We construct $(2,3)$-generators for the finite $8$-dimensional orthogonal groups, proving the following results: the groups $\Omega_8^+(q)$ and $P\Omega_8^+(q)$ are $(2,3)$-generated if and only if $q\geq 4$; the groups $\Omega_8^-(q)$ and $P\Omega_8^-(q)$ are $(2,3)$-generated for all $q\geq 2$.

This paper is a new important step towards the complete classification of the finite simple groups which are $(2, 3)$-generated. In fact, we prove that the symplectic groups $Sp_{2n}(q)$ are $(2,3)$-generated for all $n\geq 4$. Because of the existing literature, this result implies that the groups $PSp_{2n}(q)$ are $(2,3)$-generated for all $n\geq 2$, with the exception of $PSp_4(2^f)$ and $PSp_4(3^f)$.

In this paper we prove that the unitary groups $SU_n(q^2)$ are $(2,3)$-generated for any prime power $q$ and any integer $n\geq 8$. By previous results this implies that, if $n\geq 3$, the groups $SU_n(q^2)$ and $PSU_n(q^2)$ are $(2,3)$-generated, except when $(n,q)\in\{(3,2),(3,3),(3,5),(4,2), (4,3),(5,2)\}$., Comment: In this version, we obtained a complete classification of the finite simple unitary groups which are (2,3)-generated; some proofs have been semplified

Mathematics - Group Theory ,20B35, 15A63, 15A21 - Abstract
Given a regular subgroup R of AGL_n(F), one can ask if R contains nontrivial translations. A negative answer to this question was given by Liebeck, Praeger and Saxl for AGL_2(p) (p a prime), AGL_3(p) (p odd) and for AGL_4(2). A positive answer was given by Hegedus for AGL_n(p) when n >= 4 if p is odd and for n=3 or n >= 5 if p=2. A first generalization to finite fields of Hegedus' construction was recently obtained by Catino, Colazzo and Stefanelli. In this paper we give examples of such subgroups in AGL_n(F) for any n >= 5 and any field F. For n < 5 we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for their existence, assuming R to be unipotent if char F=0., Comment: With respect to the previous version, some results about characteristic 2 were extended from finite fields to any fields

This paper is a new contribution to the study of regular subgroups of the affine group $AGL_n(F)$, for any field $F$. In particular we associate to any partition $\lambda\neq (1^{n+1})$ of $n+1$ abelian regular subgroups in such a way that different partitions define non-conjugate subgroups. Moreover, we classify the regular subgroups of certain natural types for $n\leq 4$. Our classification is equivalent to the classification of split local algebras of dimension $n+1$ over $F$. Our methods, based on classical results of linear algebra, are computer free.

- Abstract
The complete classification of the finite simple groups that are (2, 3)-generated is a problem which is still open only for orthogonal groups. Here, we construct (2, 3)-generators for the finite odd-dimensional orthogonal groups O2k+1(q), k = 4. As a byproduct, we also obtain (2, 3)-generators for O+ 4k(q) with k = 3 and q odd, and for O± 4k+2(q) with k = 4 and q = ±1 (mod 4).

Mathematics - Group Theory ,20G40, 20F05 - Abstract
This paper continues previous work, based on systematic use of a formula of L. Scott, to detect Hurwitz groups. It closes the problem of determining the finite simple groups contained in $PGL_n(F)$ for $n\leq 7$ which are Hurwitz, where $F$ is an algebraically closed field. For the groups $G_2(q)$, $q\geq 5$, and the Janko groups $J_1$ and $J_2$ it provides explicit $(2,3,7)$-generators.

In this paper we determine the classical simple groups of dimension r=3,5 which are (2,3)-generated (the cases r = 2, 4 are known). If r = 3, they are PSL_3(q), q <> 4, and PSU_3(q^2), q^2 <> 9, 25. If r = 5 they are PSL_5(q), for all q, and PSU_5(q^2), q^2 >= 9. Also, the soluble group PSU_3(4) is not (2,3)-generated. We give explicit (2,3)-generators of the linear preimages, in the special linear groups, of the (2,3)-generated simple groups., Comment: 12 pages

