Abstract

El escape room es una actividad lúdica que puede ser aprovechada como recurso docente. Por sus características, esta actividad permite enganchar al alumnado en la resolución de retos que tengan como finalidad la mejora de su aprendizaje y algunas competencias transversales específicas. Este trabajo muestra la experiencia de diseñar y aplicar un escape room virtual en el ámbito universitario. El análisis de la percepción del estudiantado tras la experiencia, muestra satisfacción con la misma, la cual es percibida como una experiencia de juego divertida, absorbente, activa y que fomenta el pensamiento crítico. Además, de forma cualitativa, nuestros resultados sugieren que a través del escape room virtual se fomenta el aprendizaje, especialmente la retención de contenidos.

Abstract

The role of human resource flexibility in the relationship between organizational performance and high performance work systems is studied. Findings revealed that HPWS affects performance through its influence on human resource flexibility. The potential of measure of employee adaptability in explaining the significance of HPWS to organizational competitiveness is discussed.

An analysis of the data from a sample of 1,403 Spanish industrial firms reveals the existence of a substitute effect between external and internal labor flexibility. Greater benefits for the firms do not attained in using both simultaneously.

13. Passive smoking as a risk factor of anemia in young children aged 0–35 months in Jordan

Abstract

Abstract Background Passive smoking unfavorably affects pregnancy, child birth and child health. Passive smoking associates with still-birth, premature birth as well as acute respiratory infection, asthma, disorder in red blood cell metabolism in children. This study examined the effects of passive smoking on anemia in young children in Jordan. Methods The analysis based on the information from 740 children aged 0–35 months that were tested for hemoglobin levels included in the 2002 Jordan Population and Family Health Survey. This study used multivariate logistic regression method to analyze the effect of passive smoking on anemia in young children in Jordan, controlling for a number of risk factors and confounding factors for anemia. Results Results indicated that independent of other risk factors and confounding factors, anemia in young children was strongly positively associated with exposure to passive smoking from both parents (OR= 2.99, p < 0.01). Severely undernourished children were at higher risk of anemia independent of passive smoking and other risk factors (OR= 5.29, p < 0.05). Children age 24–35 months, children born to mothers age 35–49, and children lived in households with a hygienic toilet facility were less likely to suffer from anemia. Conclusion Passive smoking from both parents was strongly positively associated with anemia in young children in Jordan independent of other risk factors and confounding factors. The results support the importance of smoking prevention during and after pregnancy that prevent childhood anemia and others morbidities in young children.

A study was conducted to investigate the effect of organizational commitment to employees (OCE) on organizational performance. A configurative approach and a universalistic approach were used in the study. Findings indicate that OCE by itself does not affect organizational performance and it is important to consider the context in which OCE is applied.

Abstract

La generalización en España de la contratación temporal como práctica de flexibilidad laboral ha suscitado un intenso debate acerca de si ésta ejerce un efecto positivo o negativo sobre la productividad laboral; existen argumentos teóricos y estudios empíricos que defienden ambos efectos. En este trabajo conciliamos estas dos posturas aparentemente contrapuestas proponiendo la existencia de una relación curvilínea en forma de U invertida entre temporalidad contractual y productividad laboral. Observamos como el uso de contratos temporales produce un efecto positivo sobre la productividad laboral, pero un abuso lo transforma en negativo. Los profesionales de recursos humanos deberían advertir que cuanto mayor es la utilización menor es la utilidad de la contratación temporal The generalisation of temporary contracts in Spain as a practice designed to bring about labour flexibility has generated lively debate over whether they have positive or negative effects on labour productivity. According to some theoretical arguments and empirical studies, these contracts have both positive and negative effects. In this study we reconcile these two apparently opposing points of view by suggesting that there is an inverted U-shaped curve between temporary contracts and labour productivity. We find that the use of temporary contracts has a positive effect on labour productivity, but their overuse is negative. Human resources professionals should note that the higher is the use; the lower is the usefulness of temporary contracts

Limited research has been conducted on how nurses define or perceive "quality nursing care." We conducted focus groups to identify nurses' perceptions of quality care at a Midwestern academic medical center. Transcripts of the focus group sessions were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques, and 11 themes emerged: Leadership, Staffing, Resources, Timeliness, Effective Communication/Collaboration, Professionalism, Relationship-Based Care, Environment/Culture, Simplicity, Outcomes, and Patient Experience.
