Tegmen defects occur mainly due to cholesteatoma and iatrogenic trauma, and the intervention for the related defects is still a debate. In this study, we aimed to discuss our clinical experience on the management of the tegmen defects which were revealed during the mastoidectomy surgeries.This study was designed as a retrospective chart review study and patients who were operated between 2007-2017 were included. The causes of the defects, repair technics, and results of the long-term follow up were evaluated. The perioperative and postoperative defect sizes which were obtained from the radiological studies were analyzed.Total number of 62 patients had tegmen defects, and their etiologic factors were cholesteatoma in 31 (50%), iatrogenic factors in 29 (46.7%), and chronic infection in 2 (3.3%) patients. The number of the tegmen defects was higher in intact canal wall technic. All of the tegmen defects were repaired with different materials, and no complication was detected. The obtained data from the postoperative radiological images revealed that the related perioperative defects were significantly decreased (p0.001).The perioperative bone defects were observedly decreased significantly in postoperative period. Early detection of the defect and appropriate interventions may help to manage this problem without any complication in the long term.Tegmen kusurları esas olarak kolesteatom ve iyatrojenik travmaya bağlı olarak ortaya çıkar ve ilgili kusurlara müdahale hala tartışma konusudur. Bu çalışmada mastoidektomi ameliyatları sırasında ortaya çıkan tegmen defektlerinin yönetimi ile ilgili klinik deneyimimizi tartışmayı amaçladık.Bu çalışma retrospektif bir dosya inceleme çalışması olarak tasarlandı ve 2007-2017 yılları arasında ameliyat edilen hastalar dahil edildi. Defektin nedenleri, onarım teknikleri ve uzun süreli takip sonuçları değerlendirildi. Radyolojik çalışmalardan elde edilen perioperatif ve postoperatif defekt boyutları incelendi.Toplam tegmen defekti olan hasta sayısı 62 olup defekt etiyolojisi sırasıyla 31’inde (%50) kolesteatom, 29’unda (%46,7) iyatrojenik ve 2’sinde (%3,3) kronik enfeksiyon olarak izlendi. İntakt kanal duvarı tekniğinde tegmen defekti sayısı daha fazlaydı. Tüm tegmen defektleri farklı materyallerle onarıldı ve herhangi bir komplikasyon tespit edilmedi. Postoperatif radyolojik görüntülerden elde edilen veriler, ilgili perioperatif defektlerin anlamlı olarak azaldığını ortaya koydu (p0,001).Postoperatif dönem takiplerinde perioperatif kemik defektlerinin önemli ölçüde azaldığı izlendi. Kusurun erken tespiti ve uygun müdahaleler bu sorunun uzun vadede herhangi bir komplikasyon olmaksızın yönetilmesine yardımcı olabilir.

This research was conducted to determine the effects of in ovo injection of propolis extract into the amnion to breeder eggs on hatchability and early performance in broilers. For this purpose, a total of 250 Ross 308 broiler breeder hatching eggs were obtained from a commercial hatchery. Eggs were divided into four groups randomly, isotonic serum sodium (0.9%) was injected at the level of 0.2 ml into the first group and there were used as positive control (PC) group, whereas there was no treatment on negative control (NC) group. Where the amount of 0.2 ml prepared mixture which is included %3 propolis extract were injected into low propolis (LP) group, 0.2 ml prepared mixture which is included %6 propolis extract were given into the high propolis group (HP). In ovo propolis extract injection resulted in a shorter hatching time compared with the control groups. The hatchability, hatching weight and survival of newly hatched chicks were not affected by in ovo injection of propolis extract according to our results. There were no differences between the control and treatmet groups in hatchability and embryonic mortality. The results indicated that except for the PC group chicks’ weights were similar at hatching day, but the later stage weights of chicks were started to significantly differ from each other and propolis groups have shown higher live weights than the controls at 5th and 10th day (P