- Abstract
Background: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic compromised the mental health of COVID-19 patients and their family members. Due to social distancing and lockdown measures, a remote, tele-psychotherapy program for former or current COVID-19 patients and their relatives was implemented. Objective: The primary goal of this project was to evaluate intervention feasibility. The secondary aim was to assess the impact of the intervention by means of pre-post psychological changes. Methods: After a phone-based eligibility screening and remote neuropsychological testing, participants completed online self-reports assessing baseline COVID-related psychopathology. Next, participants attended eight tele-psychotherapy sessions. After treatment, the online self-reports were completed again. Results: Of 104 enrolled participants, 88 completed the intervention (84.6 % completion rate). Significant pre-post improvements were observed for generalized anxiety (d = 0.38), depression (d = 0.37), insomnia (d = 0.43), post-traumatic psychopathology (d = 0.54), and general malaise (d = 0.31). Baseline cluster analysis revealed a subgroup of 41 subjects (47.6 %) with no psychopathology, and a second subgroup of 45 subject (52.3 %) with moderate severity. Thirty-three percent of the second group reached full symptom remission, while 66 % remained symptomatic after treatment. Conclusions: Remote brief tele-psychotherapy for COVID-19 patients and their first-degree relatives is feasible and preliminary efficacious at reducing COVID-related psychopathology in a subgroup of patients. Further research is needed to investigate distinct profiles of treatment response.

In this paper we study the (2,k)-generation of the finite classical groups SL(4,q), Sp(4,q), SU(4,q^2) and their projective images. Here k is the order of an arbitrary element of SL(2,q), subject to the necessary condition k>= 3. When q is even we allow also k=4., Comment: 29 pages

- Abstract
Language production has often been described as impaired in psychiatric diseases such as in psychosis. Nevertheless, little is known about the characteristics of linguistic difficulties and their relation with other cognitive domains in patients with a first episode of psychosis (FEP), either affective or non-affective. To deepen our comprehension of linguistic profile in FEP, 133 patients with FEP (95 non-affective, FEP-NA; 38 affective, FEP-A) and 133 healthy controls (HC) were assessed with a narrative discourse task. Speech samples were systematically analyzed with a well-established multilevel procedure investigating both micro- (lexicon, morphology, syntax) and macro-linguistic (discourse coherence, pragmatics) levels of linguistic processing. Executive functioning and IQ were also evaluated. Both linguistic and neuropsychological measures were secondarily implemented with a machine learning approach in order to explore their predictive accuracy in classifying participants as FEP or HC. Compared to HC, FEP patients showed language production difficulty at both micro- and macro-linguistic levels. As for the former, FEP produced shorter and simpler sentences and fewer words per minute, along with a reduced number of lexical fillers, compared to HC. At the macro-linguistic level, FEP performance was impaired in local coherence, which was paired with a higher percentage of utterances with semantic errors. Linguistic measures were not correlated with any neuropsychological variables. No significant differences emerged between FEP-NA and FEP-A (p≥0.02, after Bonferroni correction). Machine learning analysis showed an accuracy of group prediction of 76.36% using language features only, with semantic variables being the most impactful. Such a percentage was enhanced when paired with clinical and neuropsychological variables. Results confirm the presence of language production deficits already at the first episode of the illness, being such impairment not related to ot

Results confirm the presence of language production deficits already at the first episode of the illness, being such impairment not related to other cognitive domains. The high accuracy obtained by the linguistic set of features in classifying groups support the use of machine learning methods in neuroscience investigations.

- Abstract
Although there has been an increment in neuroimaging research in somatoform disorders (SD), to date little is known about the neural correlates of these diseases. Therefore, in this systematic, review we aimed at summarizing the existing evidence of structural brain alterations in SD as per DSM-IV and DSM-5 criteria. Three electronic databases (Scopus, PubMed and Web of Science) were searched. Only case-control studies using structural neuroimaging were included. Forty-five out of 369 articles fulfilled inclusion criteria and were reviewed. Compared to controls, subjects with SD showed morphological alterations encompassing motor, limbic and somatosensory circuits. Although far from being conclusive, the results suggested that SD are characterized by selective alterations of large-scale brain networks implicated in cognitive control, emotion regulation and processing, stress and somatic-visceral perception. This review highlights the need for further multimodal neuroimaging studies with longitudinal designs, in larger and better-characterized samples, to elucidate the temporal and causal relationship between neuroanatomical changes and SD, which is paramount for informing tailored treatments.

