Öğretmen yetiştirme alanıyla ilgili araştırmalarda öğretmen adaylarının sahip oldukları öğretme ve öğrenme anlayışlarını belirlemek amacıyla sık başvurulan araçlardan biri Öğrenme Öğretme Anlayışı Ölçeği (ÖÖAÖ)’dir. Orijinal ölçeğin Türkçeye uyarlanmış formunun yapısal sorunlar (model uyumu, boyut ve madde sayısı vb.) içermesi nedeniyle çalışmanın öncelikli amacı ölçeği uyarlama çalışması yardımıyla daha sağlam bir yapıya kavuşturmaktır. İkinci olarak ölçekte, anahtar role sahip maddelerin belirlenmesi ve daha hızlı uygulama ve değerlendirme olanağı sağlayan bir kısa formun oluşturulması da hedeflenmiştir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda ÖÖAÖ 1841 öğretmen adayına uygulanmıştır. Toplanan verilerle SPSS’de gerçekleştirilen açımlayıcı faktör analizleri (AFA) yardımıyla 21 maddelik uzun ÖÖAÖ’ye ulaşılmıştır. Bu uzun formdaki maddelerden yola çıkarak uzman görüşleri ve AFA yardımıyla ÖÖAÖ’nün 14 maddeden oluşan kısa formu oluşturulmuştur. AFA sonuçları ölçeğin her iki formunun da orijinal ölçekle paralel olarak iki boyutlu bir yapıda olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. 21 maddelik uzun formda iki boyut altında toplanan maddelerin toplam varyansın % 45’ini açıkladığı, yapılandırmacı ve geleneksel boyut için Cronbach alfa güvenirlik katsayılarının sırasıyla .88 ve .92 olduğu belirlenmiştir. ÖÖAÖ kısa formu için açıklanan toplam varyansın %50,5, yapılandırmacı ve geleneksel boyut için Cronbach alfa güvenirlik katsayılarının sırasıyla .84 ve .81 olduğu görülmüştür. Uzun formda iki boyut altında yer alan maddelerin faktör yükleri .50’nin, kısa formda ise .64’ün üzerindedir.

Model eliciting activities have been developed by inspiring from real life problems encountered in science field where mathematics is used extensively and various fields such as trade, engineering, and sports. With the use of these activities in math classes, it is aimed that students do mathematics in mathematics lessons similar to scientists and benefit from mathematics in solving real life problem situations. However, there are some principles to consider when designing effective model eliciting activities. These are reality, modeling, self-evaluation, model certification, model generalization and effective prototype principles. Modeling eliciting activities prepared in line with these principles are learning activities in which students are encouraged to mathematize the reality through expressing, testing, revising their own ways of thinking. In our study, it was aimed to examine the opinions of pre-service teachers, who are deal in the task of designing model eliciting activities in accordance with these six special principles. Within the scope of the study, 35 pre-service mathematics teachers who continue their 3rd year, have been given the task of designing an activity in accordance with these principles after training on model eliciting activities. Following the completion of task, interviews were held with 11 volunteer pre-service teachers. As a result of the analysis of the data obtained from the interviews, the themes that provide information about the important experiences of prospective teachers in the activity design process, their difficulties, the task's contribution to them, the contexts of the designed activities were reached and some suggestions were made on teacher training in this direction.

Araştırmada öğretmen adaylarının benlik saygıları, narsisizm düzeyleri ve öğrenme-öğretme yaklaşımları arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemek amaçlanmıştır. Bunun için Rokeach’ın (1968) inanç sistemi yaklaşımına dayanarak bir yapısal model önerilmiştir. Üç ayrı veri toplama aracının kullanıldığı çalışmaya 923 öğretmen adayı katılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonuçları öğretmen adaylarının benlik saygılarının narsisizm düzeyleriyle pozitif yönde ilişkiye sahip olduğunu göstermektedir. Ayrıca çalışmada öğretmen adaylarının benlik saygıları ve narsisizm düzeylerinin gelecekteki sınıflarında uygulayacakları öğrenme öğretme yaklaşımı tercihinde etkili olduğunu gösterir deliller elde edilmiştir. Bulgular, öğretmen adaylarının benlik saygıları yükseldikçe yapılandırmacı öğrenme-öğretme yaklaşımını benimseme düzeylerinin arttığını, narsisizm düzeyleri yükseldikçe de geleneksel öğrenme-öğretme yaklaşımını daha fazla benimsemekte olduklarını göstermektedir. Çalışmada elde edilen sonuçlar doğrultusunda öğretmen yetiştirme alanına katkı sağlayacak bazı önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