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı kekik uçucu yağı (Oregano Onites L.) ve acı biber ekstraktı (Capsicum Oleoresin) ilavesinin, sütten kesilmiş Menemen ırkı kuzuların antioksidan durumu üzerine etkisini incelemektir. Materyal ve Metot: Sekiz haftalık yaşta, sütten kesilmiş toplam 36 adet Menemen ırkı kuzu, her grupta 6 dişi, 6 erkek olacak şekilde kontrol, kekik ve biber olmak üzere rastgele üç farklı gruba ayrılmıştır. Deneme boyunca tüm grupların taze suya ve yeme ad-libitum erişimi sağlanmış ve 56 gün süresince kuzular benzer kuzu büyütme yemi ile beslenmiştir. Kontrol grubundan farklı olarak kekik ve biber gruplarının yemlerine 300 mg/kg düzeyinde kekik uçucu yağı veya acı biber ekstraktı ilave edilmiştir. Deneme sonunda her gruptan 6 dişi ve 6 erkek kuzu ticari bir kesimhanede kesilerek analizlerde kullanılmak üzere karkasların her birinin sol yarısındaki longissimus dorsi kasından 2.5 cm kalınlığında doku örnekleri alınmıştır. AMAÇ: Çalışmamızda 2007 ve 2017 yılları arasında KKOM nedeni opere edilen hastaların klinik özelliklerini ve komplikasyonları gözden geçirip, vakaları EAONO/JOS kriterlerine göre sınıflandırmak ve postoperatif fonksiyonel sonuçlarımızı değerlendirmek amaçlandı. GEREÇ ve YÖNTEMLER: Belirtilen 10 yıllık sürede opere edilen vakaların hasta dosyalarına ulaşıldı. Hastane hasta dosyaları üzerinden vakalar retrospektif olarak taranarak; ameliyat ve epikriz notları, radyolojik görüntülemeleri ve odyolojik tetkikleri değerlendirilerek verilere ulaşıldı. Ameliyat notları üzerinden yapılan taramalarda preoperatif ve intraoperatif orta kulak kolesteatomu tanısı konulan vakalar çalışmaya dahil edildi. BULGULAR: 520 vakalık seride kolesteatomun en sık kaynaklandığı lokalizasyon pars tensa ve posterosüperior kadrandaki perforasyondan kaynaklandığı izlendi. Fonksiyonel sonuçlar karşılaştırıldığında kemikçik zincirdeki defekt oranı yüksek olan, açık teknik TM ile opere edilen ve ossiküler protez olarak TORP kullanılan vakalarda işitme sonuçlarının daha kötü olduğu izlendi. Bunun yanında LSKD %5 ve FKD ise %26 oranında izlendi.SONUÇ: Cerrahi şeklini belirleyen ilk patoloji, aslında postoperatif işitme ve rekürrens açısından en gerekli prognostik faktör olarak kabul edilmelidir. Bu yüzden kolesteatomun evresini belirleyen EAONO ve JOS'un ortak çalışması otoloji alanında hastalık ve eşlik edebilecek komplikasyonlar hakkında yararlı bilgiler sunarken postoperatif işitme sonuçları ve rekürrens oranlarını kestirmede yol gösterici olabilir. Aynı zamanda EAONO/JOS evreleme sistemi sayesinde, farklı cerrahlar tarafından opere edilen farklı evrelerdeki vakalar ortak bir sınıflamada değerlendirilip, analiz edilecektir. Bunun sayesinde karşılaştırma yapılacak her türlü akademik faaliyette ortak bir dilin konuşulması adına faydalı olacaktır. AİM: In our study, we aimed to classify cases operated for cholesteatoma between 2007 and 2017 according to EAONO / JOS criteria, and to evaluate our post-operative functional results.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective patient files of the cases operated for 10 years were obtained. The cases were retrospectively scanned from the hospital patient files; the data were obtained by evaluating surgical notes and epicrisis, radiological imaging and audiological tests. 520 cases with preoperative and intraoperative middle ear cholesteatoma were included in the study.RESULTS: The most common source of cholesteatoma in the 520 series was localized in pars tensa, and the perforation was in the posterocentric quadrant. When the functional results were compared, it was observed that the hearing results were worse in cases with high defect ratio in the ossicular chain, operated with open technique TM and using TORP as an ossicular prosthesis. In addition to this, the observed rate of LSKD was 5% and FKD was 26%.CONCLUSION: The first pathology that determines the surgical form should be considered as the most necessary prognostic factor for post-operative hearing outcomes and recurrence. Therefore, the joint study of EAONO and JOS, which determines the stage of cholesteatoma, may provide useful information about the disease and accompanying complications in the field of otology, and may help predict post-operative hearing outcomes and recurrence rates. At the same time, the EAONO/JOS staging system will be evaluated and analyzed in a common classification of cases operated by different surgeons. Thanks to this, it will be useful to discuss a common language in any academic activity to be compared. 67

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of short-term storage on hatching performance and the length of the incubation period of broiler breeder eggs. A total 3600 eggs from a 42-week-old commercial broiler breeder flock were stored for 0 hours, 6 hours, 3 days or 7 days and then placed in the same incubator. The fertility, embryonic mortality, hatchability of fertile eggs and malpositions were determined. The numbers of hatching chicks were recorded at 468, 474, 480, 486, 492, 498 and 504 hours of the incubation. The results of present study suggested that short-term storage did not affect hatchability and embryonic mortality. But storage of eggs caused an increase in total incubation period. The peak hatching times of eggs stored for 0 and 6 hours were 486 and 492 hours, and of eggs stored for 3 days and 7 days were 492 and 498 hours.

