The circular economy, as a new model of waste management through energy self-sufficiency and valorisation, can be applied to wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). Screening waste from WWTP pretreatment is the only waste that is not energetically recovered and thus constrains the achievement of zero waste. Previous studies demonstrated the technical feasibility of producing solid recovered fuel (SRF) from this waste. Environmental benefits, including waste reduction, resource conservation, or reduced greenhouse gas emissions are analysed in this work. Environmental impact is quantified using the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology through the SimaPro 9.2. software and the CML-IA baseline v3.08 impact methodology, that propose 11 impact categories. Five scenarios were established to compare current landfill disposal with the production of densified and non-densified SRF using solar and thermal drying. Within the system boundaries studied, from waste generation to SRF production, results show that landfill is the most environmentally damaging option while producing non-densified SRF using solar drying is the most environmentally viable scenario. A study published in the Journal of Internal Medicine evaluated the impact of switching from subcutaneous semaglutide to oral semaglutide in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) due to a shortage of the subcutaneous medication. The study included 43 patients who switched from once-weekly subcutaneous semaglutide to once-daily oral semaglutide. The results showed that there were no significant changes in weight or HbA1c levels after the switch, but treatment satisfaction decreased. The study suggests that oral semaglutide may be a useful alternative in the short term, but patients with previous use of subcutaneous semaglutide may prefer that treatment. Aims: To describe the physical activity (PA) frequency and intensity in the Spanish type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) population and its association with their glycemic control. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was carried out in 75 Spanish public hospitals (the SED1 study). T1D patients over 14years of age self-completed the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) to determine their level of exercise. The relationship between PA frequency and intensity in T1D patients and glycemic control and the diabetes therapeutic education received were analyzed. Results: A total of 592 patients were evaluable. A 6.8% of the sample performed light PA, 20.9% moderate and 72.3% vigorous. Estimated PA presented a high inter-individual variability. Men consumed more energy (METS) than women, these differences being more noticeable in vigorous METS (2865.80 in men vs 1352.12 in women). Women invested more min/week in the domestic and garden area (639.03 vs 344.39, p = 0,022). A correlation between glycemic control and the METs was not observed. Conclusions: The Spanish T1D population performed PA in a higher frequency and intensity than the general population. A relationship between PA and glycemic control couldn´t be shown. The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic imposed a risk of infection and disease in pregnant women and neonates. Successful pregnancy requires a fine-tuned regulation of the maternal immune system to accommodate the growing fetus and to protect the mother from infection. Galectins, a family of β-galactoside-binding proteins, modulate immune and inflammatory processes and have been recognized as critical factors in reproductive orchestration, including maternal immune adaptation in pregnancy. Pregnancy-specific glycoprotein 1 (PSG1) is a recently identified gal-1 ligand at thematernal-fetal interface, which may facilitate a successful pregnancy. Several studies suggest that galectins are involved in the immune response in SARS-CoV-2-infected patients. However, the galectins and PSG1 signature upon SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination during pregnancy remain unclear. In the present study, we examined the maternal circulating levels of galectins (gal-1, gal-3, gal-7, and gal-9) and PSG1 in pregnant women infected with SARS-CoV-2 before vaccination or uninfected women who were vaccinated against SARSCoV-2 and correlated their expression with different pregnancy parameters. SARSCoV-2 infection or vaccination during pregnancy provoked an increase in maternal gal-1 circulating levels. On the other hand, levels of PSG1 were only augmented upon SARS-CoV-2 infection. A healthy pregnancy is associated with a positive correlation between gal-1 concentrations and gal-3 or gal-9; however, no correlation was observed between these lectins during SARS-CoV-2 infection. Transcriptome analysis of the placenta showed that gal-1, gal-3, and several PSG and glycoenzymes responsible for the synthesis of gal-1-binding glycotopes (such as linkage-specific N-acetyl-glucosaminyltransferases (MGATs)) are upregulated in pregnant women infected with SARS-CoV-2. Collectively, our findings identify a dynamically regulated "galectin-specific signature" that accompanies the SARSCoV-2 infection and vaccination in pregnancy, and they highlight a potentially significant role for gal-1 as a key pregnancy protective alarmin during virus infection.
