Ferrocement thin walls are the structural elements that comprise the earthquake resistant system of dwellings built with this material. This article presents the results drawn from an experimental campaign carried out over full-scale precast ferrocement thin walls that were assessed under lateral static loading conditions. The tests allowed the identification of structural parameters and the evaluation of the performance of the walls under static loading conditions. Additionally, an isotropic damage model for modelling the mortar was applied, as well as the classic elasto-plastic theory for modelling the meshes and reinforcing bars. The ferrocement is considered as a composite material, thus the serial/parallel mix theory is used for modelling its mechanical behavior. In this work a methodology for the numerical analysis that allows modeling the nonlinear behavior exhibited by ferrocement walls under static loading conditions, as well as their potential use in earthquake resistant design, is proposed. Los muros de ferrocemento de pared delgada son el elemento estructural principal que compone el sistema de resistencia sísmica de las viviendas de ferrocemento. En este artículo se presentan los resultados de una campaña experimental realizada sobre muros prefabricados de pared delgada de ferrocemento construidos a escala real 1:1, los cuales fueron probados bajo carga estática lateral. Estos ensayos permitieron identificar parámetros estructurales y evaluar la capacidad y el desempeño de los muros bajo carga estática. Adicionalmente, se aplicó el modelo de daño isótropo para la modelación del mortero y la teoría de elasto-plasticidad clásica para la modelación de las barras y la malla de refuerzo. El Ferrocemento se puede considerar como un material compuesto y por lo tanto se utilizó la teoría de mezclas serie/paralelo para modelar su comportamiento mecánico. Así, se planteó una metodología para el análisis numérico no lineal que permite modelar el comportamiento no lineal exhibido por los muros de ferrocemento bajo este tipo de cargas y su potencial uso en el diseño de muros de ferrocemento.

Los muros de ferrocemento de pared delgada son los elementos estructurales, que conforman el sistema sismo resistente de viviendas construidas con este material. En este artículo se presentan los resultados obtenidos de una campaña experimental; llevada a cabo sobre muros prefabricados de pared delgada a escala real, los cuales fueron evaluados bajo ensayos de carga cíclica. Finally, an analytical model that modeled the nonlinear dynamic behavior exhibited by ferrocement walls was implemented; its feasibility and potential use in earthquake resistant design of ferrocement walls was evaluated.

graficas, tablas En América Latina se ha popularizado el uso de muros de concreto reforzado como sistema estructural para la construcción de vivienda en altura, debido a su economía, velocidad de construcción y máximo aprovechamiento de áreas; sin embargo, el sistema se caracteriza por ser de baja ductilidad por la gran rigidez de los muros, motivo por el cual su desempeño se ve comprometido ante la respuesta a los diferentes sismos ocurridos en los últimos años. Para mejorar el desempeño de este sistema estructural, los reglamentos actuales aumentan las exigencias de diseño y de ductilidad con el uso de elementos de borde, aumento de secciones mínimas y aumento del valor de los esfuerzos cortantes mayorados, que al final del ejercicio se concluye en un aumento de costo de construcción de la edificación, y sin la garantía de que se obtenga el máximo desempeño esperado con la aplicación de estas acciones. Así, se debe buscar la forma de optimizar el desempeño de este tipo de estructuras mediante otras maneras que no requieran el aumento de secciones y de cuantías de aceros; y puede ser controlando la demanda sísmica que la estructura tenga ante la presencia de determinados sismos. En este caso, el aislamiento en la base del edificio es una opción que debe tenerse en cuenta pues su uso permite disminuir las exigencias sísmicas sobre la super estructura con lo que se puede llegar a tener un mejor desempeño estructural sin la necesidad de aumentar secciones, resistencias o cuantías de acero. Esta investigación toma tres edificios de 8, 12 y 16 pisos, con estructuras de muros en concreto reforzado de diferentes espesores y resistencias, localizados en zona de amenaza sísmica alta y en un suelo de condiciones y características del tipo D según el Reglamento NSR-10 que rige para Colombia, los cuales se diseñan con el método dinámico espectral elástico, detallando sus elementos, tanto en refuerzos para el alma como los elementos de borde, según los criterios del Reglamento NSR-10. Con el detallado y las características no lineales de los materiales usados para el diseño elástico, se analizan las mismas estructuras bajo el criterio del comportamiento inelástico mediante la implementación de rótulas de plasticidad distribuida en todos los muros. Este mismo procedimiento de diseño y análisis es repetido para los tres edificios equipándolos con aisladores sísmicos, comparando su desempeño sísmico con el obtenido de los análisis de los edificios de base fija. Los resultados muestran que se mejora el desempeño de la estructura aislada ante la ocurrencia de los sismos pasando de un nivel de desempeño de protección de la vida a uno de ocupación inmediata. Adicionalmente se observa que la super estructura de los edificios equipados con aisladores sísmicos tienden a mostrar un comportamiento de cuerpo rígido con derivas de piso equivalentes a solo un 10% de las derivas de los edificios de base fija. También se observa que el rango del valor del factor de reducción por disipación de energía