The project progress reports will be prepared in collaboration with WP leaders and submitted to the EC.

Guidelines will be prepared on how to set-up and manage Advanced Farmer Clusters. These will be prepared with the aid of all the projects facilitators and translated into national languages. They will be used to promote the Farmer Cluster concept across Europe through links with external stakeholders including policy makers in each partner country.

Agriculture is a key frontier for ensuring planetary health and conserving and promoting biodiversity. One way to strengthen biodiversity and sustainability in the countryside is through 'top-down' implementation of, for example, land reforms or increased research on green conversion. Another way is by 'bottom-up' promotion of farmer-led innovation and community engagement. The EU project “FRAMEwork”, led by The James Hutton Institute in Scotland, is helping farmer groups, so-called ‘farmer clusters’, with a shared interest in monitoring biodiversity on their farms in partnership with researchers and local communities as well as implementing more biodiversity-friendly farming at a landscape scale. In eleven active farmer clusters from Spain to Estonia, the project is combining two concepts, stemming from different practice domains: Farmer Clusters and Citizen Observatories. A farmer cluster, a popular concept first started by the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust in the UK, is a community of farmers, located in the same region, who work together to share knowledge and support and motivate one another to conserve and enhance the biodiversity and ecological health of their farming landscapes. Citizen Observatories, on the other hand, are considered as a particular form of citizen science and collective action with the aim of collecting evidence, creating knowledge, and applying the evidence and knowledge for advocacy and place-based decision-making to reach environmental and societal impact. The combination of the two concepts aims to maximise the strengths of both and create a strong, evidence-based, locally embedded community approach to biodiversity protection and enhancement by enabling the integration of structured monitoring with adaptive land management practices. In this poster, we will present a summary of the approach including different pathways to link farmer-led innovation via farmer clusters at a landscape scale with the Citizen Observatory concept as well as some intermediary results of the project ("Farmer Clusters for Realising Agrobiodiversity Management across Ecosystems"; €8M; 2020-2025; link: https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/862731).

The purpose of Deliverable D1.3 Annual activity plan and progress report is to summarise the principal project activities that will take place between October 2021 and October 2022 to promote successful planning, widespread awareness, scrutiny, and task alignment. Specifically, to abridge the collective headline tasks, their delivery teams and the conveyancing times and timings anticipated to meet the project Milestones & Deliverables, over the 12-month period. Thereby underwriting the overall objectives, impact and innovations envisaged for the project in the period.

This report constitutes an overview assessment of how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the UK���s food and nutrition security. It considers how the various parts of the food system have been impacted and what the consequences have been. It reports indications of sustained food prices increasing globally, which coupled with economic downturn, will exacerbate existing inequalities between being food secure and insecure, both in the UK and globally., This is one of several products uploaded to this repository from a UKRI Agile Response funded project supported through the Economic and Social Research Council "UK Food and Nutrition Security during and after the COVID-19 pandemic".

The southern part of the West African Craton includes the Baoule-Mossi Domain, the world’s premier Paleoproterozoic gold province (~10,000 metric ton gold endowment). Structural, metamorphic, and geochronological data suggest gold mineralisation occurred during three episodes that span much of the Eoeburnean and Eburnean orogenic cycles. Eoeburnean orogenic and rare skarn-hosted gold deposits formed between ca. 2200 and 2135 Ma during repeated episodes of volcanism, plutonism, and shortening, which thickened the Paleoproterozoic crust. Early Eburnean orogenic and placer gold deposits formed between ca. 2110 and 2095 Ma during inversion, metamorphism, and subsequent oblique shortening of intra-orogenic basins filled after ca. 2135 Ma. This episode of mineralisation terminated when the Baoule-Mossi Domain docked with the Archean Kenema-Man Domain at ca. 2095 Ma. Late Eburnean orogenic and less common intrusion-related gold deposits formed between ca. 2095 and 2060 Ma during strike-slip to oblique-slip tectonics, post-collisional high-K plutonism and crustal reworking across the western and southern Baoule-Mossi Domain. Eoeburnean gold deposits include ca. 10 % of the gold endowment of the Baoule-Mossi Domain, whereas the Early Eburnean and Late Eburnean deposits include ca. 50–70% and 20–40%, respectively. Here, we highlight the favourable confluence of accretion-collision tectonics, involving juvenile crust formation as well as protracted magmatic, metamorphic, and deformation histories that resulted in diachronous gold events spread over at least 100 myr throughout the Baoule-Mossi Domain.

Background: There is an urgent need to ensure that food production is maintained in response to either a reductionin use or lack of availability of natural resources. To this end, several strategies have been investigated to determinewhich agronomic approaches may improve crop yields under conditions of reduced water and/or nutrients provision,with special attention upon nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P). New technologies and practices have been developedfor key commercial crops, such as tomatoes. However, few of these are widely adopted in the field and evidence oftheir value in this production setting is limited. Methods: This protocol sets out a systematic map methodology that aims to provide a coherent synthesis of theavailable evidence among the literature on the techniques and management approaches that may ensure theproductivity of field-grown tomatoes under conditions of water-, N- and/or P-deficits, either as single or combinedstresses. To conduct the literature search, a search strategy was produced to define the scope of the systematic mapand to allow reproducibility of the approach. A list of published and unpublished sources of literature were selectedand a preliminary trial identified best-fit-for-purpose search-terms and -strings. A literature screening process was setwith consistency checks amongst reviewers at the title, abstract and full text screening stages. A series of eligibilitycriteria were defined to ensure objectivity and consistency in the selection of studies that are best suited to addressthe research question of the systematic map. In addition, a coding strategy was designed to set the means for metadataextraction outfromtheliteratureforreview. Adraftedstructuredquestionnaire willserve as the basefor collating themeta-data to produce a databasewherevariables will bequeriedfor theevidencesynthesis.This work is expected to inform stakeholders, researchers and policy makers regarding the extent and nature of the existing evidence base, and so serve as a basis by-which specific approaches may be highlighted as potential focal-areas in future.

Built by specialistâ s recommendations and reviews citations, this list was used to test the candidate search terms adequacy during the scoping study for search terms and strings.

Despite wide acceptance of the importance of integrated pest management, pest control in most cropping systems depends on the extensive use of pesticides, with detrimental effects on environmental and human health. These effects have led to many pesticides being removed from use, increasing demands for the rapid development of alternative solutions. Biological pest control aims for control through natural enemies, which significantly reduces and even eliminates pesticide use in crops. The role of noncultivated areas in agricultural landscapes in supporting biodiversity functions, such as the biological control by providing natural enemies with food and refuge, is only partially understood. Efficient implementation of biological pest control requires a wide range of knowledge and skills, not least those of farmers. Here we suggest the promotion of so called operational groups composed of farmers, scientists (agronomists and ecologists), extension service advisors, agribusiness representatives, and consumer associations to create objectives, strategies, and procedures to be realized at the local, regional, or national level. In this context, it is proposed that farmers will play a crucial role in providing solutions, as well as implementing, and disseminating practical knowledge and the concrete implementation of solutions.
