Based on the first order shear deformation plate theory (FSDT) in the present studie, static and dynamic behavior of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite sandwich plates has been analysed. Two types of sandwich plates, namely, the sandwich with face sheet reinforced and homogeneous core and the sandwich with homogeneous face sheet and reinforced core are considered. The face sheet or core plates are reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes with two types of distributions of uniaxially aligned reinforcement material which uniformly (UD-CNT) and functionally graded (FG-CNT). The analytical equations are derived and the exact solutions for bending and vibration analyses of such type’s plates are obtained. The mathematical models provided and the present solutions are numerically validated by comparison with some available results in the literature. Influence of Various parameters of reinforced sandwich plates such as aspect ratios, volume fraction, types of reinforcement and plate thickness on the bending and vibration analyses of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite sandwich plates are studied and discussed. The findings suggest that the (FG-CNT) face sheet reinforced sandwich plate has a high resistance against deflections compared to other types of reinforcement. It is also revealed that the reduction in the dimensionless natural frequency is most pronounced in core reinforced sandwich plate.

Dans cet article, une analyse des contraintes d’interface est présentée pour une poutre en béton simplement supportée collé extérieurement par une plaque en matériau à gradient de propriétés. Cette nouvelle solution est destinée à être appliquée à des poutres en tous types de matériaux collés avec une plaque mince, tandis que toutes les solutions existantes ont été développées en mettant l'accent sur le renforcement des poutres en béton armé, ce qui a permis l'omission de certains termes. Il est montré que les contraintes normales et de cisaillement à l'interface sont influencées par les paramètres de matériau de renforcement et de la géométrie de la poutre. Cet article examine les problèmes des plaques à gradient fonctionnel en flexion cylindrique dans le quel les propriétés des matériaux varient à travers l’épaisseur. La variation des propriétés suit deux distributions en loi de puissance et exponentielle en termes de fractions volumiques. En outre, ce document estime de matériaux orthotropes plutôt que de matériaux isotropes. La condition de traction libre sur la surface supérieure est remplacée par l’état de charge uniforme appliquée sur la surface supérieure. Les résultats numériques sont présentés pour montrer l’effet de la distribution des propriétés du matériau sur les contraintes et les flèches. Les résultats obtenus montrent que, pour tous les autres paramètres restant les mêmes, les cas étudiées (pour les contraintes et les flèches) des plaques P-FGM et E-FGM sont toujours proportionnelles à celles des plaques homogènes isotropes. This paper presents an original hyperbolic (first present model) and parabolic (second present model) shear and normal deformation theory for the bending analysis to account for the effect of thickness stretching in functionally graded sandwich plates. Indeed, the number of unknown functions involved in these presents theories is only five, as opposed to six or even greater numbers in the case of other shear and normal deformation theories. The present theory accounts for both shear deformation and thickness stretching effects by a hyperbolic variation of ail displacements across the thickness and satisfies the stress-free boundary conditions on the upper and lower surfaces of the plate without requiring any shear correction factor. It is evident from the present analyses; the thickness stretching effect is more pronounced for thick plates and it needs to be taken into consideration in more physically realistic simulations. The numerical results are compared with 3D exact solution, quasi-3-dimensional solutions and with other higher-order shear deformation theories, and the superiority of the present theory can be noticed.

The present theory accounts for both shear deformation and thickness stretching effects by a hyperbolic variation of ail displacements across the thickness and satisfies the stress-free boundary conditions on the upper and lower surfaces of the plate without requiring any shear correction factor. Equations of motion are derived from Hamiltonas principle. Analytical solutions for the bending and free vibration analysis are obtained for simply supported plates. The obtained results are compared with three-dimensional and quasi- three-dimensional solutions and those predicted by other plate theories. It can be concluded that the present theory is not only accurate but also simple in predicting the bending and free vibration responses of functionally graded plates.

Functionally graded material (FGM) plates can be bonded to the soffit of a beam as a means of retrofitting the RC beam. In such plated beams, tensile forces develop in the bonded plate and these have to be transferred to the original beam via interfacial shear and normal stresses. In this paper, an interfacial stress analysis is presented for simply supported concrete beam bonded with a functionally graded material FGM plate. This new solution is intended for application to beams made of all kinds of materials bonded with a thin plate, while all existing solutions have been developed focusing on the strengthening of reinforced concrete beams, which allowed the omission of certain terms. It is shown that both the normal and shear stresses at the interface are influenced by the material and geometry parameters of the composite beam. This research is helpful for the understanding on mechanical behavior of the interface and design of the FGM-RC hybrid structures.

The buckling analysis of anti-symmetric cross-ply laminated composite plates under different boundary conditions is examined by using a refined higher order exponential shear deformation theory. The theory, which has strong similarity with classical plate theory in many aspects, accounts for a quadratic variation of the transverse shear strains across the thickness and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate without using shear correction factors. The number of independent unknowns in the present theory is four, as against five in other shear deformation theories. In this investigation, the equations of motion for simply supported thick laminated rectangular plates are derived and obtained through the use of Hamilton’s principle. The closed-form solutions of anti-symmetric cross-ply and angle-ply laminates are obtained using Navier solution. Numerical results for critical buckling loads anti-symmetric cross-ply laminated composite plates are presented. The validity of the present study is demonstrated by comparison with other higher-order solutions reported in the literature. It can be concluded that the proposed theory is accurate and simple in solving the buckling behaviors of anti-symmetric cross-ply laminated composite plates under different boundary conditions

A two new high-order shear deformation theory for bending analysis is presented for a simply supported, functionally graded plate with porosities resting on an elastic foundation. This porosities may possibly occur inside the functionally graded materials (FGMs) during their fabrication, while material properties varying to a simple power-law distribution along the thickness direction. Unlike other theories, there are only four unknown functions involved, as compared to five in other shear deformation theories. The theories presented are variationally consistent and strongly similar to the classical plate theory in many aspects. It does not require the shear correction factor, and gives rise to the transverse shear stress variation so that the transverse shear stresses vary parabolically across the thickness to satisfy free surface conditions for the shear stress. It is established that the volume fraction of porosity significantly affect the mechanical behavior of thick function ally graded plates. The validity of the two new theories is shown by comparing the present results with other higher-order theories. The influence of material parameter, the volume fraction of porosity and the thickness ratio on the behavior mechanical P-FGM plate are represented by numerical examples.