The vision system determines the locations of the objects with respect to a world coordinate system and class of the objects. In order to estimate the locations of the objects, two cameras placed at different locations are used. Image processing algorithms are employed to extract some features of the objects. These features are fed to stereo matching and classifier algorithms. The results of stereo matching algorithm are combined with the calibration parameters of the cameras to determine the object locations. Pattern classification techniques (Bayes and Nearest Neighbor classifiers) are used to classify the objects. The linear velocity of the objects is determined by using an encoder mounted to the shaft of the motor driving the conveyor belt. A robot can plan a sequence of motion to pick the object from the conveyor belt by using the output of the proposed system. The purpose of the present study was to determine the effects of acute heat stress on the proportions of leucocyte components and hematocrit values in broiler chickens. Exposure of broiler chickens to 39±1 °C for 2 h at 44 d of age caused an increase in rectal temperatures, and in heterophil and basophil ratios. The H/L ratio also increased from 0.25 to 0.43. The exposure of the broilers to acute heat stress resulted in decreased monocyte and lymphocyte proportions whereas the proportion of eosinophil and the hematocrit values were not affected. It was concluded that a temperature high enough to cause increased body temperature also changes circulating leucocyte components in broilers.

ÖZET Motor tasarımı ve motor çalışma koşullarının yanısıra, yakıtların özellikleri de motorlardaki yanma olayı ve performans parametreleri üzerinde etkilidir. Buji ateşlemeli motor yakıtları üzerine yapılan araştırma çalışmalarında amaç; yakıtın oktan düzeyini yükseltmek, motor performansını iyileştirmek ve zararlı eksoz emisyonlarını azaltmaktır. Bunlara ek olarak ham petrol kaynaklannın sınırlı olması nedeniyle araştırmacılar, son yıllarda alternatif yakıtlara ilgi duymuşlardır. Benzin motorları için en ilgi çekici alternatif yakıtlar etanol ve metanol gibi alkollerdir. Alkollerin üretimleri yenilenebilir enerji kaynaklarına dayanmaktadır ve alkoller motorlarda kullanım açısından bazı elverişli özelliklere sahiptirler. Etanol, ısıl değerinin daha yüksek olması ve buharlaşma ısısının daha düşük olması nedeniyle metanole göre daha iyi özelliklere sahiptir. Çeşitli araştırmacılar, benzine belirli oranlarda etanol katılmasının motor tasarımında herhangi bir değişikliği gerektirmediğini vurgulamaktadırlar. Bu çalışmada, çeşitli benzin - etanol kanşımlarının buji ateşlemeli motorlardaki yanma olayı ve motor çevrimi karakteristikleri üzerindeki etkilerinin teorik olarak incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla, termodinamiğin birinci kanununa dayanan ve sanki-boyutlu bir matematik yanma modelini içeren bir buji ateşlemeli motor çevrim modeli geliştirilmiştir. Sunulan matematik çevrim modelinde, emme ve eksoz işlemleri basit bir yöntemle hesaplanmıştır. Benzin, etanol ve çeşitli benzin - etanol kanşımlanrün yakıt olarak kullanıldığı tek silindirli bir deney motoru ve dört silindirli bir otomobil benzin motorunun yanma ve çevrim parametreleri teorik olarak incelenmiştir. Belirli oranlarda etanol içeren benzin - etanol kanşımlannın motor performansım iyileştirdiği belirlenmiştir. Her iki motor için de en iyi motor performansı hacimsal olarak %25 etanol içeren kanşımla elde edilmiştir. VI SUMMARY Theoretical Investigation of The Effects of Gasoline - Ethanol Blends on Spark - Ignition Engine Combustion and Cycles In the research studies on the spark ignition (SI) engine fuels, the aim is to improve the fuel octane level, to decrease the engine fuel consumption and to reduce the obnoxious exhaust emissions. Additionally, in recent years researchers have interested to alternative fuels due to limited crude oil reserves. The most attractive alternative fuels for SI engines are alcohols such as ethanol and methanol. Their productions are based on renewable natural energy sources and they have some relevant properties for using in engines. Properties of ethanol generally appear more favorable than those of methanol since its calorific value is