,Si)25melts are studied. The polytherms of the liquid alloys measured on heating and on cooling coincide and are well described by the exponential Arrhenius equation. These polytherms are used to construct concentration dependences of the ternary alloy viscosity for quasi-binary Сo81B19–Co81Si19and Сo75B25–Co75Si25sections at fixed temperatures. The viscosity isotherms of the quasi-binary sections are close to the additive sum of the viscosities of the binary alloys with insignificant positive deviation. The concentration dependences of the dynamic viscosity of the Сo81B19–Co81Si19and Сo75B25–Co75Si25melts are calculated by seven equations based on the data on the thermodynamic properties of a melt and/or the physical properties of its components. The Kozlov–Romanov–Petrov equation ensures the best coincidence with the experimental data for both the systems.

21. Viscosity of Al-Ni-Co-Nd(Sm) glass-forming melts at high temperatures.

Abstract

Obtaining amorphous alloys with good mechanical and anticorrosion properties is an important problem of modern condensed matter physics. Since the preparation of amorphous alloys involves casting them from liquid state, information on the properties of the melts is needed. Viscosity is one of the most informative structure-sensitive property of melts. In this paper viscosity of some glass-forming Al-Ni-Co-Nd(Sm) melts with different ratio of transition metals was studied using damped oscillation method in a wide temperature range up to 1550 K. Activation energies of the viscous flow were calculated from the experimental data. The hysteresis of viscosity temperature dependences during heating and subsequent cooling was found. It can be associated with a melt transition to a more homogeneous state. The repeated heating and cooling of the melts without crystallization lead to Arrhenius type of viscosity temperature dependences., (© 2024 IOP Publishing Ltd.)