R, establecido por la American Society of Civil Engineers, de 3/8 de R_0 y que no sea mayor que 2.0 ni menor que 1.0, puede ser aplicado para este tipo de estructuras; y, por otro lado, que el uso del aislamiento en base permite disminuir hasta un 50% el acero que es necesario si se diseña el edificio con base fija, superando el nivel de desempeño de la estructura. Se destaca también que las aceleraciones de piso que se obtienen cuando se diseña la estructura de muros de concreto con la base fija, son aproximadamente tres veces y medio el valor de la máxima aceleración encontrada en la estructura con base aislada, lo que implica que el edificio con aislamiento sísmico sea más económico en lo que respecta al diseño de los elementos no estructurales y que, adicionalmente, resguarda más los contenidos del edificio (Texto tomado de la fuente) In Latin America, the use of reinforced concrete walls as a structural system for the construction of high-rise housing has become popular solution, due to its economy, speed of construction and maximum use of building areas; however, this structural system is characterized by a low ductility capacity due to the large rigidity of the walls, compromising the building’s response and performance during recent seismic events. To improve the performance of this structural system, the current regulations increase the detailing and ductility requirements by forcing the use of boundary elements, increasing the minimum cross-sections, and augmenting the value of the design shear forces, that lead to an increase of the building cost, without the guarantee of increasing the expected seismic performance. Thus, it is necessary to look for ways to optimize the seismic performance of this type of structures without increasing cross-sections and steel reinforcement. This can be done by controlling the seismic demand on the structure. Seismic base isolation is an option that must be taken into account since its implementation allows reducing the seismic demands on the superstructure, improving its seismic performance without increasing cross-sections, strength or steel reinforcement. This research uses three buildings of 8, 12 and 16 stories, characterized by reinforced concrete wall structures of different thicknesses and strength, located in a high seismic risk zone in a soil type D according to the Colombian NSR-10 building code. These buildings were designed following the elastic spectral dynamic method, and the reinforcement detailing of the structural walls, of both the web and boundary elements were carried out according to the requirements of the Colombian NSR-10 building code. Based on the steel reinforcement and the nonlinear characteristics of the materials used for the elastic design, the same structures are analyzed under nonlinear analysis through the implementation of plasticity distributed hinges in all the walls. The same design and analysis procedures are repeated for the three buildings equipped with seismic isolation, comparing their seismic performance with that obtained from the analyses of the fixed base buildings. The results show that the performance of the isolated structures is better compared to that of the fixed based buildings, moving from a life safety performance level to immediate occupation. Additionally, it is observed that the superstructure of the buildings equipped with seismic isolators tend to show a rigid body behavior with inter-story drifts equal to 10% of those of the fixed base buildings. It is also observed that the value of the reduction factor R, established by the American Society of Civil Engineers, as 3/8 of that of the fixed based building, and varying between 1.0 and 2.0 can be applied for this type of structures. In addition, the use of seismic base isolation allows reducing up to 50% the reinforcement steel necessary for the building if designed as fixed base, while improving the level of seismic performance of the structure. It is also noteworthy that the peak floor accelerations obtained from the fixed base buildings, are approximately three and a half times larger than those of the seismic isolated buildings. fotografías, graficas, mapas, tablas En el siguiente trabajo de investigación se aplican métodos analíticos y experimentales, con el objetivo de comprender la relación que existe entre las características dinámicas de un conjunto de edificios reales y la construcción de modelos estructurales que tratan de representarlos mediante la caracterización de sus propiedades dinámicas tal como su periodo natural de vibración, partiendo de un conjunto de registros de aceleración que imprimen un empuje lateral considerando los sismos de la ciudad de Ibagué (Tolima) y su localización así como de otras regiones sísmicamente activas, para obtener una respuesta mediante un entorno simulado en mesas sísmica que permita entender la estructura implementada en cada uno de los edificios con diferentes tipos de uso definidos en el Reglamento Colombiano de Construcción Sismorresistente, NSR-10. La investigación se soporta en la obtención e identificación de una base de datos de registros a partir de la microzonificación de Ibagué y sismos ocurridos recientes por un período de tiempo determinado. Es así como se identifican las zonas de la ciudad que refieren algún tipo de amenaza probable, respecto a las variables sísmicas y su comportamiento con datos de diseño real, cumpliendo lineamientos normativos vigentes, dada su relación de diseño real respecto a los modelos estructurales que los representan mediante la caracterización de su comportamiento dinámico. (Texto tomado de la fuente) In the following research work, analytical and experimental methods are applied, with the aim of