Matematiği gerçek yaşamla ilişkilendirmek, onu yaşayarak öğrenmeyi sağlamak ve yaşamında matematiği kullanabilen bireyler yetiştirmek amacıyla geçmişten günümüze çeşitli yöntemler önerilmiştir. Model oluşturma etkinlikleri (MOE) de bu konudaki ihtiyacı gidermek üzere geliştirilen ve bu amaca hizmet etmek konusunda iddialı olan bir araç olarak göze çarpmaktadır. MOE’nin bu amaca uygunluğunun altında yatan etkenlerden biri de bu etkinlikler geliştirilirken dikkate alınması gereken prensiplerdir. Araştırmada ortaokul 5. sınıf matematik uygulamaları dersi öğretim materyalinde yer alan 36 adet problem çözme etkinliğinin kullanışlı MOE tasarlanırken dikkate alınması gereken prensiplere uygunluk düzeylerini belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmacılar etkinliklerin prensiplere uygunluk düzeyini belirlemek amacıyla 19 kriterin yer aldığı bir form oluşturmuşlardır. Ardından bu form yardımıyla yapılan inceleme sonucu elde edilen nitel veriler sayısallaştırılarak betimsel analizler yapılmıştır. Sonuç olarak öğretim materyalinde yer alan etkinliklere genel olarak bakıldığında MOE tasarlama prensiplerini sağlama düzeyinin orta seviyenin üzerinde olduğu görülmüştür. En düşük sağlanma düzeyine sahip prensiplerin ise “model genelleştirme” ve “model oluşturma” olduğu belirlenmiştir. MOE tasarlama prensiplerini sağlama düzeyleri orta seviyenin altında olan etkinlikler ayrıntılı olarak incelenerek bu etkinliklerin karşılamak konusunda zayıf kaldığı kriterler belirlenmiş ve bu doğrultuda gelecekteki olası güncellemelerde daha güçlü etkinliklerin tasarlanması konusunda katkı sağlayıcı önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

In this study, we administrated dynamic geometry activities which provide students opportunities to explore and estimate geometric figures to connect measurement estimation with geometry. The aim of the study is to investigate effects of using dynamic geometry activities on eighth graders’ achievement levels and estimation performances in triangles. The study was designed a quantitative research design. A pretest – posttest experimental study was employed to investigate using dynamic geometry activities on eighth grade students’ achievement level and estimation performance in triangles. Participants were 63 eighth graders. The participants’ ages vary between 13 and 14 years. Since the school is a public school, it contains students at nearly every socio-economic level. Experimental group consists of 32 students and comparison group consists of 31 students. Dynamic geometry supported instruction and traditional instruction methods were used in experimental and comparison groups, respectively. The results revealed that teaching triangles with instruction supported by dynamic geometry activities increased eighth graders’ performance in triangles. In addition, the instruction supported by dynamic geometry activities had significant effects on eighth graders’ estimation performances in triangles. Using dynamic geometry activities provides students experiences about conceptual bases of the relations in triangles. Therefore, students who take a dynamic geometry instruction make better estimations than those who did not take.

