And its regulation is mainly achieved through the "neuro-endocrine-immune" network system. Early diagnosis of gastric cancer is difficult in China due to the lack of a valid method for endoscopic screening. Early gastric cancer, especially flat gastric cancer, lacks specific endoscopic features. Many cases appear to be similar to ordinary gastritis cases under normal white light endoscopy, which can lead to misdiagnosis. In order to find a new method to improve detection rate of early gastric cancer in China, we designed a trial to validate linked color imaging (LCI) for screening of early gastric cancer in a high-risk population, as compared to white light imaging (WLI). Subjects were randomly allocated to either the LCI + WLI or WLI group and then subjected to gastroscopy and all endoscopies were made after special preparation. All endoscopists had knowledge of this experiment. The main indicator was the rate of detection of gastric neoplastic lesions. The difference in the detection rate between the two groups is reported. The detection rate was 4.31% in the WLI group and 8.01% in the LCI + WLI group. This is a difference of 3.70% with a P value

Introduction Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) characterized by a relapsing-remitting course owing to recurrent intestinal inflammation. UC often has symptoms such as intermittent rectal bleeding, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. As the precise etiology of UC has not completely clarified, UC has become a public health challenge worldwide. According to an epidemiological survey, there were about 350,000 new cases of IBD in China from 2005 to 2014. By 2025, the number of IBD patients in China will reach 1.5 million. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been widely used to treat UC in China, however, it is still challenging to systematically determine the efficacy of in UC. Therefore, this trial aims to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of CHM in the treatment of mild active UC patients. Methods A multi-center, double-blinding, double-dummy, active-controlled, randomized trial will be established. A total of 240 patients in 6 centers with mild active UC (Mayo score is 3-5 points) and TCM syndrome of damp-heat stasis blocking and spleen-qi deficiency will be randomly allocated in the ratio of 1:1 to 2 groups: the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group will receive Hudi enteric-coated capsules (HEC) and enteric-coated mesalazine tablets placebo; the control group will receive enteric-coated mesalazine tablets and HEC placebo. Each group will be treated for 8 weeks. The primary therapeutic outcome: the rate of clinical efficacy and clinical remission at 8 weeks of treatment (last survey point) according to the modified Mayo score. The secondary outcomes: individual symptom score, TCM syndrome score, endoscopic response rate, mucosal healing rate, and quality of life scale score. Outcomes will be assessed at baseline and the end of the trial. Besides, intestinal mucosa, stools and blood biopsies from the mild active UC patients before and after treatment will be collected to reveal the underlying mechanisms. Discussion The results of this trial will provide compelling evidence of the efficacy and safety of HEC for treatment of mild active UC and preliminarily show the potential mechanism of how HEC acts. Finally, it will widen treatment options for patients with mild active UC.

The aim of this study was to develop and validate the large intestine dampness-heat syndrome questionnaire (LIDHSQ) for patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). The domains and items of the LIDHSQ were developed according to standard procedures, namely, construct definition, item generation, language testing, content validity, pilot study, and validation study. At first, a total of 20 items in 3 domains were generated based on literature review and expert consultation. After the item selection, the LIDHSQ contains 11 items in three domains: disease-related domain (diarrhoea, abdominal pain, bloody purulent stool, and mucus stool), heat domain (fever, dry mouth, red tongue, yellow fur, and anal burning), and dampness domain (greasy fur and defecation disorder). The Cronbach's alphas of all domains were greater than 0.6. All of the intraclass correlation coefficients were greater than 0.8. The LIDHSQ and domain scores of the patients with LIDHS were higher than those of the patients with other syndromes (P < 0.001). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of the LIDHSQ was 0.900, with a 95% confidence interval of 0.872–0.928. When the cut-off value of the LIDHSQ was ≥ 7, the sensitivity and specificity were 0.867 and 0.854, respectively. The LIDHSQ is valid and reliable for measuring LIDHS in UC patients with good diagnostic efficacy. We recommend the use of the LIDHSQ in Chinese UC patients.