In this paper, an efficient and simple refined theory is presented for buckling analysis of functionally graded plates. The theory, which has strong similarity with classical plate theory in many aspects, accounts for a quadratic variation of the transverse shear strains across the thickness and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate without using shear correction factors. The mechanical properties of functionally graded material are assumed to vary according to a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. Governing equations are derived from the principle of minimum total potential energy. The closed-form solutions of rectangular plates are obtained. Comparison studies are performed to verify the validity of present results. The effects of loading conditions and variations of power of functionally graded material, modulus ratio, aspect ratio, and thickness ratio on the critical buckling load of functionally graded plates are investigated and discussed.

By dividing the transverse displacement into the bending and shear parts and making further assumptions, the number of unknowns and equations of motion of the present theory is reduced and hence makes them simple to use. In the analysis, the equation of motion for simply supported thick laminated rectangular plates is obtained through the use of Hamilton´s principle. Numerical results for the bending and dynamic behaviors of antisymmetric cross-ply laminated plate under various boundary conditions are presented. The validity of the present solution is demonstrated by comparison with solutions available in the literature. Numerical results show that the present theory can archive accuracy comparable to the existing higher order shear deformation theories that contain more number of unknowns.

The static analysis of the simply supported functionally graded plate under transverse load by using a new sinusoidal shear deformation theory based on the neutral surface concept is investigated analytically in the present paper. No transversal shear correction factors are needed because a correct representation of the transversal shearing strain is given. The mechanical properties of the FGM plate are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness according to a power law formulation except Poisson´s ratio, which is kept constant. The equilibrium and stability equations are derived by employing the principle of virtual work. Results are provided for thick to thin plates and for different values of the gradient index k, which subjected to sinusoidal or uniformly distributed lateral loads. The accuracy of the present results is verified by comparing it with finite element solution. From the obtained results, it can be concluded that the proposed theory is accurate and efficient in predicting the displacements and stresses of functionally graded plates.

It can be concluded that the proposed theory is accurate and simple in solving the static, the buckling, and free vibration behaviors of laminated composite plates.

Flexural bending analysis of perfect and imperfect functionally graded materials plates under hygro-thermo-mechanical loading are investigated in this present paper. Due to technical problems during FGM fabrication, porosities and micro-voids can be created inside FGM samples which may lead to the reduction in density and strength of materials. In this investigation, the FGM plates are assumed to have even and uneven distributions of porosities over the plate cross-section. The modified rule of mixture is used to approximate material properties of the FGM plates including the porosity volume fraction. In order the elastic coefficients, thermal coefficient and moisture expansion coefficient of the plate are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction. The elastic foundation is modeled as two-parameter Pasternak foundation. The equilibrium equations are given and a number of examples are solved to illustrate bending response of Metal-Ceramic plates subjected to hygro-thermo-mechanical effects and resting on elastic foundations. The influences played by many parameters are investigated.

The bending problem of a functionally graded cantilever beam subjected to uniformly distributed load is investigated. The material properties of the functionally graded beam are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness, according to a power-law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. First, the partial differential equation, which is satisfied by the stress functions for the axisymmetric deformation problem is derived. Then, stress functions are obtained by proper manipulation. A practical example is presented to show the application of the method.

The finite element analysis then is used to calculate the interfacial stress distribution and evaluate the effect of the structural parameters on the interfacial behavior. The objective of this present research is to propose a simplified analytical and numerical approach to predict the interfacial stress of simply supported reinforced-concrete beams reinforced with prestressed carbon fiber-reinforced polymer composite plate. Analytical design methodology is based on equilibrium and deformations compatibility requirements in and all parts of the strengthened beam, i.e. the concrete beam, the prestressed carbon fiber-reinforced polymer plate, and the adhesive layer. The results show that there exists a high concentration of both shear and normal stress at the ends of the laminate, which might result in premature failure of the strengthening scheme at these locations. In numerical analysis, the mesh sensitivity test shows that the finite element results for interfacial stresses are not sensitive to the finite element mesh. The finite element analysis then is used to calculate the interfacial stress distribution and evaluate the effect of the structural parameters on the interfacial behavior. A recently popular method for retrofitting reinforced concrete (RC) beams is to bond fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) plates to their tensile faces. An important failure mode of such plated beams is the debonding of the FRP plates from the concrete due to high level of stress concentration in the adhesive at the ends of the FRP plate. This paper presents an improved solution for interfacial stresses in a concrete beam bonded with the FRP plate by including the effect of the adherend shear deformations. The analysis is based on the deformation compatibility approach where both the shear and normal stresses are assumed to be invariant across the adhesive layer thickness. In the present theoretical analysis, the adherend shear deformations are taken into account by assuming a parabolic shear stress through the thickness of both the concrete beam and the bonded plate. Numerical results from the present analysis are presented both to demonstrate the advantages of the present solution over existing ones and to illustrate the main characteristics of interfacial stress distributions.