understanding the relationship that exists between the dynamic characteristics of a set of real buildings and the construction of structural models that try to represent them by characterizing their dynamic properties as as its natural period of vibration, based on a set of acceleration records that print a lateral thrust considering the earthquakes in the city of Ibague (Tolima) and its location, as well as other seismically active regions, to obtain a response using a simulated environment. in seismic tables that allow understanding the structure implemented in each of the buildings with different types of use defined in the Colombian Regulation of Seismic Resistant Construction, NSR-10. In recent years, innovative structural systems based on Recycled Plastic Lumber walls (RPLW), precast ferrocement walls (PFW), and hollow reinforced concrete walls (HRCW) have been proposed for one and two-story housing so as to lessen the housing deficiency. This thesis presents the results drawn from cycling loading tests carried out over these three types of structural walls, in order to determine their strength, hysteretic behavior, ductility, energy dissipation capacity, equivalent viscous damping, and damage limit states. With the aim to assess their performances for the Design Basic Earthquake (DBE) and the Maximum Considered Earthquake (MCE), it was developed a nonlinear dynamic analysis methodology focused on the Performance-Based Seismic Design philosophy, which uses the Mostaghel’s multilinear hysteretic model to represent and describe accurately the actual inelastic behavior and energy dissipation capacity of the structural walls; for the parameter identification of this hysteretic model, a novel procedure that uses the simple Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm was proposed, which estimated in a good way the experimental hysteretic behavior of the walls, so the models were good enough for simulation purposes. Additionally, the IO, LS, and CP structural performance levels were related to the damage limit states and several assumptions were made to obtain performance-based seismic assessments as realistic as possible. Also, sets of actual recorded and artificial ground motions were employed to validate the use of the methodology, which were scaled to achieve the spectral matching with the NSR-10 target spectrum. Using the median of the Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) results, the performance points of the RPLW fell within the LS and CP ranges for the DBE and the MCE, respectively, which evidences that this structural system meets exactly the basic safety performance objective established in the design philosophy of the NSR-10 building code. On the other hand, the performance points of the PFW and HRCW fell within the IO range for both earthquake hazard levels, which demonstrates their excellent seismic behavior. The obtained results approve the use of these structural systems for one and two-story housing Resumen: En los últimos años, sistemas estructurales basados en muros de madera plástico reciclado (RPLW), muros prefabricados de ferrocemento (PFW) y muros huecos de concreto reforzado (HRCW) han sido propuestos para viviendas de uno y dos pisos con el fin de disminuir la deficiencia de vivienda. Esta tesis presenta los resultados obtenidos de las pruebas de carga cíclica realizadas sobre estos tres tipos de muros estructurales, a fin de determinar su resistencia, comportamiento histérico, ductilidad, capacidad de disipación de energía, amortiguamiento viscoso equivalente y estados límite de daño. Con el objetivo de evaluar sus desempeños para el terremoto básico de diseño (DBE) y el terremoto máximo considerado (MCE), se desarrolló una metodología de análisis dinámico no lineal enfocada en la filosofía de diseño sísmico basado en desempeño, la cual utiliza el modelo histerético multilineal de Mostaghel para representar y describir con precisión el comportamiento inelástico real y la capacidad de disipación de energía de los muros estructurales; para la identificación de los parámetros de este modelo histerético, fue propuesto un novedoso procedimiento que usa el algoritmo simple de la Optimización por Enjambre de Partículas (PSO), el cual estimó de buena manera el comportamiento histerético experimental de los muros, por lo que los modelos fueron lo suficientemente buenos para propósitos de simulación. Adicionalmente, los niveles de desempeño estructural IO, LS y CP fueron relacionados con los estados límite de daño y varias suposiciones fueron hechas para obtener evaluaciones sísmicas basadas en el desempeño lo más realistas posible. También se emplearon conjuntos de sismos reales y sismos artificiales para validar el uso de la metodología, los cuales fueron escalados para lograr la coincidencia espectral con el espectro objetivo de la NSR-10. Usando la mediana de los resultados del Análisis Dinámico Incremental (IDA), los puntos de desempeño del RPLW cayeron dentro de los rangos LS y CP para el DBE y el MCE, respectivamente, lo que evidencia que este sistema estructural cumple exactamente con el objetivo de desempeño de seguridad básico establecido en la filosofía de diseño de la NSR-10. Por otro lado, los puntos de desempeño del PFW y HRCW cayeron dentro del rango de IO para ambos niveles de amenaza sísmica, lo que demuestra sus excelentes comportamientos sísmicos. Most of the published literature in the area of uncertainty quantification of structural systems via probabilistic methods, is concerned with the representation of uncertain quantities as random fields. These types of models allow a robust representation of the random nature of different kinds of structural parameters, provided there exists sufficient