- Abstract
Recent advances in digital technology and mobile platforms have widely shown the potential to enrich evidence-based psychological treatments by supporting the remote delivery of therapeutic tools to individuals with mental illness. Compared to in-person approaches, mobile apps offer several benefits that are particularly attractive to youths struggling with mental illness. First, mental health apps enable scheduling flexibility and decrease scheduling burden, thus facilitating accessibility and compliance with intervention requirements and ultimately increasing cost-effectiveness. Second, mental health apps can enhance the quality of treatment by incorporating computerized treatments and innovative methods of communication, and by making treatment adaptive and responsive to dynamic, ecologically valid data. Third, mental health apps can be accessed with greater frequency than in-person treatment approaches for brief therapeutic interactions that help consolidate support and maintain inter-session continuity. Fourth, delivering treatment in real-world settings may support the retention, reinforcement and successful generalization of cognitive and behavioral skills. Finally, mental health apps can include opportunities for remote social engagement, like social networking or direct peer-to-peer messaging. The successful development of a mobile intervention for youth experiencing mental illness requires the coordinated activity of clinical researchers with patients, clinicians and the technology sector. The intervention should emerge in response to a symptom dimension or unmet clinical need, which resonates with the patient group it is intended to serve. Finally, building strategic and appropriately formalized academic-industry partnerships can result in long-lasting digital tools that are more easily adopted and disseminated.

- Abstract
MRI-derived brain measures offer a link between genes, the environment and behavior and have been widely studied in bipolar disorder (BD). However, many neuroimaging studies of BD have been underpowered, leading to varied results and uncertainty regarding effects. The Enhancing Neuro Imaging Genetics through Meta-Analysis (ENIGMA) Bipolar Disorder Working Group was formed in 2012 to empower discoveries, generate consensus findings and inform future hypothesis-driven studies of BD. Through this effort, over 150 researchers from 20 countries and 55 institutions pool data and resources to produce the largest neuroimaging studies of BD ever conducted. The ENIGMA Bipolar Disorder Working Group applies standardized processing and analysis techniques to empower large-scale meta- and mega-analyses of multimodal brain MRI and improve the replicability of studies relating brain variation to clinical and genetic data. Initial BD Working Group studies reveal widespread patterns of lower cortical thickness, subcortical volume and disrupted white matter integrity associated with BD. Findings also include mapping brain alterations of common medications like lithium, symptom patterns and clinical risk profiles and have provided further insights into the pathophysiological mechanisms of BD. Here we discuss key findings from the BD working group, its ongoing projects and future directions for large-scale, collaborative studies of mental illness.

- Abstract
This paper is a new important step towards the complete classification of the finite simple groups which are (2,3)-generated. In fact, we prove that the symplectic groups Sp_2n(q) are (2,3)-generated for all n≥4. Because of the existing literature, this result implies that the groups PSp_2n(q) are (2,3)-generated for all n≥2, with the exception of PSp_4(2^f) and PSp_4(3^f).

Background Among Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) manifestations, Olfactory (OD) and Gustatory (GD) Dysfunctions (OGD) have drawn considerable attention, becoming a sort of hallmark of the disease. Many have speculated on the pathogenesis and clinical characteristics of these disturbances; however, no definite answers have been produced on the topic. With this systematic review, we aimed to collect all the available evidence regarding the prevalence of OGD, the timing of their onset and their resolution, their rate of recovery and their role as diagnostic and prognostic tools for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Methods A systematic review comprising all the observational studies that reported the prevalence and/or the longitudinal trajectories of OGD in COVID-19 patients, as self-reported by patients or measured through objective psychophysical tests. Results After the selection process, 155 studies were included, with a total of 70920 patients and 105291 not-infected individuals. Prevalence reports were extremely variable across studies, with wide ranges for OD (0% - 98%) and GD (0-89%) prevalence. OGD occurred early during the disease course and only rarely preceded other symptoms; out of 30 studies with a follow-up time of at least 20 days, only in 5 studies OGD fully resolved in more than 90% of patients. OGD had low sensitivity and high specificity for SARS-CoV-2 infection; accuracy of OD and GD for infection identification was higher than 80% in 10 out of 33 studies and in 8 out of 22 studies considered, respectively. 28 out of 30 studies that studied the association between OGD and disease severity found how OGD were associated with lower rates of severe pneumonia, hospitalization and mortality. Conclusions OGD seem to be highly prevalent in SARS-CoV-2 infection. They occur early, concomitantly with other symptoms and often persist after recovery, in some cases for months; whether a full recovery eventually occurs in all cases is not clear yet. OGD are good predictors of SARS-CoV-2 infection and are associated with a milder disease course.