higher and its latent heat is lower than methanol. The use of ethanol as a pure fuel in SI engines require some engine design modifications. It was pointed out by several researchers that blending of the certain amounts of ethanol with gasoline do not require any engine design modification. In the presented study, it was aimed that the theoretical investigation of the effects of different gasoline - ethanol blends on SI engine combustion and cycle characteristics. For this purpose a mathematical SI engine cycle model based on the first law of thermodynamics and includes a quasi-dimensional combustion model has been developed. In the presented mathematical cycle model, intake and exhaust processes have been calculated by use of a simple method. Theoretical investigation of combustion and cycle parameters of a single cylinder experimental SI engine and a four cylinder automobile SI engine fuelled with pure gasoline, pure ethanol and several gasoline - ethanol blends, have been performed. It is determined that the blends including the certain amounts of ethanol improved the engine combustion and performance. The best engine performance has been obtained with the blend including 25 per cent ethanol (by volume). ÖZET Günümüzdeki enerji kaynaklarının sınırlı potansiyele sa hip oluşu, gelecekte dünya enerji gereksinimini karşılama ko nusunda bizleri uyarmaktadır, özellikle günümüz taşıt motor larında kullanılan yakıtların petrolden üretilmeleri ve dünya petrol kaynaklarının da yaklaşık olarak 41 yıl sonra tükenme olasılığı nedeniyle, petrolün yerini alabilecek yakıtları a- raştırıp belirlemek zorundayız. Alkollerin motor yakıtı ola rak kullanılabilecekleri gerçeği değişik araştırmacılar tara fından ortaya konmuştur. Fakat esas problem; günümüz motorla rına en uygun alkol ya da (petrol esaslı yakıt-alkol) karışımını belirlemektir. Bu çalışmada, günümüz motor yakıtları ve bunlara alter natif olarak gösterilebilecek yakıtların özellikleri incelenmiş ve daha sonra benzine değişik oranlarda etilalkol ve izo- propanol karıştırılarak, oluşturulan karışımları motor yakıtı olarak kullanarak dört farklı sıkıştırma oranında, dört değişik gaz durumunda, değişik devir sayılarında her bir karışım için deneyler yapılmış ve motorun karakteristik değerlerinde meydana gelen değişiklikler belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen so nuçlar tablo ve diyagramlarla gösterilmiştir. Bu çalışma sonunda; motorlarda benzin-etilalkol ya da benzin-etilalkol-izopropanol karışımları motor yakıtı olarak kullanılarak, effektif yerimde ve effektif güçte artış, özgül yakıt tüketiminde ve eksoz gazları içindeki CO oranında ise bir düşüş olduğu bununla birlikte etilalkol ve izopropanolun pahalı yakıtlar olmalarından dolayı yakıt fiyatında artma olduğu görülmüştür. All kind of vehicle engines are working by using fuels that are produced from petrol. But, petrol resource of the world is limited and it is expected that they will be exhausted about 41 years. For these reasens, new energy sources that can be used instead of petrol will have to be found. Many researches have stated that alcohols can be used as an engine fuel. But to determine the most appropriate alcohol or alcohol-petrol fuel mixture for actual engines, consists the main problem. In this study, the properties of the actual engines fuels and the fuels that might be alternative to the actual fuels, have been investigated. Later, the fuels that would be used in experiments have been prapered by adding ethyl alcohol and isopropyl alcohol into the gasoline at various ratios. The experiments have been done at four compression ratios, at four throttle position, and at the variable speeds. Then the variations of the characteristic parameters of the engine were obtained for each mixture. In the final of the study, it was seen that, when the mixtures of gasoline-ethyl alcohol or gasoline-ethyl alcohol- isopropyl alcohol are used in the actual engines, the effective efficiency and the effective power of the engine have increased and also the specific fuel consumption and the carbon monoxide (CO) ratio included in the exhaust gases have decreased. However, ethyl alcohol and isopropyl alcohol are expensive and the prices of the various mixtures are higher than petrol fuels.