Six types of Chinese tea were incorporated into diets at four different levels (0, 1, 2 and 4 %) in order to determine their effects on the growth performance, fatty acid composition of muscle lipids and resistance to Aeromonas hydrophila infection of Ictalurus punctatus (channel catfish) fingerlings. Background: Colorectal Adenomatous Polyp (CAP) was one precursor of colorectal cancer (CRC) and having a high chance of developing into CRC. There was a lack of conclusive chemoprevention evidences to prevention new CAP occurrence in post-polypectomy. Xiaoai Jiedu Decoction, Chinese National Medical Professor (Zhou Zhongying)'s experience formula, has been used to treat new CAP occurrence in post-polypectomy from the 20th century in China. However, clinical research of Xiaoai Jiedu Decoction in the treatment of CAP recurrence was lack. We design this study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Xiaoai Jiedu Decoction in the treatment of new CAP occurrence in post-polypectomy on colonoscopy. Methods/Design: A randomized, controlled, blind and multicenter trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Xiaoai Jiedu Decoction is proposed. CAP patients (after complete polypectomy under colonoscopy) will be randomly assigned into Xiaoai Jiedu Decoction group and Xiaoai Jiedu Decoction mimetic agent group. Patients will receive 6-course treatments and a 2-year follow-up. Follow-up colonoscopy will be anticipated to perform in 1 and 2 years after the baseline examinations. The primary outcome measure is the new CAP occurrence in 1 and 2 years. The secondary outcome measure is the occurrence of advanced adenoma in 1 and 2 years. Discussion: This study will provide objective evidences to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Xiaoai Jiedu Decoction as an adjuvant treatment for new CAP occurrence in post-polypectomy. Ozonation of oxalic acid in aqueous solution was conducted using multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) as the catalyst. The effects of operating conditions on the catalytic performance of MWCNT for oxalic acid removal were investigated. The catalyst dosage and the reaction temperature exert positive effects on the oxalic acid removal by MWCNT catalytic ozonation. The maximum degradation efficiency of oxalic acid is obtained with its initial concentration of 1.0 mM. The degradation efficiency of oxalic acid increases with the initial pH value in the range of 1.0–3.0, whereas an opposite trend is observed when the initial pH value further increases from 3.0 to 6.1. The effect of initial pH value indicates that the oxalic acid adsorption on catalyst surface is essential for its effective removal by MWCNT catalytic ozonation. The inhibition of tert -butanol on the activity of MWCNT at initial pH 6.1 is more significant compared with the case of initial pH 3.0, suggesting that the contribution of bulk reactions to oxalic acid removal would be strengthened at a high initial pH value.

The influences of treatment conditions, gas atmosphere (N2 and H2) and temperature (450 °C and 950 °C), on the surface properties and catalytic performance of carbon nanotube (CNT) were investigated for the degradation of oxalic acid in aqueous solution by the process of catalytic ozonation. No obvious change on the textural properties of CNT is found after heat treatment, while the results of Boehm titration clearly indicate the reduction of acidic groups and the increase of basic groups on CNT surface after heat treatment under different conditions, and then a significant improvement on oxalic acid removal by CNT catalytic ozonation is obtained. The heat treatment of CNT under H2 atmosphere is more effective in eliminating acidic groups and increasing basic groups than the case of N2 atmosphere at the same temperature, which results in higher catalytic activity and lower total organic carbon (TOC) release in ozonation correspondingly. A linear relationship is observed between the pH at the point of zero charge (pHPZC) of CNT and the rate constant for ozonation of oxalic acid in the presence of CNT with different treatments. It is suggested that heat treatment can increase the basic property of CNT, which can enhance the contribution of surface reactions to the whole reactions for ozonation of oxalic acid.

Multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) has been used in the catalytic ozonation of oxalic acid in aqueous solution, which was pretreated using ozone and was characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), nitrogen adsorption and Boehm titration. The effect of ozonation pretreatment on the catalytic activity of MWCNT and the ozonation mechanism of oxalic acid in the presence of MWCNT were investigated. The results indicate that with the increasing pretreatment time, the atom ratio of oxygen to carbon and the number of surface acid groups on MWCNT increase, while the catalytic activity of MWCNT on ozonation of oxalic acid decreases, suggesting that the chemical characteristics of MWCNT mainly determine its catalytic activity on oxalic acid mineralization. The inhibition of tert-butyl alcohol on the degradation of oxalic acid is slight for pristine MWCNT catalytic ozonation and this inhibition trend becomes more obvious when MWCNT was pretreated by ozone. A free radical mechanism was proposed which involves both surface reactions and bulk reactions between the oxalic acid and active species.

[corrected] To investigate the role of glutathione (GSH) and γ-glutamylcysteine synthetase (γ-GCS) in lupus nephritis.Spectrophotometry was used to measure the oxidative/anti-oxidative indices including malonyldialdehyed (MDA) and GSH in the kidney of MRL/lpr lupus mice. Quantitative PCR and Western blotting were used to detected the expression of γ-GCS.The level of GSH was lowered whereas the level of MDA increased significantly in the kidney tissue of MRL/lpr lupus mice as compared with that in normal control mice. The expression of γ-GCS mRNA and protein was significantly decreased in MRL/lpr lupus mice (P0.05).MRL/lpr lupus mice have abnormal oxidative stress in the kidney tissue, where the expression of γ-GCS decreased to lead to reduced GSH production, damaged antioxidative capacity, and eventually exacerbation of oxidative damage in the kidney.

To improve the removal rates of ammonium nitrogen in the constructed wetlands, the traditional wavy subsurface-flow constructed wetland (W-SFCW) was modified to install the aeration tube in the second wave interval to improve the DO and the nitrification rates within the constructed wetlands. It was found that as most of COD had been removed in the second wave interval, nitrifying bacteria become dominant in the third wave interval, which led to the nitrification extent reaching more than 90%, and the ability to endure the impact of hydraulic loading was enhanced. Recirculation rates of 50% were adopted to evaluate the effect on TN removal. It showed that with effluent recirculation the average removal efficiencies of TN obviously increased to 50% when the wastewater entered 1/3 of the wetland not infall. The hydraulic loading of wetland reached 0.8 m3/(m2 x d), and COD organic loading was 56-112 g/(m2 x d), and the ammonium loading rate was 20-28 g/(m2 x d).

Leptomeningeal involvement is usually reported as a secondary event in advanced gastric carcinoma. Leptomeningeal carcinomatosis (LMC), as the initial manifestation of asymptomatic gastric cancer, is exceedingly rare with only a few cases reported in recent years. The presenting neurologic symptoms include headache, vomiting and seizures and are usually clinically atypical. The diagnosis of LMC is made via identification of malignant cells that originate from epithelial cells in the cerebrospinal fluid by cytological examination and provides cues to track the primary tumor. Endoscopic examinations are crucial to confirm the presence of gastric cancer, and imaging studies, especially gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging of the brain, are sometimes helpful in diagnosis. Thus far, there is no standard therapy for LMC, and despite all measures, the prognosis of the condition is extremely poor. Here, we report on the clinical features and diagnostic procedures for a patient with occult gastric cancer with Bormann type I macroscopic appearance and poor differentiation in pathology, who presented with LMC-induced neurological symptoms as the initial clinical manifestation. Additionally, we review the similar cases reported over the past years, making comparison among cases in order to provide more information for the future diagnosis.

Paper making Black Liquor (BL) difficult to treat. Acid-producing White Rot Fungus (AWRF) was used to regulate the pH and convert the lignin in paper making BL into forms more easier to degrade. Then the BL is put into further treatments of anaerobic hydrolysis, contact oxidation and internal electrolysis processes. Average removal rates of COD and colour are up to 98.04% and 97.68% respectively which have been obtained in case the inlet COD was 10,000 mg/L and colour was 6000 C?U, at temperature 25~29°C and retention time 3 days, 4 hours, 24 hours and 30?40 min in sequence of a continuous operation for 20 days.
