Background: The mental health of medical residents, challenged by their intensive training, is of utmost concern. In light of reported suicides among Iranian medical residents in 2021, this study investigates the factors behind suicidal ideation among medical residents during the COVID-19 pandemic in Tehran., Methods: This study conducted a cross-sectional online survey among medical residents in various specialties in Tehran, Iran, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Suicidal ideation was assessed using the Beck Scale for Suicidal Ideation (BSSI), while depression, anxiety, and stress were measured using the DASS-21. It also collected demographic and clinical data from the participants. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Chi-square test, and multiple linear regression to examine the prevalence and determinants of suicidal ideation among medical residents., Results: The study enrolled 353 medical residents and found that 34.3% of them had suicidal ideation, with 10.2% indicating a high risk. The study also found high levels of depression, anxiety, and stress among the participants. The variables that significantly predicted suicidal ideation were depression, history of alcohol/substance use, personal history of suicide attempts, history of self-mutilation, family history of suicide attempts, number of shifts in a month, death of close persons because of COVID-19, and income. Depression was the strongest predictor of suicidal ideation., Conclusion: These findings underscore the urgent need for effective interventions and support systems to address the mental health needs of medical residents in Iran. Herein, a simple one-pot solvothermal approach is used to create magnetic porous carbon nanocomposites which obtained from a nickel-based metal-organic framework (Ni-MOF) and examined for their ability to uptake methyl orange (MO) dye. Derived carbons with exceptional porosity and magnetic properties were created during the different pyrolysis temperatures of Ni-MOF (700, 800, and 900 °C) under a nitrogen atmosphere. The black powders were given the names CDM-700, CDM-800, and CDM-900 after they were obtained. A variety of analysis methods, including FESEM, EDS, XRD, FTIR, VSM, and N 2 adsorption-desorption were used to characterize as-prepared powders. Furthermore, adsorbent dosage, contact time, pH variation, and initial dye concentration effects was investigated. The maximum adsorption capacities were 307.38, 5976.35, 4992.39, and 2636.54 mg/g for Ni-MOF, CDM-700, CDM-800, and CDM-900, respectively, which show the ultrahigh capacity of the resulted nanocomposites compared to newest materials. The results showed that not only the crystallinity turned but also the specific surface area was increased about four times after pyrolyzing. The results showed that the maximum adsorption capacity of MO dye for CDM-700 was obtained at adsorbent dosage of 0.083 g/L, contact time of 60 min, feed pH of 3, and temperature of 45 °C. The Langmuir model has the best match and suggests the adsorption process as a single layer. According to the results of reaction kinetic studies using well-known models, the pseudo-second-order model (R 2  = 0.9989) displayed high agreement with the experimental data. Sisal fiber is a potent economical biomaterial for designing composites because of its low density, high specific strength, no toxic effects, and renewability. The present study utilized sisal fiber as a starting material and subjected it to modification to produce a sisal fiber/polyaniline/bio-surfactant rhamnolipid-layered double hydroxide nanocomposite material denoted as SF@PANI@LDH@RL. The composite was evaluated for its efficacy in removing reactive orange 16 (RO16) and methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solutions. The synthesized adsorbent was characterized by FTIR, XRD, and SEM-EDS techniques; these analyses indicated the successful modification of the sisal fiber. The primary factors, including contact time, adsorbent dosage, dye concentration, temperature, and pH, were optimized for achieving the most excellent adsorption efficiency. On the one hand, methylene blue removal is enhanced in the basic solution (pH = 10). On the other hand, reactive orange 16 adsorption was favored in the acidic solution (pH = 3). The highest adsorption capacities for methylene blue and reactive orange 16 were 24.813 and 23.981 mg/g at 318 K, respectively. The Temkin isotherm model, which proves the adsorption procedure of methylene blue and reactive orange 16 could be regarded as a chemisorption procedure, supplies the most suitable explanation for the adsorption of methylene blue (R 2  = 0.983) and reactive orange 16 (R 2  = 0.996). Furthermore, Elovich is the best-fitting kinetic model for both dyes (R 2  = 0.986 for MB and R 2  = 0.987 for RO16). The recommended SF@PANI@LDH@RL adsorbent was reused six consecutive times and showed stable adsorption performance. Statement of the Problem: As an important determinant of social acceptability, facial attractiveness can be influenced by decisions of orthodontists through treatment. The perception of facial attractiveness is influenced by several factors., Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in perception of facial attractiveness among male and female raters in different age groups through comparison of silhouettes., Materials and Method: 208 subjects (99 male, 109 female) aged between 18 to 70 years were assigned to three groups of young adults, middle-aged and senior and rated pre-designed silhouettes on a 7-level rating scale (1= the least esthetic, 7=the most esthetic). Two series of 7 silhouettes were prepared for men and women in which the mandible was protruded or retruded in 2-mm increments from the average. The evaluators were asked to grade the profiles separately for male and female. T-test and one-way ANOVA were used for the statistical analysis with α = 0.05., Results: The first and third age groups, favored female profile 2 among class II profiles. However, the second age group preferred the average profile. Male class II profiles were rated exactly as female ones among the three age groups. The average female class III silhouette was preferred in all age groups. The first and second age group preferred the average male profile in male class III silhouettes. The oldest group however, preferred profile 2. For both sexes, the least acceptable profile in each set of silhouettes was the most protruded or retruded., Conclusion: There were few differences in perception of facial attractiveness between different age groups. In all groups, even small mandibular protrusion was unacceptable and mild retrusion was considered attractive.

