This article addresses the following research question: does the "entrepreneurial orientation" of a university influence the "entrepreneurial propensity" of its academics? To answer this question, the authors conducted a two-phase study. First, based on a literature review of the entrepreneurial university and Nelles and Vorley's theoretical framework on entrepreneurial architecture, they developed a conceptual model and research instrument to assess academics' perceptions of the characteristics most likely attributed to the entrepreneurial university and their effects on an academic's entrepreneurial propensity. Second, the authors used the research instrument to conduct a pilot study of the effect of a Canadian university's entrepreneurial orientation on its academics' entrepreneurial propensity. The pilot study, using the proposed methodology with detailed accounts of collecting, analyzing and interpreting the data, suggests that the proposed methodology is appropriate for measuring the relationship alluded to in the research question. Furthermore, the methodology can help university leadership in designing possible interventions to correct identified deficiencies in the university's entrepreneurial architecture to stimulate academic entrepreneurship on campus.

In this study, we aim to understand the influence of the university's environment and support system (ESS) on subjective social norms (SSN) as one of the precursors of the entrepreneurial intention (EI) of university students. For this, we applied a customized mathematical model of EI based on the theory of planned behavior to probe whether the university's ESS can affect SSN and analyze the paths that this influence may follow to form the EI of students. In other words, this study argues that the university plays a critical dual role in shaping the EI of students. First, it can provide support mechanisms to help students translate their ideas into viable business models that may further translate into successful ventures. Second, it can help students gain the support of their families and friends who influence their SSN, thus affecting their EI through the mediating effects of the other two precursors of intention. We collected the data from students in a public university in Atlantic Canada via a structured non-disguised questionnaire to test the hypotheses formulated in this study. We analyzed them through partial least square-structural equation modeling of a second-order mathematical model of EI. Analysis of the data indicates that the mathematical model is appropriate for evaluating the relations among the five constructs of the mathematical model of EI. Results of this study support the hypothesis that the university's ESS may influence students' perceptions of the opinions of important reference people regarding their prospects of becoming entrepreneurs. Furthermore, we determined that the university's ESS influences the EI of students mediated by the more proximal precursors of intention. The effect of the university's ESS is such that it may positively impact the EI of students, but its importance in the mathematical model of EI is still low. These findings can help universities assess their initiatives to promote innovation and entrepreneurship on campus.

Rising costs of constructing and maintaining asphaltic concrete pavements present a challenge requiring an alternative solution. Nanomaterials can be cost-effectively integrated with asphalt binder to provide beneficial effects for asphaltic concrete mixture. This paper investigated seven different types of nanomaterials, namely nanoclay, carbon nanotube, nanosilica, nano-titanium dioxide, nano-zinc oxide, graphene oxide, and carbon nanofiber by examining their production methods, benefits, applications, and limitations based on the data available in published literature. Challenges and limitations discussed include economic, production, and blending problems, some of which are due to the lack of research on the topic. This study provides a framework from which the pavement engineering community can conduct experimental research on nanomaterials for applications in asphaltic concrete pavements. The review of previous studies reveals that new asphalt binders and asphaltic concrete mixtures incorporating nanomaterials can be developed for improved performance of flexible pavements. It is expected that further research can be devoted to overcoming the current challenges faced by aging transportation infrastructure through use of nanomaterials in asphalt binder and asphaltic concrete. Huntington disease (HD) is a genetic neurodegenerative disease caused by cytosine, adenine, guanine (CAG) expansion in the Huntingtin (HTT) gene, translating to an expanded polyglutamine tract in the HTT protein. Age at disease onset correlates to CAG repeat length but varies by decades between individuals with identical repeat lengths. Genome-wide association studies link HD modification to DNA repair and mitochondrial health pathways. Clinical studies show elevated DNA damage in HD, even at the premanifest stage. A major DNA repair node influencing neurodegenerative disease is the PARP pathway. Accumulation of poly adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-ribose (PAR) has been implicated in Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases, as well as cerebellar ataxia. We report that HD mutation carriers have lower cerebrospinal fluid PAR levels than healthy controls, starting at the premanifest stage. Human HD induced pluripotent stem cell-derived neurons and patient-derived fibroblasts have diminished PAR response in the context of elevated DNA damage. We have defined a PAR-binding motif in HTT, detected HTT complexed with PARylated proteins in human cells during stress, and localized HTT to mitotic chromosomes upon inhibition of PAR degradation. Direct HTT PAR binding was measured by fluorescence polarization and visualized by atomic force microscopy at the single