Este trabajo analiza la relación entre el desarrollo económico y la evolución demográfica, utilizando datos de 35 países de América Latina y el Caribe para siete periodos de tiempo entre 1960 y 2019. Iniciamos nuestro trabajo describiendo las variables de estudio y su evolución, para posteriormente realizar el análisis econométrico. Los resultados de nuestros análisis muestran que el PIB per cápita en dólares constantes de 2010, utilizada como variable para medir el desarrollo económico, afecta de forma positiva y significativa a la tasa de fecundidad, variable utilizada para medir la evolución demográfica. Mediante la utilización de diferentes análisis econométricos agrupando los países y el tiempo, encontramos en la mayoría de periodos una relación positiva entre el PIB per cápita y la tasa de fecundidad. Solo en el año 1970 y la crisis de 1980, existe una relación negativa entre ambas variables, indicando que la incertidumbre económica desalienta las decisiones de las familias para tener hijos, al igual que las perspectivas de desarrollo económico en el resto de años las animan a tener un mayor número de hijos. Concluimos el trabajo explicando algunas medidas económicas que pueden llevar a cabo los gobiernos para revertir la constante caída de la tasa de fecundidad.

El principal propósito del presente trabajo se centra en analizar la relación existente entre el crecimiento económico y la desigualdad. Ver si realmente en una economía donde existe un mayor Índice de Gini, supone un freno o, por el contrario, un avance en el desarrollo económico. Para ello, realizaremos un análisis teórico del crecimiento de los principales indicadores tanto económicos (PIBpc y tasa de paro) como sociodemográficos (Índice de Gini) conociendo en que consisten, su evolución a lo largo de un horizonte temporal concreto, así como sus causas y consecuencias. Este análisis será llevado a cabo para el territorio nacional, entrando a conocer como afectó la gran recesión de 2008 a cada uno de estos indicadores. Además, haremos una comparativa con las economías próximas, utilizando la media europea para ello.Finalmente, para concluir con el estudio se realizará un análisis empírico a través de un programa informático donde, a partir de 379 observaciones obtendremos resultados reales que nos darán indicaciones sobre la existencia o no de esa posible relación entre desigualdad y desarrollo económico.

En este trabajo analizaré la historia de una importante empresa aragonesa en sus inicios y del municipio turolense del medio rural, y sus alrededores, donde desarrolló su actividad. La empresa se llamaba Minas y ferrocarril de Utrillas (MFU) y el pueblo, como indica la nominación de la empresa, Utrillas. A lo largo de los apartados, el lector del TFM descubrirá que esta historia está marcada por un mineral; el carbón, que se traducía en la fuente de ingresos de la empresa y el pueblo.El principio del trabajo está dedicado a presentar los distintos tipos de carbón que la población utrillense, como medio de vida, extrajo por toneladas. El trabajo continúa con la propia historia de las minas y el ferrocarril. A través de estos primeros puntos, analizaré las particularidades de la sociedad utrillense en diferentes épocas muy importantes para ellos como puede ser la Guerra Civil o los años posteriores al cierre de la empresa. Por último, tenemos un apartado dedicado al estudio de género en Utrillas durante el siglo XX y principios del XXI que cierra el TFM.

This paper studies the effect of the business cycle on the marriage rate, using a panel data of 30 European countries covering 1991 to 2013. We find a negative effect of the business cycle on the marriage rate, pointing to the pro-cyclical behaviour of marriage decisions, which holds after controlling for country-level specific characteristics and family law, and after taking possible endogeneity problems into account. We also analyse this issue considering a wide range of country-level regulations affecting couples (taxation, property division, and reproduction, among others). Supplemental analysis reveals gender differences in the impact of the business cycle on the marital decision, depending on the previous legal marital status of the individuals.

En el presente debate, el profesor Héctor Bellido sostiene los beneficios que puede traer consigo la privatización de los centros penitenciarios, desde un enfoque sociológico y económico, mientras que elprofesor español Jacobo Dópico, sobre la base de una posición totalmente contrapuesta, sostiene que esa opción no es la más adecuada, siguiendo un lineamiento jurídico que puede ser aplicado a la realidad latinoamericana.

This paper examines the relationship between the education level of Spanish emigrants and their country of destination. Since Spanish emigrants were born under the same laws, economic conditions, and institutions, the differences in their destination countries can be due to dissimilarities in their level of education. To explore this, we use census microdata covering the period from 2000 to 2007, of 21 countries that receive Spanish emigrants. Results suggest that more educated Spanish emigrants are more likely to live in more remote countries, with lower unemployment rates, and where the official language is English.

Children can be considered as a marriage-specific investment that increases the value of the marriage, making a divorce more costly. We exploit the richness of pre- and post-marital information from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 79, for the United States, to investigate the relation between fertility and marriage instability. In our model of marriage breakdown, we use the number of siblings of the respondent and, alternatively, multiple births, to instrument the number of children conceived during first marriage. Our results indicate that the presence of children significantly reduces the probability of marital disruption. In addition, the younger the children, the greater the deterrent effect. In contrast, we conclude that children conceived before first marriage increase the risk of marital disruption. Finally, the higher the parents' level of education, the larger the positive effect of fertility on marital stability.

This paper studies the impact of culture on the fertility decisions of adolescent women. To identify this effect, we use the epidemiological approach, exploiting the variations in fertility rates of teen women by ancestor’s home country. All women considered in our analysis were born in the US, and all have lived under US institutional and legal conditions. Then, differences in fertility rates of adolescent women by national origin can be considered as supporting evidence of the impact of culture. Our results show that culture has quantitatively significant impacts on the fertility decisions of adolescent women. This finding is robust to alternative specifications and to the introduction of several home country variables and individual characteristics measured when young women take the decision to have a child.

This paper explores the effect of divorce law reform on fertility. By modifying the value of marriage, the adoption of no-fault and unilateral divorce may impact fertility decisions. To identify the effects of those reforms on fertility, we use a quasi experiment exploiting the legislative history of divorce liberalization across Europe. Results suggest that divorce law reforms have a negative and permanent effect on fertility. These findings are robust to alternative specifications and controls for unobserved country-specific factors, time-varying factors at the country level, the liberalization of abortion, and the availability of the birth-control pill. Supplemental analysis, developed to understand the mechanisms through which divorce law reforms affect fertility, shows that both marital and out-of-wedlock fertility declines, but that the impact on marital fertility varies depending on whether couples are married prior to or after divorce law reform.
