Abstract

Method of magnetron sputtering of mosaic targets has been used to prepare thin films of Fe 2NbSn and Co 2Cr 0.6Fe 0.4Al Heusler alloys. In these alloys, the band calculations predict the existence of a high degree of polarization of charge carriers. The chemical composition and the magnetic and structural characteristics of the films of both compounds have been studied. In the films of the Fe 2NbSn alloy, which never has been investigated previously, we also studied optical and electrical properties. Based on the data obtained, we concluded that we obtained films with a composition close to stoichiometric. The annealing of the films leads to the appearance of a crystal structure and magnetic properties that correspond to the theoretical calculations. In the case of the Co 2Cr 0.6Fe 0.4Al alloys, the structural and magnetic characteristics are identical to the literature data for the films obtained using continuous targets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

17. Optical properties of heusler alloys Co2FeSi, Co2FeAl, Co2CrAl, and Co2CrGa.

Abstract

The results of an investigation of optical properties and the calculations of the electronic structure of Co 2FeSi, Co 2FeAl, Co 2CrAl, and Co 2CrGa Heusler alloys are presented. The main focus of our attention is the study of the spectral dependence of the real part (ɛ 1) and imaginary part (ɛ 2) of the dielectric constant in the range of wavelengths λ = 0.3–13 μm using the ellipsometric method. An anomalous behavior of the optical conductivity σ(ω) has been found in the infrared range in the Co 2CrAl and Co 2CrGa alloys, which differs substantially from that in the Co 2FeSi and Co 2FeAl alloys. Abstract

The magnetization curves of ferromagnetic Heusler alloys Fe2XY(where X= Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni are transition 3delements and Y= Al, Si are the sand pelements of the third period of the Periodic Table) have been measured at T= 4.2 K in the field range H≤ 70 kOe. It has been shown that the high-field (H≥ 20 kOe) magnetization is described within the Stoner model.