molecule level. While wild-type and mutant HTT did not differ in their PAR binding ability, purified wild-type HTT protein increased in vitro PARP1 activity while mutant HTT did not. These results provide insight into an early molecular mechanism of HD, suggesting possible targets for the design of early preventive therapies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although pavement maintenance and rehabilitation (M&R) techniques are usually examined in economic terms, there is a growing need to address their environmental footprints. The objective of this study is to assess the environmental impacts of M&R techniques. Life cycle assessment (LCA) can help in the decision-making process of selecting suitable maintenance techniques based on their environmental impacts. This study investigates: patching, rout & sealing, hot in-place recycling, and cold in-place recycling. Global warming potential (GWP), acidification potential, human health particulate, eutrophication potential, ozone depletion potential, and smog potential are estimated as environmental impacts for each maintenance activity. Materials, equipment use (for construction and M&R), and transportation were the main elements considered. A sensitivity test is performed to identify the significant factors for the LCA. The study concluded that GWP was the most important impact category. Rout & sealing and cold in-place recycling produced the lowest GWP emissions. Notably, pavement patching and hot in-place recycling showed significant detrimental environmental impacts. L'evaluation du cycle de vie (ECV) peut aider a prendre des decisions sur la selection de techniques d'entretien appropriees en fonction de leurs impacts environnementaux. Cette etude porte sur le rapiecage, le << rout >> et sellant, le recyclage a chaud sur place et le recyclage a froid sur place. Le potentiel de rechauffement de la planete (PRP), le potentiel d'acidification, l'effet de particules pour la sante humaine, le potentiel d'eutrophisation, le potentiel d'appauvrissement de l'ozone et le potentiel de smog sont estimes en tant qu'impacts environnementaux pour chaque activite d'entretien. Les principaux elements pris en compte etaient les materiaux, l'utilisation de l'equipement (pour la construction et l'ER) et le transport. Un test de sensibilite est effectue pour determiner les facteurs importants de l'ECV. L'etude a conclu que le PRP etait la categorie d'impact la plus importante. Entrepreneurial endeavours often begin with entrepreneurship training. Such trainings, however, remain largely inaccessible to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and thus, their entrepreneurial potential remains untapped. This comprehensive literature review examines the barriers to entrepreneurship education for PWDs and identifies strategies to overcome these challenges. The review follows the systematic approach of the PRISMA 2020 Statement, using five databases, including Scopus, JSTOR, ProQuest, DOAJ, and Google Scholar. A total of 2140 articles dating back 10 years were identified, screened, and evaluated, and 17 of them were selected and synthesized to inform the findings. The key findings highlight a spectrum of barriers, including inadequate access to quality education, difficulty in customizing entrepreneurship programs, issues related to both physical and digital access, financial barriers, and the influence of societal norms and self-perception. They also identify strategies to make entrepreneurship education more inclusive, such as applying universal design principles, tailoring education to individual needs, shifting towards active learner-centred methodologies, leveraging information technology, and fostering supportive communities. This review is a practical reference for institutions, organizations, and individuals endeavouring to enhance the inclusivity of entrepreneurship training programs. It also provides a theoretical framework for the already identified requirements of PWDs for entrepreneurship training and presents further opportunities through current limitations and suggestions for future research. Many researchers have studied gender differences in the entrepreneurial intention of students by analyzing the influence of several intrinsic and extrinsic factors on the antecedents of entrepreneurial intention. Fewer researchers have analyzed the influence of the university’s environment and support system on the precursors of the entrepreneurial intention of students in general and of female students in particular. This study aims to fill that gap by analyzing the influence of the university’s environment and support system on the precursors of entrepreneurial intention of female students at a university in Atlantic Canada. Findings of this study confirm that two precursors of entrepreneurial intention—i.e., attitude toward behavior and perceived behavioral control—mediate the effects of the university’s environment and support system on the entrepreneurial intention of female students. They also confirm that the university’s environment and support system comprises three distinct but interrelated dimensions, namely entrepreneurship training, start-up support, and entrepreneurial milieu. Results of this study also suggest that the university’s environment and support system has a positive relation with the perceived behavioral control of female students. However, findings of this study also suggest that the university’s environment and support system has a positive but negligible influence on the attitude toward the behavior of the same students. The outcomes of this study will help the university assess the efficacy of its innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives in promoting entrepreneurial activities. By understanding its entrepreneurial efficacy, the institution will be better equipped to raise the perceptions of venture feasibility and desirability, thus increasing students’ perceptions of opportunity.