- Abstract
Gender-related differences in the susceptibility, progression and clinical outcomes of alcohol dependence are well-known. However, the neurobiological substrates underlying such differences remain unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate gender differences in the neuroanatomy (i.e. regional brain volumes) of alcohol dependence. We examined the volume of a priori regions of interest (i.e., orbitofrontal cortex, hippocampus, amygdala, nucleus accumbens, caudate, putamen, pallidum, thalamus, corpus callosum, cerebellum) and global brain measures (i.e., total grey matter (GM), total white matter (WM) and cerebrospinal fluid). Volumes were compared between 660 people with alcohol dependence (228 women) and 326 controls (99 women) recruited from the ENIGMA Addiction Working Group, accounting for intracranial volume, age and education years. Compared to controls, individuals with alcohol dependence on average had (3-9%) smaller volumes of the hippocampus (bilateral), putamen (left), pallidum (left), thalamus (right), corpus callosum, total GM and WM, and cerebellar GM (bilateral), the latter more prominently in women (right). Alcohol-dependent men showed smaller amygdala volume than control men, but this effect was unclear among women. In people with alcohol dependence, more monthly standard drinks predicted smaller amygdala and larger cerebellum GM volumes. The neuroanatomical differences associated with alcohol dependence emerged as gross and widespread, while those associated with a specific gender may be confined to selected brain regions. These findings warrant future neuroscience research to account for gender differences in alcohol dependence to further understand the neurobiological effects of alcohol dependence.

- Abstract
Males and females show different patterns of cannabis use and related psychosocial outcomes. However, the neuroanatomical substrates underlying such differences are poorly understood. The aim of this study was to map sex differences in the neurobiology (as indexed by brain volumes) of dependent and recreational cannabis use. We compared the volume of a priori regions of interest (i.e., amygdala, hippocampus, nucleus accumbens, insula, orbitofrontal cortex (OFC), anterior cingulate cortex and cerebellum) between 129 regular cannabis users (of whom 70 were recreational users and 59 cannabis dependent) and 114 controls recruited from the ENIGMA Addiction Working Group, accounting for intracranial volume, age, IQ, and alcohol and tobacco use. Dependent cannabis users, particularly females, had (marginally significant) smaller volumes of the lateral OFC and cerebellar white matter than recreational users and controls. In dependent (but not recreational) cannabis users, there was a significant association between female sex and smaller volumes of the cerebellar white matter and OFC. Volume of the OFC was also predicted by monthly standard drinks. No significant effects emerged the other brain regions of interest. Our findings warrant future multimodal studies that examine if sex and cannabis dependence are specific key drivers of neurobiological alterations in cannabis users. This, in turn, could help to identify neural pathways specifically involved in vulnerable cannabis users (e.g., females with cannabis dependence) and inform individually tailored neurobiological targets for treatment.

- Abstract
Males and females with alcohol dependence have distinct mental health and cognitive problems. Animal models of addiction postulate that the underlying neurobiological mechanisms are partially distinct, but there is little evidence of sex differences in humans with alcohol dependence as most neuroimaging studies have been conducted in males. We examined hippocampal and amygdala subregions in a large sample of 966 people from the ENIGMA Addiction Working Group. This comprised 643 people with alcohol dependence (225 females), and a comparison group of 323 people without alcohol dependence (98 females). Males with alcohol dependence had smaller volumes of the total amygdala and its basolateral nucleus than male controls, that exacerbated with alcohol dose. Alcohol dependence was also associated with smaller volumes of the hippocampus and its CA1 and subiculum subfield volumes in both males and females. In summary, hippocampal and amygdalar subregions may be sensitive to both shared and distinct mechanisms in alcohol-dependent males and females.

- Abstract
Objective: The COVID-19 pandemic is negatively impacting the mental health of COVID-19 patients and family members. Given the restrictions limiting in person contact to reduce the spread of the virus, a digital approach is needed to tackle the psychological aftermath of the pandemic. We present the development of a brief remote psychotherapy program for COVID-19 patients and/or their relatives. Methods: We first reviewed the literature on psychotherapeutic interventions for COVID-19 related symptoms. Based on this evidence, we leveraged ongoing clinical experiences with COVID-19 survivors and family members to design an intervention model that could be disseminated and integrated into the workflow of the mental health system. Results: This 8-session model –inspired by constructivist and hermeneutic-phenomenological therapies– serves COVID-19 patients during hospitalization, remission and recovery. This model can also be delivered to people dealing with the COVID-19 hospitalization/discharge of a family member, or the loss of a family member due to COVID-19. Conclusion: We described a remote psychotherapeutic approach to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic psychological aftermath. To date, the approach seems feasible and highly customizable to patients’ needs. Studies are underway to test its preliminary efficacy. Once proven efficacious, this treatment model could provide a blueprint for future tele-psychology wide-scale interventions.

- Abstract
In this paper we prove that the unitary groups SUn(q2) are (2,3)-generated for any prime power q and any integer n≥8. By previous results this implies that, if n≥3, the groups SUn(q2) and PSUn(q2) are (2,3)-generated, except when (n,q)∈(3,2),(3,3),(3,5),(4,2),(4,3),(5,2).
