Amaç: Obstrüktif Uyku Apne Sendromu (OUAS)’u olan hastalarda C-Reaktif Protein (CRP)’in erken ateroskleozun saptanmasında kullanılması. Yöntemler: Çalışmaya Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi uyku bozukluğu polikliniğine başvuran, yaşları 20-66 arasında olan toplam 45 obez hasta alındı. Hastaların cinsiyet, yaş, boy, kilo değerleri saptandı. Vücut kitle indeksleri, bel / kalça oranları hesaplandı. Polisomnografi tetkiki yapıldı. OUAS’u olan hasta grubu ve OUAS’u olmayan kontrol grubu olarak iki gruba ayrıldı. Her iki grup hastadan açlık venöz kan örneği alınarak yüksek duyarlılıklı CRP düzeyleri ve lipid profilleri çalışıldı. B-mode dopler ultrasonografiyle karotis intima madia kalınlıkları ölçüldü. Bulgular: Kontrol grubunda yd-CRP düzeyleri 0,22 (0,01-0,57) mg/dl, OUAS’lı hasta grubundaysa 0,30 (0,05-1,52) mg/dl olarak bulundu, iki grup arasında istatiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptanmadı (p=0,300). Karotis İntima Media Kalınlığı (KİMK) ölçümleri değerlendirildiğinde her iki grup arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptandı (p=0,01). Bel / kalça oranları belirlenip, abdominal obezite açısından değerlendirildiğinde iki grup arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark gözlendi (p < 0,01). AKŞ, TK ve LDL-K düzeylerinde de anlamlı fark saptandı (p=0,049, p=0,01 ve p=0,03). Sonuç: OUAS’lı hastalarda abdominal obezite, AKŞ, TK ve LDL-K düzeylerinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptanması OUAS metabolik sendrom ilişkisi için varolan kanıtları doğruladı. Bununla birlikte, ölçülen CRP düzeylerinin OUAS’u hastalarında erken aterosklerozun gösterilmesinde iyi bir gösterge olmayabileceği belirlendi

Dil, insanoğlunun en gizemli araçlarının başında gelir. Dil, sonsuz algının, sonsuz etkileşimin zaman içinde çoklu değişimlerine sürekli maruz kaldığı halde iletişimin kesintisiz sürmesini sağlamaktadır. İnsanın güçlü-güçsüz, yöneten-yönetilen ikileminde dil de üzerine düşen görevi yapmakta; üsttekinden alttakine, yönetenden yönetilene veri sunmaktadır. Alıcı taraf aldıklarını evirir, kendileştirir öyle ki bir zaman sonra ona ait olmadığını bilmek ancak uzmanların tekelinde olur. Türkler tarih boyu Balkanlara birçok yoldan birçok kez ulaştılar. Ama en derin izlerini elbette ki Osmanlı hâkimiyeti süresinde bıraktılar. Bu izler Balkan dillerinin sözlüklerinde tanıklıklarını bu gün de sürdürmektedir. Ancak alınan her sözcük alındığı dilde başka formlarda, başka seslerde ve başka anlamlarda yaşamayı tercih etmişlerdir. Biz bu çalışmamızda Balkanlarda en çok birlikte yaşadığımız Bulgaristan’da, Bulgar diline verdiğimiz sözcüklerdeki anlam değişmeleri üzerinde duracağız. Bu çalışma Günay Karaağaç’ın “Verintiler Sözlüğü” adlı kitabındaki veriler üzerinden derlenmiştir, Language, comes at the beginning of the most mysterious tools of mankind. Language ensures the uninterrupted continuation of the communication although it is constantly exposed to multiple transformations of the infinite perception and endless interaction over time. In the dilemma of strong-weak and administrator-the managed, the Language also plays its role; transferring information from top to bottom and from administrator to the being administered. The receiving side inverts and makes the acquired words so self-owned that, after some time, only specialists can figure out that they are not their own. Turks have reached the Balkans many times throughout history in many ways. But of course they left the deepest traces during the Ottoman domination. These traces continue witnessing in the dictionaries of Balkan Languages till today. However, every word has preferred to live in different forms, different sounds and different means than they were came from. In this study, we will focus on the changes in word meanings we gave to the Bulgarian language, which we longest co-lived among the Balkan nations. In this study, aerodynamics and aeroacoustics of two radial fans are investigated by using a hybrid computational aeroacoustics method. Unsteady turbulent flow field of both fans is simulated with large eddy simulation (LES). Acoustic sources are computed based on the pressure fluctuations. Inhomogeneous wave equation, which accounts for the propagation, diffraction and scattering of the acoustic waves, is solved to determine the far field sound pressure level with the boundary element method. Numerical results are validated with experimental data. Sound pressure level distribution in narrow band frequency spectrum and directivity of the acoustic waves are predicted numerically with a high accuracy. Results of the LES provide an insight into the turbulent flow and noise generation mechanisms, which can be utilized to reduce fan noise. © 2009 Institute of Noise Control Engineering.