information about their random fluctuations. The inclusion of this probabilistic variation into the physical model affects directly the overall behavior of the structural system, which is generally simulated using the finite element method. Therefore, an instinctive way of proceeding is to extend the classical finite element approach for the solution of stochastic problems involving random structural properties, constituting the so-called stochastic finite element method. This technique has received a considerable attention over the last decade, due to its versatility in dealing with a broad range of stochastic problems. The fundamental idea of this thesis is to present a review of the stochastic finite element method, and to develop a collection of programs that allow a better understanding of this technique. Initially, a general overview of common methods used for the representation of random fields is carried out; special attention is made to the Karhunen-Loève and polynomial chaos expansions, since they are key concepts in the construction of the spectral stochastic finite element method. Secondly, the stochastic finite element is introduced by making a general description of its variants; where the spectral approach using the projection on the homogeneous chaos and the Monte Carlo simulation method are particularly revisited. Finally, the performance of the implemented methodologies is evaluated using several numerical experiments. Resumen : La mayoría de la literatura publicada en el área de cuantificación de la incertidumbre de sistemas estructurales usando métodos probabilísticos, está interesada en la representación de variables inciertas por medio de campos aleatorios. Este tipo de modelos permiten una representación robusta de la naturaleza aleatoria de diferentes tipos de parámetros estructurales, siempre y cuando se cuente con información suficiente sobre su variación probabilística. La inclusión de esta variación en el modelo físico afecta directamente el comportamiento general del sistema estructural, el cual es generalmente simulado usando el método de los elementos finitos. Por lo tanto, una forma instintiva de proceder consiste en extender el clásico enfoque de los elementos finitos para la solución de problemas estocásticos, constituyendo así el llamado método de los elementos finitos estocásticos. Esta técnica numérica ha recibido gran atención durante los últimos años, dada su versatilidad a la hora de resolver una amplia gama de problemas probabilísticos. La idea fundamental de esta tesis consiste en presentar una revisión del método de los elementos finitos estocásticos, y de igual forma desarrollar un conjunto de programas que permitan un mejor entendimiento de esta técnica. Inicialmente, se lleva a cabo un vistazo general de los métodos más comunes para la representación de campos aleatorios; se hace énfasis en las expansiones de Karhunen-Loève y de caos polinomial, dado que ellas representan conceptos primordiales en la construcción del método de los elementos finitos estocásticos espectrales. En segundo lugar, se hace una introducción al método de los elementos finitos estocásticos, haciendo una descripción general de sus diversas alternativas; donde se revisa particularmente el enfoque espectral basado en la proyección sobre el caos homogéneo y el método de simulación de Monte Carlo. La mayoría de la literatura referente a la estimación de parámetros de los modelos de histéresis de tipo Bouc-Wen por medio de algoritmos evolutivos no solo usa una función objetivo única (el error cuadrático medio entre los desplazamientos conocidos y los estimados), sino que también considera el modelo original de histéresis de Bouc-Wen (sin degradación y sin pinching) en el proceso de identificación. En esta Tesis se presenta una metodología novedosa para la estimación de los parámetros del modelo de histéresis de Bouc-Wen-Baber-Noori. La metodología está basada en un algoritmo evolutivo para optimización multi-objetivo, llamado NSGA-II [34]; por lo tanto, un conjunto de funciones objetivo es empleado en vez de una función objetivo única. Esta metodología no solo minimiza la diferencia entre los desplazamientos medidos en el laboratorio y los estimados, sino que también minimiza la diferencia entre la energía disipada experimental y la estimada con el modelo. La metodología propuesta identifica el sistema estructural y permite la observación de la multi-modalidad del modelo de histéresis de BWBN. El desempeño del algoritmo es evaluado usando datos simulados y reales. Abstract: Most of the published literature concerned with the parameter estimation of the Bouc-Wen model of hysteresis via evolutionary algorithms not only uses a single objective function (the mean square error between the known displacements and the estimated ones) but also considers the original Bouc-Wen model of hysteresis (without degradation and pinching) in the identification process. In this thesis, a novel method for the identification of the parameters of the Bouc-Wen-Baber-Noori (BWBN) model of hysteresis is presented. The methodology is based on a multi-objective evolutionary optimization algorithm called NSGA-II [34]; therefore, a set of objective functions is employed instead of a single objective function. The methodology minimizes not only the difference between the measured displacements at the laboratory and the estimated ones, but also minimizes the difference between the experimental dissipated energy and the estimated one. The proposed methodology identifies the structural system and allows the observation of multi-modality of the BWBN model of hysteresis. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated using simulated and real data. Maestría