Araştırmada sayılar üzerine yaratıcı yazma etkinliklerinin öğretmen adaylarının bu konudaki bilişsel yapıları üzerine etkilerini incelemek amaçlanmıştır. Nitel ve nicel araştırma yöntemlerinin birlikte kullanıldığı çalışmada tek grup öntest-sontest deseninden ve bütüncül tek durum deseninden yararlanılmıştır. 28 öğretmen adayının yazma etkinlikleri öncesinde ve sonrasında hazırladıkları zihin haritaları, yazmış oldukları öykü ve şiirler içerik analizine tabi tutulmuştur. Ön- son zihin haritalarından alınan puanlar arasındaki farkın anlamlı olup olmadığı t-testiyle incelenmiştir. Zihin haritalarında sayılarla ilgili matematiksel kavram ve ilişkiler göz önüne alınarak belirlenen ön ve son puanlar arasında anlamlı bir fark görülememiştir. Zihin haritalarındaki günlük yaşam unsurları dikkate alınarak belirlenen son harita puanlarının ön harita puanlarından anlamlı düzeyde yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir. İçerik analizleri sonucu öğretmen adaylarının sayılar konusundaki kavramların anlamlarını ve aralarındaki ilişkileri yazılarına yeterince yansıtamadıkları, zihin haritalarında öğretmen adaylarının büyük bölümünün sayılarla ilgili kavramları sınırlı düzeyde ve sorunlu biçimde ilişkilendirdikleri, öykülerde kullanılan ve ön haritalarda yer almayan bazı kavramlara son haritalarda yer verildiği belirlenmiştir. The purpose of the study is to investigate the impacts of creative writing activities about numbers on pre-service teachers’ cognitive structures. In this mixed design, it has been used both pre- experimental design and single case study. The content analysis applied to 28 pre-service math teachers’ pre and post mind maps, stories and poems that they have written. The t-test has been used to understand whether there is a significant difference between pre and post scores. The results have showed that there is not any significant difference between pre and post scores about mathematical conceptions and relations within mind maps. However, it is realized that there is a significant difference in the post-test results of the mind maps considering the case of the daily-life conceptions about the numbers. The results of content analysis have showed that the pre-service teachers could not reflect the meanings of and the relationships among the mathematical conceptions on the stories at appropriate level; most of the pre-service teachers have problematically associated numerical conceptions; however, they have used certain conceptions that they have benefitted from within the stories and that they did not use within pre-maps.

Accepted: 05.06.2014 In this study, eight-grade students’ estimation achievements in triangles were analysed according to motivation types and knowledge type expectations. Three hundred and thirty-seven students from three different elementary schools attended in this study. In order to determine the students’ estimation performances, an estimation test in triangles (ETT) was developed. At the end of the study, it was indicated that the estimation performances of the students in triangles related with high level intrinsic motivation and conceptual knowledge expectation. It was also indicated that the estimation performances of the students who have extrinsic motivation source were lower. Moreover it was pointed out that the students expecting procedural knowledge from their teachers had low level of estimation performance in triangles. This study shows that estimation skills in triangles, one of the subjects of geometry, are related with some important variables like motivation types and conceptual knowledge. There are some important questions that should be answered by future studies like ‘How can students’ estimation skills in geometry be developed? ‘How can it be integrated into curriculum? What are the possible strategies students apply and which factors are they related to?’

This research aimed to identify theeducational approaches that pre-service elementary mathematics teachers adopt for their first teaching practice (TP) and the reasons for their choices. It was carried out with thirteen pre-service teachers (PTs). These PTs were observed during their first TP in a real school setting, and interviews were conducted after the TP. Our observations led us to the conclusion that PTs generally tended to utilize traditional teaching approaches. The interviews revealed that PTs' epistemological beliefs and beliefs about learning and teaching mathematics are largely in line with constructivist theory, and that their tendency for traditional approaches was due to: the influence of past educational experiences, the teaching styles of in-service teachers working at practice schools and their negative opinions about constructivist approaches, the limitations of their university educations, their lack of experience, and choosing the easier option. We conclude with a discussion of the implications of these findings for teacher training in mathematics.

This study involved 34 pre-service teachers who did teaching practices in schools. It was intended to assess the opinions of pre-service teachers on the use of GeoGebra, dynamic mathematics software, inmathematics education.Analysing data collected through interviews and a questionnaire leads to important conclusions regarding the problems encountered by pre-service teachers who had been trained for a semester in GeoGebra and used GeoGebra in some of their practices, the advantages of GeoGebra for students, the preservice teachers' preferences regarding the use of GeoGebra in teaching practices, using it when they become teachers and the reasons behind these preferences. These findings are the basis for several proposals that will contribute to the integration of GeoGebra into their classes by pre-service teachers. © The Author 2013. In this research; a problem situation, which requires the ability of thinking in three dimensions, was developed by the researchers. As the purpose of this paper is producing a modeling task suggestion, the problem was visualized and analyzed in GeoGebra3D environment. Then visual solution was also been supported by algebraic approach. So, the capability of creating the relationship between geometric and algebraic representations in GeoGebra was also presented in 3D sense.