Objectives: Saffron is the stigma of Crocus sativus L., which has the potentials to play a role in the treatment of many diseases. Although many researches are now going on this precious spice, there are few data on saffron safety in human, especially in patients with chronic mental illnesses. This study aimed to evaluate the short-term safety and tolerability of both saffron and crocin (its major constituent) in adult patients with schizophrenia., Materials and Methods: The capsules of saffron aqueous extract (SAE) and crocin were used to evaluate short-term safety and tolerability in patients with schizophrenia. A double-blind, placebo-controlled study was performed on patients with schizophrenia. The patients were all male and were divided into three 22-patient groups. While receiving their normal treatment, they also received a 12 week treatment with SAE (15 mg twice daily), crocin (15 mg twice daily) or placebo., Results: A total of 61 patients completed the trial; none of them reported a serious side effect. WBC count increased significantly in patients receiving saffron aqua extract (SAE), but it was within the normal range and had no clinical significance. Other hematologic components, markers of thyroid, liver and kidney or inflammation markers had no statistically significant difference among the groups., Conclusion: This study showed that SAE and crocin in doses of 15 mg twice daily were safely tolerated in patients with schizophrenia.

The objective of this study was to examine the effect of unilateral ureteral obstruction on the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) in pig kidney. Changes in ADC is suggested to reflect changes in the ratio of extracellular to intracellular volume. Thirteen pigs were allocated into three groups: 1) pigs subjected to acute unilateral ureteral obstruction (AUO) (n = 3), 2) pigs subjected to chronic partial unilateral obstruction (CPUO) (n = 3), and 3) control pigs (n = 7). The extra- to intracellular volume ratio was indirectly measured in both the ipsilateral obstructed kidney and contralateral non-obstructed kidney by the ADC of the renal tissue using diffusion-weighted echo-planar magnetic resonance imaging. ADC was 2.07 +/- 0.27 x 10(-3) mm2/s in the cortex and 2.10 +/- 0.24 x 10(-3) mm2/s in the medulla of normal control kidneys. In the obstructed kidney from the AUO group the ADC of the medulla was significantly reduced 24 hours after occlusion of the ureter (1.65 +/- 0.05 x 10(-3) mm2/s vs 2.10 +/- 0.24 x 10(-3) mm2/s; p < 0.05). Similarly ADC decreased slightly in the cortex of the ipsilateral kidney. In contrast, ADC of the ipsilateral kidney of CPUO pigs was increased both in the renal medulla (3.13 +/- 0.21 x 10(-3) mm2/s vs. 2.10 +/- 0.24 x 10(-3) mm2/s; p < 0.05) and cortex (3.09 +/- 0.14 x 10(-3) mm2/s vs. 2.07 x 10(-3) mm2/s, p < 0.05). In conclusion, the results of the present study suggest that diffusion weighted imaging (ADC) may be a useful parameter to incorporate when identifying whether a ureteric obstruction is acute or chronic.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to create a 3D visualization of the urinary tract by a novel virtual reality approach, and to evaluate the usefulness of this method for papillary classification as compared with 2D urogram obtained by maximum intensity projection (MIP)., Materials and Methods: In one healthy pig, magnetic resonance urography was performed using a T1-weighted 3D gradient echo pulse sequence. Post-processing was performed by means of an MIP algorithm and by using 3D virtual reality modelling, followed by manual classification of papillae as being either simple or compound., Results: The 2D MIP urogram demonstrated 6 simple and 6 compound papillae, whereas the 3D urogram demonstrated 5 simple and 7 compound papillae. In both urograms, some papillae were unsuccessfully classified., Conclusion: The possibility of using virtual reality devices allowed 3D rotation and offered additional diagnostic information. However, further studies should reveal its feasibility in diseased kidneys.