Kurumsal sosyal sorumluluk kavramı son yıllarda hızla gelişmekte; kurumsal sosyal sorumluluğun iş performansı üzerindeki olumlu etkileri göz önüne alınarak, her geçen gün daha fazla sayıda işletme, sosyal sorumluluk kavramını kurumsal stratejilere entegre etmek üzerine ciddi çalışmalar yürütmektedir. Bu çalışma, sosyal sorumluluk konusunu, etkin bir katı atık yönetim sistemi olan geri dönüşüm (recyling) yaklaşımı ile ele almaktadır. Çalışmanın ana amacı, çeşitli değişkenlerin etkileşimini inceleyerek, müşterilerin geri dönüşüm davranışına bakış açısını, sosyal sorumluluk bağlamı içerisinde ele almak ve teorik bir çerçeve oluşturmaktır. Ayrıca bu çalışma, pazarlama yöneticilerine ve ilgili kamu birimlerine, müşterilerin geri dönüşüm ve sosyal sorumluluk hakkındaki algıları, motivasyonları ve davranışları hakkında ışık tutmayı ve müşterilerin konu ile ilgili tercihlerini anlayarak, uygun çevreci (yeşil) pazarlama stratejilerini önermeyi hedeflemektedir. Konu ile ilgili daha once yapılmış olan çalışmalar incelendikten sonra, İstanbul’da bir saha çalışması yürütülmüştür. Veriler, olasılıksal olmayan kolaydan örnekleme metodu kullanılarak, 400 denekten, önceden hazırlanmış soruları içeren anketlerin yanıtlanması yolu ile elde edilmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda varılan genel sonuca gore, geri dönüşüm davranışını belirleyen faktörler; bilgi seviyesi, geri dönüşümün algılanan önemi, çevresel duyarlılık, işletmenin sosyal sorumluluk ile ilgili pazarlama stratejileri ve demografik faktörler olarak sıralanmakta, bilgi seviyesi en belirleyici faktör olarak ön plana çıkmaktadır. Ayrıca bu çalışma, Türk tüketicisinin geri dönüşüm hakkındaki genel tutum ve davranışlarına ışık tutarak, sosyal sorumluluk kampanyalarının bir boyutu olarak geri dönüşüm kampanyalarına yatırım yapmak isteyen işletmeler için değerli bilgiler sunmaktadır. Elde edilen sonuçlar, etkili geri dönüşüm programlarının planlanması ve başarılı çevreci pazarlama stratejilerinin oluşturulması yönünde yol göstermektedir. Topluma katkı amacı ile hareket etmenin ve müşterilerin çevresel konulardaki beklentilerinin karşılanmasının, işletmeye olumlu bir imaj kazandırması ve bu işletmenin ürünlerine yönelik satın alma eğilimini artırması göz ardı edilemez bir sonuçtur. The field of corporate social responsibility has grown exponentially in the last decades. Considering the positive impacts of corporate social responsibility on business performance, more companies than ever before are engaged in serious efforts to integrate corporate social responsibility into all aspects of their business. This study considers social responsibility from a recycling approach, which is an important aspect of an efficient and effective solid waste management system.The main purpose of this study is to develop a customer response framework to recycling behavior in the context of social responsibility taking into consideration a range of moderating factors. This study will provide marketing managers as well as public policy makers a coherent understanding of customer perceptions, motives, attitudes and behavior regarding recycling and social responsibility, and present relevant environmental marketing strategies by understanding customers’ perceptions and preferences on the subject.After a review of previous empirical and theoretical studies, a descriptive study has been conducted in Istanbul. Data have been collected through a structured questionnaire from a sample of 400 respondents by non-probabilistic convenience sampling method. The general conclusion of the study is that recycling behavior is mainly predicted by knowledge of recycling, perceived importance of recycling, marketing strategy on social responsibility, environmental concern and demographics; knowledge being the strongest determinant. The study also sheds light on the general recycling attitudes and behavior of Turkish customers, providing valuable information for marketers who want to invest on recycling programs as a part of their social responsibility projects. The results also give clues to design effective recycling programs and to develop successful environmental marketing strategies considering that serving the society and meeting customers’ demands on environmental issues promise enhanced company image and increased purchase intention.

A new oxidative stress marker in patients with nasal polyposis: advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP).

In this study, computational aeroacoustics methods are employed to analyze the flow and the noise emission in a centrifugal fan. Unsteady flow inside the centrifugal fan is predicted with large eddy simulation. Acoustic sources are computed based on the results of the time-dependent flow simulation. The turbulent pressure fluctuations on the blades and on the volute of the fan are used as the source terms in the acoustic analogy of Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings. Propagation, diffraction and scattering of the acoustic sources inside the volute are computed with the boundary element method. Numerically obtained sound pressure level distribution in narrow band frequency spectrum is compared with experimental measurements at certain microphone points. The numerical and experimental sound intensity maps are also compared to validate the numerical prediction of directivity. Computational results agree well with the experimental data and provide an insight of the noise emission mechanisms. Copyright © 2007 by ASME.
